Appearance: Illya, when not encased in her flight uniform and helmet, is rather umremarkable. Neck-length hair the color of bronze, dull green eyes, and a below average bust. When in a dress uniform, Illya proudly displays her most treasured medal: The Aegis of the People medal, earned while defending Republic personnell during the siege of Shogun. The medal itself is heart-shaped, dull brown, and emblazoned with a picture of two children.
Personality: To put it bluntly, Illya loves flying. If you're in a conversation with her on solid ground or inside a carrier, the conversation will eventually shift to some topic related to flight. When she's flying, though, she doesn't say very much, except when told to abandon allies. Tell Illya to leave an ally behind to get the majority of people to safety, and you've got a scary lady.

Bio:
In the beginning, there were two Corulagians. The man, Samuel Garuda, was a mechanic. The woman, Ilkani Volchek was a professional parade pilot, piloting antique fighters for commemorative parades and airshows. Like an inept guard and the afterlife, the two seemed destined to meet. It happened after a mock battle in which Ilkani piloted a CX-133 left over from the Great Sith War. The fighter, being nearly 400 years years old, needed extensive work after the show. Samuel was the mechanic assigned toduct tape it back together repair it, and the two hit it off.
Though they never married, the couple stayed close together. It was sometime after their 16th anniversary that Ilkani announced that she was pregnant. Her pregnancy meant that she'd be kept out of any sort of cockpit, something Ilkani didn't take to at all. Years laster, the family shared the inside joke that Ilkani's frustration about wanting to fly channeled into Illya, giving the girl her own desire to climb into a fighter cockpit.
As a toddler, Illya was cuddly and curious. Neither of her parents could go anywhere in the house without little Illya clinging to them and asking where they were going. They doted on their little girl when they could, and she passed blissfully through that stage of life.
School meant other children. Other children meant friends. Friends meant a giggly, happy little Illya. She easily mingled with others, but kept away from large groups most of the time. Her instructors reported that she was a hard working student, though prone to the occasional bouts of daydreaming whenever she knew her mother was flying somewhere.
High school brought something new to Illya's attention: The idea that maybe some day she really could be a pilot just like her mother. It'd been a wonderful idea for her as a child, but the maturity and seriousness brought on by high school deeply rooted the idea of actually being a pilot in her head, a fact made quite clear to her friends. She applied herself to math and physics and excelled in them, but only garnered average scores in other subjects. Her drive to succeed in these was detrimental to her social life, and she passed through school without so much as a date. Her friends tried to get her to socialize, but no. Illya was obsessed with her studies and starships.
Illya graduated school at the ripe old age of 18 with the 16th highest grade average in her class. It was no surprise to either of her parents that she intended to join the Republic Navy, but what was a surprise was her announcement that she intended to wait a year before signing up, her reason being that she simply wanted to take a break and relax from school for a year. Said year passed by blissfully, and Illya gathered her stones and joined up for the Navy at a recruiting center close to her home.
Illya had expected Navy training to be all flight simulations. She was wrong. It involved physical training and weapons training that she wasn't ready for at all. She floundered at first, not doing well in physical or weapons training. She was berated by her traininers, and felt discouraged. But a voice in her head that started out tiny and insignificant, but grew louder and louder, told her that she could do it. She could get through the training and into the simulations.
