Fromikeable. He's proven to be a really steady and consistent guy, giving a good job and swiftly. He's helpful, fun, and pleasant. The poster-child for SWU?

Most Improved Writer: Drjakesnake. I remember when he came in, and just felt so very new. And then he grew into a really fun RPer with some great ideas.

Coolest Character:Dutch Sampson. He's a civvie, who runs an insurgency. Now that's cool, and I subscribe to the idea that you can be cool without being an action hero cop on the edge every single moment.
Wisest Character:
Mon'vuuem. From what I've seen of her, she strikes me as very wise and patient, and definitely is wise.
Scariest Character: Di'Shan Pano. He's scary. Seriously.
Funniest Character: Horst Stellar. His lead tongue is pretty comedic, though far from slapstick.

Most Unique Character: Danica Liviana. The original SWU rich rhymes-with-witch. She's uncuddly and rude as can be, but there's never anything quite like her.

Hot mama: Kailani Quix. Admittedly she's not the most active, but she's definitely quite hot.

Best Hero/Heroine-- male and female: Hero- Ethan Moreill (His private war against the Sith is very heroic) Heroine- Amaris Sataj (Yes, I hear you exclaim that she's more of an anti-hero, but in my experience she's like a female Han Solo, so I say heroine!)

Sparrow- Our dear overlord of snark. Always quick with the wit, always has some remark ready to go for any situation. I've had many a laugh from the cap'n and his antics.

Member of the Year: Dutch- Can I say return of the king? Is that hyping our Dutchie-poo up too much? Probably. But he's made an impact since his return from his multi-year hiatus, and we can all say with certainty that SWU's much improved thanks to his return. He's earned it.

Best Tech:

Coolest Custom Species: Humani- Not a full-on different species, but a very interesting, different creation. Rather than a new race all her own, Meira differentiated them in culture. And, in addition to making a new people that breathes a bit of fresh air into the section, avoided many of the same frustrating tropes that tend arise with submissions in the section.

Graarl- Always loved this race. Flying dino-gryphon things. What's not to love? And the race that gave rise to the Grandmaster, who's currently one of the more unique characters on SWU


Most Improved Writer: Pol- I've watched many threads and written with many people over the course of the year. Through it all, Pol has been one of the more steady people I keep up with or write with. She already wrote well when she arrived, but she's improved over the course of the year and really found her stride, especially with Danica. Wonderful writer, and even more so considering that English isn't her primary language.

Fromikeable- Somehow I've never written with him, though I suppose that's a casualty of my most active characters for the past year being not so easily compatable with his, but he's another one I've watched over the year. Was a solid writer to begin with, but he's really grown and come into his own. Kudos to him.

Best Overall Writer: Kellaishleya- There are few people I enjoy following the posts of more than our dear Kella. And with her starting college, the increased sparsity has made them even more precious. How fortunate for us all then that the quality of her writing remains phenominal, even if the rate has understandably decreased.

Shine Albartos- Sometimes you almost have to feel bad for the guy. Shine tries time and time again to find love, and time and time again winds up in the friendzone. But he's good natured about it and soldiers on doggedly. Not to mention that he has his own moments of real, genuine funniness.

Ruck- He spawns everywhere. Everywhere. Hide ya kids. Hide ya wife. Ruck is a stud. And a roach. There's really not more I can say than that.

Irrisorrie- Remains so every year. Kellaishleya has a knack for making unique characters. This one is a Mythic girl that's insane, driven to that point by abuses in her childhood. She's broken, mentally, but not maleveloent. And the constant fog and familiars made of fog that her mind projects all around her is a unique touch I've yet to see surpassed.

Kailani Quix- Beatiful, sassy, and she'll kick your ass. Kai is tremendous fun both to watch and to write with, and has become a favorite character of mine. Excellent job with her by Moonfire.

Stellar Mythics- Am I biased? Absolutely. However, I've been a part of almost every custom faction that's rolled through here, some of which are dead now, and none's held quite the special place in my heart that the Mythics do, though my second nomination for this comes very, very close. The Mythics, though it's a group that tends to move seasonally as most of the members tend to get busy and free at the same times of year, are a wonderful cast of characters that are all tremendously unique and unlike any others on the site, with their own little self-contained overarching plot that offers a bit of a break from the main conflict between Jedi and Sith. And that's not to mention personal threads. But it's a wonderful group of wonderful characters created and written by wonderful writers, and has given rise to some of the best threads I've participated in in my nearly five years here. And that's not even mentioning the incredible amount of work that's been put into giving them an environment whose depth is, among custom elements, only even approached by....

