The ship jerked around, and Kvothe jerked with it, in such a fashion that he might have been thrown out of his chair were he not strapped in. Fas, however, being a free-standing object as he was, was caught off guard, and in spite of everything going on Kvothe laughed at the surprised shriek that came from his familiar. But the amusement only lasted for a second, and soon Kvothe was once more in the mode of looking to shoot down those that would dare attack his ship. Well, she did what I told her to, he thought as he gritted his teeth and turned the cannon around, searching for a target. One of the vessels passed through his sights for a fleeting moment as the Masada entered a spiral, and he opened fire. Red blasts of plasma exploded out from the two barrels of the dual laser cannon, scorching the air around them as they screamed toward their target. One of the shots impacted, and Kvothe was surprised to see them leave angry glowing trenches of molten metal in their wake. These ships are unshielded, then. Or one of them is, at least. The ship that took the hit was still operable, though, and the pilot pulled away to lick his wounds for a moment. But the other one was on them, and Masada was racked again by another hit. Kvothe swore again when the alarms changed, indicating that the shield's were getting low. He returned fire, and saw a few of his hits land, though this particular ship was shielded. The other vessel was coming back around, preparing to renew its attack. "Alindra," he called again, though his voice wavered a bit from a mix of anger and fear, "the ship's shield controls are up there, on one of the panels in between your chair and the chair I was sitting in. Transfer all of the power from the particle shileds into the ray shields. They're just using energy weapons right now, so we don't need the particle shields. That should let us take a few more hits without the shields failing."

Not even the rushed sound of the flickercat's panic could distract Alindra from keeping her turns erratic. She had to keep the ship moving in such a way where it wouldn't be hit, or at least not hit very often. If she'd been able to track where the enemy ships were and had more confidence in her flying, Alindra might have turned toward one of the ships, increasing the odds of her enemies shooting each other.
It didn't matter. Alindra was getting a stronger handle on making fast course corrections. She would even play with the speed, making it harder to be led into any approaching shots. Her hands were led upward, above the two pilot seats. Kvothe had called out for Alindra to shift the power away from the particle shields, making the energy shields that much stronger.
The notion of approaching one of the ships grew in Alindra's mind. She wanted to go after them, doing her part to kill those who would do her and her allies harm. "Kvothe, I'm going to line up a shot for you. Take it when you can."

"Gotcha," Kvothe called back. He focused in on the sights before him, and his stomach shifted as the Masada lurched about. The unshielded ship came into view, though the angle was such that Kvothe could not yet line up a shot on it. It, like the Masada was coming around in a turn, though the weapons on it were fixed facing to the front--a limitation the Masada's weapons did not have. Just a little longer...
The two ships swung around, and the crosshair eased over, closing in on the ship. Just a little more... And... Gotcha! He opened up again the moment the crosshair touched the enemy vessel, and plasma seared the airspace between them once more. The other ship was caught off, as it had not yet completed its turn to face the Masada, and with its partner vessel starting a turn to swing back around, the only attack that rang out through the air was Kvothe's. Time seemed to slow as the blasts of plasma closed in on its prey, taking with it the rage that burned within Alindra and the determination that swelled forth from Kvothe.
Flames erupted from the ship as the blasts slammed into it. It shuddered for a moment before a small explosion ripped the back of it apart and sent what remained spiraling down to the ground. "That's one! Bring us around and we'll take down the other!"

