Lieutenant Vaelis Savic shifted in the orange and red dress coat issued by the republic like most she had worn in her life it itched and was almost uncomfortably tight around her upper chest and shoulders, but she could endure the discomfort long enough to great the new platoon. The young Lt. looked down at the data pad clasped in her left hand as she turned the corner to the barrack and operations area trying to impart the names blazed on it in bright blue text to memory one last time. The din from the enlisted area tended to echo in the hastily raised garrison structure and today was no different as the young woman could hear snippets of shouts drifting trough the shared halls.
Vae scrutinized the door to the briefing room like one might do a tall hill they intended to climb for several moments before, with a quick intake of breath, she squared her shoulders and walked into the room. The first thing she noticed upon entering the room is that someone had decided that the door should be in the back of the room apposed to the side entrance that most of the other briefing rooms had. The second was that besides weasel and a few of the others towards the left back corner of the room a good half of these soldiers had to be at least five to ten years her senior.
The red-head marched trough the room the chattering of enlisted on both sides of the walk way unperturbed by the interference of the junior officer in their midst. As she approached the front with a bit of apprehension in her step she carefully set the data pad she had carried with her from her quarters on the desk before her took a deep breath and turned to face the group of soldiers with her hands resting at her sides. "Attention!" She hollered out to be heard over the din of the crowd whom after a few moments died down and at least started to pay some half attention to the small woman at the head of the room. "Thank you." she said a moment after the murmuring died down to a reasonable level. "I, am First lieutenant Vaelis Savic and republic command has decided that I was the person they wanted in command of this unit." She crossed her arms over her stomach then. "As you know this is a new unit which is why several of our members where chosen from more veteran squads that includes Staff sergeant sarsyn who will be our executive officer. Sergeant would you please join me up here?"

Staff Sergeant Korben Sarysn had seen many things in his years in the military. He was relatively young when compared to his peers, but he attributed that to a litany of accomplishments and experience rather than an ability to get his nose brown. Korben had told the enlisted to show up to the briefing room thirty minutes prior Lieutenant Savic's arrival. Role call had been called fifteen minutes prior to her projected arrival and the few stragglers trickled in. The final one was, thankfully, a few minutes before Lieutenant Savic's arrival.
Then she arrived. In her dress uniform, no less. Had Korben not had legendary military bearing his palm would have met his face, and then promptly moved across his bald head. Not even the most greatest of echani masters could have picked up on the pang of embarrassment he felt for the woman. What an echani master could have picked up on, however, was the annoyance and rage he felt for his new platoon. They kept talking after she entered the room and walked around them. Some greeted her, thankfully none saluted because their hats were off of their domes, but most kept talking.
He was about to bellow something rather obscene when the lieutenant sounded attention. When she spoke he nearly shook his head. The new units generally got the unwanted and less than satisfactory members of the other units. Giving away your best wasn't exactly good for mission accomplishment, after all. In his experience, though, it was the new units with the otherwise shoddy soldiers that performed the best. He couldn't quite explain it.
"Yes ma'am," Korben responded in a surprisingly casual tone as he walked up to her side and folded his hands at the small of his back. This lieutenant looked to be half his age despite the fact that she was a year younger than him. Maybe it was because he was a grizzled old soldier with a bald head and she was pretty little red head. He didn't know. He did know that it was his job to mold her into a capable leader. One that wouldn't get all of the men and women killed.
Surprising that it was his job, considering their status as special forces.
"I'll be your platoon sergeant. I've worked with some of you before," a little smirk broke that stoney facade, "and some of you haven't had the pleasure. I'm an easy guy to work with, ask some of the other guys." Sarsyn saw some men smile and nod as he motioned towards them. A few murmurs began in the crowd, but he cut it off with a hand motion. "I'll turn it back over to Lieutenant Savic, here. Ma'am," he looked over at her and patiently waited for her to speak.

