This might lead one to assume that his Majesty would possess a certain regal rigidness but such is not the case. Instead his Majesty conducts himself with dignified grace that allows him to appear at ease and comfortable in any situation. Though his hairline might have begun to recede as of late, the silvery strands of his hair still lend him plenty of august dignity that comes with advanced age. He has also grown a beard as of late, which certainly compliments the appearance. In public His Majesty is known to be a sharp dresser, regularly keeping up with styles appropriate for his station. He has in the past even known to have set a few trends of his own. Personality Profile His Majesty is known across the Galaxy as a consummate diplomat and a statesman extraordinaire. He guides his nation with the steady hand of a loving but stern father, always looking after the well being of his subjects and tirelessly working for their benefit. All this he has so far accomplished largely without having to resort to the wide executive powers granted to him by the Tapani constitution for he understands that a King whom rules through influence rather than decrees can achieve greatness. In private his Majesty is known to be jovial and easily approachable by anyone wishing to do so. Our great King possess an almost uncanny ability to put people in his presence at ease, a skill that has greatly helped his diplomatic career. Even following our departure from the Republic, many of his former colleagues in the Senate remember him fondly and consider him a dear friend of theirs. Yet, although he cultivates these friendships still, his Majesty never allows personal connections come before the needs of his people. Now, there are those that claim that his Majesty might be all pleasant and polite in public but that behind closed doors he plays the game of politics with a far more sinister approach. The Royal Household has never given any credence to these rumours and has categorically denied all accusations of such actions. However, these rumours do not seem to die despite of such refutations and it might be asked whether or not this might suggest that there is some truth behind the whispers passed along among the enemies of the Crown. Background Important Connections • Grand Prince Eudon Mecetti, 45, Son & Heir Queen Consort Primela Melantha, 66, Wife Overall History • The man today known as the ruler of Tapani High Kingdom was born as the firstborn child of the second son of the then High Lord Berron Mecetti to very low expectations. Ambition wasn't something that was actively encouraged among the lesser off-spring of the High Lord so young Corik was groomed for becoming an idle aristocrat whose greatest duty would be to continue the direct line of his family. However, even as young man Corik found this an intolerable future and set out to change it. The greatest example of his determination to make something out of himself comes from the time his parents enrolled Corik to the prestigious Procopia academy, a venerable institution meant to groom young nobles to proper aristocrats; his future Majesty took one look at the curriculum and realized that in said academy he would naught but etiquette and proper conduct. So, without consulting with his parents Corik dropped out and applied for Coruscant Academy for Law and was promptly accepted. He quickly proved himself a sharp student and well liked by both his professors and fellow students. There Corik also developed a keen interest in Galactic politics and quickly became convinced that the current representative of Tapani sector, the Senator of Fondor Orrvin Barnaba, was ill suited for his current station and more interest in lining his own pockets with business kickbacks than looking after his constituents. Thus, upon graduation Corik set out to challenge the senator in the next elections. The race was tight but ultimately resulted in Corik winning by only few percents. His first term was a learning experience but despite some early tumbles, Corik managed to make enough of an impact to secure a re-election. Each of his successive terms improved on the previous. During the Great War he even ran unopposed on one occasion. By the time Tapani independence forced him to resigning he had developed a reputation as a shrewd and fairly honest politician whom was nonetheless willing to go low if his opponents resorted for bad faith tactics. Upon his return home Corik was greeted with bad news after another. His cousin had died, leaving him the High Lord of his house, every attempt to form a functioning government for the sector had failed and a civil war seemed like a distinct possibility. Just about the only pieces good news was that Corik would be fairly strong in that war if it began. However, he realized that he was uniquely positioned to stop the civil war from happening altogether; his on had been appointed as the supreme commander of the Tapani Security Fleet and Corik could mobilize his support on the Tapani Freeworlds to form a powerblock capable of obliterating any other alliance that the other Great Houses might throw together. Using this as leverage he forced them all around the same table and offered them a deal; a constitutional monarchy under him where the Great Houses retained much power through a bicameral parliament or risk being swept into the dustbin of history in a civil war that none but the most powerful wanted. Ultimately they all agreed, others enthusiastically, others gritting their teeth. Following his ascension to the throne, Corik has been hard at work to ensure the security and prosperity of his realm. |