Rumbling death echoed against the Masada's hull, shaking it slightly. Alindra felt a taste of satisfaction, knowing that she had at least one less enemy in the galaxy.
Another part of her was less conflicted, knowing what she really felt. If she offended the Exchange enough, they might start hunting her wherever she went. Should such a thing happen, she would have to keep fighting the Exchange, killing them when and where she found them. And the more bodies piled up, the more prestige she would gain within the Sith. Nothing says notable like having an intergalactic consortium keep trying to kill you.
Hearing Kvothe guiding her, Alindra shifted the controls. Instead of being totally evasive with her driving, she steered on a more offensive vector, ready to attack. It may have met conventional thinking, but even if it didn't, Alindra didn't care. She was new to piloting starships, especially in atmospheric battles. She would fight and she would kill and if it meant that she would die, so be it.
Except Alindra didn't really feel that way. Her heart craved death and destruction, but not at the expense of who and what she was. There were images still to be maintained and desires to be embraced or sometimes preyed upon. And there was Kvothe. Alindra still didn't know exactly what she was going to do, but it was going to be fun.

Again the Masada shifted, and Kvothe turned his gun to put his sights on their remaining foe. Part of him wanted nothing more than to make that ship explode, to watch as the fiery remains of it drifted down to the ground with the knowledge that no one on board had survived. However, Kvothe also wanted answers. He wanted know for sure that these ships were from the Exchange, and he wanted to know who was sending them. Obviously, the crew of the ship would have to survive, and though there was no way he could guarantee that they would live through a crash landing, he could take steps to force them into one.
He focused set his aim on one of the engines of the enemy vessel as Alindra brought them around again. It was fortunate for him that the other ship was built in such a fashion that the engines stuck out to the side, making them much easier targets than they might have been otherwise. Kvothe opened fire again, and his shots slammed into the Exchange ship. But, unlike the other ship, this one was shielded, and while the initial barrage might have been enough to take the engine out, it was absorbed into insignificance by the ray shielding.
Of course, their foes finished making their turn, and they too opened fire. The Masada shook violently as blast after blast slammed into it. Alarms rang, Fas shrieked, and Kvothe growled as the two vessels flew through the air at each other, in some strange aerial adaptation of the jousting of days long past. The other ship's shielding failed as they ships passed each other, and Kvothe swung his cannon around, firing off a few shots in a desperate attempt to send it down. One of them hit as it should have, and the ship's engines burst into flames.
Down it went. Down to the grassy ground beneath it. It slid along the ground, leaving a deep, smoldering trench behind it, and came to a halt a few yards away from a bunch of large-ish boulders.
Kvothe wasted no time unstrapping himself from his seat and getting up. "Take us down to land near them. I want some damned answers." Kvothe's voice was different than it had been, as he went down to the Masada's main level. There was iron in it now, and all pretense of kindness was gone. He'd make his way to his room to get his blade, and when they landed, he'd go out to see if anyone survived the crash. And if they did, he'd make them talk.

For a brief moment, the Exchange ship was able to keep its shields intact, but they hadn't been prepared for such a direct assault. Kvothe's shots had been perfect and filled with just enough spite. The Exchange engine exploded, sending the craft into too fast a descent.
As much as Alindra was content to let the ship fall and crash, Kvothe called out as he prepared to move down to the main level of the Masada. "Take us down to land near them. I want some damned answers."
Alindra realized that the survivors might know something she could use or have something she could take. That animal part of her was still whispering, reminding her what it meant to be a scavenger. "We'll be there in just a minute."
She secured her pursuit path and descent, making sure she didn't get caught in the other ship's debris. Following a crash didn't mean she had to crash as well. She kept the Masada's course steady, coming down a short walk away from the bulk of the fallen craft.

Kvothe was in his quarters when the ship touched down. He quickly grabbed his sword and prepared to turn around and leave. Normally he'd put it in its usual place through his sash, but he didn't bother; it'd be in his hand soon enough once he made it outside. He stopped when he caught a glimpse of himself in a small mirror as he turned. His irises were red all the way through, and the set of his jaw was one that told that he was in the mood for foolishness. Kvothe supposed he might have looked rather threatening to someone that didn't know him, if those things were coupled with his tattoos and scar. How fitting, he thought with a shake of his head as he made the way out and toward the exit ramp.
Wind from the outside blew in to kiss Kvothe's face as the exit ramp descended. As he walked down and out, he was greeted by the sight of the Exchange ship a few yards away. One side of it was burning, sending up a plume of thick black smoke. Kvothe stood there, starting at the smoke as the wind took it out over the ocean. Mythos willing, at least one of the passengers would have survived the crash. He'd find out when Alindra came out to join him.

