The speeder's acceleration pushed the exhausted woman back against the seat. She was still panting from the exertion of getting Bane safely in the speeder. As she struggled to calm her breathing and her thudding heart, the world around her blurred. Was it the speed?
Her eyes turned to look at Itani next to her. She had trouble keeping him in focus. Nope, not the speed. She opened her mouth to speak, but her lips stuck together, her mouth dry. "Itani, I..."
But there was a darkness creeping in around the edges of her vision. Her eyelids felt as if they weighed a hundred pounds. Her neck couldn't support the weight. As her head fell back against the headrest as she finally gave in and closed her eyes. From that moment, she gave in to her fatigue. Itani would be blessed with silence the rest of the return trip, spare for one moment when the speeder banked and Trin stirred. Without opening her eyes, she mumbled, "I love you."
The sudden stop of the speeder jarred Trin from the depths of her unconsciousness. She heard Itani exit the speeder, the sound of the door closing hurt her ears. Then the hatch at the back had opened, and there was scraping and the sound of men lifting something heavy.
Her eyes still struggled to focus as she groped for the latch to her door. She finally managed to open it and swing her legs out. As she stood, vertigo sent the world spinning and she had to grip the side of the speeder until the spell had passed. Her stomach was reeling and she took deep breaths to try and calm it.
I'm sure you want to do a multitude of things TO me but they can wait until you have been checked out. Doctor's orders.
She lifted her eyes and three Itani's swirled before her. She took a step away from the speeder and staggered, her hands automatically grasping the nearest object. That nearest object was Itani. Her hands held his arms in a vice grip as she struggled to keep her feet. Her face fell against his chest and she didn't have the will to lift it.
"Make me." she grumbled, a hint of a chuckle escaping against her will.

((Sorry that I am playing your character here... I can change if its unacceptable so just say so Meira.))
Trin looked out of sorts. She seemed like she was having a hard time staying upright much less taking his advice and following Bane off to the infirmary. The young woman supported herself with the speeder but as she straightened the assassin saw he legs buckle and he stepped foreword only to have her fall gently against his chest, hands wrapping tightly around his forearms. He recognized that it was Trin's tenacity alone holding her upright.
"Make me," she said, a hint of a smirk and chuckle echoing from the closing tones. Itani sighed and smiled, concern about any potential condition fading against the physical assault of her body pressed into him. Taking a deep breath he hauled her upright with a mighty effort before slipping her grip to slide beneath her , keeping the mandalorian warrior on her feet. His lips curled into a smile.
I don't have to make you. I said doctors orders and humans always listen to the doctor. Now come on.
Saying no more he hauled her foreword step by step until they were walking slowly down the cramped hallways of the Mandalorian base. Some of the Togorians and other soldiers stepped aside to give them room, the assassin nodding at each of them in turn. Though he hardly though of it as quality time he might have pulled Trin a little tighter than he needed to. Everything considered and thanks mostly Bane, they were lucky to be alive.
He didn't speak as they walked; Itani was decompressing. His mind wandered back to everything that had happened, reviewing everything that actually made it to long term memory. Everything had been efficient, effective up until Bane got himself hurt. They made it to the speeder and made it back... but why was he continuously on that moment so much. Indeed, his mind seemed to linger at that point longer than the others. Itani blinked, trying to remember; something in the background of the speeder's engines. It took him a few moments to recall it but as he did his eyebrows rose noticeably.
I love you...
He was shocked back to reality by the words, the pair turning into the infirmary just as he got a look of moderate shock over his features. The attending doctor gave him a look and he shook his head, edging past the man he took a quick glance around the bay. A few of the tables were filled and he could not see Bane but he continued on until he found an open bed.
Here. Lay down...
Gently he slung her off his shoulder and offered the bed. The doctor on duty approached a moment after and he motioned questioningly at the young woman. In a single movement he had pulled his mask off to look at the doctor eye to eye.
Look after her; she was pretty badly tortured.
Turning back Itani slid his face next to her ear in a single quick movement, planting a small kiss right below her ear and whispering back to her from earlier.
And I love you.
Stepping back he nodded and turned, finding a chair on the other side of the room that was unoccupied. For some reason, even though the situation was pretty damned FUBAR, Itani could not keep himself from smiling. His brain kept yelling that he was getting too close but his heart silenced it easily. Taking the seat he pulled off his gloves and pursed his hands, trying to relieve some invisible cramp that wasn't really there.
Loves me... now don't that beat all.