The DLA- What is there to say about the DLA that hasn't already been said? It's a group of everyday people fighting a fight that seems to have impossible odds against a juggernaut of a foe they, on paper, have no hope of winning against. They have the unique trait of being a faction that is made up mostly of civilian characters; made up of farmers and mechanics and normal people that have been drawn into extraordinary circumstances by forces beyond their control. Not unlike the Mythics, a ton of work has gone into making not only the faction, but the world that they exist in, making it a relatable, living, breathing thing.

Zarene Yin- So, a very common trope among Sith characters in particular is the meta commentary in posts about how they do things sooooo differently than the rest of the Sith. Of course, this often violates the rule of 'show, don't tell,' but beyond that for 98% of the time that trope is invoked, the character in question isn't so different than the writer would like to think. Interestingly, it's the ones where the writer doesn't try to beat you over the head with how different their character is that truly stand out. Zarene is unique among the Sith. Lawful Evil to a T, and a character with a few interesting different sides to her, from bastard birth as the child of a Sith Lord, to her short temper with things concerning her cyborness, to her cat, Sir Scruffy. Beyond that, her personality is steady, solid, and consistent. She doesn't try to shine above all the others, she just does what she does, and typically is quite good at it. She's a very well-written Sith, and props to sparrow for the job he does with her.

Jack Makura- Another instance of a character that actually is quite different from many of the other Sith, in ways that the writer--Cain, in this case--shows through their actions rather than beating us over the head with meta commentary about how different they are, much like Zarene. Jack is the very definition of a Squishy Wizard/Glass Canon, and Cain has no qualms about running with it IC. It's a break from most of the other Sith, who tend to be quite stout of body. Jack makes up for it with his ability in the Force and his wild ambition, which should lead to fun things in the future. But for the past and the present, Cain has done an excellent job with this character.

Character of the Year: Danica- I believe that every member here with multiple characers has their one signature character. We all generally love our creations, but everyone has that one that they bond with above all the others. For Pol, this is Danica. She's a wonderful character to interact with, and I've had the immense pleasure of sharing a great deal of interaction with her, with a great deal more to come in the future. Beyond my own interactions, Ms. Livinica has been in high demand, and little wonder why. A very well deserved spot for her.

Roq vs Arkandos- The Practice Duel section has been surprisingly quiet the past year--quite the change from its usual bustling self. But even so, this duel between two wonderful writers was an absolute blast to follow, and a nail-biter up until the very end. It would be stiff competition to best even with the Duel section at a more usual rate of activity. It was a phenomenal read.

Member of the Year: It took me a lot of thinking on this one, but I had to think of someone that is consistent, funny, charming, and a talented writer all at once. What does that equal? Rugs. It equals Rugs. I still remember when some random dude named 'Sir Rugdumph' entered the SWU scene... and then I heralded his glory to the SWU, and look at him now. Son, am proud. Also, waffles. :3

Most Improved Writer: Can't vote here cause I've only been back a few months, hard to judge on such a small amount of time.

Best Overall Writer: Squee, Meira, Reisier. When I think of people's posts that I ALWAYS look forward to, I think of these three the most. And notably Reisier's ability to make bios absolutely stunning sold me the first time I read Amaris.

Thread of the Year: Ghosts N Stuff CLICK ME PLOX

This thread, I think slipped under a lot of people's radar, but once you look in, and see what could be argued some of the most powerful and wise Force wielders in the entire galaxy come together like this... you'll understand. After being gone, tortured and nearly killed, former Grandmaster Jace Beleren stumbles to the temple. Nearly the entire area flocks to him, and a select few Masters rush to his aid. A great read that really shows how this group play off one another. Not to mention anything that has Kella in it is gold, so yeah. :3

Dutch-SWU was moving a bit slowly and this guy came back and really kicked things into gear. He's been doing mod duties all over the place and posting just as much. If anyone deserves some recognition, it's gotta be him.

Humani-I suppose they aren't really a species but whatever they are in that category. There is just so much depth to them which can be credited to both their initial creator(Meira) and those who have added on. I've seen a number of them pop up lately and it's definitely gonna make for some dynamic writing. Just a solid bunch overall.

Squee-The girl has a talent for both creating unique characters and writing them in a magnificent manner; it's a winning combo.
Kella-I've been in a few threads with her myself, as well as followed many of her others and her writing is fantastic. When you read her posts, you can really tell she loves her characters and enjoys writing them to a great extent.
Baba Yaga-Pol's writing is just terrific and I quite enjoy reading her posts. What more needs to be said?

