The young woman seemed to be enjoying the beer more than he had expected her too. He happily took the occasional draught from it, but he was used to having this piss water on board. Although he reminded himself that due to her profession, she probably led a similar lifestyle to him. By which he meant minimalistic and crappy. Smugglers and Bounty Hunters only got money when they had jobs, and they only had jobs when they were available. Sure, the criminal underbelly of the galaxy was overly swelled, but all that meant was there was more competition. Avanni had had to undercut at least two other smugglers to get his last contract, so he was glad of the extra credits he managed to squeeze out of the guy to offset his costs. Especially since he now apparently needed to invest in a new security system to keep nosey bounty hunters out.
”I’m a spacer, we tend to come into contact with Pirates a lot. And I meant more like a famous one. Your lot only tend to go after the big names, right?” He knew that wasn’t strictly true. Only the big name bounty hunters went after the big name targets, and it was those bounty hunters that the stories were written about. If you were a relatively unknown hunter, then either you were awful at it or you were just that good. Judging by the way she had expertly got onto his ship and incorporated herself into his company, he’d imagine this Shanti girl to be quite good at what she did.
”A Wookiee? Yeah they are not the kind of thing you can hide in a durasteel container.” Despite himself he let out a small chuckle, taking a bigger swig of his beer. He had come to the realisation that even if she was after him, he could take her. He was bigger and stronger, and it wasn’t like he was just some fat slop of a spacer. He had trained all his life, he could take care of himself against a little girl.
”Yeah we are still a few out. Nice to see you making yourself at home, though.” He frowned at her, his hard gaze on the cheeky little woman for a few moments as he stretched his legs under the table. At some point he had slipped off his boots, and he was curling the toes on his bare feet. He did enjoy to let them breathe at times. ”There’s a spare room, but there’s no bed in it at the minute. Refurbishing.” This was actually true, and not just a ploy to trick her into sleeping in his bed. He had recently decided to add a few more secret hidey-holes to his ship, and was tearing apart rooms to install false panels. He’d already done most of the ship now, just that spare room and the bathroom remaining.
”So if you want to sleep there, you can do it on the floor. Oh, and by the way, I am charging you for all of this. Passage is free, because I’m nice like that. But food, beer, accommodations. That all has a price girlie.”
He was still suspicious of her, but he was glad that she had suggested a nap. Not that he was tired, he wasn’t going to go to sleep with a potentially lethal bounty hunter on board. No, it was because the spare room locked from the outside. If need be, he would lock her in there until they arrived on Nar Shaddaa, then get rid of her if she proved to be too much trouble. If she was just a random little stowaway, then maybe he’d make a handful of credits out of it.

Shanti made a face, and not from the beer. No bed? No nap for her then. At least not in the room. She thought quickly, than looked around the galley; at the seat she was sitting on. That would do.
"Well that sucks. Suppose I'll just sleep here then." She leaned back in her chair as far as it would go, and put her legs up on the table. She folded her arms across her chest and did her best to settle in. Not the most comfortable position, but she'd been in worse. But then he said he'd charge her and she almost fell over from laughing so hard.
"A price? Ha!" She guffawed. "Whitey, if you think that I had any credits on me whatsoever, would I be stowing away on your ship? I'm broke, Paleface." She shrugged her shoulders, and reasserted her semi-reclined position. "You can have my blaster if you want it, but last I checked it's worth approximately zilch. And there's nothing else I have that I'm willing to part with. Not unless you're willing to part with your balls in exchange." She glared daggers at her host. "And I told you what you wanted to know about your ship. You want me to tell you more about how badly your security system sucks? You're gonna have to give me access to the ship's computers. If you won't let me, than I don't know what else to tell you. I mean, I guess I do have some credits in a bank, but I'll need to access the holonet for that."
That last bit was a lie. Shanti was stone-broke at the moment, and she never kept money in banks. She just wanted access to the holonet so that she could check and see if there were any bounties on this Echani, who was really starting to be a pain in her backside. She wasn't entirely convinced by his explanation about pirates either. He asked like he was asking about friends; not enemies. People who made friends with pirates were usually pirates themselves. She just needed to find out at what price.
It was the only option she had, and the only option he had as well, if he thought he was going to get money out of her. Because if he wasn't going to let her on the holonet, then the second this ship touched down, she'd be gone. And Shanti had lived on Nar Shaddaa all her life. No one would find her unless she wanted to be found.

