Like any good listener, Jazen waited while Master Kota and Art spoke their minds as well. He listened in absolute silence, quiet contemplation. Taking in the knowledge, piecing it together with the other knowledge he had already acquired today. His eyes watched Art first, his ears taking in his explanation about how much faith a Jedi should put in the Force. For one so young, Art spoke with a manner and insight that made him as wise as a Master. Then again, it could just be the confusing mumblings of a child looking for answers. Still, it was something either way...and it made his head hurt.
There was some truth to it though. Jazen knew all too well what happened when one followed their emotions completely; Umgul was a constant reminder of that. But he had to disagree about not following one's emotions in some way. If they didn't, they would be nothing but cold shells, unfeeling in their decisions towards their tasks. Without compassion to guide them, the Jedi would approach tasks just like their Sith counterparts. Without caution to sway their actions, they would blindly leap into battle before considering what could come as a result. Even love, despite its effect on one's choices concerning another, was present in its own way. How could one touch all the life in the galaxy in the Force if it did not care for it in a way? The thought brought the image of Talau to his mind and for a brief moment, Jazen blushed. He quickly hid this fact from the others though, retracting slightly in the Force. All in all, emotions did guide them in their duties; it was the depth at which one followed those emotions that defined them.
He then turned his attention to Master Kota's answer. The praise about his wisdom sent tingles up his spine, a feeling he'd come to define as joy. Whenever Locke or Talau or anyone above him gave him similar praise, the tingle would return. He had to admit; it was something he was beginning to like in excess. And as they entered the massive archives, Jazen's face morphed into a carefree grin, then returned to its contemplating squint. He turned to face his comrades, responding to Art first, then Master Kota.
"Art, I'm still a padawan. The braid is sort of a dead give away. But to answer your question...I've not especially felt that way, no. Its true that we should open ourselves to the Force, to allow its brightness to guide our steps and our actions, I don't believe we should put a completely blind faith into it. If, for example, it brought you to choose between following its path and the life of a person in front of you, would you allow it to dictate your actions? Would you abandon the duty you had been given to follow the Force, or would you leave its guiding path to do what you know needs to be done? Quite a puzzle, isn't it?
And for the most part, yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. If we see that action over inaction will allow us to prevent the greatest loss of life, would we not make that move? On more than one occasion, striking first has been the only thing that has saved not only my life, but the life of my Master and of those we are trying to protect. Its not the choice many of us would like to make, but I believe it is the one necessity we must learn to make. Looking for the least violent solution should always be our first priority though."