The smell of salt and sweat filled her nose. She couldn't see. Smoke filled her eyes, making them sting. She was listening, but the words in her ears seemed distant and hard to understand. Burning fuel choked the air in her lungs. She couldn't move.
There was something she was supposed to do. It was around her, somewhere. Her hands groped throught the smoke and mud. They found... something. A detonator. She was supposed to...
"GO!"
She heard her voice call out and echo all around her. Shapes moved through the smoke. She tried to follow, but her legs wouldn't move. Then the silence came and the smoke cleared around an overturned transport. Trin's eyes caught the glint of the sunlight off something.
Suddenly she was thrown, her cries going unheard in the chaos of the explosion. The world was spinning, growing dark. She could see their bodies, contorted, unmoving. She landed, her face in the ground, inches from another. His eyes were wide, no breath disturbed his lips.
The smell of salt and blood filled her nose. "Wake up." She shook Bane's body, but he did not stir. "Wake up!" Itani's eyes would still not blink. The darkness was creeping in around her, choking the air from her lungs. "Wake up!" She could barely lift Sol'usad's body to shake him.
"WAKE UP!"
Trin's eyes shot open, and as her lips parted to gasp in air, her torso lifted from the bed. She heaved, wide eyes darting around, hands pushing away piles of blankets. In the predawn twilight, very little light filtered into the makeshift medbay, making it near impossible for Trin to see. She threw the stifling blankets down to the foot of the bed. The sheets beneath her were drenched in her sweat. Tense hands felt her body. There was a bandage on one hand, holding three of her fingers together. They throbbed with every beat of her heart. With her good hand, she felt along her face. Another bandage covered an area of her cheek that felt as if it were on fire. SHE felt as if she were on fire. Her throat burned and every muscle cried complaint as she tried to move.
"Wa-" she coughed, "water..."
She still could not see. Her hands groped outward and around her, colliding against some sort of tray and sending its contents clattering to the floor. A dizzyness was trying to seize her, but she fought against it. Where was she? Had they made it out of the ambush? Why was it so dark?

The rest of the day passed slowly reducing Itani to a ball of nerves and sharp objects. His muscles ached from the day, bruises grew beneath his armor, but he had a hard time closing his eyes for long stretches of time. For hours he couldn't get his mind off of the irony of this situation, in fact several times he had laughed to himself as the doctors bustled here and there throughout the remaining day. He was no soldier. Hell, he never wanted to be one but here he was running high risk missions like a soldier would and had emerged from two different suboptimal situations with little more than sore, stiff muscles and a bruise or five. He, an assassin where the others... his eyes would wander to Trin every so often; Trin and Bane... If the galaxy were a fair place I should be the one laying there. Not them. He dwelled on those thoughts through the twilight and on through the night. When the shifts changed the staff shrank, most folks going home or to their bunks.
Itani remained behind.
He did not know where Bane was but, given his rank, he knew that the Mandalore would receive the best care available. He did, however, remain in view of Trin; one glance upward and he would see her. For hours he sat in silence, rehearsing anatomy or old hits as he watched after her. Finally the hour grew late and his eyes grew heavy; his head nodded slowly until he was breathing softly, the hard backed chair accommodating him as his chin met his chest.
An indeterminable amount of time later Itani's head snapped upright out of his reprieve. He heard movement, ruffling of clothes, a ragged cough and voice that could only have been from one person. It took him a breath to compute all of the sensory data but in a moment he was on his feet, mask and gloves discarded on the floor.
"Water..."
Stopping and glancing about he found an unopened bottle of water on a food tray and snatched it, striding to Trin's bed in several quick steps. He saw her moving in the darkness, arms out and searching as it knocked over her own tray. Something seemed... off about her actions. Too chaotic.
Trin. Calm down, take it easy. I'm here.
Carefully he turned and took a seat on her bed, twisting the cap off the bottle before taking one of her hands and guiding it to the bottle so she wouldn't drop it. The little voice in the back of his mind prodded him to say something goofy, whacky, but he resisted and smiled at the young woman through the shadows.
Drink it slowly. He smiled as his eyes followed her. You gave us quite a scare. The docs treated everything from bruises and fractures to acne, so I think you will be fine. He sighed and shook his head. He knew that he should not be feeling anything but relief was certainly one thing that was etched into his features. An eye glanced out one of the far windows and he noticed that the horizon was beginning to change colors; it would be sunup soon.

The mattress springs squeaked as a weight shifted the balance of the bed. Trin found her hand suddenly full of something cold. The bottle of water felt heavy to her weak arm, but the hands held over hers were strong and warm, and familiar. She brought the bottle quickly to her lips, barely hearing the instruction to drink slowly. That instruction was ignored in her haste to quench her thirst. She coughed and spluttered, spilling some of the water onto the floor. Wiping her mouth, she cleared her throat, then took the instructions to heart.
"You gave us quite a scare."
Trin lifted her eyes. Through the shadows and the dim predawn light, it was hard to make out the features of the face that hovered before her. It seemed so much like a ghost, she wondered if she was still dreaming. But every movement, and the subsequent shock of pain it caused, reminded her that she was indeed fully awake. Part of her was glad for the pain. She was alive, awake, and so was he. The fear that had gripped her so entirely was fading with the images of the dream, soon to be lost altogether.
"The docs treated everything from bruises and fractures to acne, so I think you will be fine."
Her hand once again felt along her face where the skin burned. She chuckled, the movement stirring a deep ache in her chest. "I always did have terrible skin." Her voice was still hoarse and rhaspy. She took another sip of the water, then set it down on the table next to her bed.
The light was growing slowly. The details of the area around her bed were coming more into focus, the colors starting to emerge. She studied the blankets, the walls, and the floor, before her eyes returned to Itani. The smile she gave him, to answer the look on his face, was weak. He looked completely beat, as if he hadn't slept in days. She reached out her good hand, running it along his short-cropped hair.
"What happened?" she asked, letting her hand drop back down to her lap. "Did we get everyone out of that ambush?"

