She was tired, dirty, hot, and now she had absolute mountains of paperwork. Her blue and silver coat hung open revealing a skin tight black shirt. Her hair was pulled back, though a few pieces had found their way out of the ponytail in her quest to retrieve anything of use from the former grounds of the base. However, it was not her day. Again. Nothing was to be found, not even a trace of the bomb itself.
The major had decided it was best for her to live in various places of late, not bunking with the remains of the base personnel, just in case. This week she had found herself staying in one of the transports the army held here on Manaan. It was fairly comfortable, and had enough security systems for her to feel relatively comfortable in her information of the area around it. Not to mention, it was difficult to gain access to the area it was held in.
Upon reaching the transport, she immediately sat down at her computer and pulled up a list of the 'usual suspects' before pulling over one of the piles of papers she had yet to read through and fill out in regards to the explosion. With one hand busy with the computer, and the other with the papers, it wasn't surprising that she swiftly found herself the new owner of a badly stinging papercut.

Vex hadn't sat on her bed. There were certain rules of etiquette that he kept close in mind, even as he bent or outright broke others that didn't suit him. He'd stayed there in idle meditation in one corner of that shuttle sleeping quarters. There really wasn't much space to be hand...but in the initial dim light, he trusted that her self-evident workaholism and expected security would have her completely miss him.
He'd drawn in his presence in the Force...a trick he often used against other Force Wielders, especially Jedi, so they couldn't spot his talent. Cutting it off from her minor link's sense was not difficult. He was not disappointed when she came in and immediately moved to her desk, already trying to multitask.
As she gashed her finger with that paper, he "tsked" lightly and spoke up.
"Careful, Aunna...I do not not think that 'Death by Papercut' would make a good epitaph."

Yelping slightly, she leapt up, her hand automatically reaching for her spear, but as she caught sight of him, she simply glared for a moment before sitting down once more. If he'd not just scared the daylights out of her, she might have actually laughed at his comment. To bad for him.
Are you trying to scare me to death Vex? Honestly. If it isn't bad enough to just be here, you up and say something sarcastic.
She wasn't angry...not really...but she was flustered now, and that got the better of her. Even though Aunna wanted to give him a proper scolding, she decided it was best for all if she just tried to keep a sense of humor about the situation. Sighing, she motioned for him to have a seat on the bed. Since he was here, he might as well be treated as a guest. Her largest problem now...she was quite conscious of the fact that her face and hands were more than likely smudged with dirt. Oh well...he'd been the one to enter uninvited, he'd just have to live with it.
Sorry for my appearance, but as I'm sure you know, I've been working at the base grounds today.
Well, at least now Aunna couldn't say she hadn't apologized for her appearance.
What brings you here today Vex?
The major still hadn't quite come out of her 'shell' yet, but she certainly appeared more relaxed, not even bothering to button her coat up again...quite the opposite actually, as she took it off and lay it across the back of the seat she was on. A silver chain hung around her neck with various charms on it, one a silver set of angel wings, another something that looked like a lion's head at the top and a cross at the bottom, her dog tags, and a small silver badge. Glancing at her finger, she was pleased to notice it wasn't bleeding, so she payed it little attention, even though it stung.

"Pity, I was attempting for humor, not sarcasm. They say humor can relieve stress...something you certainly seem to be drowning in. As for your appearance...I might be nonplussed if I was to take you to the Senator's Gala, but as I am not...how you look is of little interest to me."
He was rather surprised that she seemed so preoccupied with her appearance. Given how he had seen her during their encounters...from beaten to bloody...one would think that she would have given up caring how she looked, at least around him. Dark eyes flowed up her form like a cool wave as she took off that jacket and set it aside. He regarded that chain with its many odd trinkets that rested alongside her standard issue identification takes.
"I was curious as to whether you had made any headway into who bombed your base. I would like to speak with them....in private.
As he'd spoke, he'd reached up and removed that breather unit once more. When that last sentence came through, the thin smile on his lips was bloodless and disconcerting. Clearly...it was to be a conversation the other party would not like in the slightest.

