Description/role:
The Squib Scout-Freighter is, for lack of a better phrase, a flying cargo hold. Designed entirely around the ability to carry scrap merchandise to be sold port to port, the Squib-built, boxy shaped vessel sits somewhat uncomfortably between a light freighter, an exploration ship, and a crate with an engine strapped to the back of it.
Much of the interior of the ship is dedicated to cargo haulage, leaving little in the way of creature comforts for the occupants; only the cockpit, refresher station and reactor chambers are divided in any meaningful way, leaving the rest of the vessel's usable space constantly surrounded by whatever material its crew wishes to carry, and cargo-netting to ensure it stays in place.
Armament and defense for the Scout-Freighter is almost nonexistent; the hull is entirely formed from scrap materials cobbled and welded together, and whilst the vessel has shielding, it's extremely weak even compared to smaller vessels. Oftentimes, the crew itself is required to be able to enact repairs mid-flight, and whilst its poorly-designed hull can be a death sentence, it's also easily fixed; any old bit of scrap found can be welded on as necessary.
Offensive armament consists of two tractor beams, one dorsal and one ventral of the boxy fuselage, mainly used to catch and trap floating debris and refuse rather than fighting. Creative use of these beams, however, do provide some means of combat capability; hold space can be vented of junk to use as impromptu weapons or shields, as the beams move the pieces of trash into the appropriate positions. Hurling objects toward assailants is a tried and true Squib tactic against other vessels, often bashing the enemy hull with tonnes of refuse before fleeing.
The best tool the Scout-Freighter has, however, is its speed and its sensors; its sensor net is broad and sensitive due to its fine-tuned approach to tracking refuse, and with its lighter-than-average hull and lack of weapons, its speed is above most potential predatory vessels that would do it harm. A class seven hyperdrive ensures some modest travel, though it's far from the leading edge of the spectrum by any means.
Overall, it's a hunk of trash, but as far as Squib technology goes, that's about as good as it gets.