Slowly the light grew from the predawn light filtered in through the limited windows dousing the room in an otherworldly shadow that was deeper than night. All the while Itani's eyes remained on Trin, his thoughts moving this way and that as he scanned her eyes and face, shifted to watch as she shifted and sipped at the bottle of water. He thought of how happy he was that she was safe, that she had survived a very tight situation, and one other thing.
She looked like hell. Sounded like it, too.
The assassin's mind never strayed to that thought more than once... twice. He found himself smiling even broader, his concerns removed for the moment as he enjoyed her company for the first time in what felt like an age or more. Hey, it couldn't have been that bad, she laughed (kinda) at one of his one-liners. It was how she smiled, however, that brought his concerns, the reality of what had happened to the fore. Sure they were safe, for now, but what was next to come? He mentally removed those thoughts, enjoying the predawn light, the soft bed, her smile however weak for just a little while longer. Gingerly she reached up to him, running her hand through his short hair.
"What happened?" she asked, slowly letting her hand fall back to her body before he could bring his own hand up. "Did we get everyone out of that ambush?"
Noble... to care about the others before herself.
Yeah, we got everyone we could out. I did not hear of any major casualties to our side though I believe the Togorians lost several. The Republic lost a number but we didn't stick around to count corpses.
He placed his bare hand on hers, squeezing it gently against the soft background of the covers.
We only spent a few hours around here after; I told Bane I wouldn't rush off after you... and I would have. We left together, infiltrated and, well, you see where we are now. Bane is recovering, shouldn't be out for more than a few hours if a day.
Placing his other hand on her shoulder he moved his face a little closer to hers, wanting her to see how scared he had been even if he didn't say it outright. It would have seemed foolish of him to even consider the feelings he was feeling only a few months ago.
She said she loved him. Itani found it easy to reciprocate... in fact, the feelings he had at that very moment could certainly be classified as love.

She nodded at his response. There were casualties, there always were, but he seemed to be saying that, all things considered, they'd done well. She was glad for that. They'd found themselves in thigt spots before. Hell, it was part of the lifestyle. But this had been a bit too close Especially with Bane as Mandalore now. She wondered, briefly, how it would change Bane. He'd have to be more careful. He wouldn't be able to lead their missions as he had before. Or, at least, he'd have to take a less active roll in the missions.
Itani's hand on hers brought her out of her thoughts, focusing them, and her eyes, back on him. His next words were heard, but not understood. He'd promised not to come rushing after her? He and Bane left together? Had she not made the dash to regroup with the others after covering their retreat? They had to go back out to the vehicles?
She blinked, her confusion evident in the features of her face. A few hours? Infiltrated[/]? And Bane was INJURED? Her mouth opened, wanting to speak, but she didn't know where to start. Itani's other hand found her shoulder, and then he was closer. She saw the concern in his eyes, but she was missing something.
"What do you mean, infiltrate?" she asked, her eyebrows knitting together. "How did Bane get hurt?" She could feel that deep terror gripping at her chest again, the confusion, the smoke, the blood, all the images coming back to her so quickly. The dirt, the sweat, her ears rining... then nothing. She could feel her heart speeding up. Why was she scared?
"How long have I been here?" she asked, her eyes widening slightly as she looked around the room once again. Had she been injured badly? What had she missed? Were they even still on Togoria?

Her eyebrows knitted as the assassin saw her mind working. The distinct sense that something was wrong slowly seeped in once more as Trin appeared to be searching for something that may not have been there at all... but how was that? Itani blinked twice and pulled his face back as she looked toward him, expression neutral and unreadable.
"What do you mean, infiltrate? How did Bane get hurt?"
All at once his heart sank.
"How long have I been here?"
Even as his hands lingered on her shoulders he could feel her breathing become more rapid, heart rate accelerating to a level he was intimately familiar with; she was panicking. Her head pulled out of his embrace and looked this way and that around the room, looking as though she was trying to make sense of everything that was going on. Swallowing, Itani slid closer to her, wrapped his arms around her back, and pulled her against his chest. He hoped that the close contact would calm her down and maybe help her make sense of things as she seemed to not remember anything.
In his head Itani was just as scared as Trin, wondering if there was something that the Republic had done to her, if she had been injured in the ambush... if it was his fault. At that notion he mentally browbeat himself for even getting attached to her, again, before pulling her tighter. His second thought was one of relief; black blades... she doesn't remember? Good. Itani let the embrace linger for a while longer before gently releasing her and allowing his arms to fall, one returning to his side the other lingering on her forearm. He had to do something... say something.
You don't remember Bane's moment of glory? Well, that will piss him off... He chuckled awkwardly as his mind raced.
What to do... what to do? Call someone... doctor? Orderly?
Shaking his head he tried to calm himself down. She had been treated; if this was something life-threatening they would have caught it. They must have...
You've been here for six, maybe seven hours. The ambush happened quite a few before that. Y... He paused a moment.
You were captured by the Republic, Trin. Bane and I sprung you with all the subtlety of a tactical warhead. Not how I wished. He thought. He got hurt but we made it back with both of you intact...
Sighing he leaned back, removing his hand from her arm, and blinked again. Where have I heard about this before...? Seems... familiar.
You don't remember anything? You seemed cognizant when it was all happening. Reaching to the bedside he picked up an examination micro-light. His curiosity was starting to get the better of him and he got closer to his face, shining the light from one eye to the other to see how they responded. He saw no change from normal.
What is the last thing you remember?

