“Damn it,” Chase muttered inaudibly, lighting the cigarra between her teeth as she marched onwards; the hallway before her stretching on forever. And with only the dull drone of the engines and intermittent workstation blips as company, it went without saying, the ship was immense -- even for a Capital. Yet, while Chase knew she should’ve felt exhilarated by her promotion and the chance to work on such a vessel, she was still irked by the sacrifice required for it.
Even before she’d finished the thought, the young officer was unwittingly touching the patch which now covered her eye, a solemn expression falling over her features. True, it wasn’t a major loss and she’d made sure the smugglers had paid dearly for it but even so, she found no comfort. It just went against the ideal of perfection her parents had instilled in her and it was a flaw with which she’d have to work harder to overcome.
Chase was soon snapped out of her thoughts however as the swish of a door opening sounded before her, with the officer lifting her head just in time to see it close again as a soldier approached. She’d reached the bridge doors. Pausing, she took in one last deep breath of the cigarra, for courage, before exhaling and once again marching on, flicking the end of the cig’ at the private passing her -- leaving the soldier to curse as he stumbled backwards in an attempt to catch the burning object. Chase merely ignored him however as she made her way onto the bridge.
From there, it wasn’t hard finding her target, with the lone figure at the forefront of the bridge catching her eye almost instantly; especially his decorative uniform which oddly enough consisted of various shades of blue. Honestly, she found it peculiar that an officer would branch off from the usual greys and blacks of the empire. Wasting no time however she stepped up behind him, stiffening her posture as she saluted and informed him of her presence, “Sir, Lieutenant Chase reporting.”

Jade had a number of things on his mind, least of all being a new member of his crew. No...in order his concerns were thus: His missing sister, the attack on Mygeeto, a rather frustrating female captain currently searching for a certain dark jedi (who was also searching for his sister it seemed), a rather large and very angry pirate currently in the med bay, the repairs on the Pendragon, Vos, and lastly the new member. The rear-admiral had already gone through the motions of checking the status of the members on the bridge, and he had already checked up on Sunomi and her team, so now, he simply stood quietly gazing out at the stars and thinking over every OTHER problem he had to deal with.
Upon hearing the footsteps drawing nearer from behind him, Jade collected his thoughts, filed through his vast amount of mental data, found the file on the new member and as she stated her name, he turned about a sly smirk on his face. Glasses glinting in the lights slightly, crimson eyes studied her face for a moment before he waved a hand dismissively.
Thank you Lieutenant. At ease.
He stated, almost lazily. Despite his demeanor, however, Jade was thinking rather swiftly, running though all the information he had on the woman, taking in her stature and lastly absorbing any feelings he got from her through the force. There wasn't much as of yet...she seemed perturbed, but then again, it didn't take the force to feel THAT coming from her. She seemed rather...no pun intended...rather jaded.
Welcome aboard the Pendragon. I hope you've settled in already?
He asked, his voice polite as ever, though there was an aire of amusement about him for some reason.
Come with me, it's best we speak in my ready room.
Jade added after allowing her to reply. Moving around her, he headed to one side of the bridge and through a door. The room there was what an office was expected to be, only a few shelves of books, one plant, and one picture adorning the otherwise spartan room.

Tempted to respond with a hearty, “Argghhh, aye aye Capn’” in honour of her new eye-piece, Chase instead offered a respectful nod of her head in reply -- the hint of a forced smile playing across her lips as she eased her posture. It was more an attempt to mirror his politeness than anything but Chase had never been that good at playing spy; now poker, on the other hand….
Inane thoughts aside, she had to admit, Jade was an unexpected sight. Here she was preparing herself for some crusty old Navy dog, with a fat white beard slapped on to complete the cliché, while what she actually found was a rather handsome and, dare she say, soft looking man, with an intelligent air in lieu of a commanding one.
Something about his ultra-composed nature left her disconcerted however. At least when someone was barking orders at her she could pretty much tell how to react but she just felt awkward in such a polite atmosphere.
It was awkward enough that she practically yelled her next response with a brief, “Sir, yes sir,” as if to compensate for the lack of shouting, only to feel very foolish soon after. Thankfully Chase’s complexion wasn’t exactly suitable for a good blush but still, she could feel the heat rise in her cheeks.
It was for this reason she responded with yet another slight nod at Jade’s order, ignoring the stares she imagined she was probably getting from the outburst. She was quick to fall in step once he’d passed, trying to relax and prepare for whatever her new commander might have to say. She found this even easier to accomplish as she was greeted with a plain office instead of the refined mess she expected to find for a minute back there.

