Appearance Face Claim • Luke Arnold Height & Weight • 5'9", 160 Overall Looks • Enzo is not a particularly imposing man. He is of average height and weight, yet he has a talent for commanding attention. His skin is tanned and he is lean rather than bulky with muscle. Though, as an avid boxer, he is quick and capable of a powerful left hook. His dark brown hair is worn long, the weight keeping the curls from flying out of control He often wears part of it tied back to stay out of his face. Enzo keeps a short beard and mustache as well. His eyes are something of an oddity considering his heritage, a soft gray rather than dark brown or black. Enzo wears comfortable and practical clothing. But do not let looks deceive. Though the cuts and fabrics are simple and humble enough, their quality is evident upon close inspection. Enzo may not be flamboyant in his dress, but he is a man of refined and select taste. He can often be found with a curved vibroblade on his hip, along with his trusty blasters. He is never without his charm necklace, a roughly shaped crystal blessed by his estranged sister. Personality Profile Enzo is charismatic. It is easy to be swept into his his presence and difficult to escape the magnetic pull of his personality. He is not domineering, but instead seems to flow around others, guiding them in the directions he chooses through skillful nudges. He is a man that has managed to win the loyalty of over a dozen lawless pirates and steers them toward mutual gain. Full of life, Enzo is quick to laugh and share a drink... or several. He enjoys good food, drink, and company. In truth, most all of his endeavors can be reduced to the pursuit of these pleasures. To him, there is nothing better than a full belly, drunken mind, and a good story to tell or to hear. Those that join him in these pursuits are welcome, and those who fight alongside him find in him a loyalty unmatched. Those who threaten his endeavors or those who endeavor with him, however, encounter a man shackled by no laws to restrain his wrath. Though he might wave off such a term, Enzo is quite superstitious and keeps true to the many Humani traditions regarding good and bad luck. His crew, believers or not, also maintain these traditions or else quickly find themselves unemployed. Born to a family that worked aboard a House Vessel, Enzo enjoyed the comforts of life aboard a large ship. His mother, sister to the Vessel's Captain, enjoyed a fine reputation as a fair Team Lead for the maintenance crews. His father held the prestigious position of Navigator, signaling the close trust he held with the Captain. Even his sister was showing signs of a promising future as a Vident by the time Enzo was born. And yet, for a boy raised in a family that wanted for very little, Enzo always seemed to have an eye out for more. When he was small, it seemed innocent enough. Enzo had trouble sharing, but what toddler didn't? He forgot to return toys or other baubles that he "borrowed" from other children, but that was merely an issue of boundaries, nothing that couldn't be corrected. But it was when he was caught lying to his parents at around the age of 12 that they decided enough was enough. Enzo would be taught just how well he had it aboard the House Vessel, and he'd learn to appreciate that while apprenticing for his father's cousin. Enzo was a little young to begin his apprenticeship years, but his parents believed he needed the push before it was too late. Before he left, his sister, now truly building up a name for herself as a Vident, gave him a necklace with a light gray crystal. She told him she'd blessed it and that it would bring him bona sort. His father's cousin, Hector, worked aboard a medium freighter vessel known as La Domna Franca. He was a general mechanic and wasted no time in showing Enzo the basics of repair work aboard a ship. Enzo learned a great deal from Hector, but was constantly feeling himself drawn toward the other crew members of the ship. La Domna Franca was captained by an Humani woman, but many of the crew were not of the people. Enzo had met some estrani before, but had never had such extended contact with them. He was understandably curious. As Enzo grew older and endeared himself more to the estrani crew members, Hector found it harder and harder to keep him on task, or sometimes to even find him at all. This was not always a bothersome thing for Hector. The other crew members often took it upon themselves to show Enzo a thing or two, which helped to round out the boy's skills. That was, after all, what the apprenticeship years were about. Enzo proved to be a charming mascot to the crew. The security officer, a Zabrak named Kavi, took a particular interest in the boy and took it upon himself to teach Enzo the basics of boxing. Enzo proved to be a natural at the sport and continued his interest and practice in it for years on. And though Enzo's years on La Domna Franca were generally good, they were not without incident. He was often rebuked for his laziness, inconsistency in his work, and his general disregard for the authority of others. More seriously, he had been caught helping a cargo crew member smuggle spice. Had the crew member not obviously been the one running this illegal side business, Enzo might have been sent