Name: Kayl Jalen
Race: Human
Age: 12
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 100 lbs
Appearance: Though he does have some physical strength beyond the usual thanks to his training at the academy, Kayl is naturally a bit smaller than many other younglings his age. His build is very slim and lean, which effectively hides the amount of physical strength that he does have. His fingers are longer and more graceful, the hands one you would expect of an artist or a musician, and with another use that one wouldn't expect: gripping the hilt of a lightsaber. His face is also more sharply defined with higher, well defined cheek bones, a more pointed chin and nose, and large intelligent eyes. His eye brows are thinner and often angled to give his features a sarcastic touch. His skin is fair with just a bit of a tan from time spent outside, and his eyes are a deep smoky blue. His hair is raven black and between short and mid length, cut a bit closer at the back than at the front, where several bangs fall to obscure his forehead.
Birth place: Anaxes
Faction: Jedi
Rank: Youngling
Bio:
Kayl Jalen was born in the year 3614 BBY on the planet of Anaxes to Kaleb and Lorsa Jalen, ages 25 and 24. His father, Kaleb, was a very accomplished man despite his young age. He graduated from his primary and secondary schooling with flying colors and went on to study banking and commerce at the Anaxes Citadel, from which he would go on to become a consultant for one of the planet's major banking corporations. His mother, Lorsa, was a young woman studying biological chemistry in the many parks on the planet. She too attended training at the Anaxes Citadel which is in fact where the two met.
Kayl and his parents lived very comfortably in a high rise building complex a short distance from one of the parks where Lorsa did her local study and research. Even from infancy Kayl's parents put an emphasis on developing Kayl's mind to make him an academic person. As soon as he was old enough to talk (at about one and a half years) his father began to give him simple lessons on his own, and even before that he would read to him on a regular basis. By age two he was forming simple sentences and his father was pleased with his progress. By three he was able to read, and his father would give him small books to read on his own. Being very success oriented, his father drilled it into his son from a very early age that setting goals was everything, and failure, even in small things, was unacceptable. Thus when reached the age of 4 he was already an intelligent young child.
His mother by contrast highly valued relationships with others, and soon as he was old enough she would make play dates for him with other small children, hoping that he would be able to make fast friends with them. This failed relatively quickly. Naturally, Kayl did not gravitate towards people and so other children did not really act friendly towards him with any real readiness. Though at the time it didn’t seem to faze him much, it did affect his personality for the future in that he would always be particularly timid around people. His mother, disappointed at this, only tried harder to push him into friendships, which only really exacerbated the problem; she thought she was actually helping him. She would often take him to the parks where she did her work, which helped him to develop a love for the outdoors that would extend into his later life. His sensitivity to the force began to show very early, which could be considered good or bad, since the change was very small and difficult to see. His reflexes were somewhat faster than other children of his age. As a result of this he adapted to and learned things more quickly than others, which his parents wrote off as natural because of his heritage. For the time being though, no one was aware of this.
Towards the end of his fourth year, hard times hit his family. The banking corporation that his father worked for went under and his father was out of work. For a time they had enough income to take care of themselves, but it quickly became obvious that his father would need to find a new vocation, as his wife's career only brought in money when she was on a project, which was not often enough to support them. His father began looking for work elsewhere in the core worlds, and, being from a city planet himself, soon came to consider Corruscant. The city had good enough lodgings for his family, and being big in banking and commerce, it would likely have work for him to take up to support the family. Though Lorsa loathed leaving behind her the beautiful parks and scenery of Anaxes, she was more loathe to have her son live badly and so reluctantly agreed to the move. Shortly after this they boarded a passenger ship, bound for the planet. Kaleb's prediction proved accurate, and shortly after this, he did manage to find work with a small corporation. It did not provide as much income as previously, but it was enough to take care of his family. He quickly sunk into a state of depression though, ashamed of himself for not being able to provide the life for himself and his wife and son that he had wanted to, and quickly fell out of the picture for his now approaching 5 years old.
