The first thing that most people think about Shanti is 'cute'. A small-framed, thin red head with pale skin,a light dusting of freckles, and large green eyes, she is a girl who is young, but looks even younger than her actual age. Her dark red hair is curly, and she generally keeps it long, despite the inconvenience of having it so. She often ties it back when she's working. The pale skinned human has some visible tone in her muscles, though not very much; Shanti is not particularly strong. She has terrible posture from years of crawling around and crouching and sneaking. There is however, a certain arrogance to her movements; she seems to be looking down and judging everyone around her with her large green eyes.
Most of the time she doesn't work particularly hard at her appearance; simple, dark outfits in synthleather and no make-up is generally all that suffices. Shanti tends to keep her arms covered, but if she ever goes sleeveless, burn scars and knife cuts are clearly visible. Most of those are from accidents. She also wears a belt that holds her vibroknife, and occasionally her blaster pistol, but it is not uncommon for the latter weapon to be shoved down her boot. The girl in her does have a fondness for certain fripperies however, and when she goes out on an evening, or to a particularly nice cantina, she has a wide variety of trendy, bright outfits to choose from, and she'll generally go for an elaborate makeup look that brings out her eyes. She tends to own a lot in blues and greens, but in mostly cheaper materials as Shanti is not particularly rich; her everyday clothes tend to have a lot of wear and tear in them. All she needs is one good payout so she can afford new ones.
Personality:Above all, Shanti is a self-centered, self-absorbed girl with a strong independent streak. She has very little empathy for others, be they human or alien. This probably came from an early childhood where Shanti was mostly left to her own devices and so never really mastered the skill of connecting with others. She doesn't mind other people, she just doesn't think about them much. Her main drive in life is to have one that is enjoyable; filled with riches and wonders and fun. So she really only works as hard as she needs to in order to indulge in the things that she wants and doesn't look to the future at all. She has an affinity for hardware and hacking, which is the only reason she manages any sort of success in her work at all. It also helps that she's not above lying, cheating, stealing, or killing to get what she's after and 'fair play' is not in her vocabulary at all.
She can be pleasant when she chooses and if she's had a few drinks in her. Shanti has a sharp tongue and has some measure of intelligence; when she's in a good mood, she's been known to actually be funny. And Shanti does like to have a good time; to indulge in all manner of spirits and drugs, to flirt with what passes her fancy. A good companion for a short time, but doesn't take long for her true colors to come out. Her disregard for people in general makes her a hard person to really get to know. She is a girl of many acquaintances but few friends.
When it comes to bounty hunting, Shanti doesn't play by anyone's rules – in part because as young as she is, she does not know them. She's equal parts inexperience and arrogance, which could very easily get her into major trouble if she does not learn very quickly. She's really only escaped disaster so far by luck and the skin of her teeth, and it seems unlikely that her luck will hold for very long.

Bio:
A Street Rat is born
Shanti Bishan was born on Nar Shaddaa to Tyrell and Cessia Bishan; both of whom worked on the docks of Nar Shaddaa as maintenance workers. Their pay was poor and the hours they worked were long; Shanti spent most of her infancy and formative years either in a crèche where she was one of many children who parents were similarly busy. Occasionally, when the cost of keeping her there became too exorbitant, she was taken to work with her parents. At times the young girl was looked on more as a burden than a joy, and while her parents weren't cruel or deliberately neglectful, they were stressed and somewhat inattentive. Shanti developed and independent and willful streak from a very early age. In the crèche, Shanti was put in with a wide mix of humans, near humans and aliens, and there she started to pick up the basics of the two dominant languages on Nar Shaddaa – Basic and Huttese – the ability to communicate well was a good way to stay alive in Nar Shaddaa. She also made a few friends as well, mostly human, but Twi'leks and others could be counted among her chums.
The crèche Shanti was put in offered an early education of sorts to the children who went there. Since the majority of them were children of laborers and most of the education given to even the youngest focused on the practical; reading was taught from technical manuals for example. Shanti displayed a decent, quick intellect in these early lessons but a certain laziness and short attention span meant that she did not quite get everything she could out of those lessons.
It did not help that there were times when she could not go to those lessons, for her parents could not afford them. When she was around the age of five, times had gotten especially tough and Shanti did not see her friends or teachers for several months. Those days she would go with one or other of her parents to the docks – usually her mother Cessia - and she would be forced to find some way to occupy herself while her parents earned a living. For Shanti, this usually meant roaming around, exploring crates and tubes, and climbing into anything that looked like a tunnel. In this manner the small girl found inventive new ways of getting around and traversing Nar Shaddaa. Her parents rarely noticed. She'd also occasionally come across broken droids and other tech, and Shanti discovered a fondness for taking things apart.