Bane woke up in a decent amount of pain, but he had been through worse. His mind slowly began to process everything around him, no doubt he had been out of it for awhile. He cringed ever so slightly as the memories from the rescue came to him. Bane had done some crazy things before, but this was up there. Bane was a soldier, not a bureaucrat, his place was out in the field. As he attempted to sit up, he winced once again, not because of the pain but because he was beginning to make excuses for himself.
"Sir, how are you feeling?" came a voice from his right
"Terrific" was the gruff response
He turned to see one of his Spec Ops soldiers, the one medic he had brought along. Bane looked around and didn't see anyone else on beds, a reassuring fact. He took a few moments to make sure he was completely functional. There were cuts and bruises all over, his head hurt like crazy, but all in all he seemed fine.
"Report, Sergeant" commanded Bane
"Sir, you sustained a minor fracture to one rib. Numerous cuts, most were superficial. You should be able to move around in a day or so, full recovery within two weeks."
Bane had experience enough brushes with death to know that he had gotten off lucky.
"Corporal Velos and Itani?"
"Corporal Velos sustained minor injuries but is otherwise fine. Itani Firians had no need for medical attention"
Good. It would have been quite pointless if one of them had died, and Bane would've felt completely incompetent.
"Sir, permission to speak freely?"
"Granted"
"Sir, you are the Mand'alor, you have been chosen to lead our people. You shouldn't be going off into the field like that, at least leave it to others...sir"
"Noted, sergeant. Now take me to where Corporal Velos is" was Bane's calm response.
As Bane stood up and proceeded out of the medical room, he knew the sergeant was right. He could have lashed out at her, reprimanded her, but she was only stating what he already knew. No doubt there were more lectures like this once he returned to Concord Dawn. Bane would have rather heard it from one of his own soldiers, then from one of his 'advisers'.
Eventually they arrived at the central infirmary where the general troops were being treated. Bane stood at the viewing port, he could see everyone. There still weren't too many soldiers here, they had managed to make it out of the original ambush with minimal casualties. Bane then spotted Trin, with Itani rather close at her side. He considered going down to see her, but something told Bane this wasn't the right moment. There were many things that still needed doing, and he had wasted enough time sleeping as it was.

He pulled her in to his chest and Trin did little to resist. With her cheek against him, and his arms around her, she tried to calm her breathing. After a few moments, it seemed to work, and Itani released her. She continued to constantly control her breath as he spoke.
"You don't remember Bane's moment of glory?" She shook her head. "Well, that will piss him off..." In spite of herself, she let out a chuckle.
Then he told her how long she'd been here. He told her about the ambush and how she'd beed captured. Her brown eyes had been gazing absentmindedly at the blankets, but at the word "captured" they lifted suddenly to meet his, as if looking into his eyes would confirm his words to be true.
Captured? Trin looked away, her inner vision searching desperately for any kind of memory that might make sense of what he was saying. She was so intent on trying to dig up the memories that she barely registered the part about their less than stealthy rescue mission and Bane's injury. It was probably for the best.
"You don't remember anything? You seemed cognizant when it was all happening."
She shook her head again. Frustrated, she closed her eyes tight and bit her lip as she tried to recall anything. But nothing that he spoke of surfaced. She opened her eyes to look to him again, but was met by the sudden bright light of something Itani held close to her face. At first, she flinched, even trying to bat his hand away. But when she realized what he was doing, she held still until he turned the light off.
"What is the last thing you remember?"
She blinked a few times, trying to rid her vision of the dark blob the light had left behind. She tried to reach back into her thoughts again, but it was all a chaos. She closed her eyes, trying to concentrate and sort through what she could remember.
"I remember... landing, the transports... We were ambushed...." Smoke. "I was covering the retreat..." Fire. "Something went wrong with the explosives... I was thrown." Blood. Eyes. Nothing. "And then...." Nothing.
She shook her head. "I don't know." When she looked back up at him, her eyes seemed defeated, apologetic. "It just goes black."

A Trin began her recounting of the events which had unfolded only a short while ago Itani hovered over the woman. Small things lead to big problems as his master alw- wait, that was a male enhancement holo-vert. His eyes were drawn up by movement in the periphery and he noticed Bane, ever the stalwart hero of the land, step away from the entrance and out of sight. Good to see him up and around, he mused as he picked up a few more tools from the orderly's tray and checked a few small things while she spoke; ears, reflexes, and a quick stethoscope. However, even as she spoke the last few shake syllables of what she remembered Itani could only shake his head.
There was no symptoms of concussion or other major head trauma, no bleeding from the orifices, no bloodshot eyes regular reflexes and breathing, standard pulse and heart rate. The doctors here knew their trade.
Considering everything she went through, Trin was in remarkable health and practically on the mend already.
"It just goes black."
"Hmm." Itani stepped back, putting a hand to his chin. He could think of one thing this condition might be but there was a risk involved; as with anything. At least he could test it. "I know I'm not going any crazier... 'scuse me. I need to visit the little assassin's room. Try to remember anything else. And drink; you'll feel better.
Turning, still with the stethoscope around his neck Itani strode quickly away from Trin, dodging the other tables upon which the injured lay. With a push he was out the primary doors and off down the hall. There were no other windows into the infirmary and just after he reached the last he stopped outside of view and propped himself against the wall.
If she remembers the effect should be temporary, no harm done, heal like normal. If not... well we'll always have that time under that tree on the farm.
Huffing he waited a minute or two, glancing at his bare wrist to pass the time. With everything that had happened the last few days they were some of the longest minutes of his life so far. When he was satisfied he simply went back the way he came, crossing in front of the windows with the same stride, same expression until he came back to the main doors. A push and he was inside again, weaving through the tables toward Trin.
Right, missy. Do you remember anything now?