Alindra was aware that she'd exhausted her lightsaber cutting apart the Kell dragon hide. It was only an obvious weapon, not the strongest thing she had going for her. If she had to, she could always call upon the Force to knock any survivors around.
She did hope there were survivors.
For the time being, she returned her lightsaber to the hidden dock in her sleeve. The weapon was light enough that it wouldn't be a burden to her movements, especially since she had a dancer's control over them.
Moving outside, she caught up with Kvothe and took a step past him. "Well, what do you think we might find?"

"I'm not sure," said Kvothe. He started to make his way toward the smoking ruin of the Exchange ship, flexing his free hand periodically. "I hope they'll talk willingly, though. Sort of." He wouldn't mind letting a little tension out. Beating a man would probably work quite well.
He walked around to the front of the cockpit when he made it to the ship, and was pleased to see two men, though one was slumped over, either dead or unconscious. "Looks like we're in luck, Alindra." He bent down and stuck his sword into the soft earth beneath his feet. The Mythos swirled into him, and he reached out, toward the panel of glass that covered the ship's cockpit. It shattered from a push, and the conscious man blanched when he found that there was suddenly nothing between him and a very angry Kvothe. Kvothe took hold of him with the Mythos and pulled him at him. There was, quite literally, nothing the man could do to stop him. When his prey was in range, Kvothe lashed out with a fist, slamming it into the man's stomach and sending him to the ground. That was followed by a hard kick to the ribs before the man was hoisted into the air once more and slammed against the hull of the ship, spread eagle.
"Talk."

Seeing Kvothe get ready to go to work on the survivor, Alindra stood several meters back. Her hands moved to her hips, delayed only by releasing her hair from its clip. As her honey blonde locks began to dance in the air, she looked down at the survivor with anticipation.
"You'd best do as my friend says," Alindra said. Her voice was filled with sweetness and sugar. She licked her lips and bat her eyes. Alindra knew she didn't have to actually be convincing, just attractive enough to get the right reaction. "There's only one thing worse than making him mad."
She left her comment vague, knowing that the one thing she was referring to was herself. But the survivor didn't know that and there was no reason to tell him.

"She's right," Kvothe said with a wry grin, "you'd best talk, or you're gonna be in a world of hurt." Yes, if the man proved to be stubborn he could always just hand him off to Alindra. An angry Kvothe led to getting punched, kicked, and slammed around. An angry Alindra? Given some of her previous showings, it wasn't something Kvothe wanted to imagine. The ball was in their captive's court, though; if he talked, they'd take the information, and then he'd die with relatively little pain. If he didn't... well, then he'd die after going through a great deal of pain. "Who sent you? Why?"
The man picked his head up from the hull of the ship. Kvothe noted that his eyes were an icy blue as they locked with his own. A thoughtful look passed over the man's face, but he said nothing, and instead spit at Kvothe's feet. Kvothe had him hanging in the air before he could blink, and with a wave of his hand, slammed him into the ground. "Talk." Again, though, he got no answer. He felt his teeth grinding as his anger grew hotter. The man was slammed back into the side of the ship again, but this time, Kvothe held him low, toward the ground.
"Listen," he said darkly as he started to stride over, "I'm not asking you to talk, I'm telling you. You'll make things a lot more bearable on your part if you cooperate."
The man spit at him again, though it missed. "Why should I be afraid of you? You're worthless without your powers. Hell, I could kick your ass if you didn't have 'em."
Kvothe released his hold on the man and grinned darkly. "You think so?" His fist struck out, taking the man in the ribs hard enough to crack one. That was followed with yet another blow to the stomach, and then Kvothe spent the next few moments going to town. It wasn't something he'd normally do, but he was so angry, so incredibly pissed by the attack that he didn't care. Blow after blow fell onto the man, and before too long, he was on the ground.
Kvothe crouched down over him. "Maybe you should think before you make claims like that, yes?" He picked the man's head up by the short brown hair that topped it, which illicited a pained groan, though he didn't particularly care. "Talk."
"Why don't you go f*** yourself?"
His grip tightened on the man's hair for a moment has he jerked back, which, he was pleased to see pushed the groan to yell. However, Kvothe's patience was wearing thin. "Alindra, I do believe he's going to be stubborn." Kvothe turned his eyes to glance at her. "What do you think we should do about that?"

