Standing at a relatively average height for a young girl her age, her overall physical stature is far less imposing as compared to many of her brothers and sisters within the Jedi Temple. With skin reminiscent of polished-marble, one would hardly take Maela for a true member of the Order because of her fragile beauty. Green eyes sparkling in similar likeness to those of brilliant emeralds, though her most stunning feature rests within her long flowing beach-blonde hair. Typically fashioned in a series of braids or bound back with a series of bands and ribbons. Although she does not posses the perfect figure eight body type, Maela still provokes the attractions of others with her lean athletic-build. With a supple bosom, gentle hips and firm buttocks, she is still considered attractive. With a preference for simple garments and light cloths, it is hardly a difficult task finding just about anything that Maela would not wear. Much akin to the typical clothing of her home world which consists of form-fitting clothing made primarily of her day-to-day clothing continues to consist primarily of her typical Jedi robes with a few modifications which remind her of her home. Along with these minor modifications, her clothing is designed to augment her natural quickness and agility by allowing her to make quick movements in which her clothing would hinder minimally. Using leather strips, she fashions wrist-bands and ankle bands to her body to help add the extra stability Maela requires when performing acrobatic feats. Personality Profile Maela Vrei is a loyal and devoted member of the Jedi Order who stands as an exemplar of the Order's philosophies and teachings. The Jedi Master is known among the Order for her devotion to the principle beliefs of the Jedi Order, though understanding the need for empathy, patience and a willingness to embrace the aspect of one's self. In her youth as a Youngling, Maela was regarded as highly impatient, brash and ambitious which gave was to bouts of anger and frustration when the progress of her training was eclipsed by others around her. It wasn't until a highly regarded Jedi Master by the name of Linth Kraell had taken a chance on the firey Maela that she began to understand the fault in her behavior and begin adhering to the philosophies of the Order. Her training taught her the value of Form Zero, using her highly empathetic nature and persuasive tongue as a means to disarm situations without a need for violence. Though despite this, her Firrerreo nature welcomed contest - something that many other members of the Order frowned upon. One aspect of Maela's beliefs is her personal interpretation of the Jedi Code, particularly the aspect of "There is no emotion, there is peace". Although she strongly believes in the Jedi Order as the best way to serve the will of the Force, Maela believes she understands why those who follow the way of the Darkside dismiss the teachings of the Jedi due to one inherent flaw in the teachings of the Jedi. She has come to believe that Emotion should not be dismissed by the Jedi, but be understood and controlled. Many Jedi believe that it is inherently the presence of Emotion that leads to the Darkside, but Maela has developed a contradicting belief. This philosophy is translated most clearly through her combat prowess. With Form VII being her favored and most specialized form, Maela embraces the strength that comes from the heat of battle, utilizing it but never succumbing to it due to her strong will and composure even in the most heralding of situations. Despite this however, Maela is never quick to rely upon these aspects and most notably initiates confrontations with Form Zero, and if things were to escalate further - Soresu. Maela is known to be highly capable of utilizing the Force to imbune her physical attributes which makes her a most ferocious opponent - coupled with her Firrerreo aspect. Alongside this, she displays telekinetic proficiency comparable to the highest members of the Order. Defensively, she highly proficient with defensive aspects of the Force, capable of cocooning herself within a bubble of Force energy to defend against physical and energy based attacks with a skill comparable to other highly skilled force users, but her mastery of absorbing energy, including force energy through contact is her most notable feat. Despite her fiery nature in her youth, Maela has overcome these aspects of herself and is most notably known to be soft-spoken, empathetic to the feelings of others, and genuinely concerned for the well-being of those around her. She is known to be very caring, often volunteering her free time to play with Younglings and offer free medical services to the poor. She enjoys games, primarily puzzles. In all situations, she remains vigilant and cautious for her method of approach. Maela has often been considered a willing ear to hear any concern of any wishing to get something off of their chest without judgement. She's highly sociable and can often be seen with a smile on her face, but in the event that she is required to dive into combat, an entirely opposite persona appears. She was known among the order as a renowned seer, predicting a number of tragedies in her time with a terrifying accuracy that allowed the Order to intervene in a number of events that would have led to great losses for the Republic. A separation of emotion