"Hmm." Trin's eyes watched Itani as he stepped back and thought. She bit her lip, worried that there was something seriously wrong with her.
"I know I'm not going any crazier..."
"Huh?"
" 'scuse me. I need to visit the little assassin's room. Try to remember anything else. And drink; you'll feel better."
She watched him walk away, her face still contorted in an expression of confusion. She watched him go through the doors, then pass by the window. When he was out of sight, she turned her eyes away, reaching for the bottle of water and taking a sip or two.
Her eyes stared into the middle distance as her mind again searched for the memories that she was apparently missing. Itani had said she seemed coherent when he'd come to rescue her. How could she not remember it? It was frustrating, but useless. She couldn't remember anything.
"Right, missy. Do you remember anything now?"
She started as her eyes quickly looked up to find Itani standing by her bed once more. She hadn't seen or heard him reenter the room. Assassin indeed.
"Huh? Oh... no?" Her eyes studied him again, unsure of what he expected her to remember in only a minute or two. "Is your lighter bladder supposed to help my memory?" She offered a slight smile with the words.
Though she was still very confused, Trin's anxiety was slowly decreasing. She was awake, sore for sure, but alive. And so was he. Bane lived as well, though if she saw him, she'd have a few choice insubordinate words for him... All in all, everything seemed to be as alright as it could be. Things could certainly be much worse.
She sighed. She didn't want to be in this room anymore. Sitting around on a bunk wasn't going to jog her memory. She needed to get up and move. Swinging her legs over the side of the bed, Trin moved to stand. Her legs wobbled slightly as they took the weight of her body, but with one hand on the bed for support and the other sticking out to balance, she managed. The floor was cold against the soles of her feet, but it felt good after the heat of the heavy blankets.
The gown still clung to her frame; her hands pulled on it until it hung loose and free from her shoulders. Taking a few steps, she looked around but could see no clothing. Giving up on that, she made for the door.
"Can we go outside?" She said, turning her head to look at Itani. "I feel like I can't breathe in here."

"Huh? Oh... no? Is your lighter bladder supposed to help my memory?"
The slight smile that accompanied her words put Itani over the edge. His lightened heart from having her safe and sound, the fact that she was up, and now her cracking wise in humor had clenched it. Itani's face lit up like the dawn which had just started to peek into the room in which they sat. Bringing a hand to his mouth he couldn't help but laughing for a moment at the simple humor of the moment. Taking a deep breath and gathering his wits to him he stepped closer to her, leaning over to look Trin in the eye.
I think I may be having a negative effect on you. That is, if you call finding humor in any situation negative. Turning he plopped hismelf down on the cot, removing the stethoscope and placing it on the side table. I do believe, in all my medic-ish wisdom, that you will be fine. The memory loss should be temporary and start coming back in a few days to a week or two. Chuckling he placed an arm on Trin's shoulder. It isn't as though you missed much pleasant, anyway.
Blunt though he may be, Itani could think of no other attitude to take. He was a mess of emotions; pleased that Trin was alive, relieved that she didn't have any permanent damage, scared that he might be wrong, frustrated that Bane and Trin had taken the fall while he came away unscathed... one big muddled mess.
For the moment everything remained still, the sun slowly worked its way down the far wall and onto the floor through the windows that looked like they could use a good cleaning. In the silence, Trin's weight shifted and Itani glanced right. She had swung her legs over the edge of the cot, bare legs pale in the early sun and was angling herself to sit more upright. The assassin's eyes widened as he knew what moving right now might do... but there was nothing he could really do to stop her. What could he say? She was a Mandalorian warrior woman... he was a thin sprout of a butter-brained man, no match. All he could think to do was spring to his feet, his soles squeaking on the polished floors. She seemed unstable for a moment as she placed her weight on her limbs, finally standing properly with a grasp on the bed to stabilize. She was dressed in a cloth tunic and pants, bare feet white against the tiling.
Bare feet... not good.
Swinging around his eyes scanned the room for something Trin could put on her feet. His gaze alighted on a pair of cloth shoes, little better than slippers but something more than she was. A few steps was all it took before Itani snagged the pair of cloth things and turned back.
"Can we go outside? I feel like I can't breathe in here."
His look came up to her face which looked pained, slightly agitated and uncomfortable. He blinked twice and returned her gaze with his own brand of smile before walking over and pitching the shoes to the floor in front of her, the left before left and so on.
Hospitals are like that. Its the smell; I cannot stand the scent of antiseptic. If we are going anywhere, especially outside, I suggest those. Who knows what Mandalorians leave laying random around a base; shards of glass, scrap metal, live ammunition, mines... It would make me feel better.
He smiled and stepped up next to her. Whether she put the shoes on or not he was not going to leave her side for this. She had fainted in the speeder; not again. He would match her step, slow and smooth as the pair of them moved toward the exit. Passing through the doors he turned with her in the direction of the nearest exit. For a moment his brain got the better of him, doubt nagging at if this was the best thing for her at the moment.
Shut up brain. I've been listening to you way too much lately.
But...
But nothing. This is about her!
This is way too risky...
Slowly turning his head he looked at Trin, thoughts by the hundreds whizzing through his mind. Only one lingered and seem to pierce the foggy veil of the others, her words.
I love you... well. If she forgot about that, too... damnit brain!