Sgt. Lila Styles had arrived early for the platoon meeting, as had become her custom since reaching the rank. She had few responsibilities as a leader, this was for sure, but with the formation of a new unit, under a new Lieutenant, it was probably smart to be there before roll call.
With a nonchalant tilt of her head, Lila acknowledged the Staff Sergeant, a man while younger than herself she had grown to respect through his lofty reputation. He was a man she was proud to serve under, Sarysn. She flashed a wolfish grin his way before finding her place.
Filing up nicely with the others, Lila stood the picture of relaxation in her standard issue cargo pants, a very nondescript white tank top, dog tags dangling from her neck swished together as she shifted, elbowing the person to her right as the formal figure entered soundlessly into the room.
Lieutenant Savic did not strike an imposing figure, being small boned and pretty, she reminded Lila almost instantly of a doll she played with often as a child on Zeltros. A doll she had eventually broken, being a rough and tumble sort of kid. The group continued talking and Lila stood back and watched, smiling at the irritation on Korben's face before Vaelis spoke for herself.
Introductions seemed to have been in order, she said her piece and Korben quickly stepped up to say his own, though as the words were about to leave his lips Lila snorted, a chuckle coming out.
"Is this a joke?" She asked her voice full of mirth, one arm crossing over the other as she appraised the woman before her. "What're you, like twelve? I know its fun to play dress up, but can you ask your dad to hurry up? I'd like to get this platoon meeting under way." Her tone, while joking more so than malicious, had an edge of seriousness. What was the Republic thinking, putting some nobody Academy brat in charge of a special ops platoon during a war?

Meelo was fresh off a transport onto Taris when he got his orders to report for his new platoon's first meeting. He was given enough time to find where he'd be bunked and then followed a few others as they made their way to the meeting room. Once in the room, Meelo selected himself a seat toward the back and quickly propped his feet up on the table.
Roll was taken, and then they waited as more stragglers made their way in. Meelo tuned most of it out. He'd have plenty of time to get to know his new platoon-mates eventually. He certainly didn't need to be trying to learn names now. So instead, he leaned back, clasping his fingers behind his head and closed his eyes. The din of other voices in the room made it so easy just to start to drift off.
That is until the door opened next to him. At seeing the woman's uniform, Meelo decided he could probably put his feet back onto the floor for now. She made her way to the front and he watched her. Not having had anyone talking to him at the time, it was nothing for him to quiet down when the woman called attention. When she introduced herself, Meelo lifted an eyebrow. How old was this bird, anyway? Meelo wasn't really one to talk about age, but the people in charge always seemed older, and in his experience, more... male.
From the side of the room, another voice interrupted the introductions and Meelo naturally turned to find the source. His eyes fell on a Zeltron woman who looked like she could tie him into a knot with one hand. Her words caused an amused smirk to cross the Balosar's lips. She had some balls, this one.
Slowly, Meelo extended his antennapalps. If this woman's words were going to rile up their apparent leader, he certainly didn't want to miss the show. Once extended, they immediately registered the Zeltron's mixture of jest and genuine curiosity, as well as the general discomfort in the room that her words had caused. Meelo smiled again. If nothing else, this woman would ensure at least some entertainment.