He barely noted the various feelings he received from her during the short walk to the ready room, and her very ridged reply caused him to smile a bit, but he said nothing. He noticed how the others were stopping to gaze at the woman's odd outburst, but with a look each of the officers swiftly returned to what they were doing.
As they entered the room, he sat down behind the desk, and motioned her to a seat across from him. Typing up a few commands on his computer, he ended by gazing at her as if sizing up her will and determination. In truth, he partly was. His gloved hands rested easily on the desk before him as crimson eyes held hers. He wasn't one trained in the force, but he knew enough to mold it to his will most times, however, he preferred to rely on his own deductions and reasoning. The patch caught his interest and he wondered just how she got it, but that was the least of his questions. Seeming appeased by whatever he saw in her remaining eye, Jade leaned back slightly.
Well then...Lieutenant Chase...would you mind if I asked you a few questions?
He said, raising one eyebrow slightly at her.

Following his gesture to sit Chase slid quietly into the seat; pretty much at a stony attention even then as her eyes locked onto Jade expectantly. Her only movement a brief uncomfortable shuffling as his unnervingly cool gaze fell on her. This man chilled her and oddly enough, it was due to his lack of tension. Not that she felt herself a good judge of character but the characters she’d been around up until then were rather… simple compared to what she faced now. This man on the other hand appeared calculating and while that may be an admirable trait for one of his rank, it made sent chills down the young officer’s spine not knowing what her superiors might be up to. After all, he could be the type to sacrifice her within the blink of an eye for little more than a meter of ground.
Hearing his question, Chase gave a slow shake of her head, opening the way for any questions the Read-Admiral might have. Frankly, she was unsure what she might be able to say that wasn’t already in her file.

Nodding, he relaxed fully, leaning back in his chair a little. She was tense and she'd have to get out of that habit if she was going to survive...survive in the sith, in the republic, in life.
Did you ask for a transfer here, or were you assigned? It doesn't say.
He asked simply, turning his eyes back to the screen of the console. Typing in a few more things, Jade tilted his head slightly at something he'd not noticed before and an odd expression came over his face. So, she had worked for the Republic previously had she? He'd have to ask her about that...he couldn't have someone breaking his cover so soon. If he was going to do this, he would do it right. Returning his eyes to her, Jade smiled slightly.
Please...relax Chase. I'm not going to eat you for lunch. Honestly...what HAS the crew been telling you?
He teased lightly.

Chase cleared her throat before answering, unaware her tension had been quite so visible until Jade had pointed it out. Forcing herself to calm however she distracted herself by focusing on the questions at hand and, with the tone of a soldier, dedicated and willing, she replied, “Nothing sir, just a not quite used to the… unpredictable atmosphere. This is my first time as a Navy Officer.” Of course, her answer came with more than one truth but she felt a little smug at the thought that Jade probably didn’t know that. “And I was transferred here,” she finished, pausing for a moment as she thought of anything else she might be able to add before glancing back over to Jade. Her steely gaze a little more collected now.
Spotting his smile, Chase once again forced an awkward one in return; coming off as a little more sinister than she knew.

Jade nodded slightly.
You were, however, part of the Republic army, am I correct?
Well, aside from what is in your file...I'd like to know something of you. Strengths and weaknesses that might effect your work, any medical needs...the like.
Jade paused and glanced at his computer as a message arrived. Dismissing it as work for later, he returned his unwavering gaze to the woman across from him. The look on her face was a troubling one, but he didn't feel any hostility but rather....an odd awkwardness.
Also...goals would be something I'm interested in. Oh, and feel free to ask me questions as well. This shouldn't be a one sided conversation.