For a moment, she thought he was going to tell her no. If he had, and she'd not been so sore, she'd make sure he was. But he hadn't, so she didn't have to worry about putting the hurt in him. He did, however, insist that she cover her feet and tossed a pair of slippers to the floor in front of her. When he stepped closer, she reached for his arms for support as she slid first her left, then ther right foot into the slippers.
They moved then toward the door of her ward, then he steered them both toward an exit. When the door opened, Trin's flesh immediately rose agaisnt the chill of the morning air. But after a few moments, she aclimated to the temperature and her skin settled back to normal. They found a bench in the sunlight and Trin sat, taking in a deep breath as she settled into the seat.
This was much better. Early as it was, there was little foot traffic among the paths around them. The air was still and silent, and the light from the rising sun was warm on her arms and face. Closing her eyes, Trin took a few moments to breath and remember Itani's evaluation of her. She'd be fine, memory would likely return soon. All was well.
"So what happened? What did they do to me?" she asked, opening her eyes and turning her face toward Itani. "I get the feeling this didn't all happen at the ambush" She gestured toward to patch on her face, and her body in general. By the way he'd hesitated before, when he told her she'd been captured, she could guess it was something along the lines of being beaten until she told them what they wanted to hear.
She just hoped that when... if her memory of the events came back, it wouldn't bring back something she'd regret.

The pair moved slowly, Itani bearing the weight of his friend across one shoulder and taking everything a single step at a time. He would not let her fall, could not let her go for the fear that, if he did, he may not be able to get her back. Thoughts shifted this way and that but before long he would return to his place at her side, enjoying the comfort of their bod-
Woah, woah! Whats got you waxing poetical? This isn't me, do it right.
((>.>))
Do. It. Right! DOOOO EEEEEET R-
((...))
Itani's mood was light, airy, as they crossed the threshold of the main infirmary doors. The air was still slightly chilly from the twilight and he felt Trin shiver, her lightly clothed form still unused to the temperature. This seemed to right itself in a hurry and he found himself guided by her sluggish movements, finding a bench several feet away and sliding to a seat. The weight off his shoulders felt better and he slid to a seat next to her, giving her a glance that looked critically for any signs of problems but still retained its wide smile.
For a moment they sat, neither doing anything particular noteworthy save just sitting, soaking up the early sun's rays, and enjoying each other's company. For the assassin the relaxation felt strange, out of place for someone like him. While he realized he was reiterating the concept mentally it was hard to not enjoy the variety of sensations even if just for the moment. Trin seemed to be stable and enjoying the fresh air, despite a few moments of breathing heavily, which was even more of a victory for her
"So what happened? What did they do to me?" she asked as the assassin turning to look at her. "I get the feeling this didn't all happen at the ambush".
Your feeling is quite accurate. I suspect it was the standard torture routine for Republic enemies. If reaction is any indication you certainly had something against this sauced looking sergeant when I set you free. The choking was a bit on the retributive side to be just another soldier.
Turning back to watch the rising sun he remained silent for a moment, thinking of anything else that he missed or forgot to add He hoped that his black blades were completely forgotten and everything else would be remembered in time.
I'll tell you what, it wasn't the best of ideas. However, the fact that you are sitting here today is more of a relief than you can know.
Thats as far as he would go into it. The serious stuff would also return in time, for now let them continue to play on what bliss the temporary ignorance offered.