Avanni Silas had not expected the woman to just set up camp right here at his dinner table. If anything he thought she would just curl up in a ball in the spare room. If she went down that option he was going to offer her some soft furnishings from his own bed, although he didn’t have a lot himself. And what he did have was hardly what one would call clean. He was not happy with what she had ended up doing, this was his ship – not her damn summer house.
”Get your gorram feet off of my table Red. I have to eat off of there.” He took a swipe in the direction of her feet, although he wasn’t actually trying to harm her, but felt the aggressive motion would be enough for her to respond to his demand.
He leaned back in his own uncomfortable chair sulking somewhat as she spoke at length about her own financial status. She was right really, most freeloaders took the risk of stowing away on a potentially dangerous criminal’s ship because they couldn’t afford not to. The promise of credits in a bank seemed interesting, and he was surprised at how open about it she was. It didn’t really matter anyway, because whilst she might trust banks, he didn’t. At least not ones you could access digitally over the Holonet from any location in the galaxy. He may not be that good when it came to security features on his ship, but he wasn’t stupid. His own little nest egg was hidden away back on Eschan with someone he trusted more than anything else. Mummy Silas.
”Calm down kid. Fine, you ain’t really cost me anything so you get this as a freebie, because I’m in a good mood. But you start watching yourself or I will space you.” Avanni’s voice was stern and aggressive, and he himself was actually starting to believe his threat. It was getting to the point where it was not completely empty no more. ”As for parting with my balls, I think I will keep them for now. I admit that I wouldn’t have said no to a bit of a run around when I first found you here, but now I’m rather shag a Mynock!”
That wasn’t really true, he would probably still let her calibrate his weapon systems, but he was angry and she was pissing him off to no end. He wasn’t sure if she was worth all the effort really. He wasn’t going to get anything out of this little misadventure, be it credits or otherwise, and she still remained a potential threat to his life. But if she wasn’t after his head, then maybe she could come in handy after all. A bushy silver eyebrow quirked on his face as a rare good idea buzzed into his subconscious.
”Whose your contact on Nar Shaddaa?”
Avanni would never be arrogant enough to know who all the players were on the smugglers moon, but he knew a few of them, and he knew all the big players. Most of them didn’t know him – but he knew enough to check her out better. If he was not in fact her target, then maybe he could put her to good use. He did have quite a few enemies, after all.

Shanti didn't particularly like being swiped at. She kicked at his hand in annoyance, and then moved her feet to edge of the table; still leaned back, and the tips of her boots were pointing upwards, but technically not 'on'.
"I'm perfectly calm and I ain't no kid. Younger than you, you old haint, but not a kid." She was inordinately pleased with herself for managing to piss him off so badly. He still threatened to space her, but even with the added aggression, he'd repeated the line so often it ceased to hold any meaning for her whatsoever. She was fairly confident that she would make it to Nar Shaddaa alive at this point.
She was definitely relieved to hear she had dissuaded him from considering her for a bit of fun. A relief, and an annoyance, and one that she had every intention of tweaking him for. "Oh you're a real prize, aren't you? 'Oh, there's a pretty girl stowed aboard my ship; she must want to have sex with me.' 'Oh, wait, she has a brain and doesn't immediately fall into my bed out of gratitude and because I ogle her boobs? Totally worthless.' Frell you, Paleface."
Shanti was grumpy, she really just wanted to sleep her way to Nar Shaddaa. If she hadn't been discovered, that's what she would've done in the cargo hold. She appreciated the food, and the beer, but she was dirty and tired, and he wouldn't let her nap uncomfortably in peace. She shut her eyes tight, but it only made him start talking again.
Her first response was a shrug with her shoulders, her eyes still closed. "Don't got one. At least not permanent. I find my bounties through the holonet. It's amazing what you can find when you know where to look. If I get it, then I contact the employer directly. If I don't, well, they didn't hire me specifically, so no one's the wiser. Why do you wanna know? Shipping freight not lucrative enough for you?"Shanti cursed herself for asking the question. Now she'd never get to sleep.

