Imperial Response to Republic Declaration
The Galactic Republic issued a formal announcement regarding the treatment of Hutt Space once the Archeri threat has been eliminated. In no uncertain terms, Chancellor Vrieska and General Horst declared the sector off limits once the conflict has been resolved. While this statement is superficially meant to dissuade fringe elements from making their own moves onto what will likely be vulnerable territory, some speculate that it could be evidence that the Republic itself is fracturing.
"That such a formal declaration was deemed necessary is proof positive that the Republic's control over its own systems is tenuous at best." notes political pundit Bershaam Vorhees. "The Republic has long been criticized -from within and without- for its decentralized and often stagnant bureaucracy. Lacking structure and a strong leader, it is no wonder that the Chancellor and his general felt the need to publicly threaten their own systems into complying with the well established terms of the Combined Defense Accord."
Others have speculated that the Chancellor's announcement was blatantly meant for Imperial ears, though chief officials withing the Imperial Ministry deny these claims. Minister Lisza Cord, spokesperson for the Inner Imperial Cabinet had this to say: "Her Imperial Radiance has expressed a common resolve with Chancellor Vrieska in protecting the sovereignty of Hutt rule within the system, and regrets that he felt such an announcement to be necessary. We are truly fortunate, as citizens of the Empire, to have such clear and decisive leadership maintaining order and peace. May our Republic counterparts, one day, be so fortunate."
