”So, Davin, tell me some of the things you like to do…”
Hmm. That's a good question. Davin thought to himself as he entered the turbo lift with Talau.
He leaned against the wall railing of the lift as he fiddled with his thumbs. It may have looked strange, but when he was put on the spot like that it helped him concentrate.
"Well I like to do lightsaber training....."
Or is that only because I am lousy at it?
"I thoroughly enjoy a good book as well. Especially about legendary Jedi that came before.
Ah yes, Davin always enjoyed a good read, especially biographies. It even doesn't have to be particularly about a Jedi - it could range from a politician to a Republic trooper or even a pilot. What he loved most was the fact that they overcame their obstacles to achieve their goals and become successful. Davin figured if they could do it, then why couldn't he?
But they had something special about themselves. I have none such luck....
He immediately caught himself when the thought passed his mind. He wasn't sure if he had control over that particular thought and as a result, was unsure if Talau picked up on it or not.
I got to be more careful...
Davin looked down at his hands as he began to fiddle with them once more, his expression quite blank.

omg tal talked a lot in this post...
Talau listened quietly as the boy spoke…and didn’t speak. She’d learned from Shoal that there was more than one way to listen to a person; words, thoughts, body language…right down to the way a person dressed and the things they did. It was in this way that the Shadow listened, more than his words, more than his thoughts (which she’d have to work on swiftly if he was to be her student), she listened to his actions and his posture.
”Saber training, hmm? That isn’t unusual for young jedi to enjoy saber training…especially young men. Though I believe you may not enjoy it so much if I train you. My master was a guardian and he taught me as such…well, heh, more like a drill sergeant than a jedi, but I won’t be much different. Now, reading…that’s a bit more unusual. Good, very good, but unusual.” As the lift opened, she stepped out and headed out into the hall, walking almost lazily down it. ”The amazing thing about jedi past…the ones you likely read about…is that there was nothing special about them at all…nothing except the drive and will to become great, or the compassion to go beyond their duties to help the people of the galaxy. Anyone can be great, everyone has that potential when they’re born, but after that it is up to the person to have the desire to become truly great, to reach their potential. I’ve seen jedi who are, by some, considered only mediocre in ability do truly great things.”
Glancing over at Davin, she let that sink in, a bit of amused green seeping into her eyes as she wondered if he understood that she’d just commented on his thought. Looking forward once more she seemed to sober a bit. ”Some are born into trying times and must rise to greatness to help the people around them overcome those time, and they do. Others go through more personal trials and must constantly fight, physically, spiritually, and emotionally, to remain a light of hope as a jedi should be…it makes them stronger and in the end, sometimes they succeed…sometimes they don’t. Still others are great simply by happenstance. Their personality or talents allow them to be great…sometimes they are, but often enough people like that take their good fortune for granted. Some great jedi are simply great because they are selfless, and so they act constantly for the betterment of others. They see the pain and suffering in the galaxy and want nothing more than to help ease it in any way they can.” She paused a moment, turning down another hall and out onto a covered, outdoor, walkway.
”Then, there are those jedi who history does not remember, but are great anyway…they don’t over achieve, they aren’t remembered for heading large battles…their actions are smaller, but no less important. They save a child from a fire when no one else would run inside, they bring important information on a crime lord that helps bring him to justice and frees the people he terrorized, they bring a dark jedi back to the light, they heal a critically injured soldier brought in from the front lines of a battlefield…these jedi are just as great as any other that you’ve read about, and sometimes more so. The first gave his life to save that child, the second was captured and tortured to get that information and had to escape to bring it back, the third nearly lost his sanity battling that dark jedi after years of taking all manner of disguises and going through all manner of trials to find him, the fourth lost a leg and an arm protecting that same soldier and several others when the battle reached the medical camp…”
Pausing in the shade of one of the arches, she looked at Davin with a gentle smile. ”That is the truly amazing thing about the great jedi…there was nothing overtly special about them.” Chuckling she’d start walking again, enjoying the day. ”Who knows, Davin, perhaps there’s some greatness in you too…” She smirked. ”We just have to find it.”