Coolest Character:
Six- She's Imperial Intelligence which automatically makes her cool. Add this to the rest of her character and you got one coooool customer.
Danica- This little Hellion is cool by virtue of her class-status. She's good looking, rich, and fiesty and what's more, she knows it. Yeah, that's cool.
Dutch Sampson-I probably can't say it any better than lmr did so I wont try. He's real, gritty, and entertaining. Plus his playby is Dean who is like the coolest d00d in the world.

Wisest Character:
Roq-Look, you don't become Grandmaster by being stupid(unless yer Jace), this Graarl is full of wisdom and has shown it on multiple occasions.
Zarene-She's young but I always feel like the observations she makes and the things she said should not be ignored. Her logical thought process provides wisdom in a different way.

Scariest Character:
Renata-Yeah, she scares the crap outta me. Their is a subtle sadism to this woman that can be quite unnerving. She likes to break people down as has the mind to do it.

Funniest Character:
Nieraan-I suppose he isn't funny in the traditional sense but there is a dry humor to everything he says or does. His saltiness amuses me greatly.

Mathathatahthtahtathy(Math)-Twysper isn't around all that much but whatever. This little squib is just an excellent example of a character that is really out there but not in an overbearing sort of way. Math is an amusing little ferret...thingy.
Danica- In honesty, it can be quite difficult to get a civilian(that's not in the DLA) into plots. Danica's personality pretty much throws this idea out of the window and she just does what she wants. She's hanging out with Jedi, Sith, and everyone in between.

DLA-The concept behind this faction is awesome and it is played out so well. It really adds a new dimension to SWU that is totally different from the other factions. I'm honestly not sure why I haven't made a DLA character myself D8
Stellar Mythics-They started as a simple joke on Skype and turned into something else. The concept behind them is both epic and completely silly at the same time. Yet the faction attracted great writers and really unique characters and it turned into something else. The isolated nature of the plot made it a novelty.

Zarene-I really do think Zarene is an absolutely spectacular character and one who deserves more recognition. She stands apart from the rest of the Sith without even trying. There is a feeling of self-control about Zarene that is difficult to break but the woman still has her weak points and it all melds together brilliantly with Sparrow's writing. I've had the pleasure of RPing with Zarene from assassinating the Corellian royal family to finally getting our Sith names. Never once in those threads have I found Zarene lacking.

Danica-Look I'm lazy and Rugs said it better than I could anyways so to reiterate, "I believe that every member here with multiple characers has their one signature character. We all generally love our creations, but everyone has that one that they bond with above all the others. For Pol, this is Danica. She's a wonderful character to interact with, and I've had the immense pleasure of sharing a great deal of interaction with her, with a great deal more to come in the future. Beyond my own interactions, Ms. Livinica has been in high demand, and little wonder why. A very well deserved spot for her."

Rook/Sali-I have been following these two since they began 'courting' each other. The good times, bad times, and most importantly, the cute times :3 A long standing relationship between two great characters/writers. I could read their threads all day errrry day.

While choosing the nominees I thought about how much change they brought to the board at large, and here is what I came up with:

Dutch – it's really not a surprise, he added life to the board, helped cleaning sections and started really active rping.

Lmr – he is active, always has been and helped bringing new people into the fold with engaging them in his plots.

Rugs – maybe not overly active when it comes to rp, he often rps with new people, helping them with starting on SWU.

Frommikeable – I think Frommy grew as a writer over the year, his style became much richer and very consistent.

Dutch – What can I say here, Dutch is simply great. He writes in empathetic and evocative manner. Emotions make his character so alive and complex, something rare and precious in any writer.

Rugs – Rugzy! I adored his writing from the start. It's very consistent and reactions of his characters very complex and they always has a purpose. Thoughtful and top notch style, clearly of someone who knows what he is doing with the words.

Jace – my newest favorite, whenever I read his posts I am tempted to start over and over. His style is neat and very clear, but the best part is how he responds to very subtle cues in the post making the story flow without a hitch. Gives plenty of room to react.

Moonfire - her style is light and funny, I have always a lot of fun reading her things and definitely want to see more.

I had real problem here because I can point at least 3 more that deserve this nomination so focused on whose style I know best as well as skill. So will add 4th >>

Renata - somehow she can be a pretty badass baddie and feminine while at it. I like it very much,

Nieraan Onin - the charrie I rpied with for a long time now and his posts always manage to surprise me. Very complex villain that on occasion showed ability to care and attach. It takes a great writer and concept to pull something like that off in a believable manner.

Jessoin Zarander - I can't say I know this character as good as Nieraan but in rp's I had pleasure of reading he shows plenty of layers. I have yet to see a charrie that can be so helpless and cruel at the same time. I never know what he will do next, whether shows the side of a hopeless child that seeks attention and love or that of a cruel monster. That is one hell of writing.