Aunna sighed and shook her head, chuckling slightly afterward. Her statement obviously didn't make a difference to him, and she was fine with that. Either way, it made her feel better. At his next question and statement, however, she wasn't quite so eager to make any kind of motion. She had a few guesses, but no certainties, and no immediate reason as to why they might have wanted her dead.....unless someone held a VERY long grudge.
I have a few possibilities, but they're no more than speculation. I have quite a list of people who it MIGHT be, and a longer one of people who simply want me dead. I'm still filtering through the list and trying to find the ones who have the means and the ability to pull something like that off....
So far....
Aunna paused, looking at the screen before she blinked a few times as if seeing something new. Her hands went lightly to the edge of the desk as she looked at the screen and gripped, some of the blood draining from her face. She knew. At that moment, she knew.
Vorlax....Samael Vorlax. A dark jedi...not a particularly well trained one...and jack of all trades. She'd caught him once for smuggling weapons to the sith and other anti-republic factions while in the middle of a skirmish with the sith army, but he'd gotten off free somehow. She'd never forget his threat on her life when she'd caught him and turned him in for trial, and he'd arrived on Manaan only a day after she had.....and hadn't left.
A man named Samael Vorlax.
The major said quietly, as if even saying his name might make him appear in the small cabin.

Vex watched her expression changed...eyeing the stiffening of her posture and the way she gripped the edge of the desk. The surprise had already drained much of her color from her, but that grip had her knuckles bone white as she looked to the screen and noted the discrepancy that she'd missed before. When she finally spoke her suspicions he was surprised. She almost seemed to quaver slightly, reluctant to say the man's name.
Now, Vex didn't know the man...it wasn't really a surprise. There wasn't a charter for the Dark Jedi...they didn't often get together and make social calls. Vex did even less than most. He purposefully distanced himself from his fellow "Dark Siders" and as she had seen already, had no qualms in killing them if they got in his way. He was pretty agreeable to killing anyone that got in his way, but other Dark Jedi were a special case. Many times they sought to try and undermine him or coerce him into their plots and plans.
While he may have bee categorized with them, the man held no affinity or trust for them. To him, they were as unappealing as the Order he'd once served. If they had useful information, he'd rip it from their minds and then leave them to rot...and that was about the extent of things.
Vex walked oer to her, drawing out a hand to rest on her back to reassure her. It slipped up beneath her hair, resting lightly just below her nape as he leaned forward to look at the screan she read.
"You speak as though you've seen a ghost, Aunna Borgonia. You and I both know that I'm the only real boogey monster in Ahto City..."

Normally I would laugh at that Vex, but....this is no time to laugh. I have seen a ghost of sorts....and most certainly one I never wished to see again, unlike you.
She stated, not even thinking about the last part of her statement. Aunna had noticed his hand at the back of her neck, but it didn't bother her in the slightest as he leaned forward to read the screen. Brining up the information on Samael...Vorlax as she called him...the man's history was brought up.
Samael Vorlax
Species: Twilek (blue) Age: 39 Height: 6' 1" Weight: 180 lbs Eyes: Grey Planet of Birth: Tattooine
Records:
Samael joined Jedi faction age 3. Released age 12 due to lack of training, consistent lying, penchant for causing trouble, and fighting fellow students.
No records until age 20 when detained by Coruscant Security Forces for spice dealing. Later released for 'good behavior'.
No records until age 23 when detained by Tralus Security Forces for suspected murder of Tralus security captain and Senator of Naboo. Charged released due to lack of evidence.
No records until age 29 when detained by Republic Navy Commander Jade Borgonia for smuggling weapons en route to outter rim. Released Coruscant Prison. Bail payed.
No records until age 33 when detained by Republic Army Captain Aunna Borgonia for smuggling weapons to Anti-Republic faction during Sith Army skirmish, Mygeeto. --Note: Threats from detainee reported en route to Coruscant. Several witnesses report threats to Major Borgonia from Vorlax. Questioning resulted in physical fight, followed by threats of murder and rape.---end note. Charges of Smuggling Weapons: dropped due to lack of evidence. Charges of Striking a Military Officer: dropped. Charges of Sexual Harassment: dropped. Charges of Verbal Harassment: dropped. Charges of Threats Against Military Officer: dropped. Samael Vorlax released.
No records to date.
Reading over the information herself, she knew there was a great deal missing from it simply because he'd not been caught...he would be what, 39 by now? Yes. Shuddering slightly as she remembered the threats he'd made, she turned her head to the door of the cabin. Something was going on, but what? As if on cue the sensor alarms went off and she jumped. Taking a breath, she stood and put a hand on her spear once more as she picked it up. Turning to Vex, she looked fully into his eyes.
That's him. I'm almost certain of it. I doubt he knows your here.
She said quietly, keeping her wits about her as best she could.
We should keep it that way until we know for certain....
I need to turn the alarms off, but I'll keep the door open. I trust you can stay hidden enough and still keep an eye on me?
She asked, forming a plan, and hoping he'd agree with it. She wanted him captured this time.
There's a security camera I can activate. If I can catch him on it, I can turn him in for good this time...but....I need your help.
Obviously he wants me. I'll be good enough bait to lure him out, and he's cocky enough to attack me without thinking...I need you to be there when he does....
Aunna paused wetting her lips slightly as she thought over her plan. Just how much did she honestly trust Vex? Could she trust him to be there when she needed him to be? Yes. He'd already proven that.
...I don't feel like dying today, and who knows what he'll try.
She ended. Her heart was racing at what seemed like hyperspeed. Aunna was certain that Vex could feel the complete fear that was radiating off her at the appearance of this man, despite this, she stubbornly suppressed the feeling.
Will this work Vex? And if it will....can I trust you to your part?
---Please don't let me be wrong in my trust.---
Aunna thought, uncertain if he would catch it or not. There was a slight rustle from outside, and she looked once more at the door as if expecting the man to jump through it at any moment as she subconsciously moved closer to Vex as if for some kind of protection.
---Honestly...given the choice....I'd rather Vex kill me than Samael.---
The thought lanced through her mind and she sighed, continuing to focus on suppressing her fear of the dark jedi outside.

