There were precious few things Aerith Vand enjoyed more than the feeling of a horse under her and the sun shining down onto her pale skin. For her, this was the supreme state of being, a form of perfection. She could easily tell that Danica did not share that view, and the Aristocrat smirked at the sight of the woman swaying in the saddle and nearly falling off. It wasn't even as if she'd been allotted a narrow horse.
The woman just wasn't good at riding.
"Perhaps we should have given you a pony to start with?" Aerith said teasingly, a wry edge to her voice as she rode along slowly, waiting for Danica to come alongside.
On the one hand, the last remaining Vand child was loath to discuss business on such a nice day outside, but on the other hand it was a perfect opportunity to find out what exactly Danica planned on doing, and Aerith couldn't exactly pass that by.
"Tell me Miss Liviana, what exactly will your media company do? Are you going to produce Sith holonet programming, or are you going to promote live entertainment instead?"
Aerith kept her tone polite and idly curious, while falling short of nosy and lofty. She was usually careful to express just the right amount of interest, and no more or less. Similarly she was invariably attentive and polite.
A Lady had to behave in a certain way, and she'd grown up in that way. It was more than a second-nature to her.

Few angry yelps left her lips before Danica found a position that gave her both – comfort and a sense of security (even if illusory). After a moment of tense silence, the Coruscanti woman relaxed slightly, deciding there were few worse things that could have happened. For example she could be on a trip with Cassius and not Aerith. At the same time, the raven haired girl was already thinking a way of paying back for this little humiliation. Maybe all that it would take was bringing Nieraan with her on a fancy, Criaxa noble dinner. Dany smiled at the thought, ignoring Vand's display of superiority. ”I had a pony once, my father had killed it.” She replied, even truthfully, if in a bit passive aggressive manner. It was a fact though - Cassius had decided to put down poor animal because it distracted his daughter from dance lessons and school. In the same way he wanted to put down Nieraan, no doubt.
Fresh air made her feel dizzy for a moment and the woman took few heartbeats to answer Aerith's question. There was something distracting in such open space. On Coruscant there were parks but....they were artificial and predictable. Suddenly Danica found herself overwhelmed with the amount of green spread so chaotically across fields, unlike neat, designed recreational areas of the Galaxy capital.
”My company doesn't deal with holonet, everything is old fashion and live. Art galleries openings, cultural events, concerts, galas, social events for upper class.” Danica began to count all she had been trained to do. ”But I like fine art the most, it is something I have been educated to do.” She added, right before the horse broke into trot. With short 'iii' noises, Dany clung to the saddle in desperate attempt to stay on the filthy animal. The woman began to cruse the idiotic thought that forced her on top of the mangy beast.
That trip wasn't going to well so far. ”I also manage....clubs...for...VI...P's...” You had to give her that thought, the woman still managed to make a conversation. ”My ...ass.... is ….hurting.” Even if less what was expected of a proper lady.
Screw it, screw Cassius and screw proper behavior.

"Poor creature," Aerith commented after Danica revealed the unfortunate demise of her pony.
While Aerith Vand was hardly a sentimental and sympathetic soul moved by the plights of the weak and helpless, she was still rather found of equines in general, and she could imagine how she would have felt had one of her own pets been killed by her father.
Yes, the Sith woman could easily tell not all was well between Danica and her father growing up. No wonder she'd stolen his money and fled to the 'enemy.' She was probably just brimming with other little quirks and acts of rebellion, habits taken up just to spite her father.
Aerith could safely say that she lacked such habits. Her terms with her father were a part of her ultimate plan, and she needed him to like her, to think of her as the perfect heiress. Perhaps in a few months she would find a way to persuade him to step down, perhaps to move on to elected office...
But, Danica's company was a more pressing project.
"Perhaps you should consider-" Aerith started a sentence, but broke off as Danica spoke again, procaliming that her 'ass' was hurting in as unladylike a manner as possible.
The Sith aristocrat laughed merrily at that, the sund of chimes ringing out, but she provided no words of wisdom or advice on how to ease the pain. Danica's discomfort was going to amuse her.
"Really Danica, you are most unladylike at times. I'll have to break you of that habit."
Aerith shot another glance at the emigre from the Republic, her blue-grey eyes taking in the awkward way the woman was sitting on the horse, looking wholly uncomfortable. A small smug smile crept onto her pale face.
"Perhaps you should consider using the Sith holonet to promote your materials. Perhaps make live performances available on other venues to raise awareness and provide additional funds. I can personally attest that we need a better opera house in the Capitol."