She looked down to her feet as Itani answered her. She swung her legs gently, feet sliding in and out of the slippers on the ground. Standard torture routine... that didn't make it sound so bad at all. She almost chuckled. But when he mentioned a sergeant, her eyebrows furrowed. Choking? Certainly she would have remembered choking someone to death...
But it wasn't there. Her mind was blank on the subject. The frustration returned, but Trin held it at bay, chosing instead to focus on the warmth of the sun, her feet, Itani's breathing. She let it all go. If it came back, then fine, if not, she was no worse for it. What could be so bad about not remembering being tortured? If anything, it was a kindness that she could choose to be greatful for. Perhaps that is what she would do.
I'll tell you what, it wasn't the best of ideas. However, the fact that you are sitting here today is more of a relief than you can know."
Trin chuckled then, shaking her head.
"I'll tell you what." She said, flashing him a smile as she spoke. "I haven't been Mandalorian all that long, but I've learned one thing real quick. Mandalorians aren't known for having the best of ideas. Don't want our heads getting too big for our helmets, right?"
She laughed, already feeling much better. Still sore, but much better. Then, a thought came to her mind that stopped her laughing, causing her to pause. Where was her helmet, the rest of her armor? Part of her assumed it was all with the smiths, being cleaned and repaired where needed. But she had a sinking feeling in her gut, a knowledge that she couldn't place nor recall, but she knew was there, somewhere. It wasn't here. Trying to lock down that thought and bring it into focus was like trying to recall a dream, like grasping for smoke. It just slipped right through her fingers.
The disturbing part was not so much the idea that her armor was gone, but ache that such knowledge caused. She knew she was more than her armor, the phrase was one of the firsts that she learned in Mando'a, but her armor had been made when she joined the Spec Ops team, when she trained under Sol'usad himself. It was a symbol of her new life, her future. She would live without it, get new armor and forget the old. But the sadness had been sudden and she had to recognize it for a moment before she could let it go.
After a moment, she leaned her body into Itani's, resting against him for a moment, then let her head fall onto his shoulder. He was a good man, little that she knew about him. But she knew enough, she supposed. She knew he'd patched her up before, scared the wits out of her, made her laugh so easily too. She knew he came to save her, regardless of the insanity of the act, and that he must have sat watch over her ever since they retuned. He was a good man... the kind tha she could love.
"Itani," she said, her eyes looking out across the grounds as the sun bathed them in its light.I love you. She almost said it, but something stopped her. Perhaps she wasn't ready to say it just yet. But the thought made her smile.
Then her stomach growled.
"Let's get some breakfast."

The sun was slowly creaping its way into his eyes and Itani sat back against the bench, hoping to put off the squinting for a few more seconds. Though it was futile his charge's voice found its way to his ear, the comment drawing a smirk and threatening to draw a laugh up from the depths.
"I'll tell you what." He glanced over at her, enjoying the brief appearance of a smile. "I haven't been Mandalorian all that long, but I've learned one thing real quick. Mandalorians aren't known for having the best of ideas. Don't want our heads getting too big for our helmets, right?"
Itani could not help but chuckle at that.
Trin, I've been Mandalorian my whole life and I know, with some personal experience added to the mix, that our ideas are not the best ever concieved. And don't you worry, our heads are already much too large for our helmets. In fact, I heard about these two guys th-
((No.))
Itani blinked.
What? They were bad!
((Its dead. Drop it.))
I'll drop it when I can't carry it anymore, not a moment sooner! I got your point, scram.
((Fine. Carry on))
Rassum frassum... Uh, never mind... I'll tell you some other time, doesn't matter for this anyway.[/color]
With the courtyard silent again Itani went back to admiring the cobblestone bricks of the squat wall across the way from their bench for a moment before he had to squint and look away. The sun had finally come fully over the short wall, forcing him to look away, eyes shifting right with his head until they were level with Trins...
Incoming head!
He nearly jumped as she leaned into him, her head falling gently onto his shoulder. The silly side of him slipped away in that moment, leaving only the Itani who cared for the woman, eyes blinking in neutrality, mouth barely open as a smile slowly crept over his face, an arm slipping around her shoulders to squeeze her, hold her against him as they basked in the warm morning sun. Together.
Now that was an odd concept.
"Itani..."
He started, looked down at her as her hair fluttered gently from the warm breeze that had worked its way up from the gently cresting fields around the complex. The sound was unmistakable in Itani's mind, the same tone and suggestion exactly matching that from the speeder the day before. He waited for her to speak for a moment but nothing arose from her, nothing but the gentle heartbeat and rhythmic breathing against him.
Yeah?
A marked grumble broke the tense silence and Itani looked up, blinking. He looked down at her again a smile swiftly spreading across her cheeks.
"Let's get some breakfast."
Smiling back at her he sighed. He wasn't in a rush and would much rather she found her thoughts on it again before pushing the matter any farther. He knew now that it was certainly mutual and... maybe he'd say something soon, maybe not. He only knew that his days as a cocky smartass were soon going to be blended with a cocky, smartass, loverboy. He could live with that, for now.
I couldn't agree more.
Standing he offered his shoulder again and helped her to her feet. Remembering the cafeteria was back inside he slowly lead her back inside. He hoped she would be able to walk soon or he'd become some musclebound beefcake, he chuckled to himself at the thought. Another one slowly came to the forefront as they pushed their way through the main doors and into the lobby... one that she wasn't going to like.
I suppose this isn't the best time to bring this up but... I'm not cut out for the military. Too many people, too much risk.
He gave her another grin and steadied herself on his shoulder.
As soon as you are all healed up and Bane has things well in hand with the Togorians I'll be leaving. Not forever, mind you, just a while. Do a few more jobs, get this wanderlust out of my system. He caught himself before he missed something incredibly important. B-but don't worry, I'll be back before you even realize I was gone... in fact that may be more true than I even thought...
He shrugged as well as he could as they passed into the cafeteria.
At least I have something in the Mando military that I can safely say... has made me think twice about... where I see myself... in the near future.
Itani smiled at her once more, returning his eyes to the floor once they had gone a few steps.
The silly side care roaring back in its own cocky, but rather quiet way.
Don't you ever do that again, it was BS!
((You'll get over it.))