Vae would be lying is she said she was confident as she stood in front of the room full of soldiers several of whom she knew where older and more experienced than her. Still, having the Staff Sergeant at least follow without any gruffle buoyed her mood a little bit. As the gruff looking bald man came down to where she stood she took a few moments to look over the man. He looked older than vaelis and was very stocky and unlike her, he actually looked like he fit in his republic issued casuals. As the man stopped and stood next to her vaelis gave him slight nod and a small wane smile before schooling her face back to a look of calm as he continued.
As he spoke she carefully observed how the other members of the platoon were reacting to what Korben was saying while the young red head spread carefully timed nods as he spoke. Vaelis tugged on her left sleeve slightly, a nervous habit she had never quite gotten rid of, as the larger man finished what he wanted to say and looked over to her. Clearing her throat slightly she thanked the staff sergeant before swinging her attention back to the crowd before them.
The Lieutenant was about to continue on when one of the other soldiers spoke up back farther into the room. Even without having read the dossiers she would have known the white shirted woman as her skin noted her as Zeltron and there was only one in the entire platoon. Vae’s eyes tightened slightly as the woman asked about her father. Certainly the woman didn’t actually know of her familiar situation and the woman quickly squashed the impulse to make a snide remark about her father and instead put on a strained smile. “Thank you, sgt Styles, but I’m afraid I am all you will get today.” She made a mental note to find extra tasks for Lila before turning her mind back to the current task.
She could see some of the soldiers towards the back shift weather from nervousness or boredom vae wasn’t certain. “I’ll make this briefing quick.” She began hoping the rehearsed nature of the briefing wasn’t obvious. “We’ll be shipping out in three weeks for the republic garrison on Thila which is where we be officially receiving our first mission.” The Theelin woman paused for a minute before reaching behind her to pick up the datapad she had brought with her and checked it for a moment. “We have until then to get ready while we still have the relatively nice facilities of Taris at our disposal.” She glanced up from the pad to see if they were still listening before continuing.
”To that end I have managed to get most of you relived of your previous task on base, check your duty schedules first, but you all should have the rest of the day free to do as you wish though I would suggest you get to know your platoon mates.” Vae folded her arms across her chest hugging the datapad to herself. “You will all be required to meet at the equipment storage at seven hundred tomorrow morning we well be going through a full battery of drills break for the mess and then we will be joining the 122nd for a live combat simulation.” She finally let her shoulders sag slightly as she closed onto the end. “We will be doing squad field exercises for the rest of the week.” She looked across the group assembled. “Any questions?” She asked the assembled bunch.

Surprisingly enough, Korben shared Lila's sentiment on the Lieutenant's age and experience. This unit was one that may have been newly formed, but was comprised of men and women that have proved themselves to be well above the rank and file. Your below average soldier here would be an exemplary warrior in any other unit. So it escaped him why Lieutenant Savic would have orders to come here straight out of OCS.
But none of that mattered.
She had orders to stand up the new unit along with him. This meant that he would shape her into the proper commander and extend to her the advice from a man who had seen and done far more than her. The platoon's job was to follow her orders, not gripe and moan about her age and experience. That job was far above even his pay grade.
Sarsyn's heavy brow furrowed at Sgt. Styles as Lieutenant Savic finished her briefing. Korben rarely yelled, screamed, hooted, or hollered. His look and extreme voice was generally enough to get the message across. The look he shot Styles could have melted ultrachrome and made a Jedi's laser sword fizzle out into nothing. Korben stepped off into the crowd towards Sgt Styles with his eyes locked on hers. The crowd of soldiers parted like the waves of an ocean off of the bow of a warship until he finally reached the blue haired Zeltron. Korben was a very short man, and as such found himself looking up at the amazonian woman before him.
"Get on my level, Sergeant," he said her rank in a demeaning tone of voice. He made the hand gesture for her to crook her knees so that her height shortened until they were looking eye to eye. "I guess we know why they switched you out of your unit, huh? I'd say that this kind of thing happens a lot." Truth be told rank didn't particularly matter in special forces units more often than not. Respect for an officer from enlisted personnel was still required, though.
"Where's the disconnect," his voice began to increase in tone and volume. He didn't yell often, but he was certainly getting to this point. "Where is the fraking disconnect? He gave her all of a heartbeat to answer. It was surprising how loud his voice could get despite the fact that he looked as if he was putting no effort towards it. "Open your Fraking mouth. Do you have any idea-," he cut himself off and pinched the bridge of his nose. It looked as if he calmed himself down, but in reality he was calm the whole time.
His voice returned to normal levels, "Sergeant Styles, you're gonna stay after the brief is done." Korben returned to Lieutenant Savic's side, glaring at Styles and waiting for any questions to be spoken.