Chase nodded solemnly at the mention of the Republic, hoping it wouldn’t hurt her chances on the ship. As for the rest of the questions… she allowed her ego to take hold a little, an unfortunate trait of working boot camp with both the Republic and the Sith.
“Strengths? I suppose I’ve always been quite versatile as far as soldiers are concerned… And I’m an okay pilot,” she replied matter-of-factly, her features taking on a pondering look as she considered the more distasteful side in her eyes.
“As for medical needs, certainly not. And the only weakness I can think of would be…,” she grinned as she answered semi-jokingly, “Politics.” She mostly found it amusing due to the fact that while politics made her sweat, she practically found herself at home amongst thunderous explosions along with the constant zing of a bullet just missed. So, in a way, she was being quite honest.
“My goals are also not so complex; I simply wish to climb the ranks or at least find a position I'm comfortable with,” she finished, only to jump for the opening allowed her by Jade to ask the question which’d been nagging her since the beginning.
“I do have one question… what is expected of me under your command?”

Listening intently, Jade allowed his eyes to close partly, his gaze focused on an invisible spot on his desk. Versatile, that was a good trait to have...he could trust in that a bit. Politics as a weakness? Jade gave a soft 'hmm' to that. He wasn't fond of the practice either, but it came in handy when dealing with others...this would need to be monitored. He didn't want her starting a brawl because she couldn't say something diplomatic at the proper time or place. Her goals weren't exactly to his liking either....but what did he expect? He was working with sith. It seemed all they cared about was gaining power of some kind or other. Sighing, the sandy blond looked up at her question.
Well...that's a rather hackneyed question Chase....
He replied with a sly smile.
Normally I would reply with 'to do whatever I need you to do'...but I'll play nice today...
In what respect do you mean? Duties, behavior, something else entirely?
Jade returned, blinking at her calmly.

“Maybe so, but I’d expect there’s a reason it’s common,” Chase replied; giving a light shrug while choosing not to elaborate further. Instead she focused on Jade’s last words.
“Well, yes, duties more than anything else. I’ve never really been a PA before and from what I’ve heard the tasks can vary greatly; all the way from serving you tea, to eliminating Jedi council members.” The dark haired officer allowed a crooked smile to form as she added, “Granted, while I’ll do my best to comply with whatever you ask, I’d appreciate it if you didn’t send me on suicide missions.”
She had to admit, considering how far from the norm her current superior appeared to be, Chase was semi-tempted to ask a query in regards to “behaviour”. She doubted she’d be getting any ciggie breaks any time soon however. One thing the Sith officer was aware of, was the difficulty in climbing the ranks in the empire. And so she didn’t doubt that Jade was a dangerous man when he wanted to be. It’s really too bad she didn’t know more about his past though -- unfortunately, the showing of personal files only worked one way.

Jade chuckled at her statement. So she WAS clever. He'd thought so by the look of her. Nodding, he sat forward a bit and pushed his glasses up his nose with a finger as he thought of his reply.
Well lieutenant, to be honest, I can't tell you. Your job might change from day to day depending on the needs of the ship, the crew and myself...in that order.
He replied simply. The ship as a whole always came first, why? Simple. They all lived because they were on this ship, if the ship needed something it had to be seen to first or the crew as a whole wouldn't survive. The Crew, in turn, ran the ship for the most part...keeping it in working order and seeing to their home's needs. What the crew needed, the ship needed. He could fend for himself to be honest, so Jade put himself lowest on the list.
I may have you doing anything from placing an order for rations to Muunilist, to bringing me reports from the various officers. It's difficult to tell.

Chase couldn’t help but quirk an eyebrow at Jade’s priorities, unsure if he was truly being honest. Still, it would make for a refreshing change if he was. She may even let her guard down a little if it was true… Unless, that’s what he expected her to do… Of course, that thought hardly ran through her mind with any hint of seriousness. Why would a rear-admiral want to off a lieutenant after all?
Otherwise, what he said after was sensible enough. It didn’t seem like he’d have any specific tasks for her in mind and in a way, she’d expected as much. She was a new addition to the crew, so it’d likely take time for her to get settled into a routine. With this in mind she gave another brief nod before simply stating, “Understood sir.”

Jade sighed at her and shook his head a bit. Sir this and sir that....it grew rather tiring at times, especially when in a place where one could relax a little.
Chase...really...enough with the sir, hm? We're not around the crew, and I'm not giving you orders.
He stated. Yes, Jade knew he wasn't like the other officers, neither republic or sith. To most officers, it just wasn't heard of to have a superior called by their first name, it was sir or their title all the time. However, Jade had always preferred his name to such epitaphs.
In situations like this I would prefer you call me Jade.

