Character Name Full Name • Yanalina Steren Nickname • Yanna Race • Human Birthplace • Teth Age • 32 Gender • Female Sexuality • Extremely inexperienced. Likely heterosexual, possibly bisexual Faction • Fringe Concept • Rank 2 Awkward Mechanic Languages • Basic, Huttese (understood), Nimbanese (basic understanding), Droidspeak (understood) Assets • The clothes on her back, random assortment of tools in various states of working order, a T3 model utility droid. Appearance Face Claim • Kate Mara Height & Weight • 5'2" 130 lbs. Overall Looks • Short and trim, Yanna has honey brown hair that she usually keeps at shoulder length and tied back so as not to be in her way. Her face is comprised of somewhat sharp lines, a fairly square jaw, a wide mouth, and eyes that match the color of her hair almost exactly. Her hands are agile, often covered in grease, and crossed by small cuts and scars from her work as a mechanic. Yanna has few clothes, all of which must be able to fit under a jumpsuit or coveralls. She prefers practical clothes. Nothing flashy. If it can't get dirty, she doesn't bother. It's been ages since she's worn anything "fancy" and she's not keen to fall back into the habit any time soon. Personality Profile Yanna rarely misses a detail. Her eyes can catch the slightest change to anything she sees. This does not mean she's overly good at processing that information, however. If it's related to machines, or objects, Yanna can work it out, but if those slight changes are at all related to body language or facial expression... fat chance. Yanna's self conscious nature and social anxiety can be near crippling at times. She can see the slightest changes in people, but has absolutely no idea of how to interpret those changes. This usually results in her assuming she's messed up in some way. Long story short, she's not a people person. Her discerning eye has also made her an excellent artist. She can draw or paint incredible recreations of people, objects, or scenes from memory, though she's been told her art lacks soul. Machines, on the other hand, Yanna understands. They're predictable and safe. If given the chance, she'd disappear into a mountain of engines, computers, and droids and never interact with another person ever again. When forced to interact with other people, Yanna relies on the "less is more" mindset and tries not to have to be the one talking too much. If caught off guard, however, she is sometimes prone to gushing about her passions. This will usually end in total embarrassment and flight to any refuge she can find. Yanna has something of an affinity with small animals, finding their silent companionship comforting. Had she not resembled both her parents so closely, she would have sworn she was swapped at birth with another child in the same hospital. The Steren family was known on Teth and throughout Hutt space as fine purveyors of luxury and relaxation. The Steren Resort on Teth was consistently ranked among the most luxurious and sought after retreats on the leisure world. Whats more, the Sterens somehow managed to do it all without getting their hands too dirty in the business of the Hutt Cartels. Indeed, their resort's commitment to luxury and relaxation made it something of a neutral ground for the often at odds Hutt families. Aaro and Jara's first child, Ronen, proved to be cut from the same cloth as his parents. He grew to be a charming young man, effortlessly ingratiating himself to the wealthy and powerful guests of the resort from a young age. His smile could light up a room, and he could always make the guests laugh. Their second child, Yanna, was not so gifted. She abhorred social interaction... feared it, even. The sight of a room full of people could easily throw the girl into hysterical crying and leave her shaken for days. After a while, her parents gave up trying to push her into their world. Instead, they did what they could to help her build her own. In this, at least, they were good parents. They always provided for and encouraged Yanna, even if she was a mystery to them. They loved her, and she them, but outward displays of affection were not common. There was one form of interaction, however, that Yanna did seem to enjoy. She loved animals, and was quite good with handling them. The resort kept a good number of semi-domesticated creatures for scenery, and all were fond of the girl. Her favorite, however, was a gift her parents never intended to purchase for her. A prominent exotic pets trader had been staying at the resort and had allowed the Steren children to see the animals he had with him at the time and to select a pet. Ronen chose a Tooka, to his parent's relief. But Yanna had been immediately smitten by a fwit. Her parents and brother declared it a ghastly thing. The ugliest creature they'd ever seen. And it was viscous, to boot. But it had somehow taken an immediate liking to Yanna, and the two were inseparable ever since. Yanna, sheltered from the terrifying world of social interaction, spent her formative years learning about the things she did understand. All things mechanical fascinated the girl, and she absorbed whatever information she could find. From a young age, she tinkered. She could take apart a small service droid by age five, and had learned to put it all back together correctly a year later. Her schooling, mostly private tutors, revolved around these obvious strengths. By the time she was ready to go on to higher education, Yanna had reprogrammed every droid in the the resort at least once. Usually, these tweaks were for improved performance. Once or twice, she'd programmed a droid to drop food on her brother, or to "accidentally" perform other pranks. Yanna went away to Nimban for university. She didn’t need the money, but had been awarded a scholarship through the Hoersch-Kessel Drive Company to complete a post-grad and internship program in their R&D department. Buried in manuals and engine parts... those were the happiest years of her life. Her performance after finishing the program, however, proved inadequate for what the company was seeking. They were not willing to bankroll someone who could not competently present the benefits of her projects. Yanna returned to Teth, promptly disappearing into a self-imposed solitude while she attempted to “figure out her life”. This became a two-year hermitage that produced no real answers. In an effort to help his sister, Ronen insisted she come to Prazhi. As a new galactic hub, it would certainly prove a better place to find her next venture than Teth. His insistence saved her life. The strange illness that swept over Teth had been developing as she prepared to leave. Her transport was one of the last known to make it off planet before the true horrors began. Paranoia of what would come to be known as the Archeri Plague saw her ship stopped and quarantined on Nar Shaddaa. But the plague was not contained. It seemed all of Hutt space, and the galaxy itself would surely fall. Yanna managed to get herself into a transport to Circumtore before the Battle of Nar Shaddaa, but has reached the end of her cash reserved. With all of Hutt space in shambles and her own family’s claim to any type of fortune destroyed, Yanna is all but destitute. She has, as yet, been unable to contact her brother and is beginning to fear the worst. |
