Description/role:
Designed to act in the role of a flagship, the Archon is a very powerful presence on the battlefield, designed as a carrier and command ship, it is ill suited for actual combat. It carries a very powerful hyperdrive and much more powerful shield, intended to protect smaller ships. The Ion cannon mounted on the bow of the ship is only capable of firing forward and though very powerful, is meant mainly to combat heavy capital ships or clusters of smaller ships.
It is also fully capable of planet-side operation to deploy it's load or to act in a fire support role by utilizing it's 250mm cannon or missiles to bombard ground targets. Due to the projectile nature of many of it's weaponry, it is capable of providing both direct fire and over the horizon fire support. When needed, it is possible for the carrier to carry a large civilian populace in case of an emergency that mandates an evacuation. Much of the time, it is used to ferry massive cargo loads and supervise monuments events.
The CIWS and the AAA systems are purpose made anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems. The 40mm shells travel at around 900 km/sec and are propelled electromagnetically, same for the 480mm shells which are intended to puncture the hull and explode inside the enemy ship. The 480mm shells are more often then not, nuclear in nature and is also rigged to detonate on contact with a strong enough shield, though they will go inert upon coming in contact with a planet's atmosphere. This is due to the corporation's policy against excess collateral damage, the inert shell is designed to disintegrate inside atmosphere, the nuclear fuel tritium-3, is relatively safe and vented.
The aircraft launch mechanism is for during in atmospheric operation or to shorten the scramble time for fighters. This means that in atmosphere, aircraft can be deployed long distances and only need to activate their engines once at the target so they only need to expend fuel getting back to the ship. Also, the inactive fighters at launch tend to look like shells, meaning that counter aircraft tend not to be scrambled until after it is too late.