To say he was a little surprised by the inital slip of her tongue was an understatement. He did not let it show, however, as he looked over the brief synopsis of this man, Vorlax's, life. He seemed quite the interesting sort...and obviously resourceful. He narrowed his eyes, reading over the history of past offenses. He moved back when she was startled by the sudden alarms going off.
Vex had felt the disturbance in the Force, feeling the waves of the man's ill intent come closer. His attention to such things was obvious much more refined than her own. He smirked darkly at her assessment that the man did not know he was here. Vex was very glad that he'd reined in his Force signature and disguised it. It made things much easier. As she spoke, he kept pointedly quiet, his arms coming to cross in front of him as she laid out her idea for him to consider. The waves of her indecision and fear lapped around him like the churning sea, washing up against his stony facade and then slipping away, only to crest against him again.
"You can trust that I will be as I have always been, Aunna, and that I always look out for my interests."
The words were enigmatic, but could easily be taken as an affirmation to her question and concern. He didn't even have to probe her mind in order to catch that stray thought and it amused him to no end. That amusement, however, would be hidden from her view as he drew up his rebreather once more and covered his face once again.
When she drew nearer, unconsciously seeking comfort from him, he reached up, brushing a loose strand of that disheveled hair to the side and tucking it behind her ear.
"Go, Aunna. Tactically, the close quarters of this area favor him. It would be better if you met him someplace more open for movement."

She had heard every word he said, but she didn't know how to decipher all of the meaning behind them. As he brushed a strand of her hair back behind her ear, she jumped slightly at the foreign and unexpected touch. Telling her to go, she nodded, agreeing with his analysis of the situation. Vorlax would have the upper hand in this situation, so she'd have to go outside. Retracting her spear, and putting it on her belt, she disappeared from the room and moments later the alarm was off. The sound of the landing ramp lowering could be heard, followed by the soft thuds of her boots going down it.
For a moment all was quiet as Aunna looked around the docking bay cautiously, her eyes narrowed to slits. Where was he....she knew he was out here somewhere. A soft rustle and a streak of blue to the side of her, and she knew for certain he was here. Another soft rustle of cloth and she spun on the spot, spear in hand, ready to open it, but he was to fast for her. With a gust of wind and power, he collided with her, knocking her to the ground and sending her sprawling and knocking the wind out of her lungs.
Gasping through her still bruised throat, she struggled to gain her feet again, and in an instant he was there, a hand at her throat again, his body pressed against hers. She shuddered slightly in disgust and moved to open her spear. He grabbed it and tossed it from her hand. She balled up a fist and hit the side of his head and he reeled for a moment before pressing harder against her throat before his face came next to hers.
I told you I'd come for you one day, my thorny rose. I told you I'd have you, then kill you. I would have saved you the pain and embarrassment of my true intent...but you refused to just die in that explosion....so I'm afraid you'll just have to live with this.
He cooed into her ear before running a hand down her body. She struggled against him and he pinned her down. She got a limb free, got a good hit, and he'd come back with twice the strength. Vorlax pawed at her clothes and she managed to get her knife out of her boot and cut him slightly, but with that came a new wave of mental bombardment. His mind was hard and unyielding, cruel, cold, dark...terrifying....and he forced it upon her. Where was Vex?!
The camera was running.