and self was expected of a seer who could delve into the Unifying Force and see visions of the future, but something had worried the Jedi Master about her own future. It worried her so much that she had chosen to end her path as a Jedi and self-exile to a world deep within Wild Space - Morellia. It was here that she had chosen to wait out the coming calamity that she had predicted, but never in her wildest dreams would she have known that she would find something she could never have predicted finding here - love. Erek Vrei, a Morellian Enforcer had inspired something within Elara that for many years of her life she denied herself in service to the Order and the Force. But to deny this, now that she no longer followed the path of the Jedi, would be to deny herself. And so - she fell in love and the two had a child. Unfortunately tragedy would befall the pair and the vision Elara had foreseen would come to fruition. They arrived in the night, but Elara knew they were coming. She had already hidden their young child safely away with a neighbor in a nearby homestead under the impression that they would watch her for the night. All the while, Elara and Erek, who was unaware of what was coming, would enjoy their last night together. A loud explosion caused the house to quake as the front door was breached and a number of armed assailants entered the home and woke the pair from their sleep. Though before Erek could draw his blaster, they kicked their bedroom door open and began opening fire. Blaster bolts ricocheted against a shimmering veil of energy, a Force Barrier projected by Elara while she ordered Erek to escape while he could. He protested, finally managing to draw his Enforcer Pistol, but Elara sought to spare his life and utilized a trick of the mind to compel him to escape and recover their daughter. Erek escaped through their bedroom window and made haste across the open fields to the nearby homestead that was nearly eight kilometers away. Meanwhile, Elara went on the offensive. The hiss and hum of a lightsaber could be heard in the night, a blue glow emanating from their bedroom window followed by a number of crimson flashes of blaster fire. The sounds registered clearly in Erek's ears as she ran in the opposite direction through the compulsion of his lover. Finally managing to escape in the darkness, Erek arrived at the nearby homestead and found his daughter safely asleep with the neighbors. He immediately alerted them of their attackers and together they radioed a nearby patrol of Enforcers who rallied with Erek and returned to their homestead. However, upon their arrival they were met with a number of armored assailants who were clearly slain by the blade of a lightsaber, but Elara was nowhere to be found. All that was left was the destroyed hilt of her own lightsaber, cleaved in two by what could only have been another lightsaber. Erek burned his home to the ground and left his daughter in the care of their neighbors, the Vrei's to set out in pursuit of his wife's captors and those responsible for the attack on his home. He promised he would return in a few weeks time, but the weeks passed and many months did as well until the years began to roll by and Erek never returned. Chapter One — A Troubled Life Before the Jedi Maela's earliest memories were plagued with feelings of loneliness despite growing up with two other children close to her age. She was often plagued with feeling as though she were the black sheep of the family and it didn't help that she didn't share any physical similarities to anyone within the family she belonged to. The Vrei's who she knew only as her Mother and Father were dark-haired people and these traits were also inherited by their two biological children, but Maela was raised to believe that she was their flesh and blood as well. But even in her youth, Maela was highly analytical and empathetic and never found this to be entirely true in the back of her mind. Often times, Maela was teased by her siblings because she was frequented by the same reoccurring nightmare that often led to her wetting the bed or waking up screaming and in tears. By the age of four, the nightmares had become so severe she would often avoid sleeping altogether which caused a great concern for the Vrei's. They sought out a number of specialists, but none could identify what trauma the child had experienced that would have inspired such terrors. It wasn't until one night, just before dinner, that a knock was heard upon their door. Once Mr. Vrei had answered the door he was shocked to see a Jedi Knight stood on the opposite end. He introduced himself as Linth Kraell, a Jedi Healer who was working within the System to combat an outbreak that was isolated to the system. He sought to assess Maela's condition after learning of it while discussing patients with the local physician within the area. Linth inspected the young child, following through with the standard procedures of a medical examination. He asked her a number of questions, though he hardly expected much of a true response from a four year old, but it was clear even to the Vrei's that his being there wasn't entirely due to a medical reason. After going through the standard procedure, Linth stated that he had just one more assessment to make and informed them that he would only need a sample of Maela's blood. He produced a small device and