Offering a half-smile at the permission granted her to speak glibly, Chase answered quite simply, “Jade it is then.” It rolled off the tongue a little awkwardly but she figured it’d probably grow on her easily enough. She just had to remember to switch back to the good little soldier she was as long as company or crew was around; again, easy enough.
Without thinking -- and with previous notions of unease now at rest -- the officer proceeded to cross her one leg over her knee, folding her arms beneath her chest as she waited expectantly for… what exactly? Either way, it appeared to her that the Rear-Admiral wasn’t turning away her assignment under him, so at least she had a secure job for now. She hoped though, given time, she’d prove herself a valuable member of the crew.

Good. Now, have you familiarized yourself with the Pendragon at all yet?
He asked, making sure he'd covered all of his bases.
There will be quite a bit to do soon, and little time to do it in, so I need to feel certain that you know the ship well enough. You've joined us at a rather odd time. Currently we're on standby while searching for a dark jedi on Nar Shaddaa, before moving to Mygeeto where we will attempt to seize the planet. As you can imagine there will be quite a bit on our plate, and so it's necessary for the entire ship's survival that you become acclimated to the ship and crew as soon as possible.
He said simply, as if talking about this upcoming battle were no more serious than talking about the weather. Jade, of course, took it far more seriously than that, but his persona rarely allowed him to show it.

Chase nodded with acknowledgement, remembering the difficulty she had acquiring the specs. “Thankfully, a file on the ship was the least they offered me before reassignment,” she pointed out before adding with a sly smile, “Along with the nickname Necromancer for some odd reason…”
She was just a tad curious concerning the sort of events which would’ve lead to someone being dubbed as such, but didn’t press the topic. The last thing Chase wanted to do was stick her nose where it didn’t belong; especially if it was a rear-Admiral she was dealing with.
What she was interested in however was the mention of seizing a planet, to which she frowned before asking, “Mygeeto… Isn’t that neutral territory?” At best she’d expect they attack a Republic planet, possibly taking control of resources while simultaneously hurting the Republic. Then again, they weren’t at war with the Republic so she supposed it could just be that the sith were once again trying to take resources while not stepping on any major toes.

Jade chuckled at the name. It always had been one of his favorites.
Yes...that name also belongs to me doesn't it?
He said with another slight chuckle, his red eyes glittering deviously. It almost sounded like he didn't remember he'd had the title, but his eyes said he'd far from forgotten.
Yes, Mygeeto is neutral territory, but you see, the attack on the planet it manifold. It is rich in it's supply of gems and crystals...some of which the Jedi can use for their sabers. Add to that it's one of the wealthiest planets. Added to the fact that it's a wonderful way to draw attention away from other planets.
He said with a wink.

Chase gave a half-hearted smile at the mention of “drawing attention”. And while, for a moment, she was still just that itty bit curious as to the story behind Jade’s name, it was quickly lost at the idea of going to war. She never really expected to live long enough to see the Sith and Republic meet each other in open conflict again, especially after being part of the last one. And yet, oddly enough, she felt securer being part of the Sith this time. The fact that Jade had not mentioned any sides however gave her that little bit of hope that her guess was wrong.
If they were going to war though, at least she wouldn’t have to worry about losing on a technicality. The Sith, unlike the Republic, had a slightly more stable grasp as far as politics were concerned. Perhaps that was because whoever didn’t follow the hive mind, didn’t live to object.
“It should be an interesting battle,” Chase pointed out thoughtfully, trying to drive the thoughts of war from her mind for the moment. “I’ve never faced a corporate before…”

Jade's eyes glittered oddly at her statement. Sitting back, he folded his arms across his chest and smirked, a look fitting the devilish color of his gaze.
Well then, it will be a novel experience for the both of us...neither have I.
He stated, his mind once again turning to run over the little information he had on the upcoming battle.
Now, since you seem to be ready and willing, how about we put you to work? Is that agreeable to you?
He asked. Of course, he knew what his answer would be despite hers, but he'd give her the chance to decide for herself.
