Appearance Face Claim • Mike Dopud Height & Weight • 6' 0" 192 lbs Overall Looks • Every inch a soldier, Saul Talion stands as a paragon to a soldier of the Republic. A man that is well built, he sports broad shoulders and a body that appears chiseled like trimmed ironwood, all while bearing a solid stance that augments his physical presence. His hair is brown and cut short per military standards, although flashes of silver have begun to weave through it. His eyes are brown as well, serious and and piercing, although these can soften and show a more pensive outlook. His features are usually serious while deployed and on battle, however he can revert to a more jovial and carefree expression in his spare time. Per military regulations he usually keeps his face shaven. Saul mostly dresses with a olive, high collared version of the navy uniform, displaying his rank insignia of Admiral and keeping his service blaster pistol at hand just in case while his boots reach to his knee. While off duty he reserves to shirts, trousers and brown or black dress shoes. On important ceremonies he does the red and gold dress uniform of the Republic Navy with white gloves and many of the medals he has earned through his exemplary service pinned on his chest. Personality Profile Talion is characterized by his personal moral compass, usually making decisions based on his own sound judgment. He detests bureaucracy and politics that come with his rank and position within the military, although several decades of conflict have taken their toll on his formerly iconoclastic attitude and ideals. This has made him somewhat apathetic to underhanded schemes within the Republic military, although there are still lines he is unwilling to cross. Saul evidently cares about the lives of the soldiers serving under him and would often comfort them during difficult times. A no-nonsense officer he has a low tolerance for inadequate performance from the crews of any start ship on his command, but is always willing to put time to mentor and train them the best he can, is due this that the Fleet he heads, the Fourth Republic Fleet has gained the moniker of the 'Fearless Fourth' for its highly skilled crews. On several occasions throughout his career, Talion has disregarded the orders of a superior if he feels that the order is either morally wrong or tactically incorrect, and will instead do what he believes is the correct proper of action. That being said he is prepared to make sacrifices in order to attain victory. A Corellian true and through, he is highly patriotic, feeling pride on his vocation and doing the best he can to uphold the values of the Republic, whilst as the same time striving to protect his beloved homeworld. Overall History • Military Upbringing Saul Talion was born on Corellia to Avitus and Euphrati Talion both distinguished soldiers within the Republic Military who had come from military families that could trace their lineage back to the formation of the Republic, with a member of the family serving in each major conflict and such it was expected from him to serve within the armed forces by the time he had become of age. Due this he spent most of his formative years with tutors as he learned of military tactics, history, mathematics and sciences. With his mother and father often absent as they were deployed to quell armed conflicts, he would form a close bond with his elder brother, Ortan, and his younger sister, Aspira, often escaping from their tutors and guardians, sneaking to play unto the garden and outside the state like any young child would. While his parents were strict they were never overly harsh and displayed affection to their children. By the time he was fourteen, he was sent to one of the Military Academies to complete his education and then become a member of the military, although by this point he was unsure of what path he would take. His time in the academy was tough, as it had been the very same academy his brother Ortan, who had been one of the finest cadets in the academy's history, and everyone expected much from him. The teaching staff would express their disappointments but this would shape him to work well under pressure. During his last year of the academy, tragedy struck, as his brother who had become an officer within the Republic Army, had perished on a mission on the outer rim. Initially he had wanted to go to the funeral services but since there had not been anything recovered, he was convinced by his parents to stay and finish his education. This trauma led him to choose not to join the army as he had originally reasoned to do and instead join the Starfighter Corps like her mother upon graduation. Flyboy By the time he had turned eighteen he had finished his education within the military academy and applied to Flight School and thanks to his grades and the fact that he was the son of a famous flight commander he was accepted and after two years of training he was cleared to join a squadron to patrol the trade routes that were often assailed by pirates. It was also that during this time he was introduced to Inna Gerov, daughter of Rear Admiral Gerov, who had become friends with his younger sister and the pair seemed to enjoy the company of the other, with his shore leaves being spent with the young woman. As the years progressed their relationship grew closer