instructed Maela to insert a single finger into it. With a single prick of the finger and a drop of blood, the test was complete. Linth informed the Vrei's that he would return in the morning once the analysis was complete and returned to town. The next morning, Master Kraell returned to the home at the crack of dawn with the results. The family was just sitting down to breakfast as his knock struck the door. They invited him to join them for breakfast before they began discussing the results to which he warmly accepted. Maela was enamored by the man, having heard stories of the Jedi from her siblings the night before. Strangely enough, her nightmares didn't come the night Linth had visited the family, and once the Vrei's had sat down in their family room to discuss, Maela was just an earshot away with her siblings - listening. Linth explained that the tests he had conducted were merely for appearances and that upon meeting Maela, he believed he understood what plagued her. He explained that the test he had conducted was in fact a Midi-chlorian test and went on to further reveal that Maela was highly force-sensitive and this was in fact a manifestation of her force-sensitivity. Linth went on to explain what would happen ordinarily in these special circumstances and offered to take Maela to the Jedi to help her overcome her condition. The Vrei's explained that they would need time to decide what they felt would be best for Maela and Linth agreed, offering them three days to make their decision before he was recalled back to the Order. Three days passed in the blink of an eye and the Vrei's argued back and forth about whether or not to allow the Jedi to take Maela in. Mr. Vrei had grown attached to Maela, given the fact that she was technically his only daughter as he had two sons of his own. Mrs. Vrei protested, stating that they couldn't help her even if they wanted to at this point, believing that the best option for her well being would be with the Jedi. Eventually the pair had come to an agreement and Master Kraell was contacted. Maela's belongings were packed, the essentials, and the Vrei's explained to Maela that Master Kraell would help her and that she would find her place with the Jedi. Eventually Master Kraell returned to the homestead to take Maela to the starport - she had never been beyond the homestead. The sight of the starships had astonished the young Maela who had only seen them on holo-vids and soon the pair boarded and set off to the Jedi Temple. Once the pair arrived, Maela was welcomed into the Order and inducted as an Initiate of the Jedi. Chapter Two — The Makings of a Troubled Jedi The first few months at the temple were difficult for Maela and were a significant adjustment to what she was previously accustomed to on Morellia. She was thrust into a world with a unique structure that surrounded her with various species and people she had never seen before. It wasn't strange that she was shy initially and it was expected that it would take some time for her to come out of her shell, but she wasn't the only Initiate to have arrived at the Order from Morellia. Another young child by the name of Oren Cadey had arrived just a week after Maela and the two soon came to bond over this. The months continued to roll by and the younglings were introduced to more academic elements - math, science, the arts, language, you name it. Language was something that Maela had immediately taken a liking to, finding that she could learn to bond with her other peers much more easily if she could speak with them in their native language or at least comprehend it. Most of the sciences were lost to her, but biology was something that she found a love for and understanding the physical makeup of the various species of people within the Republic was very interesting. Even on Morellia, Maela cherished her scholarly pursuits and could often be found with a book in hand. The histories of the Jedi also held a unique fascination with Maela, the stories of the founding of the Order, the fall of the first Jedi that would lead to uprising of their greatest opposition - the Sith, and the various histories that led to the formation of the Republic. Training began to diversify in the months and years that passed, introducing more martial aspects into their training to prepare the young Initiates for the use of a Lightsaber. They were taught the fundamentals of the first of the classical lightsaber forms - Shii-Cho, and were expected to grasp the foundations as part of their preparations of the Initiate Trial. Oren, who had grown into not only a friend, but a rival excelled in this practice where Maela struggled. The opposite could have been said for the academic aspect of their training where Maela exceeded many expectations of her mentors and instructors. The instructors sought to improve the Initiates competency with a Lightsaber and thus instruction utilized specialized hoods and remote droids to teach the fundamentals. Time and time again, Maela's frustrations got the best of her was she was struck with the sting of the remote droids - unable to deflect their low-powered bolts. Her lack of footwork often caused her to trip over herself and disrupt others of her class which led to her having to sit on the side and watch her peers. Oren was praised for his natural ability and often utilized as a teaching aid for their peers. |
