Hiding from the Ithorians, the Rakata observed the planet and its inhabitants. Finding the Lemurs amusing they used their Force abilities to evolve them, making them semi-sentient, and gave them wings with which to fly. Leaving soon after, these Rakatan would be among the first to lose their Force-sensitivity, becoming stranded in space until they crashed into a star. This new species of Lemur would stay isolated in a particular section of the jungle, on one of the two continents the Ithorians had never set foot on, away from the Ithorians. They would not know of the Winged-Lemurs until well after they took to their Hive-ships, when a small corporation would illegally sneak onto the planet, taking several exotic animals to sell as pets on the black-market, among them the Winged-Lemurs.