back home then and there. As it was, he'd had a month's worth of pay docked and lost privileges aboard the ship. From then on, he was only allowed to move around the ship if he was accompanied by Hector or Kavi. The remaining months on the ship were uneventful, and thus boring as hell for the young Humani. Enzo returned to his family and the Gaspar House Vessel at the next Junta. Now 19, he was full of life and ready to prove himself. His parents managed to convince his uncle, Captain Raimon, to take Enzo on as a steward. It was, for all purposes, an honor. For Enzo, it was a special kind of hell. He was at the mercy of his uncle's whims. Fetching mugs of caf, transcribing notes from meetings, running every errand that could be imagined. The young man found it humiliating. He could not see it for what it truly was. Raimon was grooming him for command, should Enzo prove worthy. Enzo did not. From the beginning, he was reprimanded repeatedly for missing his appointments, for disrespecting officers, and for the general disregard that he seemed to hold for his position. Had Raimon not been his uncle, Enzo might have been kicked out of his position a week after he started. And the truth of that was beginning to spread. Other crew members were growing resentful of the apparent special treatment that Enzo received. So, when Enzo was caught skimming trade goods to sell for himself, it was the final straw. Enzo was stripped of his position and privileges on the ship. When his parents found out, they were enraged and Enzo found life in the family's quarters was too difficult. In a rage of his own, Enzo stormed from the quarters, and took the first opportunity to leave the ship, vowing never to go back. He found himself bouncing from port to port after that. With no support system to fall back on, Enzo quickly learned what his parents had hoped to teach him so long ago. He had a comfortable life back home. For four years, Enzo was lucky if he could find a place to sleep, let alone a path back toward comfort. He boxed and worked dockyards for whatever credits he could manage. He then quickly squandered that money on booze to help him forget his mistakes, or to blame them on someone or something else. Though he knew his family had been right, Enzo grew jaded and resentful. When the opportunity to join a crew arose, Enzo ignored the fact that it was with a smuggling crew. he was undaunted by the illegality of their work. In truth, he was eager for the excitement of such a venture. Necessity and the desire to spite his family were his motivators and Enzo quickly found himself a integral part of the crew aboard the Broken Tooth. He befriended all aboard, and the captain most of all. Between his own motivations, and the excitement of their ventures, Enzo found himself active, and even taking initiative. Their business was to smuggle goods between various planets. Some were independent systems, some members of the Republic, and still others gave their allegiance to the self described Sith Empire that had been forming in the outer rim. Growing tension between that Sith Empire and the Republic was good for business, though it also meant an increase in danger. But Enzo, young and brash that he was, only saw that danger as a challenge. Eventually he managed to convince the Captain that they could double their earnings by bringing another ship into the enterprise. They could pick up and deliver to more places and more often. The Captain could become an admiral in his own right. And who better to Captain his second ship than Enzo himself? When the Captain agreed, Enzo sought out a light freighter that would do the trick. When he found it, Enzo quickly fell in love with the Virago. The Captain allowed Enzo to select a few of the crew to take with him and start up the new team. Among those he selected were Carys Corbei and Uzgrogus. It would be a lie if Enzo were to say that he selected Carys on her skills alone. She was, after all, a beautiful woman. But she was no one to be taken at face value either. Enzo had learned that the hard way when a fellow crew member had convinced him to spar with her. He hadn't wanted to hurt the poor woman, but she was the one that left him with several bruised ribs and a fat lip when all was said and done. It just made sense to keep someone like her close at hand and on his side. His reasons for selecting Grog were fairly straightforward. the Vaathkree was an exceptional cook and an incredible fighter. Virago saw success from the beginning. With connections and lines of trade already established by The Broken Tooth, it was just a matter of completing deliveries. The credits poured in and even after the cut they sent to the old Captain, Enzo and his new crew found themselves flush with cash very quickly. This lead Enzo to believe that he could take more dangerous jobs. With actual war having broken out between the Sith Empire and the Republic, there were endless opportunities to smuggle goods or raid supply lines. It was a privateer's dream. Enzo grew beyond confident. He and the crew routinely reveled in their wealth. He and Carys routinely reveled in each other's company as well. But their success did not last long. Riding high on their own egos, the crew took on a job that was more than they could handle. With