Vex had followed her, remaining close to the door and out of sight as she ventured out to face her own personal monster. He kept his sense on the Force open to glean all the information that he could from this new enemy. It was evident that the man was naturally strong in the Force. If he had not been removed from the Academy, Vex held little doubt that the man would have made an exceptionally strong Jedi. Fortunately, the man’s training was incomplete.
Vex assumed that this man had achieved some tutelage under a Dark Side user, but he wasn’t certain how much. The altercation was over quickly. Like him, this one seemed to prefer using the Force to aid his own offensive capabilities. She fought gallantly, but unlike him, this man didn’t give her a chance to prepare.
He had her pinned and disarmed, shrugging off her attempts at defense. Vex waited there in the dark of the open hatch. Her desperation was heightening, but she was the one that had chosen to be the bait. She would have to forgive him if he waited to let the trap close fully so that the Dark Jedi would be fully caught in its jaws.
The more the man focused on her…the less he’d be aware of or able to react to the things around him. So Vex continued to wait.

(nope, she wont like him. lol)
Grunting, she managed to roll him to the side and under her. With the left hand she pinned his neck, a foot pinned an arm, the other knee balancing her. Her right hand struggled against his free hand, but he caught her and she was downed again, her shirt ripping slightly as he grabbed at it. Aunna cursed as her head hit the floor hard, a trickle of blood coming from under her hair, and the new split in her lip. She was now face down on the ground and struggling to get up with only one arm as he held the other pinned behind her.
Letting out a guttural sound, Aunna caught one of his legs with hers and attempted to lay him flat, or at least subdue him, but she was swiftly tiering. Gasping for air as he shoved her face into the ground again, she forced herself upward with all her strength, lifting them both off the ground. In a last ditch effort, she threw herself backward toward the ground, aiming to pin him below her. Luckily it worked...barely. With a satisfying thud, they both hit the duracrete. Struggling to gain her feet once more, she nearly managed it this time, until Samael grabbed the back of her shirt and pushed himself forward, pinning the major between himself and the ground once more.

This was going perfectly, at least for Vex. She was engaging the man brutally, forcing him to put all his concentration on her and not on anything else. He watched, seemingly impassive as she struggled for her very life...the momentum of the struggle teetering between them both. She almost seemed to gain victory, only to be slammed back down to the permacrete again. He saw the blood matting her hair and the split on her lip...the way her shirt had been torn. The camera would have caught that struggle as well, documenting every last second of it.
He would wait, seeing that she was finally losing the last of her fight and he nodded to himself. It was time to act. He let the Force fill him, allowing it to sear through his veins like fire and energize him for what was to come. He did not simply move, he launched himself forward with the Force giving him that blinding speed and alacrity. He hit the man from the front...appearing there, so it would seem, and launching out with his boot.
The blow would catch Vorlax in the chest as leaned over her in apparent victory, knocking him back across the ground. Vex released his hold on his Force signature as he stood over Aunna. The waves of it radiated from him, a dark, malevolent chill that seemed to drain hope and will. Insidious tendrils of it seemed to bind around everyone else, insistent in its mental drain upon their defenses. The senses would seem to recoil as he let the other man know exactly what sort of being Vex was...and just what he was going to be facing.
"Enough foreplay, Samael Vorlax. Don't you agree?"
He left his hands loosely at his sides, effecting a nonchalant and supremely confident, even arrogant stance as he waited for the man to pick himself up.

