The Horror on Taris

Prologue

The Galactic Republic

For weeks now Republic forces on Taris have received reports from scouts of Imperial activity. Lone Sith stalk the ruins, going about their shadowy orders and seemingly unaligned mercenaries scour the sewers endlessly. Sensing the preemptive moves of an invasion, Republic brass has upped naval and troop support to the planet. Taris holds a key sector along the Hydian Way, a bridge into the Mid Rim of the galaxy. The Republic must protect it at all costs.

As predicted the Sith Empire has attacked Taris, the arrival of an overwhelming fleet unsurprising yet still terrifying. They have broken the Republic blockade above world, and for hours transports and troop ships have cascaded into the miles-wide crater where Force Bennick hugs the edge. The SIS predict the Sith to invade at dawn. Deciding to take a preemptive approach, Colonel Ock Nar has gathered a platoon under the command of Jedi High General Levin Caelum to meet the Empire before they prepare their assault.

The Sith Empire

Months of planning have lead to this point. A raid of the Czerka Corporation on Neimoidia and a faux slave revolt on Jaemus heralding the Empire’s assault on Taris. Lead by Darth Eurachis and Darth Novus, their intentions are well defined by the size of the fleet. Little known to the Republic, the Darths have brought with them a trump card. Experimental weaponry designed to harness the native rakghouls and turn them unto the Empire’s enemies.

As Darth Eurachis controls the battle from aboard his flagship, Darth Novus takes to the field with a large force of Imperial soldiers, war droids, Sith and the experimental 5KR3-MR devices. It is imperative the Empire take Fort Bennick, by any means necessary. Yet even with their overwhelming advantage, within the Force beats a deeper and more sinister darkness. Not something to be controlled or manipulated. Something ancient. Something hungry.

The Horror on Taris is the first major story plot to happen on SWU for some time. Like the Sacking of Gargon, it will be split into a trio of threads with a single being the story thread. The event will take place over the span of a single day with a thread taking place at dawn, high noon and dusk. You can have multiple characters in this story event, but only one per thread. This will allow people to explore the different angles and settings of the battle. Each thread will begin with a staff post to set the mood and setting, with the following posts taking control of it. What makes this event important and unique is that for the first time in SWU history, the Empire and Republic have to work together in order to survive the day. There will also be a thread for those who just want a traditional battle royal!

The Pale Tide: Optional thread, cooperation focused, dusk (Click for discussion.)

Note: The Horror on Taris will be pushed to completion by the Staff. This will be done to keep the story line moving at a good pace. And the Sun Rises and The Pale Tide will move at their own paces, with no pushing to keep it going from the Staff. Feel free to claim your spot before the sign ups, but only if you’re 100% certain you wish to take part. This event could be a major turning or plot point for your characters, so keep that in mind.