"Alindra, I do believe he's going to be stubborn." The slight shift in Kvothe's eyes was Alindra's cue to take over the interrogation. "What do you think we should do about that?"
A full smile flashed across her face. Stepping forward, Alindra said, "I'd like to give him something--something good." She moved close to him, putting her face in front of the survivor's. Her lips pressed against his, the pressure opened his mouth a little, and Alindra's as well. When she backed away, Alindra asked, "Did you like that?"
The survivor was unsure of himself. He'd expected something else. Questions, a beating, but not a kiss. "Um... I did."
"That's great," Alindra said. Her voice stayed even and pleasant. "You know, you should do something about that cavity in the back on the top left."
"Cavity?"
Opening her hand, Alindra eased out with the Force. Fine control was still new to her, but she managed to wedge the survivor's mouth open. She used her fingers to reach inside and pinch the tooth with the cavity. "This tooth. It's got a cavity right here." Alindra's thumbnail poked into the hole and the survivor started to gag, choking on his screams. His mouth couldn't close, since Alindra still held it open with the Force.
Pulling her hand out, Alindra said, "I hope you'll answer my friend's questions. If not, I'll have to do what I can to repair your mouth, but I should warn you, I'm not a licensed dentist." Alindra glanced back and smiled. "Kvothe?"

"Well, friend, what will it be?" Kvothe laughed grimly as he contemplated what might lie in store should the man continue to resist. "You already know my questions. Answer them."
"We... we were sent after you because of some datapad." The cocky defiance that had been in the man's voice was starting to fade, replaced by the fear that was brought on by the realization that he was really quite powerless. "I... I don't know more than that, I swear."
"Again with that damn datapad?" Kvothe scowled. What had initially been an accident, a random happening, was turning out to be quite the annoyance. Something would have to be done about it at some point, because he was starting to tire of all the attacks. He didn't buy that what the man said was all he knew, though.
"Surely you know more than that," he said softly, pulling with greater force on his captive's hair. "I could've figured that out without beating the daylights out of you. What else do you know? Who sent you?"
"I don't know! I'm just a grunt, I swear! Orders never come directly to us from the top anyway, so I don't know who the orders come from! Please, I'm ju-"
"Shut up," Kvothe said as he let the man's hair go, causing his head to fall roughly to the ground and cutting his words off. "What do you think, Alindra? Think he knows more, or do you think he's just trying to save his skin?" He looked over to his sword, still sitting up in the ground where he'd left it. Soon it would be red with the man's blood. "Though, he shouldn't really be too concerned about that last thing."

"I don't think our new friend believed me." Alindra waved her hand, snapping the survivor's mouth wide open. "I promised him that there was something worse than your interrogation, isn't that right?"
Gagging sounds came from the survivor. It wasn't clear if he was agreeing, disagreeing, or screaming.
Alindra didn't care. She took her place again, shoving her hand into the survivor's mouth. Her fingers pinched the tooth with the cavity and started pulling. This wasn't simple pulling, it was backed with the Force. No set of tools could have been filled with such torque, enough to move something far larger than a tooth still wedged within a jawline.
With a firm tug, Alindra pulled her hand free of the wet mouth. She took a deep breath before grabbing the survivor's hand and thrusting something into it. Her fingers curled around the survivor's, clasping the fist tightly closed around the stolen tooth.
"Now," Alindra said. "Why don't you tell us a little more? Unless you'd like to see your patella, I'd recommend you start talking."