Different Kinds of Schooling
Once Shanti's parents could again afford to send her back to school, she found herself with new teachers, and a new set of peers. They were still a mix of human and non-human, but they came from some of the poorest families. Shanti, being young and with a strong independent streak, viewed the change without to much sadness, preferring instead just to go with the flow. These new 'friends' of hers were of a rougher sort, they bullied smaller kids, skipped school, and clearly had been taught to pick pockets and steal from somebody. Shanti, being more of a follower than a leader, and not really inclined to getting bullied, opted to join the group instead of standing against them. As the group aged, they became a gang of juvenile delinquents. Mostly they stole and vandalized, and dreamed of joining the criminal elite of Nar Shaddaa, though being children, and rather stupid ones at that, they were really just pipe dreams. Shanti, with her small size, technical aptitude and knowledge of the ducts and sewers, was used primarily to get in and out of places quickly. She was smarter than most of her peers, but had no interest in the power plays of the other kids; she was content to just go along with the flow. She kept her parents in the dark about her extra-curricular activities – as long as she wasn't caught or come to the attention of what passed for law enforcement on Nar Shaddaa, she was in the clear.
When she wasn't running with her gang, she did manage to attend a few classes; where despite her lack of enthusiasm for actual work she demonstrated a knack for electronics and tech that far surpassed most of her apathetic classmates. She spent most of the classes listening to teachers bemoaning her laziness and attempting to get the girl to study engineering. Shanti was not interested in being someone stuck in the same task day after day; she did not want to be like her parents at all.
The First Bounty
Shanti was about twelve and causing trouble with her gang when she first came across major disaster. Her gang, who called themselves the Red Dragons, were tagging the walls in the Red Sector. Unfortunately, their choice of space was owned by a Hutt 'businessman' Fretto, and he sent his guards to capture the kids. Most of them escaped, but Shanti and two of the others were caught. Brought before the Hutt, they cowered as he threatened them with severe punishment for their vandalizing, and a even more severe punishment if they did not reveal the names of their associates. Her companions, not wishing to be rats, kept their mouths shut.
Shanti did not. Seeing no reason to 'take one for the team', she listed off the names and addresses of everyone who had been a part of the gang. Fretto was actually somewhat surprised by her candidness; for most of those he faced did not come out so easily with the information. The two who stayed silent were punished severely, a fate that Shanti did not share in; she was let go. She was even given a few credits for making the life of the guards so much easier.
That was when Shanti discovered that there really was no benefit to trying to protect others, and in fact, there was a lot of profit to be made from squealing. Thought it meant she could no longer run with the Red Dragons, Shanti was patently unaffected by sentimentality. A girl who was small enough to fit through ducts and could hack and bypass at least basic security systems was a welcome addition to any gang. And she joined several. For generally it was not long after Shanti joined a gang that many of the old members found themselves in hot water with what passed for authority on Nar Shaddaa. Shanti had been joining gangs, and as long as she was benefiting – she learned how to use a blaster pistol from the Crazy Hacks and acquired a vibroknife while working with the Blue Falcons - stuck with them. But as soon as she saw Wanted notices for them, and credits offered for information, she jumped on it.
Teenage Years – Discovering Vices
At around the age of fifteen, life started taking an interesting turn for Shanti – she shared a class with a boy who often did jobs for his smuggler uncle. This boy; Kylar, knowing her predilection for hacking into things, offered to give her a job helping him and his uncle untag some of the merchandise so that it could be sold without being tracked. He was a handsome boy, dark hair, dark eyes, and tall, and Shanti was infatuated, so she accepted. The job went off without a hitch, and Kylar and Shanti celebrated their success and credits by splurging on a night in the VIP section of a local cantina. It was Shanti's first experience in a place like that; and she loved it. The noise, the people, the fighting, the drinks. Especially the drinks. She made a vow to herself to come as often as she could. She also discovered something else that night; Kylar had not asked her along just because of her skills.
Their earliest forays into the realm of desire were tentative; alcohol-fueled, curious, and fumbling. Shanti would sneak out whenever she could to meet him, her oblivious parents none the wiser. Their hesitant explorations grew more confident the more they saw each other and it was on the eve of her sixteenth birthday that Shanti decided to go all the way with Kylar.
It was not at all what she expected; a pleasant enough exercise, but Shanti found herself not understand what all the fuss was about. She wondered briefly, but not for long, if it was because as much as she enjoyed the other boy's company, she was not truly in love with him. It didn't stop her from continuing to see him, but she always ended up feeling like she was missing something.
Then the bounty was posted. Throughout her time working for Kylar's uncle, Shanti had still kept an eye out for other ways to earn money; to bring in people that she knew she could find. One day she was checking it when she noticed a familiar name – the name of Kylar's uncle. For the first time in her life, she was torn about what to do – the reward was substantial and Shanti was broke and didn't want to turn it down. In addition, it was a true bounty; the person who posted it wanted the man himself, not just information. On the other hand, such a thing would likely mean the end of her relationship with Kylar. After much debate within herself, Shanti came to a decision. The very next job she took with the uncle, instead of following orders; she captured him. Having nothing more than her blaster on hand she had to improvise; rope used to tie down cargo worked very well to tie up the wanted smuggler and she ended up strapping her belt to his mouth to keep him from talking. She was just about ready to take her bounty to the employer when Kylar walked in. An argument broke out, and in desperation, Shanti shot him, killing him dead on the spot. She finished the job, collected the money for her bounty, and then spent the rest of the evening drowning her sorrows at the cantina.
