Aran Coehoorn Full Name • Aran Coehoorn Nicknames Comrade Nexxu Race • Human Birthplace • Onderon Age • 36 Gender • Male Sexuality • Hetero Faction • Fringe Concept • Level III insurgent guerrilla Languages • Galactic Basic, Mando’a Assets • Appearance Face Claim • Rodrigo Santoro Height & Weight • 6’ & 180 lbs Overall Looks • The years spent in the wildernesses of Onderon evading and ambushing Mandalorian patrols have given this tall man a hardened outdoorsman's physique. His apparel usually reflects the situation Aran's life is at the moment; practical, sturdy clothes in natural colors or outright camouflage with a bandoleer or two slung over his shoulders. As living on the run leaves little time for personal grooming, Aran often sports a beard or at least a stubborn stubble. His dark hair he usually keeps slightly longer. Personality Profile There are those to whom the fight against the Mandalorian occupation is a war to restore Onderon to its former glory. Aran is very much not one of them. Rabidly republican in his mindset Aran treats the war of resistance as the first step in an exhaustive revolution, designed to smash the chains of oppression that are perpetrated by the antiquated, archaic and inherently conservative system that is monarchy. Anyone suggesting bringing back the Onderan monarchy in his presence, even with democratic reforms, will have their head bitten off by Aran. Compromise is naught but a backdoor for the forces of the Reaction to exploit. Neither is Aran on to remain silent. He will express his opinions and thoughts and will do so loud and clear. Nor will he hide behind masks or other disguises in battle or when delivering messages to the enemy. One usually knows where they stand with him. Combined with zealousness and uncompromising nature, Aran is not always an easy man to get along on a personal level. However, he has a knack for propaganda and agitation and most people usually find themselves at least listening to him, even if they do not agree with him. Towards his comrades Aran is a caring and attentive leader. His door is always open and he does his best to ensure their survival. However, he is ultimately willing to sacrifice each and every one of them if doing so ensures the victory for the cause. Against the enemy, Aran is however completely without mercy. No target is off limit, no stratagem too cruel nor any act too heinous. In his opinion the only plot of land the Mandalorians are allowed to hold on Onderon’s soil is in a graveyard. Background Father • Beran Coehoorn, Trade Union leader, deceased Mother • Dereen Shiloc, Journalist, decased Other Important Connections • Overall History • A quiet life was never really an option for Aran. As a child of passionate journalist and an active Trade Unionist he grew up in a family seeped in politics and activism. Both of his parents were not afraid to rock the boat to champion the cause of the little people against the might of the status quo and imprinted this same attitude into their son. Thus, whence it came time for Aran to choose a career he decided to follow in his parents' footsteps and sought a degree in journalism on Coruscant. Aran's time on Coruscant did nothing to quell the fire burning inside him. On the contrary; he quickly gravitated into the politically active circles of the student body and more than once found himself spending a night or two in jail following a demonstration gotten out of hand. However, instead of deterring him these clashes with the forces of the status quo merely emboldened Aran's conviction in the cause and every mark on his criminal record was a badge of honor to him. By the time he graduated and returned on Onderon Aran was already tagged as a potential troublemaker by the planet's authorities and placed under light surveillance. If Aran noticed, he didn't care on whit. Almost on the same day as the ship carrying him back to Onderon landed he was employed with a news agency known for its belligerent criticism of Onderon's various political institutions with a special hatred for its monarchy. He became one of their star contributors in a rapid fashion and cemented the state's dislike of him by regularly dancing on the edge of, or outright charging into, violating the various lése-majeste and libel laws protecting the government and the monarchy. However, before any significant actions could be taken against him by the government the war with the Sith Empire broke out, throwing the galaxy into chaos. The war also gave Aran another target to rail against. As much as he despised the stagnant status quo on Onderon, the reactionary tyranny of the Empire and the barabarism of its Manadalorian allies fed his disdain even more. He spent the early war writing in support of Republic's war effort and even considered applying to become a war correspondent. The war reached Onderon before he had a chance to do so. The Mandalorian invasion and occupation saw both of Aran's parents dead. It saw many of his friends dead too. It saw his hometown reduced to a heap of rubble and his people subjected to the whims of foreign barbarians. Amidst all that chaos something in Aran snapped. Soon he had killed his first invader, crystallizing his new purpose in life; he wouldn't rest until Onderon was free of the invaders' yoke and free of the spineless kings and lords who'd too long lived large off of the people's backs. Over the following years he taught himself with the necessary skills to fight a guerrilla campaign, established a regional network of like-minded would be freedom fighters and revolutionaries and established a number of devices for distributing propaganda to the Onderan people. |
