(((Sorry if it’s rough… I have to get back into the Ean swing of things…)))
[…from x]
It had been a long year for Ean Stenner, and much had happened, good and bad. The forefront of this was the whole business of the Aunna Borgonia bounty, and Ean had decided to put that whole business behind him. He would no longer think about it. It was over and done with, and there was nothing he could change about the result, whether he liked it or not. There were a couple loose ends here and there, but they would keep a while. Even getting back to Sam could wait a bit longer. The Corellian was exhausted--physically, mentally, emotionally--and he needed a break. The real question was just how much of a break he was going to be taking. For now, he had put out the message that he was not seeking any new bounties at the moment, that he was taking a long overdue holiday off from ‘the Job.’
After the Borgonia business had been concluded and he’d been paid, Ean had returned back to Corellia. It just seemed the most logical place to go, even though he had no family left there, not counting his three brothers whom he would rather not see anyway. But also he had had to drop Zero Gantori back there; Corellia was where the woman had joined their little party and had needed to get back to her own ship and other personal items. Though he had not lived there permanently for quite some time, the planet, especially the city of Tyrena, felt like home to him. It had changed over the years, but there were still familiar things everywhere he looked, and it was oddly comforting.
His pilot, the slicer Felze Zeng, had stayed on, at least for the moment, if only for lack of an unsure future. Having giving the Zeltron free rein to do whatever he wanted for the first few days after their arrival, Ean knew it was time to finally discuss things with the man. The Corellian’s decisions about his own future could have a direct effect on what the Zeltron wanted to do. While on leave from bounty business, Ean had no use for a pilot; since returning he had just puttered around his ship and the spaceport, occasionally leaving to spend a few hours’ time at a nearby cantina or with the company of a woman. He had no urge to leave Corellia any time soon. It wouldn’t be fair for Felze to hang around Ean without anything resembling a job to do, even if he was still getting paid.
So Ean had asked the Zeltron man to meet him at the Daystar cantina, just a few blocks from the Tyrena spaceport. Ean himself had arrived a couple hours before the appointed time, needing some time alone with his thoughts and a good mug of Corellian ale. He couldn’t tell Felze anything if there was nothing to tell, so he had to sort some things out before his companion and partner joined him. The leave of absence had been an easy decision to make. Ean needed some time to regroup and recoup after the past year’s events. No one would begrudge him that. What he had to do now was figure out whether the stoppage would be permanent or not.
Various feelings and thoughts had come to him throughout the past months. And though she had been in his company a very short time, Samantha Zaftig had given him some more things to muse on. Things that had nagged at him, and at times Ean had questioned his current vocation. It was something he had just fell into a few years back after his body-guarding company went under, and he had decided to look for some other way to use his skills. In between, he had tried being a corporate hitman, but it had soon lost its appeal and had gotten boring. And now he wasn’t sure if being a bounty hunter was something that he wanted to do for the rest of his life. For the first time in his life Ean was actually thinking about his own happiness, and how to get it back.
He sipped from his mug and rested both of his large hands around it when he set it back down. Ean stared into the amber liquid like a mirror to another world. An emptiness that Sam had unknowingly touched on had now awakened, now that Ean no longer had a client to work for. He just didn’t know yet what to fill it with. What could he do, if he quit his current career? Someone with his background and skills could quite obviously be slotted into many different things. He could even conceivably get himself hired as a bodyguard again. But would they be things that he felt fulfilled or happy at? He knew he enjoyed cooking, but it was only a hobby. Ean couldn’t imagine himself starting over at his age and working to become a chef somewhere.
Of course, he didn’t have to reinvent himself at all. Ean had plenty of credits built up over the years and could quite easily live off those for quite some time. He wasn’t much of a spender and had only used what necessity called for. And without his father to send credits to now, there would be even more sitting in his account. No, money was not the chief reason to find something to occupy himself, but it would allow him the benefit of taking his time to figure out his future.
Ean then saw Felze enter the cantina and briefly raised a hand to the Zeltron. Well, this is it, he thought, as his partner made his way to the table. Whether or not he was ready with an answer, it was time to get some things out in the open with the Zeltron man. Felze was a slicer by trade and assumably wouldn’t want to be Ean’s pilot for any long period of time, especially if Ean’s pilot didn’t have anywhere to fly to. The Corellian knew he could easily find another if he ever decided to depart the planet. But ultimately it would be the Zeltron’s decision.
With a flick of a finger and a grunt, Ean indicated to the droid server to bring a second mug of ale for his companion. He waited for the droid to spin off before turning to Felze. Ean was quiet a moment, not sure how to broach the subject, the reason he had called the man here. Eventually he just decided to break the ice with something simple and innocent. “So… having fun? It was a bit monotonous perhaps, and Ean also knew that Felze had been here to Tyrena before, when his father died, but it would do as a conversation starter for now.