Panicked moans filled the air for a few moments as the survivor's mind reeled from a new wave of terror. The pain that pulsed from his mouth didn't help any either. Kvothe let him whimper for a little bit before moving to get back to work. "Alright, now you've been told that you could've prevented that by answering the question. But you were stubborn. So I'll ask you one more time: who sent you?"
"I don't know! I keep telling you I don't know!" The confidence in the man's voice was gone completely now; all that remained was the terror that was evident in his screams. Kvothe could feel it coursing wildly within the man, pushing out against his control as he struggled to hold it in. Either it made him act foolishly or some survival instinct kicked in, as he suddenly tried to push himself up to his feet to run away. His attempt didn't get him anywhere. Instead, he ended up with Kvothe's knee going into his spine as the Rilan shifted onto him, forcing him onto the ground. It wasn't hard; Kvothe was stronger than this man, and he kept him pinned quite handily.
"Nice try," he said dryly, taking the man's hair in hand once more. "Now talk. If you don't know, tell us what you do know. Unless you want Alindra t do more work on you."
The man whimpered sadly. It seemed for all the world that he was going to start sobbing, but he didn't. "Nar Shadaa. Whoever the boss is, they're on Nar Shadaa. That's all I kn-" He was cut short when Kvothe pulled harder on his hair to tilt his head further back. "I swear I'm telling the truth! We don't even have a major division here on Ruusan. We... we've just been here for a little while to pick up the information that you ruined. Someone probably got word back to the boss, and he's probably pissed off. That's all I've got." Tears started to well up in his eyes and his voice started to waver as he finally began to break down. "I'm just a low-level guy. I don't know any more, I promise."
"You're pathetic," Kvothe muttered as he let their captive's head fall to the ground once more. A pull of the Mythos brought his sword to his hand. "What do you think Alindra? Time to put him out of his misery?"

Shaking her head emphatically, Alindra looked at Kvothe in total disagreement. "No. There's still something else I want to know." With a turn of her head, she added, "And if you tell me, I promise you, I'll make no effort to take your life."
Crouching, Alindra sat on the heels of her feet, looking at the survivor at the same eye level. There was no malice in her movements, no effort on her part to persuade or intimidate. She felt the survivor had a choice to make, one she intended to pay properly, though the form of payment was dependent upon what the survivor did.
His body was bruised and torn. Most of the damage he felt came after the crash, a direct result of Kvothe and Alindra doing their work on him. His mouth looked the worst, coated in a thick layer of oily crimson. As he opened his mouth, a small drop of color fell over his lower lip. "What?"
"Simple. You have a boss on Nar Shadaa. I want to know his name, what he looks like, and a general idea of his temperament. Tell me that, I'll see to it that you live."

Tears flowed down the man's cheeks as he began to sob openly. Were he not so angry at the man, Kvothe might have felt pity for him, and the way he looked more like a toddler than a grown man. Attacking Kvothe was not a way to get pity out of him though, unfortunately for the survivor; when Kvothe had his targets set on someone he'd go to hell and back to get them, and this wasn't even near the top of the list for some of the hardest trials he'd gone through to get people. "I keep telling you I don't know! I'm telling the truth! Please... just leave me alone..." He put his head down onto the dirt, babbling incoherently as a wave of sobs racked his body.
If he expected that to get mercy from Kvothe though, he was sorely mistaken. Kvothe shifted more of his weight from his left leg to his right, forcing his knee harder into the man's back. Again, his hand went to grab the man's hair so he could pull his head up. "What do you mean you don't know?" He stood up and pulled the man up to stand before him, holding him up with the Mythos. "How do you not know who your own boss is?" The point of his sword went to rest on the survivor's back, with just enough force behind it to gently prick the skin. His jump might have been amusing if Kvothe wasn't so angry.
"H-h-he doesn't reveal himself. Not t-to low level grunts like us. Some of the higher-ups above me say he goes through multiple 'bosses' to keep his identity hidden from the people he sends offworld, to keep things like this from happening. Please, I'm telling you all that I k-"
"Be quiet," Kvothe muttered, with a sharp poke of his weapon. His eyebrows lifted when his attention drifted to Alindra once more. "Satisfied?"