and the two soon married. After a month of honeymoon, Saul would return to service being deployed again on the Outer Rim. His exemplary actions during missions would see him receive promotions and commendations, while at home, he and Inna had at this point had two children, boys named Tarkus and Elias. However the initial problems on their relationship began to flourish as while she had been a military child herself did not approved of the length of times he had been deployed. During one mission, the pirate group had been augmented with mercenaries and during the hard battle, his entire squadron save himself, had been shot down. Himself injured he returned to his homes ship with a damaged starfighter. After the injuries he was shipped back to Corellia, and he successfully recuperated from his injuries, but the lost of the squadron had left him bitter. Not wishing to perish like the rest of his men, he would instead apply to train to become an naval warfare officer, with his application accepted he would then go to train after his injuries had been healed and his leave time had expired. Officer After graduation on top honors of his class with specialty on navigation, Saul was assigned as First Lieutenant of several ships, serving at first as assistant navigator and then taking command as Lead Navigator of the first cruiser he served. During the first months he stayed on patrolling ship with his precise movement enabling the ship to fight more effectively. During a particular battle, the ship he was stationed was severely damaged and he was reassigned due his exemplary service and the recommendation of his commander who saw much on the young man. While he had success with his life in the military, his personal life was suffering as he saw his family very little beyond the holo transmission and the few times he returned home. With his recommendation he was placed under the command of Kovus Borgonia, who would become his mentor, and under him, he progressed through the ranks, rising to become a Commander and Kovus' Executive Officer by the time he was thirty-two. The relationship between the two became strong, with the young Saul came to idolize his commander. Two years later, the two would part as he was eligible for a promotion as commander of his own vessel. Saying his goodbyes to the man that had become more than a mentor, but a good friend for life. Taking Command The first years of his command were difficult, for he was never comfortable with the performance of his troops, always demanding the best but never being too harsh with them. After being promoted to the rank of Captain he saw himself transferred to the Destroyer Dogosse, leading wolfpacks of ships to attack criminal syndicates, pirates and even terrorists groups. Saul would gain a reputation as a bold and innovative commander, his strategies never being the same and taking an unorthodox approach to difficult battles, although it seemed like his dislike of politics would prevent him from advancing further within the echelons of the military. However those under his command would know him as an understanding figure, and the crews that had come to serve him corresponded the loyalty to him, knowing that he would never would ask his men and women to do something that he would not be able to do by himself. This loyalty meant that many of his officers would reject promotions to stay under his command, creating a cohesive family among the ship under his command. An unity that would serve him well during the coming war with the nascent Sith Empire years later. War and Admiralty Still a Captain during the early stages of the war, he and his crew were deployed to the front lines, linking with other battle groups to halt the Sith advance through Republic Space. More and more he saw himself taking command of larger forces, with smaller vessels placed under his leadership. During a battle over Caamas, unto which he used his own heavy cruiser as a battling ram to break through the Sith lines, which caused his own ships and bombers to target the enemy fleet to be too stunned to act and thus winning the victory for the Republic, earning himself the moniker of 'Hero of Caamas' along with a visit to the board of inquiries for his action. In the last year of the war, finally his marriage dissolved, his wife divorcing him. Whilst sad and blaming himself for the failure of his marriage he finally understood what his wife had wanted, he did not grieve for the war continued, fighting on the front lines and even holding the his battle group to fight against the Sith Invasion of Coruscant. With the war over after the armistice, and with the lost of many good commanders on the fleet, Saul was promoted finally to Admiral and given command of the remnants of the Fourth Fleet as well as command of a new ship, the Ananke. With time and patience he reconstructed the fleet to its former glory, choosing capable commanders to captain the vessels under his jurisdiction. Time and frontier conflicts tested the newly rebuilt fleet but every time, the fleet forged through the intense training, tactics and command strategies grew in renew and became known as the Fearless Fourth. With the Fourth Fleet under his command, Admiral Saul Talion of the Republic looks to the stars, knowing that while peace may last, the war with the Sith would return. |
