Black hair hangs messy, buzzed along one side while long on top, over a rectangular face with a strong jaw line. Dark skin under their eyes often gives Danel the look of one who has not slept in days. Smooth, caramel colored skin covers knobby and lanky limbs that are quick on reflexes, but not very strong. Clothing tends toward shades of black with a strong preference toward leather. Danel can often be seen wearing dark makeup, or glaringly bright colors, or none at all. Not often "clean". Danel doesn't much care for conforming to gender norms. In fact, flying in the face of them is a favorite pastime. Danel will often mix overtly masculine and feminine clothing and styles. Personality Profile Danel is a survivor. Since early childhood, Danel has had to learn how to do what must be done to see another day. Back then, it was wearing feminine clothing and enthusiastically confirming that she was a girl. After the Mandalorian attack on Onderon and the subsequent mass exodus of Onderonian civilians to refugee camps on Corellia, it was about finding enough food and clean water. Since leaving the camps, it's been boosting speeders and other craft in order to make enough money to buy booze and drugs. Danel is loud, brash, and aggressive in almost all things. Much of life for Danel is about finding that next fix, or the thrill of joyriding in a stolen speeder. Danel chases one high after the next, desperately avoiding any sort of quiet that might allow the black mess of emotions, pain, and regrets to surface. She completed their perfect family of four. Edur took great pride in his family, and expected quite a lot from all of them. For Amaya, this meant keeping an immaculately clean house and having dinner on the table when he arrived home on the days when he was not away on Defense Corps business. For Mikel, it meant perfect grades in school and a demanding schedule of sports and activities that would shape him into a strong and responsible man, ready to join the military and protect his planet like Edur and all the men in the Koldobika family for as long as could be traced back into history. For Danel, it also meant perfect grades, as well as a submissive and demure nature. It meant feminine clothing and activities. It meant torture. It wasn't necessarily that Danel disliked the dresses or anything like that, it was that Danel was forced to submit. Edur would suffer no resistance to his control and it took many bruises and tears for Danel to learn that lesson. The strict and ordered life of the Koldobika family was completely obliterated, however, when the Mandalorians invaded Onderon. Edur had already been away from the family home in Iziz when the attacks began. He would not be seen again. Amaya managed to get her children to an evacuation point, but was separated from Danel and Mikel. They made it onto a ship, but Amaya did not. The ship took the siblings to Corellia, which had offered full support to all Onderonian refugees. Danel and Mikel spent the next three years surviving in a refugee camp. The two often clashed, with Mikel trying to take charge like their father had. Danel pushed back against Mikel's every attempt. For the first time, Danel was free to dress, speak, and behave in whatever way felt natural. And as a young adolescent with no real authority figure, that meant acting out to extremes. When Mikel turned 18, he joined up with Republic military recruiters. He and Danel were offered permanent resident status. This allowed them to leave the refugee camps and Mikel found them a small apartment that they could afford on his salary. Mikel again tried to impose some sort of authority over Danel, but with being away so often for training and assignments, he had little success. Danel would spend less and less time at the apartment, instead spending weeks at a time out with groups of less and less civilized hooligans. Danel quickly developed a dependence on several types of chemicals and supplemented the habits with the newly acquired skills of breaking into and stealing speeders and other types of ships. Currently, the only sense of normalcy or family Danel might be able to claim includes the people she has met at Bennigan's, a bar owned by one Kailani Quix. Here, Danel sometimes helps with cleaning, stocking, or whatever grunt work Kai needs done. Danel has formed a particularly close relationship with Aurie, Kiro, and Jaxson. |