It was inconceivable. Everyone knew at least something to call their supervisor by. Even slaves could answer the question the survivor had been asked. But no answer came, only cries of ignorance, again and again.
The boss didn't reveal himself, not to grunts, not to anyone. For all this guy knew, he could have been taking orders from a hundred-year-old computer program. Kvothe was just as surprised, but looked to see if Alindra was satisfied.
"He's an idiot. Honest, but an idiot. And I did promise him that he would live, so I'll live up to my end of the bargain."
Alindra felt the edges of the tooth in her hand, especially the roots. She twirled the tiny bone between her fingers, looking over the survivor's back. Noticing a little spot below the left side of his ribcage, Alindra punched the flesh there, wanting to know the reaction she'd get. A strained grunt of agony spat out of the survivor's mouth, telling Alindra that she'd picked right. Backing it up with the Force, she slapped the tooth against the survivor's skin, making sure the roots went down first. She followed it up with a few slaps, making sure that the tooth went just below the surface of the skin.
Leaning to his ear, she said, "You'll live, but if you take that out, I don't know how long you'll last. When your friends and your anonymous employers ask who did this to you, tell them it was Alindra Vordrinn. Show them your tooth and tell them this is what my mercy looks like."
Alindra rose, turning to Kvothe. "I'm tired of dealing with this guy. You feel like getting out of here?"

"Yes, I'm ready to be gone as well," said Kvothe with a nod. "But, before we go..." His attention turned to their captive one final time. "You might have promised that you wouldn't kill him, but I made no such claims. But I'm feeling generous, so I'll give him the chance to live, at least." Color drained from the Exchange man's face, but Kvothe was on him before he could do anything.
Screams filled the air when Kvothe's sword bit into the man's side, but he didn't cut deep enough to kill him. Not immediately, anyway. "You might survive," Kvothe told the survivor as he feel to the ground, his body wracked once more my cries of pain. "Of course, you might bleed out. Not a fun way to go; trust me, I've come very close to it, before." He crouched down to wipe the man's blood off on his own clothes. "Though, should you survive, you'll have something to remember me by as well. In fact go back to your higher ups and show them the scar, because that cut is going to leave one. Tell them Kvothe Algaterra sends his regards, eh?" Silver threads played through his eyes as the red finally started to fade away.
Kvothe stood to his feet again and turned to leave. "What happens from here is up to him now," he said when he passed by Alindra. "And perhaps luck as well. That's always a good thing to have. But if he lives he lives, and if he doesn't, I doubt anyone will complain."
He came to a stop a few feet away from Alindra and turned to face her. The red was gone from his eyes completely now, and they were back to their natural hazel. "But that's enough about him. More than enough. Let's get back to heading back to town."

"A bit competitive are we, Kvothe?" Alindra asked the question in a cutesy, but mocking tone, the only real note she made on Kvothe making himself just as known to the Exchange. Only if the survivor actually made it back to his employers.
Taking up her seat again, Alindra flew them the rest of the way back into the city. She was curious to see how things were going to play out. They needed to get the dragon hide tended to and Alindra wanted to pick up a new outfit, something nicer and not meant for travel and fighting. An image was also starting to come together of the kind of wardrobe she was going to need if she was going to actually start converting people to the Sith in the way she wanted.
When they started their final descent, Alindra said, "I hope you don't mind, but I need to take care of a little something as soon as we make all the arrangements with the dragon hide. I won't take too long, though." Smiling, Alindra set the Masada down.