the war in full gear, many of the supply lines and shipping lanes increased their security. Virago flew into what they were sure was going to be an easy catch, but were instead ambushed by several military vessels. It all happened so quickly that Enzo was never even sure which forces it had been that opened fire on them. He'd barely had time to order the crew to abandon ship before Virago began to break apart around him. He only survived thanks to Carys, who helped him stumble through the explosions and smoke of the ship to the escape pods. Enzo lost consciousness after the pod ejected from the ship. When he came to, his pod had crashed onto the surface of the nearby planet Randon. Broken and ashamed, Enzo couldn't even bring himself to look for his other crew members. When he found a spaceport, he bartered what valuables he had for passage anywhere, so long as it was far away. He ended up on Tattooine, an out of the way, nothing planet. There, he licked his wounds and ruminated over his complete failure as a captain. He was back at square one, without a home or people to support him. He did what work he could do, but kept his feet on the ground. Strange as it felt to stay planet-side, Enzo couldn't bear to get back up into space. He boxed, but most of the spectators preferred the more dangerous fights put on by slavers. Enzo wasn't that desperate... yet. But even though he was a free man, he was not treated much better than the local slaves. The Humani have reputations everywhere. Some systems view the people favorably, while others tend to believe the stories of Humani as liars, thieves, and cheats. On Tattooine, it seemed that was the prevailing opinion. As the only resident Humani at the time, he wasn't in much of a position to prove the sentiment incorrect. It was while on Tattooine that Enzo would encounter Revus Lok entirely by coincidence. Enzo just happened to be drinking away his woes in the same cantina where Lok found himself pressed into an impromptu fighting match against an opponent known to be affiliate with one of the rougher Hutt crime lords. Enzo, always a fan of a good match, maneuvered himself through the growing crowd to watch. The two combatants seemed a reasonably even match, size-wise. The fight began and the two began to trade blows in the cleared out space at the center of the cantina. The cheering onlookers served at the perimeter for their bout, ducking as fists swung and missed. Enzo even caught the stumbling form of Lok's opponent at one point. As he held the man's shoulder to steady him and prepared to shove him back toward the waiting Revus, however, Enzo noticed a glint of metal at the edge of his vision. His eyes darted just in time to see the man conceal a small blade in his hand. Enzo had never been one to begrudge people their efforts to get ahead in life, no matter how unsavory. But to cheat in such a way during a fair fight was beyond even what Enzo's shriveled sense of honor could abide. He went rigid, jaw clenching as he watched the man circle back toward the unsuspecting Lok. Enzo didn't know Lok from any other stranger at that point, but it didn't matter. Just as the cheater swung out with his now bladed fist, Enzo tackled the man to the ground. He grabbed at the wrist of the hand that held the blade, slamming it against the leg of an overturned chair until it fell and clattered to the ground. There was a pause, so silent that it seemed all those present were holding their collective breath. Then chaos consumed the cantina. Fists and furniture flew and Enzo scrambled to get clear of the brawl. When he managed to get out of the worst of it, he found himself near the man who'd almost been cut to shreds in the fight. He thanked Enzo, and introduced himself as Revus Lok as the two made their way down an alley and away from the cantina. In the days that followed, it became clear that Enzo and Revus were all but wanted men. Escape seemed the best option. And so, they stole a small freighter and put Tattooine behind them for good. Immediately, Enzo was filled with the soul-deep longing for space that he'd been ignoring all that time on that sandy rock. The stars were in his blood. How could he ever pretend otherwise? So what, then, were they to do? Revus agreed to stay on with Enzo and the two set out to forge a new path. That path would eventually lead back to the surviving members of Virago. It was not easy, but Enzo managed to convince Carys to rejoin him, though their new relationship seemed best kept as strictly business. Grog was easier to convince. In the years that followed, more joined. and their small freighter was becoming too cramped. The chaos of the war continued to provide ample opportunities for the crew to grow their reputation and their bounty. But it was when the war ended, surprisingly, that their next great acquisition would come. With hostilities over, the Republic found themselves with a number of ships they could not afford to maintain in a time of peace. Enzo managed to get his hands on a decommissioned patrol boat that would be large enough to house his growing crew and would allow them to take on larger prey. It took some time to refit the ship to their needs, but when they named La Decadencia, Enzo was as proud as he'd ever been in his life. |