((gah, you make things so difficult Vex. honestly.))
As she struggled to keep herself from harm, she knew it was futile. It looked like Vex hid his intentions to the last...until he was there, suddenly, and Vorlax's weight was gone from her back. Rolling away, she scrambled to her feet, coughing as she gasped to regain the air she had lost. As she stood there it was as if a veil was lifted from around Vex, dark feelings and thoughts surrounding the air around him, and tinting the light with blood reds and blacks. Backing away, it was all Aunna could do not to bolt from the area...and had she been anyone else, she might have. The major, however, rooted herself to the spot, nursing the bruise and cut around her hairline as she wondered what would happen next.
Vorlax had been surprised by the sudden blow to say the least. The woman had infuriated him, and worn him down, but she was worth it...or she had been until this new man arrived on the scene. Having sprawled backward at the boot to the chest, he picked himself up feeling the dark energy ripple from the man before him. Blinking, he wondered who the newcomer was, and if he was already trying to manipulate HIS 'thorny rose'. Glaring at Vex, Samael, slowly withdrew his lightsaber.
Don't get involved. I have no argument with you.

“I’m already involved. The woman is of interest to me. You are threatening that interest. Therefore, you will be dealt with.”
Vex let his cloak slip from his shoulders, pooling like a shadow around his feet before he stepped forward. Beneath was revealed that lighter, gray padded suit. Around his middle, the lights on his cybernetics blinked as they monitored his good health. Vex was not a small man, his height and size was physically imposing and the cybernetics seemed to make him detached from humanity. Those black eyes were as dead and unemotional as any droid’s as he moved towards the man with slow, measured steps. Those pale, predatory features were framed by his long, straight black hair.
Drawing one of his lightsabers, he activated in time with Samael’s, both sizzling to lethal light, violet versus crimson. Sliding his foot back, Vex braced himself and then pushed off, the two Jedi coming together in a crash of lightning and the stink of ozone as their sabers crossed.
Vex pressed forward even as he comfortably ensconced himself in that defensive form of Soresu. He kept his movements close to his body, letting the man attack in a harsh but futile manner. Both had drawn upon the Force to accelerate their responses and attacks. Unlike Aunna, however, Vex could control that use and the man did not have the favor of a surprise attack. Nevertheless, the display as the two fought was extraordinary.
She had missed the battle against the three Dark Jedi, having been unable to walk unassisted for very far due to the injury to her leg. Vorlax used all of the known Jedi tricks against Vex, augmenting his fighting prowess with acrobatic, Force-assisted offensives. While Vex moved continuously, his lack of such displays was noticeable. A duck and roll was given to those aerial attacks.
Growing frustrated, Samael feinted, using the Force to push Vex back and launching himself forward to capitalize. Vex was launched back, hitting the ground with a roll. Coming to a stop on his back, he looked up to see Samael coming down with his lightsaber for Vex's head. That lightsaber was brought up, barely in time to block the blow.
Samael had landed on his feet, straddling Vex's body. Pushing against that blade that crackled so close to his face, Vex kicked up, knocking the man up and over him and ending the threat for the moment. Both regained their footing...staring at each other for a moment and then attacking once more.
Vex changed his tactics once more. He leaned and ducked...she would see the blades cross and then, as he ducked just before, the violet blade flickering out so the other could pass through harmlessly and then came back to life. This continued off and on...even she could see Vex's intent as the frustration mounted on Vorlax's features. It almost seemed a cat and mouse game, her Jedi teasing him by allowing the near misses, the swings that whispered millimeters from him and away harmlessly.
In his anger, her tormentor began to choreograph his moves more and more, finally stepping back to throw another wave of the Force. This time, Vex had anticipated and sidestepped, ducking low. There was a moment where Vex's second blade flickered into view as he spun about and then it disappeared.
Samael's scream of pain lingered, however.
That brief flicker had been his second blade passing through Samael's Achilles' tendons as Vex went around and behind. No longer able to keep himself standing, the crippled Dark Jedi toppled back and Vex followed up his move by sweeping that violet blade back around, slicing the man's lightsaber hilt in half.
He took his fingers with it.
Impassively, Vex looked down at the man, his lightsaber pointed at the man's chest to deter any more acts of stupidity.

