Name: Jamie Cantrell
Race: Human
Age: 12
Height: 5’2”
Weight: 95 lb.
Birth place: Alderaan
Appearance:
If there were one word to describe Jamie, it would have to be gentle. Nothing about the young boy seems foreboding. His bright blue eyes show a sense of perpetual ease, and naivete. The contrast between the glistening blue of his kind eyes, and the light color of his fair skin only adds to the look of youth, and to his dismay, has on occasion caused others to mistake him for a girl.
Jamie’s dark brown hair is kept just a bit past shoulder length, and often hangs down over his left eye, adding a slight sense of mystery to his appearance. His soft facial features and slender build, when combined with his warm personality, project a sense of welcoming and kindness upon seeing him.
Personality: From a young age, Jamie proved that he could be a very insightful person. He had a great ability to read people, understand their intentions and who they were. He is very tolerant, and always has a smile on his face. He is relatively shy, and is never the first person to speak up, but when he has eased into a situation he tends to be the focal point of the group. He can be very playful at times, but on first glance he seems somewhat reserved.
Jamie tends to be fairly naive about many things. He has lead a very sheltered life within the Jedi temple, not having experienced any suffering or pain of any real significance. This has lead to him having a very optimistic outlook on life, almost to a fault. He gets easily stressed when confronted with physical or verbal conflict. He is very used to being able to defuse tension among people through speech, but because he has never been outside of the temple he has not yet discovered that not everything is as simple as it is within the temple. He has little understanding of war, or poverty, really anything that leads to unhappiness, because from his experience, things just tend to work out for the better. This all adds to the extreme compassion Jamie has for others. He is always willing to help, and he will do whatever he can to avoid doing anything that would make someone unhappy; Jamie often puts the wellbeing of others before himself.

Bio:
Davin and Jaina Cantrell were the owners of a small inn located in the lower levels of Crevasse city on Alderaan. Davin, who had acquired the deed to the inn in a game of Pazaak, was up to his eyes in debt. The inn barely made enough money to feed him and his wife, and to make things worse, Jaina had recently become pregnant.
Davin and Jaina did everything they could to prepare for the baby, but their worst fear was that they wouldn’t be able to afford to keep it. Together, the two of them eked their way through Jaina’s pregnancy. Davin, often passed up meals to ensure the well being of his child.
After months of barely scraping by, Jamie was born. The two were overjoyed, but their
jubilance was quickly tossed aside in fear of their future struggles. The day after Jamie was born, the results of his blood tests were finalized. Jamie’s midichlorian count showed that he was force sensitive. Davin and Jaina, knowing they could barely afford to feed their child, agreed to send him to the Jedi temple. They prayed he would have a better life than they could give him.
Jamie, had no memories of anything outside of the temple. Being brought in at birth, there was not much to ground his naivete and ignorance to the complicated world outside. All he knew was the sheltered, simple life of a jedi youngling. His earliest memories were of stories told by the jedi caretakers, of Jedi of long ago, and not to mention the sheer amazement he felt at the first time he saw a jedi levitate a ball for he and the other children to play with.
Jamie generally got along with all the other younglings in his clan. Though he never had issues getting on with most people, there was one youngling who seemed to have have it out for him. Kayla Stormborn took every opportunity she found to pick on Jamie. He was an easy target, he was quiet, shy, and really wasn’t the kind of person who would retaliate.
Jamie had an aptitude for force empathy, over what most of the other younglings had. He had always been a more observant student and his natural ability as a force empath allowed him faint impressions of others’ emotions. His ability was untrained, and as such didn’t allow him the level of cognition practiced Jedi had, however it was strong enough to play a large role in his growth as a person. Because Jamie could often pick up quickly (at least more so than his fellow younglings) on other’s emotional states and intentions, he found himself more connected to people as a whole. He hated seeing others sad, or in any sort of pain at all, he felt their pain with them, and so he did what he could to help out, whenever he could. He quickly built himself a reputation as being somewhat of a “communal shoulder to cry on”, the other younglings knew that Jamie was a good friend to talk to if they ever needed help, and he always did his best.
Because of his generally kind and helpful disposition, Jamie found it hard to understand why Kayla disliked him so much. Of course there were others who picked on him, mostly the bigger kids, who were more physical in nature and picked on him because of his size and his lack of brute strength. Kayla was different though, he knew why the bigger kids picked on him, but not Kayla; she seemed a mystery to him. She would often call him names, and put him down at almost any opportunity. In reality Kayla was jealous, she had been discovered later than most at 5. She was an orphan, living in the back alleys of Mos Espa, she had no one and she hated Jamie for being able to make friends so easily. She didn’t understand it, he was quiet and obviously shy, but people were somehow drawn to him.
A few months after Kayla’s tormenting of Jamie began, the masters caught on to what was going on between the two. They decided to force them to work together, in attempt to help each other get along. The two of them were paired up in classes every day, neither of them liked the idea, but they ultimately had no choice.