"In fact, I heard about these two guys th-"
Trin glanced her eyes up and to the side when he paused. She was about to urge him to finish the sentence, but it seemed he'd thought better of it. With a mental shrug, she'd let it go and returned to enjoying the morning.
When Itani agreed that breakfast was a good idea, they'd stood and made their way back toward the buildings. Trin still leaned some of her weight on Itani's support, but she was carrying more of herself now than she had on their way outside. She hoped the trend of feeling better would continue once she had some food in her stomach.
"I suppose this isn't the best time to bring this up but... I'm not cut out for the military. Too many people, too much risk."
She almost tripped over herself at the words. She pulled back from him slightly, so as to better look into his eyes. He smiled, as if to reassure her, but Trin couldn't understand why he might smile at such words. He continued on, saying he needed to treat his wanderlust... that he'd be gone once she was better. Just like that? She couldn't believe it. Well, she could... but she didn't want to.
Honestly, Trin didn't know what to think. She knew about Itani's profession and could assume what kind of lifestyle it required. But she'd also thought... What? That he'd give up everything and be at my side every moment from now on? She'd barely even started to understand how she felt toward the man. Expecting something like that was ridiculous. But it didn't stop it from stinging.
She tried her best to keep her features neutral as she nodded at his words. They'd found their way into the cafeteria and she moved to stand more on her own as they took their place in the serving line. He was trying to reassure her that he'd be back.
"Yeah... of course." was all she could manage as she busied herself with getting a tray and cutlery. She was sure she was blushing; her neck felt suddenly warmer. She turned her face away from him, mentally chastising herself for being so juvenile.
"At least I have something in the Mando military that I can safely say... has made me think twice about... where I see myself... in the near future."
See? What do I have to complain about? Trin finally glanced back toward Itani. Once her eyes connected with his, she couldn't stop herself from returning his smile. She could see something of an internal debate in his eyes. Like he knew the news wasn't what she wanted to hear. She certainly hadn't wanted to hear it, but he was right. He had to do what was right for him. And it wasn't like he was going away forever. She couldn't change this part of him, and part of her knew that she wouldn't truly want to. Even if it meant watching him leave.
"Well I won't be going anywhere." she said as a cafeteria worker served her up some sort of hot cereal. The next worker in the line loaded her up with a helping of assorted fruit. "Will you at least bring me a souvenir?"

((Please forgive the roughness of this post))
If he was not being serious on this matter the look in her eyes would have made him chuckle. He half expected himself to pause, draw back, and laugh the moment away as he dismissed the feelings behind those eyes as a joke. As he returned the look Trin was giving him, Itani wished to the force, to manda, to Mr. Clean that such was actually the case. Despite his obscene attitude all Itani could really do was sigh and try to convey how serious he was at this moment.
As the two of them stepped up to the tray line, Trin taking her weight off of his shoulder, he brought his guard up against cutlery, trays, glasses and saucers. Were it anyone else and his usual antics he had no doubt there would have been flying china but the only thing Trin managed was; "Yeah... of course."
If Itani's heart could have broken that would have been the moment that it shattered. The looks, the soft almost hurt voice wounded him and he swallowed hard, managing to keep his terse smile carved in his cheeks. However, as he picked up his own set of cutlery and glass he felt his stomach drop out, as though he was abandoning her. Subtly shaking his head he cleared the thought; he would be back! Not only that he would be ready to settle down, ready to devote himself to something solid, meaningful... ready to give up the childish games and really love someone other than himself.
But I keep the sense of humor, the sneaky ways, the... hell, I'll keep everything but those gorram games. They were gathering dust anyway.
As they worked their way farther up the line to where they could finally get food Trin silently turned to look at him. It was that moment that almost robbed him of his smile for her eyes held equal measures of hurt, reassurance and... blushing? The assassin's patented cocky smile lit up once more. She turned away at that moment and he shook his head; fully this time.
"Well I won't be going anywhere."
He realized had nothing to worry about. Trin was strong, confident, beautiful...
Yes, but will she wait for you? You are some manner of beanpole... there are all kinds of burly mandos out there that will snatch her up in an instant...
"Will you at least bring me a souvenir?"
A hearty chuckle escaped his lips as he began to pick up a cup of yogurt, eggs, bacon, toast, juice; all the essentials of a balanced breakfast. He wondered how he was so lucky to have this woman, of all the women in the galaxy, as a friend. Maybe even a little more.
Now that is something I never thought of. He said, exiting the line beside Trin, only a moment's movement away from supporting her if she needed it. Do you collect snow globes or are you the shrunken head type of girl? He chuckled again as he slowly walked beside her, hoping to find a table quickly in case Trin got uneasy again. He spoke quickly before she had long enough to answer him.
I'll see what I can find. The galaxy has some interesting things that I could bring you. Would you rather it be a surprise or did you have something in mind?
He smiled at her again, glancing up and into her eyes once more. This smile was sincere and kind, lacking any of the usual malicious humor that he had a tendency for in regular conversation. He wouldn't realize until later that he had finally fallen, utterly and completely, for Trinari Velos.
