ok i'm kinda new here...but I know a great way you guys can get alot more publicity.
PODCASTING!
You could do several. One would be updates to the site and just a general RP discussion. Another podcast could be acting out a few select stories. Get a narrator and do like 10-15 minute shorts based on the RP's already on the forum.

I really...can't say anything.
Not sure if that's a horrible idea or a good one.

Do we really need that much publicity? We get plenty of new members just by people searching or visitting from other sites. Thing is we arent exactly a proffesionally run site. Just a rag tag group of people who love Starwars RP. If we did something like a podcast and we were successful I wouldn't be surprised if we were suddenly swamped by a rediculous amount of new players.
just my two cents
Not saying its a good idea, or a bad one.

no publicity isn't really needed...but it'd be a fun project anyways.

Well, I won't be able to do it. I am in no way willing to lend my face, voice, or any other physical characteristic to the internet. I like remaining the almost completely anonymous amorphous one.
If you can get the stuff to do it, then there isn't a problem I see with it. You'd probably have to talk to CG some. I agree with SF it could end up being more trouble than it's worth if it grows successful, most don't though.
New doesn't always mean better. I have several pairs of pants that prove that.

Weeellll....I unno....'tis a bit of a double edged sword now isn't it. We can manage the site as it is here and now, and for the forseeable future with normal growth...but if we had a sudden influx of like over 9000 new players...we'd be pretty much...well, it starts with an F, and ends with a D and has to do with fornication. Also...we'd have to deal with...n00bs...*shudders*. I consider this site to be a somewhat upper level RP site, we have a rather good level of standards and expect a good amount out of our players. People with no experience, well, you all know what its like.

I agree with all of you that this may have negative effects. I'm not gonna push it too much, I just thought it would be a good idea. There aren't many Star Wars RP Podcasts that tell stories. So here are the pro's and cons gathered up!
Pros:
1) make star wars fans around the world happier! ;D 2) lets other people know SWURP2 is awesomely sweet. 3) fun project.
Cons:
1) Would have to speak, but could retain anonymity by using character names. 2) Possible influx of spamming users. (would be kept to a minimum, with the currently in place requirements of character creation) 3) Not enough staff to sustain a large amount of users.
* and this topic can be closed if everyone is done discussing this*

Mainly, this site is an intermediate level Roleplaying group. Some of our writers are good enough for a pro site, but we don't have the rules setup or really much in the way of factions/plot like it should be if you want it decent for smooth gameplay. If we were swarmed with new players, it'd overwhelm the plotlines and factions and we'd basically have to get our S*** together. Each group would effectively become a faction, I'd suggest that people only have one or two characters and never on an opposing side. Our plot would probably be followed closer...yeah It'd require an entire new revamp and I don't think any of the mods are really willing to spend that much time and effort into this site. If it was the summer I might, when I had nothing else better to do... As it is, I'm not paid enough for this

The first one is like 900 pixels wide then it shrinks to like... 730 pixels.

Is there such a thing as a pro site? I know that there are ones on paid servers, but I don't think people actually get paid for their writings, heh. It would be nice, though.
Yeah, Podcasting might be for a day way further in the future. It's like the A-Bomb of advertisements. We only use it if we really need to.

however.. it would be fun acting out the scenes.. there is no denying that. all we need is skype/ Teamspeak/Voip.... w/e. its really simple and i have expereince with SW podcasting. also you would need a mac with garageband up to date. anywho thats my two cents.

I won't name names, wouldn't be nice.
I haven't found one where you get paid, but I've run into at least one very professionally done website involving roleplaying. Star Wars Evolutions was a VERY good one, everyone writes extremely well, to the point where you just feel out of place when you jump in out of nowhere.
Visions is somewhat easier to get into but it's somewhat biased. Visions is more...professional due to it having an actual rules database and setup on battles and combat. Both have actual websites. The writer quality, in my mind, combined with the plot and faction management have a large part to do with it.
When everything runs smooth, that says the mods are doing a good job.

also you would need a mac with garageband up to date. Uh, or any other computer with a decent audio editor. I hate that everyone thinks macs are somehow better at computing that the next computer. anyways, I think that this would be fun but wouldn't really serve a purpose other than entertainment (a noble goal). Though if done this would be more of a summer job when people have more free time. I think Myn spoke for all as he put it "I don't get paid enough for this."

true macs are really no better than PC for audio recording. A simple program is Sound Recorder which is a pre-installed program in windows. Another good one is Audacity.

Macs are rubbish, they just have a decent marketing department.
I don't think it's a good idea. It seems that the mods are stretched as it is, and getting that much publicity would certainly dilute the RP talent pool. There'd be a lot of idiots to deal with, and a lot of pompous "RP veterans" to subdue.
To put it from a Star Wars point of view... it would be a bit post-Battle of Endor, the few existing mods would have to promote more regular members to mod to handle the new influx of members before they'd earned the title, much as Luke Skywalker did with at the beginning of his New Jedi Order. /geek
I think things are fine as they are, there's a lot of different things going on and more people would just overwhelm the staff.

Sure this is dragging up a dead thread but heck, I'm bored and my muse is about as big as... well, it isn't, let's just leave it at that.
But, I've seen another forum where they did this and is was quite good, forgot what the place was. But they kind of used it as a news update on important/popular events on the forum, maybe pointing out a couple of interesting threads and then there was some reading.
Now I wouldn't actually mind doing this. But only when we have a lot more members, otherwise it'd most likely be pointless. Like at the moment, for example, it's not really worth the effort. And the acting out the scenes would be a bit odd to do, although I understand the concept.
Also, y'all would have to put up with my accent.