After reaching the planet, Kayl's sensitivity to the force became more apparent, his faster reflexes began to spill over into his physical activities, though he mostly played alone thanks to his social ineptness. Very soon after the move, when Kayl was late in his fourth year, the Jedi of the academy on the world began to take notice of him, and contacted his parents to discuss it with them. Initially though, his parents were completely and totally against it. His mother knew something of the Jedi's practices, and knew that it would mean complete separation from her child and separating him from the rest of the world, which she disliked. His father, determined to have a son that would become a scholar like himself, and that becoming a Jedi would all but rob him of that chance. Of course there was also the chance that he could be hurt or killed once he became a full fledged Jedi, and so his parents refused to let him join the academy. Kayl though, had now met one of the famous Jedi. He couldn't believe that they would want someone like him to join their ranks, he felt oddly connected to them. Even at this early stage he felt like he fit in with the calm, yet obviously powerful Jedi, and was resentful of his parents for denying their request. Kayl began draw away from his parents shortly after this; he had never fit in with other children his age, and felt it was unfair that his parents wouldn't let him go somewhere he could fit in.
Just before his fifth birthday Kayl tried to run away from home, thinking to join the Jedi on his own, with or without his parents' permission. He soon felt lost and afraid because he was now completely lost among the enormous buildings of the city-planet of Corruscant, though he was actually closer to his home than he thought. A few hours later found him crouching and sobbing in a narrow alley. A group of thugs working for a crime lord within the city noticed his clothes clothing and thinking that they could kidnap and ransom him they approached him. As it happened the Jedi had sent another Watchman to the area hoping to talk to his parents again about sending him to the academy. Sensing the trouble nearby the Watchman rushed to Kayl's aid, driving off the thugs and saving the young boy. They returned to his home to find two worried and angry parents. This time when the Watchman spoke to them they began to see what was happening with their son. Obviously he felt that he belonged with this group of people, and would even do very stupid things to join them. Fearing for his safety and wanting their son to be happy, they very reluctantly agreed to let him be tested. He was taken to the temple, where of course he did prove to have a strong sensitivity to the force. It was agreed that he would enter the academy.
It quickly became apparent to Kayl that this was indeed where he belonged. He loved everything about the academy from the very beginning: the quiet, and especially the sense of comradeship even though he was not even truly a Jedi yet. He seemed to fit in with the other younglings at the academy, who seemed smart and eager like himself. The next few years went by quite quickly. He took well to his training, though he took a bit to warm up to lightsaber combat. It became quickly apparent that despite his slight lack of physical strength for his age, his speed and intellect made him an effective, if different kind of fighter. He picked up on Shii Cho quickly, though his real passion lied elsewhere. Nearly all the time at the academy it was possible to find him in the Archives of the academy where he spent massive amounts of time studying and looking at history and other subjects. It became quickly obvious that he was a very academic person, as he excelled in his classes. Towards the end of his 11th year though, he still hadn't been chosen as a padawan and was beginning to get worried. He knew by now where he would be placed if he could not obtain a master, and it was obvious why. Though he excelled in certain areas, he was not really showing himself to be an exceptional candidate in all areas. He now enters his twelfth year determined to show the council what he can do, and to obtain master by the end so that he can truly join the Jedi.

For a moment those persistent thoughts of home and his family clouded his mind, worries about his classes and other such things bringing his thoughts to a boil of confusion and distraction. Absently, he brought a hand up to the pendant that he wore around his neck, thumb coming to lie on the smooth blue stone in its center. In its smoothness, the coolness of it, he could always find serenity. He felt his thoughts calm and quiet, and all at once he could feel it. It was a feeling that always amazed him whenever he managed to reach this state. It of course was not perfect peace, his thoughts still raged in the back of his mind, whispers that occasionally managed to attract his interest, but it was still a wonderful thing. He felt like nothing, nothing and everything all at once. He reached out with his mind, tentatively touching the scant items lying around his room. He felt, rather than saw, a book on his bed rise into the air, slowly yes, but it was rising. He left the book, moving to his pillow. It too slowly moved into the air. Satisfied he opened his eyes, casting his glance around the room. Kayl picked up a pad next to him on the bed as well, glancing at the time. It was time to head to his next class. He smiled a little and, running a hand through his hair, rose and left the small room. His father had always taught him to focus on one goal and drown out everything else. Well there was one thought, one goal on his mind now, and he would reach it, no matter what. I will be a Jedi!