Over the next few weeks, the two of them started getting to know one another. At first, Kayla was her usual stubborn self, either ignoring Jamie or being an outright jerk to him. But eventually however, she began to realize that she had no reason to hate Jamie. She told him why she had been the way she was, she told him about growing up alone and how jealous of him she was. Jamie, forgave her almost immediately. Things were still a bit patchy between the two for another couple weeks, but by the end of the month that they were paired together for, the two had become inseparable.
Kayla was a prankster at heart, she was loud and obnoxious. Though they had almost nothing in common, their differences began to complement one another. Kayla helped Jamie to be a bit more vocal, and Jamie, Jamie really changed Kayla. She was less bitter towards others, and over the next few years, she would become one of the most well liked younglings in their clan, but more than anything else she was the happiest she had been since being rescued from the slums.
By the time they were 9, Jamie and Kayla had begun their lightsaber training. While some of the students could be aggressive, actively seeking out openings to attack their opponents, Jamie often found himself on the defensive. Jamie didn’t like fighting, he had difficulty understanding a Jedi’s need for it. Jedi were supposed to be keepers of the peace, and though the masters never presented the lightsaber as a weapon, Jamie couldn’t see it as much else and because of his inability to understand its symbology, he shirked his practice with the tool. Jamie preferred far more to focus on his force abilities.
It wasn’t until Jamie met Master Kanas’tar, that he understood the importance of the lightsaber. Master Kanas’tar, began instructing some of the younglings in the ways of the lightsaber, when Jamie was about 10. In the first few lessons, Kanas’tar completely changed Jamie’s view of the symbology behind the lightsaber. He taught Jamie to understand how the lightsaber was a symbol of the Jedi’s connection to the force. As Jamie began to grasp this understanding, he became more proactive in his lightsaber training with Kayla’s aid. In exchange, he helped her grow in her connection with the force.
Over the years, Jamie and Kayla had grown to be best friends. They had grown up together, they had helped lay the foundation for the adults they would become in the years ahead. On her thirteenth birthday Kayla was selected as a padawan. For the first time since he was a small child, Jamie was left alone. He had other friends, but he never grew as close to the other younglings as he had to Kayla, she was a sister to him, the closest thing he had to a family. So for the next year, Jamie trained alone. His lightsaber skills had grown with Kayla’s help, and he was always improving his force abilities. Now that Jamie was approaching thirteen as well, he had little time left to be accepted by a master. He feared that the day may never come, and that he would be forced to serve in the medicorp or the agricorp.

Jamie sat amongst the surreal plant life of the Temple Gardens. This was his favorite getaway. After taking a moment to absorb his surroundings, Jamie glanced down to the small chrome datapad held in his palms. With a simple press of a button the small screen flickered to life, revealing the text he had recently borrowed from the Jedi archives.
That very morning, one of the Jedi masters had mentioned something by the name of battle meditation in class. Curious to find out more, yet too shy to ask, Jamie took to the Jedi archives to find out as much as he could. A quick search of the database revealed a manifesto of sorts, detailing the lives of many famous Jedi masters known to have used the ancient force ability.
Jamie quickly found himself absorbed into the stories of battles long ago. They terrified him, the idea of a Jedi using his ability to cause so much death tore at his very soul. Jamie had never understood why a Jedi would need to fight, to bear arms, but to completely crush your "enemy's" will was unimaginable for the young Jedi.
"What are you up to Jamie?" Jamie, torn away from is thoughts, looked up towards the voices source.
"Kayla" Jamie said with a small smile coming to his face,"Just reading about something Master Kanas'tar mentioned today."
"You would be the one to read about what the lightsaber instructor teaches us." Kayla snickered "Come on, I think you'll find practical learning is far more beneficial"
Jamie reached up to take Kayla's now outstretched hand, and climbed to his feet. "Be gentle" Jamie said, pretending to wince. Kayla reached for the training saber on her belt, Jamie followed suit.
The two faced each other with lightsabers drawn, each waiting for the other to make their move. Kayla, knowing that Jamie was not the agressive type, made the first move. As her dark green blade lunged towards him, Jamie parried the blow with his own saber. Jamie made sure to take the defensive throughout the duel, never making the first move, instead always waiting for Kayla. Just when Jamie thought he had a chance to disarm her, he fumbled slightly with his blade. Kayla seized the opportunity and ended the duel, knocking Jamie's saber from his hand.
Jamie looked startled for a moment and then pursed his lips, "And that's why I hate lightsabers, I'm useless with'em"
" Only because you never practice" She said with a grin, "And besides, you're not THAT bad." Jamie raised his eyebrows skeptically, causing Kayla to giggle, "Ok maybe you are. Come on, let's go again you'll never get better if you don't try"
Jamie shook his head and reached down for his lightsaber. "Ok, Kayla, let's do this"