His hand retracted quickly as the fiery little piece of schtako reacted to his own actions. He was not out of line for forcing her feet off of his table, she was just being a pain in his arse. He had his qualms about hitting a woman that wasn’t actually attacking him, but the airlock was becoming a more and more attractive option.
”I’m not that old you little haigi, but you are a damn kid. I can’t believe someone like you is even a bounty hunter. No wonder you let your prey get away.”
He was getting really quite irritated by her now, and this was starting to outweigh his concern that she was hunting him. He did have his enemies, but if she was like this with everyone – he expected the young woman probably had more. Maybe he should think about dabbling into the bounty hunting business himself. Food for thought.
”Hey, who said I expected anything? Yeah, your attractive, yeah I wouldn’t have said no. Doesn’t mean I want to shag every little stowaway that ends up on my ship! I don’t need no crap from you skrag, so keep it buttoned ‘till we get to where we are going, or you’ll spend the rest of the trip locked up.”
She’d be locked up in his own quarters as well, it was the only room on the ship that locked from the outside. He actually had no idea why, but it was the closest thing he had to a brig. Even that probably wouldn’t be that effective, considering her apparent talent for hacking electronic locks. Maybe he’d just throw her in a galley cupboard and put a chair in front of it. Then sit on the chair. Strangely, such a low tech manner would probably be a lot more effective against this one.
He shot up from his seat and headed to the other side of the galley. Partly to get himself another piss tasting beer, and partly to calm down a little. The girl was really starting to get on his nerves. She started speaking again, and to be fair it was just in response to his own question. No need to lock her up for that. Although something she said gave him an idea, or rather reinforced a previous thought.
”As I said, my business is my business. But I am thinking about looking into your business. It dawns on me that a pain in the arse like you could cause problems all over. I’m sure someone would pay a fair amount to get their hands on you.”
For him, a fair amount would be something even considerably low. It wasn’t hard to imagine that a few more days with her would push him to want to pay someone to take her away anyway. In the end he probably wouldn’t sell her off to someone, bounty hunting seemed almost like the slave trade, and he didn’t like that. It didn’t mean it wasn’t a possibility, though. He leaned against a cupboard counter and opened his beer, watching the young woman with interest. Physically he could quite easily overpower her, although it was possible she was trained in several combat forms, and he never wanted to underestimate an opponent. As she had pointed out though, she was young and he was old. He had years of experience behind him, at her age he doubted if she even knew enough to take out a drunken Jawa. Not that he was arrogant or anything.

Him? Trying to take out a bounty on her? Shanti couldn't help but burst out laughing. She really had gotten under his skin. "You're just swell, you know that? You know everything there is to know about me, and I know nothing about you. So very unfair. Problem for you is, you know more about me than is actually on the holonet." She clicked her tongue in mock sadness. "I'm a very good slicer. You could try to find somebody who would actually pay money for me, but not because I have a bounty on my head. Trust me, I've checked." In part that was because she was a very good slicer. But mostly it was because she was not a very good bounty hunter. The Echani was right about that at least. She was young, and she had worked for Hutts in the past, and was decent at getting information. But when it came to actually getting people, killing or capturing them, she lacked the necessary equipment and skills. She ignored the insult though, trying to play it off as it being beneath her, rather than it being an entirely accurate assessment.
"And on that note, I'd be happy to stay silent for the rest of the trip. I'm sure you've got... things to do, and I haven't slept in three days." Or maybe it was only a day and a half. Hard to keep track of time when she was traveling so much, and she couldn't remember what she had told him earlier, if anything.
She gave a negligent wave of her hand and sunk down into the chair she was occupying, trying to ignore his eyes on her. She folde her arms across her chest and shut her eyes tight, forcing herself to slow her breath into something resembling sleep pattern. "Night." She mumbled. "Don't forget to wake me when we hit planet side." This trip had been awful. Hopefully she could sleep away the rest of it, and just get back to her little room on Nar Shaddaa. If she was really lucky, she could probably get away with nicking some of his better alcohol along with it. That thought brought a small smile to her lips.

