Nova Grii Full Name • Nova Grii Nickname • -- Race • Human Birthplace • Nar Shaddaa Age • 21 Gender • female Sexuality • bisexual Faction • Sith Concept • Sith Acolyte: grew up in the Sith Empire, beginning to question everything Languages • Basic, Huttese Assets • lightsaber (orange crystal) basic clothing and boots Appearance Face Claim • Sophie Turner Height & Weight • 5'4" 150lbs Overall Looks • At first glance, Nova does not seem very impressive. She's short with a round face and a slightly heavy build, and her complexion is pale with pinkish tones across her cheeks and nose. Her hair has an unruly texture and is a bold shade of red. It falls to just beneath her shoulder blades and is usually tamed in a bun or a long braid. Her clothing style is also unassuming: plain dark clothes with a loose fit. Practicality is her main concern. The only striking thing about Nova's appearance is her eyes, not because they're unusual, but because they clearly indicate her disability. Her eyes are a very pale shade of grey with slight clouding of the pupils, and they have a distant, unfocused look. Personality Profile Nova is nothing if not fiery. She's full of anger, hatred, and passion and feels everything with a bold intensity. Because she was brought up to believe that such emotions were a great source of power, she doesn't hold back, and doesn't try to keep clam. However, Nova is also rash and impulsive. She acts without thinking and lets her emotions guide her more than her mind, and she's a poor planner. Beneath her anger and fire, Nova actually has a good heart, though it's something she tries to deny. Deep inside she feels pity and remorse, but because she thinks such feelings are a sign of weakness, she buries them and tries to fight them. Background Father • Rolway Attken, 65, fallen Jedi/jack of all trades or something Mother • Della Grii, 57, Sith Siblings • Filson Attken, 26, Jedi (half brother) Other Important Connections • -- Overall History • Before Nova there was Della Grii: a Jedi who left the Order, fell to the Dark side, took her lover down with her, and quickly moved on what she got what she wanted (a child). However, her mother always refused to talk about anything that happened prior to her birth, so Nova knows none of this. She also doesn't know her father's name, nor that his eyesight was even more impaired than hers, nor that her mother was not his first secret lover, and especially not that she has a half brother somewhere in the galaxy. No, Nova only knows that her mother was a powerful Force user with a strong connection to the Dark side, and she's long since known better than to ask any more prying questions. She was born on Nar Shaddaa, but never had any early memories of the place; she moved around a lot either tagging along her by mother's side or in the care of one of her mother's friends. From the moment she was born, it was clear that her eyes did not work properly, and while cybernetics may have been able to correct the problem, her mother refused to seek any kind of treatment. She knew in her heart that her child was Force sensitive, and she hoped that having low vision would require her daughter to forge a stronger connection to the Force. Della saw Nova more of a pet project and less of a child. While she could still have moments of warmth and motherly kindness, she was less interested in being a loving parent and more interested in shaping her daughter into the person she wanted her to be. Nova was encouraged to embrace any anger and hatred she felt and to crave power. Nothing less than perfection was acceptable. Her mother taught her to use the Force to see, basic telekinetic abilities, and basic combat techniques. Nova was also spoon fed her mother's critical opinions of the Jedi Order and the Republic. However, Nova found that the happiest moments of her childhood were those spent away from her mother. Della had a handful of friends she trusted to watch her child, and Nova was passed off to one or another of them if her mother was too busy or doing something to dangerous and risky to have a young child tagging along. With some of her mother's friends she found more love and encouragement, and all of them were much less strict. It was then that she could truly enjoy childhood and be herself, and she often dreaded returning to her mother's side. As the Sith Empire began to gain power, it was clear that this would be the best path for Nova to refine her talent in the Force and find power within the galaxy, so at the age of eighteen she left home for Korriban. She had a slight head start on learning how to use the Force: partly from learning how to get around with limited use of her eyes and partly from direct instruction from her mother. When she began to train as an initiate, she found herself well served by her early advantages, her burning desire to succeed, and her and fiery personality, and though she was weaker in the lightsaber combat, she made up for it with how well she could use the destructive nature of the Force as a weapon. However, she also found training to be emotionally taxing. She pitied those who could not endure the vigors, and she felt the burden of guilt if her actions caused a fellow initiate to suffer, but she would never dare admit it. Nova always managed to convince herself that emotional discomfort was a small price to pay for giving herself an advantage, some kind of a test of willpower that would make her stronger in the end. In time, Nova proved herself to have great potential and caught the attention of Lord Vircet, and he chose her to be his apprentice. Since she has studied under him, Nova has seen more of the galaxy than she was able to with her mother and her insular group of friends, and she's been exposed to more philosophies that directly oppose what she was brought up to believe...sometimes they even make sense. Those weaker emotions that she has always tried so hard to bury keep trying to come back out, yet at the same time as she grows in her skill in using the Force and has begun to crave more power, but she's unsure if she's willing to do what it takes to seize it. |
