I've been kicking around the thought of writing this for a while, but never really committed to putting the proverbial pen to paper to do it. But I suppose there's not any reason in continuing to delay.
It's not small secret, for anyone who has eyes to see this site that its best days are behind it. It was bound to happen eventually, and after nearly a decade, I don't think there's anyone who can say that SWU had a bad run.
Speaking personally, I joined this website when I was entering my freshman year of college. During my time here, I've forged friendships that still hold strong to this day, eight years later. I've grown as a writer, and as a person through my times, good and bad, with this website and I wouldn't trade any of it for anything.
But as with all things, people drift on. Interests change, and activity fades. SWU, resilient as she was, is not immune to this. And while the signs of it slowing down had come in bursts for the past few years, it held on, especially bolstered by a final frenzy of activity in the aftermath of The Force Awakens' release.
Still, that passed, and I don't think anyone would argue that SWU is mostly done these days.
For those of you who still check in from time to time, or who ever feel the urge to write again, SWU will remain open for that. If you still pick away at a thread when you feel like it, know that you're welcome to do so. If you have old threads or characters you cherish, they won't be deleted. And if you still wish to pop your head in whenever you want, feel free to. I still check every now and then myself.
For those of you who seek somewhere to write, I'd suggest Wayfinder's Rest. It's a different setting, in Dungeons & Dragons fantasy, but it's a good place, and already home to several SWU alums. This is, of course, merely a suggestion.
For everyone here, thank you for your time and your effort. Thank you for the countless hours writing and plotting and just being you and making this site a wonderful oasis of creativity. Thank you for your characters, your ideas, for everything. You all made this a vibrant, wonderful community. Perhaps this site will rise again, one day, and my ear is always open to anyone who comes along with an idea to breathe life to it once more.
Until that day, if it ever comes, my the Force be with you all.