She laughed at him. He did not like that. Once again he felt like he had lost complete control of the situation. He was actually looking forward to getting her off his ship now, and usually he didn’t want for an attractive female to leave his company. He could get a little needy at times. This Shanti was different though, she got right under his skin so bad it was ridiculous, and he could not wait to be shot of her. If he was a more violent person, he would likely have just done the deed himself, and be done with it. Dumping a body on Nar Shaddaa was hardly a difficult task, no one really cared and it was far too dangerous to involve yourself with someone else’s business. Avanni felt he was skilled enough to handle himself in most situations, but there were many on the smugglers moon that he would loath to antagonize. Despite appearances, he did have some survival instincts, and he loved himself far too much to go and get himself killed any time soon.
”If your that good maybe you should stick to slicing instead of bounty hunting? Certainly less likely to get yourself killed kid.” He went back to the passive aggressiveness of belittling her due to her age. It was childish but he didn’t really think about it, she was just getting on his nerves and he wanted rid. He felt that she was likely to get killed no matter what her profession if she spent more than a half hour with anyone remotely dangerous. Fortunately for her, Avanni was not even remotely dangerous – his bark was far worse than his bite, and his bark wasn’t even that bad at any rate. ”You really think you can keep quiet? That’s a laugh.”
He snorted derisively at her, not believing that she could do it. Although in truth he had spoke as much if not more to her during this little adventure, and often she spoke in response to him. But this was not something the Echani really noticed, he often talked a lot when he was uncomfortable and didn’t really pay much attention to the responses. As much as the vindictive streak within him wanted to prevent her from sleeping, he decided that it was worth it just to get a bit of peace and quiet for a change, so he rose from the table without a word and stormed out of the galley.
He headed back to the cockpit and set up camp there for the rest of the trip, although he would occasionally check the ships internal security cameras to keep an eye on her. The ship wasn’t the best equipped in that department, but the cameras came as standard. And while he was utterly fed up of her, he didn’t trust her to be alone on his ship. It wasn’t as good as watching her at all times, but every now and again he’d have a quick glance, although sometimes he’d forget. He didn’t really have any valuable cargo, except a few nest eggs in his quarters, but it was beside the point. The little stant would not be lifting any of his stuff, even if it was worthless crap.
After a while of busying himself in the cockpit, it was time to get ready to dock with the smugglers moon. He supposed he best go and wake the little parasite up. He headed down to the galley and found her apparently fast asleep where he had left her. She’d ask to be woken up, and as much as he didnt’ want to be her alarm clock, he was happy to oblige. A fun thought ran through his mind as he opted against lightly tapping her on the shoulder, and instead walked across to the food and drink stations, filling up a small glass of the dirty, likely stale water from the on board tanks. He went back to the girl and proceeded to empty the contents of the glass over her face.
”Wakey wakey princess.”

Shanti had been having an unpleasant dream. There was a low drone that got into her spine and made her uncomfortable. There were shapes that seemed to be always hovering just out of the corner of her eye. It was annoying, eerie, and very disconcerting. Shanti slept soundly, but not pleasantly. And in a matter of moments, it was all broken. The shadows at the edge of her vision suddenly came flying towards her, and more than that, something cold and wet splashed in her face.
Shanti woke up sputtering and flailing. One of her legs kicked up and outwards toward the figure holding a cup of water. This had the unfortunate effect of tipping herself over backwards in the chair, until she was a heap on the floor. She coughed and hacked, and hurridly tried to shove her damp hair out of her face. Her efforts were unsuccessful. Wet and curly, it stuck to her face and crept towards her mouth, which only made her cough futher. After what felt like an eternity, she finally managed to untangle herself from the chair. She rose and came face to face with the Paleface who decided to dump water on her face to wake her up.
The rational part of her brain knew that it was her fault; she had been a brat, and she probably deserved her. But that part was was miniscule. The rest of her was mad; her normally fair skin went red with fury. She coughed once more and glared glittering green daggers at the Echani. ”You... You.... SLIMY NERFHERDER!” Shanti hollered at him, and then with all the fury that a scrawny 5'3” human could muster, she swung her foot towards his crotch. Then, still angry, she shoved passed him, stomping her feet like an angry child. She stumbled a little as the ship hit the dock, but she stayed upright, determined to get off this ship as fast as possible to disappear back into the crowd. She didn't wait for the Echani at all; as soon as the ship came to a complete stop she hit the button to open the door, abusing the poor console far more than it deserved. The crew working the docks startled at the sight of the dripping redheaded gorgon, and Shanti took their surprise as an opportunity to get as far away as quickly as possible.
This had to be her worst trip ever. Not even the time she stowed away with a cargo of banthas was as bad as this. At least that time she was successful in getting her bounty. Never again. She promised herself. Never again will I let myself get caught like that. She'd rather sleep on a bed of vibroblades than to actually have a conversation with her captain. And never would she ever go back to Corellia. That place, and the people from there, gave her nothing but a massive headache and a serious lack of credits.