A Novice Bounty Hunter
As a result of the capture, Shanti's path became clear. She decided to continue her life as a bounty hunter. A rash decision made at sixteen, for Shanti starting out was not well suited to the task. It was true she had a blaster, and could hack, but she had no ship and no other equipment meant to take down a fleeing target. Still, Shanti tried. For two years, she stayed on Nar Shaddaa; capturing people as part of the endless war between all of the various pirate, bandits, smugglers, and black market dealers that owned the planet. Her methods were piecemeal, borne out of necessity and a lack of decent equipment. Her favored method was to break into another bounty hunter's ship and steal the bounty they intended to bring in. Seduction ended up being a useful technique to getting close to her mark and Shanti was never shy about deploying her looks. Being young, and not particularly bright about such things, she never asked for more money than what was offered took any job she could manage, not just those with a high price tag.
She continued to frequent cantinas, in part to get the gossip and dirt from the lowlifes who hung around there, but mostly because she enjoyed the atmosphere. She was not very careful with the money she did get; choosing to spend it on novelties rather than the things she really need to buy in order to be a successful bounty hunter. She still kept her parents in the dark, which helped when she bought a living space on Nar Shaddaa for herself, effectively declaring herself an adult and cutting herself off from them. For two years she has lead a solitary life; infrequent casual encounters, not really letting anyone get too close to her, focusing on getting money. She wants to move on to bigger and better things, but it was not until she was eighteen that she figured out how.
She never understood why it didn't occur to her before. She was standing at the bounty board, looking at a notice for somebody who was off planet. Since she had no ship, and no money for passage, there was no way she was going to be able to take it; though the sum was lucrative. She looked over at the docks and watched the droids loading cargo when it hit her; if she wanted offplanet, she could simply stow away on a ship. A few days later, Shanti was on a ship for Coruscant, in search for her next big score.

Shanti sat in the corner of the Droid's Oil Cantina, drinking something that certainly looked like it came out a droid, and to her admittedly unsophisticated pallet tasted pretty much the same. She would have returned it and gotten something better, only she couldn't afford it. She really needed a job, and soon. But she doubted she would find it here.
She thought she had been heading for Coruscant when she stowed aboard that cargo cruiser; she had been looking forward to seeing the capital; the giant city planet that was so much cleaner, so much nicer than her homeworld of Nar Shaddaa. That's what the manifest said at any rate. But somewhere along the line, Shanti had made a giant mistake. Perhaps it was because she had gotten off at a rest stop, instead of the actual destination like she thought. Perhaps there was a course change. Or maybe she had just gotten the serial numbers wrong. No matter the cause, where Shanti was now was not where she wanted to be. She did not want to be on some backwater planet in the middle of nowhere waiting for the next ship heading for Coruscant to arrive. She did not want to be stuck in some dark greasy dive of a cantina that didn't seem to have anything decent to imbibe. She certainly didn't want to be stuck in an nearly empty bar devoid of anyone but two large, hardscrabble looking humans who were raucously pounding back the same dark swill that she was trying to choke down. So far they hadn't noticed the short redhead in the corner, but it was only a matter of time. Shanti stared deeply into her drink, her hair falling down her shoulder and covering most of her face from view; trying to look as inconspicuous as possible.
It seemed to work. Either that or the booze was making them blind. They started talking louder and louder, and not one of them seemed to notice Shanti.
”Don't you see Arnst? With this guy, I'll be set! I've been saving you know. With the credits from this job, I'll be able to put something down for a farm.” One of the was saying, waving his drink around wildly.
”You want to farm?” The one that the other man had called Arnst seemed skeptical.
”I'd be a good farmer!” The man said indignantly. “Was raised to it y'know.” Arnst only snorted in reply. “Well I would!”
“Please Reeger. You're seriously telling me you'd hang up your blaster, get rid of your jetpack, stop chasing people around the galaxy, just so you can be poor and dig through dirt?”
“At least I'd be alive. You know I'm not as young as I used to be. Sooner or later I'll be on the hunt, and the bounty will be just a hair faster. I wanna get out while I still can.” Reeger looked down into his drink mournfully. “This one will do it. We just need to get back to Coruscant.”
Shanti couldn't believe her pure, dumb luck. She had thought these men were miners. She hadn't expected bounty hunters. She especially didn't expect them to have caught someone. Without lifting her head, she continued to listen to their conversation, trying to get as much information as she could out of them. As the two men babbled on as if no one else was in the cantina, Shanti's smile grew. By the time the two men finished another three rounds of the putrid booze, she knew everything there was to know – the name of the target, the person who was paying, the price, and most importantly, the name of the ship the two men were traveling on. From the sound of things, these two weren't going anywhere for the night.
Which gave Shanti plenty of time to find their ship, find the bounty tied up inside of it, and find a good place to hide for the trip back to Coruscant. She'd have the entire trip to figure out how she was going to snake the mark away from the two louts, but she was confident she figure out a way. Even if not, at least she'd be on Coruscant. Things were definitely looking up. Shanti looked once more at the sludge in her glass. Well, things could always be worse. With a grimace, Shanti drained her glass.