Aunna stood back, out of the way of the immediate fight. It didn't take long though, until it neared her once more. Side stepping, she barely would manage to duck out of the way of the roiling battle. This was NOT something she wanted ANY part of. One just did NOT include themselves in battle between force users, unless one was a force user them self....she was decidedly not. Backing up the ramp, once she was finally able to get to it, she grabbed a rifle from inside the ship, then returned to survey the battle. It was, in some perverted way, much like a dance. A series of practiced movements that flowed together and then apart and back together...except there were deadly weapons and lives involved.
Aunna was both surprised and decidedly not surprised at the way Vex toyed with Vorlax. She noted both men's tactics swiftly and then continued to absorb the information the fight brought her. For a moment, she saw Vex lose the upper hand, being pushed backward and Vorlax, until their sabers locked just above Vex's face. Bringing the rifle up, she took aim, ready to kill Vorlax, but the moment passed and Vex once again had the upper hand. Lowering the rifle, she continued to watch until Vorlax had been immobilized, and disarmed...well, more like dis-fingered and de-light sabered. Pressing a button, she cut the camera recording and stepped out of the ship once more.
Rifle still in hand she walked over to the two men and looked from Vex, then down to a whimpering Samael. Narrowing her eyes, she had the distinct urge to shoot the man, but ignored it. No, she'd leave him alive for now...though...something told her it would be better to just kill him. Pushing these thoughts aside, Aunna shook her head.
I'll call the MP's...it should take them about 5 minutes to get her. Be inside the ship by then unless you feel like getting caught also.
As for you Vorlax....you're under arrest. Again.
Pulling out a com link, she proceeded to contact the military police. Turning to look up at Vex, she wondered how to thank him. She didn't want Vorlax knowing anything. With that thought, she took the butt of the rifle and knocked him out.
Thank you Vex. You've helped me quite a bit today.
She sighed heavily, touching the bruised cut at her hairline.
That's the third time you've saved my life. Are you certain you aren't still a jedi?
It was a simple enough joke, and it was a high compliment from her...especially for someone she'd tried to kill not more than a month and a half ago. Looking up at the sound of feet rushing toward them, she motioned toward the ship with a nod of her head.
It didn't take long for the MP's to collect the still unconscious Vorlax and the video Aunna had surreptitiously recorded onto two small chips, instead of the transports memory bank. Handing them on chip, she returned to the transport, having already hidden the other away, and closed the boarding ramp once more.
((Just kidding. have to stay awake now due to jury sumons))

"Do not insult me, Aunna. If those men tried to apprehend me...they would wind up dead and you would wind up with a moral dilemma."
Vex extinguished his lightsaber and clipped it back to his belt. Kneeling down, he rested his fingertips on Samael's temples, closing his eyes for a moment. All that she would see is the man's eyes open wide, mouth forming an "0" of fright and pain but not making a sound as his body grew rigid. Vex pushed his will in, slicing out the man's defenses, weakened as they were by the physical pain. He was quick, stripping some things while adding a few things that were his own interest.
When he finally pulled his hands away, Samael relaxed and seemed to pass out cold. He heard her words, but ignored them for a moment, walking over to recover his cloak. He drew it on and headed for the ramp, stopping to look at her.
"I did what was best for my own interests, Aunna. You know this. I would caution you not to misconstrue practicality with altruistic intentions. I feel no compulsion about doing 'what is right'. Only what is necessary."
On that note, he moved up the ramp and disappeared inside, just before the military police arrived. He would be there, sitting in the chair to her desk when she was finished.

Sighing, she leaned against the bulkhead, resting a cold hand against her now completely bruised throat. Vex had a point, and Aunna knew she was blurring the line between his world and hers. His was dark, hers was light...it always had been and always would be....and it was best that she cut the ties now. But how? Disconcerted, she slid down the wall slightly until she was in a crouched position, her head throbbing painfully in her hands. She was stressed and she needed to think...but it wasn't easy with a job like hers to get enough of a break to sort your thoughts out. Then it hit her...she wasn't alone.
Standing once more, she calmed herself and proceeded to the small cabin. As she entered, she folded her arms across her chest and watched him like an eagle watching its prey, her head moving to one side or the other slightly as she analyzed him.
Well Vex, with your interests secured, your interest would like to know what you have planed for her...at least in part.
Aunna had a predatory look about her. One she rarely got, because she was rarely in such a mood. Her eyes glinted slightly as she leaned with a casual, and almost lethal, grace against the wall. Tilting her head to the side, she blinked at him a few times.
Your...interest...does not take being manipulated lightly, but if she will be, than she at least has the right to know something about what she will be doing.
The major was making a deal with the devil and she knew it.

