Originally retained by the republic during the booming period of sales, this particular Falcon was later modified for intelligence work. With the Falcon class vessels being so popular among the general populace, it fit right into the routine of things without a hitch. Almost ten years after she was commissioned, the aging bird still flew, and numerous aftermarket upgrades allowed for extensive internal systems to be added.
It didn't take too long, however, before the technology started to become far more advanced than the vessel could support. ECM arrays almost half the size of the stock models, and using less than a third of the power, new laser cannon had nearly twice the damage with the same sized package and similar power draw, and even a new navicomputer that ran computations several seconds faster and only utilizing 2/3rds the space, forced a serious interior redesign. With the projected expense of the refits, the republic decided to just leave the vessel lying in an impound yard.
Egill later found the vessel and sponsored the extensive refitting. When it was done, the vessel's interior looked almost like a new-model pleasure yaught. The interior of carbon fiber, black and red cloth, and even various pieces of metal, all with proper lighting accents, was modeled by a local interior designer and subtly brought the attention of the average viewer away from places where there might be hidden compartments, security systems, or any number of other things. Inside these newly created compartments, were a number of things. Not the least of which being mildly reworked parts of the original interior. In about an hour (less with more people) the vessel's modular interior can be changed to fit virtually any need. These needs come in three basic 'presets' which can be selected as a whole or mixed and matched. They are grungy (complete with it's own lighting setting), cared for but aging and damaged, and brand new.
Externally, a similar effect was achieved. The new ion engines glowed a fiery red, and a second designer gave the craft a paint scheme of black and red (black being the primary, red being an accent color). Using the adaptive camouflage, however, the vessel can look like almost anything superficially. To further give it the effect of an older craft, the armored surface has a rough, cracked texture similar to chipped paint. While the ship can look like it recently recieved a fresh coat of paint, the texture provided by the surface of the armored plating gives her owner a solidifying piece in virtually any cover story.
The interior electronics had been reworked, giving the craft a number of sensor jammers to camouflage the massively reworked nature of the ship. To sensors, the vessel would appear mostly like the stock military surplus model the vessel had originally been, with the occasional after market upgrade. To the naked eye, it was an old racer. During the refit, the entire internal structure of the craft had been gutted (followed later by the reverse). The rebuilt structure allowed the redesigners to place important conduits and cables in places different than in the original. To anyone who had ever worked on the original models and knew how to sabatage them, they could spend hours just trying to find the new pathways, let alone managing to sabatage or cripple them.
This also led to the inclusion of hidden compartments in the mechanical accesses. Most customs agents are somewhat sluggish to get their hands covered in grease and grime, and are therefore less likely to get their hands dirty and inspect the mechanic's crawlways, let alone do so in detail enough to notice the compartments.