The woman snorted softly, rejecting any signs of pity from the other noble. ”Believe me, better this way.” Danica commented demurely, knowing fully well if someone didn't know Cassius well, couldn't really understand this statement. There were far worse fates than simple death by veterinary injection.
But he was far away now and she was free. Never again Danica would be subjected to random whims of any man. With this defiant thought, the girl kicked the horse to force it into a turn but the plan backfired badly and the animal got nervous. Stupid beast!
Danica's eyes trailed off to Aeirth who laughed out mirthfully at her plight. Of course, after all she would find it very amusing too if the roles were reversed. Despite her annoyance, the disowned daughter could appreciate this sense of humor. They were alike, Aerith and Danica, maybe all rich girls around the Galaxy had that in common. No matter their planet of origin. ”Many tried.” Dany smiled pleasantly though her green gaze remained unmoved and rather cold. She made a mental note to be as much unladylike as possible next time around.
That was funny about those stuck up, rich circles. This pressure on manners and social graces. The woman knew that to be a part of it, she had to play this game but it was amazing how at easy people like Nieraan made her. Around such simple, unsophisticated people there was no room for pretentious, pompous rituals.
”How much influence do Republic businessmen have here? Do you even allow them to conduct profitable ventures here?” Holonet wasn't the bad idea and Danica was impressed, for someone that seemed not to work a day in her life, Aerith could know a local market enough to be helpful. But what would happen if the Sith learned about who she was? Born and bred in the Core, the place most of them simply hated.
”Do you think people will accept style that came from Corsucant?” Danica wasn't nearly enough arrogant to think the Core held all the answers, especially when it came to taste.

Many had tried. Well, Danica would simply have to learn here, as it was a question of sinking or swimming. If she didn't at least wear the guise of a proper Imperial lady, then she'd be an ostracized outcast, and sheltering her would hurt Aerith's own prestige.
Danica was an investment, represented by potential profit. Aerith's mind was dominated by numbers and percentages, with precious little beyond the accumulation of wealth and of power.
The Sith aristocrat had grown into it of course, as she hadn't always been so interested in money as a little girl. She'd loved horses and animals, and had enjoyed her studies in astronomy. The aquarium she still kept never ceased to captivate her.
Danica asked her a question, and Aerith smirked a little.
Did the Republic have business interests in the Sith? Had she been asleep throughout modern history?
"Really Miss Liviana, this is the Sith Empire, we're at war with the Republic. They wield no business influence over us, and we have none over them. Yes, there are sanctions, but we have our own industries."
The other matter...
"As to the issue of tastes, you'll find art and high society transcends arbitrary lines on a map. Focus on quality, and the rest will come."

The ride was growing really dull and Danica slouched on the horse, praying it would be over soon. She wanted to eat something, wanted to rest and needed to call that damnable Sith. And yell at him if he got himself injured, probably only to annoy her. At this thought the woman gathered the reins , stopping the horse. The animal suddenly halted, almost dropping the woman who clung to its saddle.
”Can we go back? I have a business call to make.” Danica asked, trying to stay calm and pulled herself up, feeling her entire body burning from that damn ride. How you could even like this ? By being a masochist? The fallen heir tried to refocus on the conversation but maybe doing business in such setting wasn't really sensible.
So that meant Cassius had no pull here? Not at all. Her father's business kept to Republic and Hutt space, he never looked at Outer Rim, considering it a second category land. Danica would show him the error of his ways, if Aerith was right and the Rimmers really needed some changes when it came to culture.
” I trust you know your people enough to tell what they need.” The woman said, not really agreeing with the transcendental view on art Aerith held. The culture here had different basis of development, it seemed much more old fashion if not to say slightly primitive civilization with their horribly outdated monarchy. Danica doubted if modern, sometimes vulgar in it's ingenuity, art from the Core could win the Outer Rim over.

Aerith raised an eyebrow, not believing the story of a business call for one minute. This was a business meeting, and it was hard for the Sith woman to believe that someone would be expecting a call during the time she'd specifically set aside.
No, in light of the woman's lack of ease on a horse, it was definitely an excuse. She wanted out, and it was up to Aerith to determine whether or not to show leniency and grant the woman her reprieve.
On one hand, it would be most amusing to drag Danica around on horseback for another hour or two, but it would also enrage the woman, and she was supposed to be more of a partner and less of a plaything. So...
"All right," The pale woman said with a nod that bounced her curls around a little. "You my find your way back. Don't be late for dinner, and try to dress well. If you lack proper attire, we may have some for you to borrow."
Aerith continued to ride on, feet in the stirrups and posture perfect, surveying the picturesque countryside. Autumn was fast dying, to be replaced with winter. She might very well see snow overnight, or by the end of the week.
Briefly, the human woman wondered if Danica had ever seen snow...

”Find my way back?!” Danica protested but the dark haired woman already picked up pace, vanishing from view. The Coruscanti fugitive held her horse back, though the animal was determined to follow. ”No!No!” Dany demanded, pulling the reigns. The animal whizzed in a protest, but after short struggle turned to go back. Fast, very fast.
After few moments, the mare slowed enough for Danica to turn her head back, searching for the other woman. ”You damn shrew.” The girl shook her head but despite growing annoyance, a faint smirk ghosted on her lips. Aerith proved to be a demanding opponent, at least someone in close to her in terms of cleverness.
Finally. It was getting boring in the Rim with all those poorly educated sods that didn't know what taste was even if kicked them in their unsophisticated arses. Danica was still far from admitting the loneliness began to be a thorn in her side. Nieraan was often away and he couldn't really fill in all the roles.
As shameful as it was to say out loud, she needed someone to shop with, even an acquittance who could be a good rival. Aerith seemed like a woman carved in the same marble – independent, ambitious. Yes, it could be good to know her better.
With this strangely comforting thought Danica finally reached the stables, not even focusing on the road. The horse knew where to go apparently so the girl just relaxed, trying not to pay attention how difficult a simple act of walking became. And there was still a dinner to attend...