After she spoke, he stared at her for a long time with those pitch black eyes. The silence between them stretched out to an uncomfortable length before he reached up, removing that mask once more. Then he laughed.
This was a full, deep and heartfelt laughter, the mirth bubbling up from some center of him. In that moment, assuming her pride wasn't too incensed by his actions, she might have been able to see the man that he had once been, the one that had died the day he'd been disfigured so. Enery Winsliyn. Only after length did he calm himself. Wiping tears from his eyes, and composing himself, he spoke. As he did so, that dark mantle spread over his shoulders once more and the man she knew, the Dark Jedi that was both her blessing and curse, returned. Vex Praetor.
"Have you seriously been offended by me being honest? You've known from the day we met on Coruscant that I had an interest in you being able to help me. Since then, I have never tried to pretend otherwise. If you suddenly realize this only now, it is not my fault, Aunna."
He stood up, pacing toward her as she leaned there against the wall, gazing at him like some bird of prey. He pressed his palm to the wall near the side of her head, leaning in close, leveling his eyes with her own and staying mere inches apart. When he spoke again, he did so slowly.
"You know people....people of influence...people that may be able to help me gain entrance to the Jedi Temple and retrieve what I need to heal myself. I told you that once before, but you were too busy trying to lecture me and getting yourself almost killed. How, exactly, did I manage to offend you, Aunna? What is the cause of this...now?"

As she ended her little speech, Vex pulled off the mask and laughed. The bloody man laughed until he cried! Now more aggravated than ever, Aunna didn't know whether to laugh with him because he seemed...normal...for once, or be extremely angry. She stood there vacillatingly between the two until he calmed himself. How...how did he manage to keep that part of him hidden? That was what she had seen before...that light....that goodness....that's what she had blurred her clearly defined line for nearly a month back in that stupid dive bar.
Honesty, yes, perhaps he had been honest with her, and that was what had really angered her. His 'honesty'. She glared right back at him, staring into those coal black eyes...eyes that she knew...she KNEW held some kind of good still locked behind them. Shaking with fury, or frustration, or something else entirely, she wasn't sure...Aunna decided to tell him the truth.
Yes. You did offend me...and worse. I had thought...no...I had seen, if only for a few moments...that you weren't truly the monster you act like.
I ignored what I knew was light and what a knew dark...and why? To try and understand you better...to try and allow myself to help you....but for what? To have that light I saw be proven to be nothing but a lie?! To have that hope that maybe I would be helping someone...right or wrong...to get something they needed, and have it thrown in my face?! To have you....
Aunna paused, not certain how to continue, she was so full of anger and hurt.
To have you act the part, and only to throw my good intentions in my face....
Next time Vex...lie to me...lie to me and keep lying because that light I saw that day in the swoop bar...that's why I defended you. It's the same thing I saw just now as you laughed at me....something good...something...worth doing an evil deed for....
By this time tears had come to her eyes and it was all she could do to keep from crying completely.
Next time...just lie....or kill me.
She stated simply, her voice low with emotion as she turned away from him.

Vex looked, to be perfectly honest, vexed by the adamant diatribe that she railed at him. He tilted his head as he tried to understand just what it was that was offending her so. He'd never been anything but honest, to a point. He didn't even truly understand everything and there were points that he deluded even himself about. Perhaps that was some of what she saw...some of the reason for the monster that he made himself out to be. Her hurt...the deep rift of pain that he felt in her, he did not understand. Given how he had been found, he'd never been one to grow attached to people readily. Indeed, that was a trait that the Jedi preferred. Attachments lead to complications and complications lead to the darkside.
So he did not understand how his intentions or desires for her help would hurt her. He didn't have a lot of experience in any type of relationships. After his fall, his only ones were those that were beneficial to him and his ends. Once they were no longer viable for him, they were discarded and he moved on. He couldn't conceive anything more because of what he was. No one would wish for more than that...than doing what was needed to get him out of their existence. That was his belief, anyway.
"What part is it you think I have acted, Aunna? Is it truly something I had done, or simply a trait you thought you saw and attributed to me? How is my honesty worse than a lie...and what lie, praytell, would you prefer I told?"
Just because someone could read your mind didn't mean they could understand you...that was evident now.
"Is what I want truly evil...I ask for no death...no one to be hurt. All I want is the chance to heal. Sometimes, bad things happen for good reasons...and, occasionally, good things happen for bad reasons. The universe is not as black and white as you might wish, Aunna."
