Doctor: You can speak here son, no one is going to hurt you.
Boy: *rough cracking voice* Back hurts... hungry.
Doctor: Hungry? Well if you do as I say I will see that you get something to eat, okay?
Boy: O...okay.
Doctor: Good, uh, ahem... good. Okay son, for ease I'll call you... *pause* forty-four for this session. Is that clear forty-four?
44: B-but you... Y-yes.

*cuts him off*
Doctor: Yes yes, you said that already. Anything else?
44: *whimper* I feel like I'm getting more stronger... my hitting every few days is g-getting easier. Th-the things on my back are bigger than they used to be... and... *sniffle*
Doctor: And?
44: Nu... nuthin... I c-can't sleep. Scary pictures...
Doctor: Those are nightmares forty-four. What are these nightmares of?
44: M-monsters. Scary monsters. Th-they look l-like big p-people but no head... holes...
*silence*
Doctor: They are called eyes, forty-four. Eyes *pause*, nose *pause* and mouth. *pause* Anything else? No, wait. Start from the beginning. Tell about the whole thing.
44: Nightmare... *pause* I'm in... a room. One m-much bigger than the light room. I can't s-see any walls, inside roof, and the floor is a way down. The things on my back are m-moving and I'm... uh, in air. Then I... I not in air no more. I'm falling. Then I see monsters... below. M-monsters with no face ho... n-nose, mouth, or eyes. They scary.
Doctor: I see. Do you ever see monsters anywhere else? When you aren't sleeping?
44: Y... yes. When I running. I see in f-front of me. They running too.
Doctor: *sigh* That's you, forty-four. You are seeing your reflection on the glass. Moving on, do you ever get angry with the others? The other ones like you? Do you ever think about making others *pause* stop moving?
44: N-no... others do. Shiny thinking about not moving... Reddy hit Thin before. Thin not moving... Red f-fuzzy... a monster?
Doctor: Don't worry, no monsters are going to hurt you. Are there any other scary monsters? Any, say, in this room?
44: I... y-y-yes. No in here... Hitting.... green skin. They are hitting other like me with... thin flat thing... that thing. Other little like me. On thing... D-doctor *static*.
*silence*
Doctor: Enough! That's our... session for today. Guard!
*door opening, whimpering and footsteps.*
Doctor: *lowered voice* He was assuredly negative for the Big F test, right?
Third Voice: Yeah, how did *garbled, static* about that?
Doctor: It doesn't matter. Sedate him tonight, no meals until tomorrow. That ought to set him right. Also, rework his activities to deny him interaction with other subjects. It seems he might be more receptive to the genetic modification than forty-three or forty-five. My professional diagnosis is a success at this point. Little closed but, hey, these little freaks aren't meant to be public speakers. I suggest we increase his PT to one a day and increase his caloric intake...
