Overall Looks • Rahse is handsome at worst and charming at best, usually running a tight gambit between the two. With crimson red skin and pointy ears, the man is decidedly Zeltron, leaving little room for debate with his dark brown hair. Clocking in at average height and weight, Rahse keeps in good shape, little fat bowing to healthy amounts of muscle. The greatest contrast that can be found beyond a few small scars under his clothing are, without a doubt, his striking green eyes. Sharp as tacks, they gaze out from under well-defined brows, exuding intelligence and hunting for eyes to match them. For day to day life, the man is dressed sharp and simple; well-cut suits for formal events, put-together outfits for casual outings, and any outfit appropriate for anything else. When time comes for field work, the Zeltron shifts into a totally practical wardrobe. Tan shirts, tough pants, brown boots, and his loaded belt can always be found under whatever sorts of other gear necessary to dive into all manner of ruins. And no matter what, Rahse will never be caught dead without his hat. For formal events, it often sports ornate feathers tucked into the band. For the daily tumble of life, it is never left out of his assemblage. Personality Profile If you were to go into the Galactic Standard Dictionary and look up the word “smooth”, you would find a great-looking picture of Rase Hyul. Negotiation might as well be his fourth name, as years and years of practice have bestowed upon him a tongue made of gold and a personality made of silk. It’s incredibly hard to muster any sort of uncouth or otherwise outraged reaction from him. Naturally, he’s not made of stone, but after years of polishing his poker face, proper etiquette, amiable and agreeable speech, and incredibly economic and business-like approach to most scenarios, one might think him to be. Truly, the only thing that terrifies him are snakes. He. Hates. Snakes. Rase is also a grade-A cheat and conman. Disguised behind that veil of proper manners and professionalism sits a mind constantly cranking out ways to secure what it wants at the lowest possible price to itself, meaning that if someone has something that the Zeltron desires, one way or another he will get his hands on it. This can result in any number of methods; negotiation, threats that may or may not be true (though such threats are rarely made), figurative choke-holds (in which the party opposed has little choice), a trade of information that may or may not be correct, etcetera. His preferred method, by far in fact, is a simple gamble; one that is fair and chance-controlled to the eye but is incredibly rigged and one-sided in its probabilities. Rase simply assures that he is on the correct side of those odds. With that said, Rase’s hobbies include two very basic and ancient pastimes; charming and gambling. His silver-tongue is constantly used to make sure he’s never paying for his swindling, and his wit makes sure that he’s never running a deficit of chips or credits when in a game of chance. Of course, the man doesn’t particularly need the money, nor does he particularly back any of his warm or flattering words with their embodied emotions, but hey, if they worked for the ancients, they work for him. Background Father • Rahse Jones Hyul, Sr. , 61, gambler Mother • Giralda Martella, 56, deceased Siblings • Tito Gerona, 41, mutually unknown half-brother Audrey Hephest, 34, mutually unknown half-sister Other Important Connections • Lidah Faine, 37, former Darth and current information broker, friend Overall History • Born to a wandering gambler and a local seamstress in a small swamp town on Zeltros, Rahse never met his father. Rahse Sr. departed town after a night of passion with the young and impressionable Giralda, who was easily swayed by the gambler's charisma. When she faced single motherhood, the woman tried her best to be optimistic, even going so far as to name her son after the father and supply him with the only thing Sr. had left behind; a well-worn hat. As Rahse grew and life grew harder, however, Giralda's attempts at parenting vanished. Regularly drunk, furious, and depressed, Giralda's motherly instincts gave way to resentment and apathy. As a result, much of Rahse's childhood was spent on his own, only seeing his mother when he slept on the couch at night and striking out on his own to find food, education, and entertainment. With town's small size, days were spent playing with the other poorer children, often mimicking the adults around by arranging games of chance and trying their best to cheat each other out of credits. This mentality of constant stakes would stick with Rahse through life. Only surviving childhood thanks to a growing infatuation with history books, Rahse began to strike out as his teenage years rolled around, unwittingly adopting his father's profession. Moving from inn to inn, gambling hall to gambling hall, Rahse began to wager for his meals. To keep himself reliably fed, he quickly picked up the tricks to cheating, ranging from counting cards to hiding aces in his sleeves. At the start, he was caught often, incurring serious consequences and even being run out of town now and then. Out of necessity, he slowly improved into an expert cheat, finding just the right balance between fair play and making sure he would win before even starting. With what few credits he found disposable, the gambler indulged what he ironically considered a guilty pleasure; buying more books and reading them each and every day. Unlike his father, Rahse grew less and less satisfied with his life. Visiting his hometown, Rahse attempted in vain to patch his awful relationship with his mother at the news that she was terminally ill. The effort was moot, the woman's last living act to spit in his face. Torn between bitterness and apathy, Rahse made a stark decision; to leave the planet and become a historian. His plan was ramshackle, but with trial and error, the Zeltron made his way offworld and through the galaxy at large, learning to live beyond his home planet and gaining a growing wanderlust. By his 20's, he had the money, preparation, and will to finally settle down, apply for college, and get to studying. School proved a difficult change from the gambler lifestyle, with Rahse only making it through by regularly robbing his classmates of credits at their displeasure. Still, with hardship and dedication, the Zeltron made it through undergraduate work and decided to venture onward to a full-on doctorate. Among his many colleagues, Rahse found good company in his friend Rene Horato Emile. While their relationship was one of mirth, the two competed relentlessly, often trying to out do the other's work with their own. Come graduation for the both of them, however, both had become fascinated with pre-hyperdrive history and legends. In particular, both subscribed to a strange, archaeologically-comical idea; that prior to the foundation of the Republic, some large nation had not only had interstellar capabilities, but had influence over most known civilized systems. With admittedly little proof, Rene in particular dedicated himself to the idea, eventually disappearing from his friends and family. Rahse, who had learned early in life how to control his passions, still investigates this theory to this day. Receiving a position as an adjunct professor of xenoarchaeology at the University of Agamar. This makes him a part-time professor, choosing to spend the rest of his time and energy going out and learning history the old-fashioned way. |
