He wasn't big on flying, never had been. So nobody was half surprised when the Jedi Knight Almsey had turned up with everyone else at the docks looking for base transport to Nar shaddaa. Of course, he could fly. Of course, he could have taken a Jedi transport. But he didn't like piloting, he could do it. But, certain people aren't cut out for certain tasks. He just found the whole thing droll and uninteresting. Having to keep ones mind focused on that single task for hours on end, sitting there doing nothing. It drove him insane.
He wasn't on a mission for the council. Well. Not directly anyways. A couple of weeks ago,, word came to him that one of his contacts had managed to skip off world. This was the same contact who was working a case for him. One that he'd actually been unable to solve in the past. It was a sort of. Personal vendetta.
Originally the mission had turned up on his doorstep last year. Ironically right when he'd started training his intial padawan. Protocol droid. Handed about the black market. When questioned about a certain hidden data cache in its memory. The droid would ask for a passphrase. If said phrase wasn't spoken within 60 seconds. The droid would go berserk. And supposedly. Kill its current owner. Almsey had attempted to find the Droid, from what he'd managed to find out. It had been purchased by a member of the senate. But before he could continue the investigation and hunt down just what member it was. Leads seemed to dry up. Everyone suddenly began to shut their mouths.
He tried looking into the Droids background. Previous owners. Stories about it. And when before they'd been plentiful. Once again. They were drying up. Someone had started covering tracks. And it was no dirty job. It was clean. Professional. Nothing that could lead onto anyone or anything.
He'd kept tabs on it using this one contact. Not a slimey type, real clean collar. Well. For a thief. The best of criminal contacts was of course those who had a network of contacts all their own. Some of which wern't open to Almsey. In return for turning a blind eye to certain activities and a few credits here and there. Almsey had a useful source who'd helped him take down a lot of scum. The issue that had presented itself right now. Was that, this particular contact. Was both, descrete. And powerful. He wasn't a man who would run. He had a lot of other options should he ever be faced with a problem.
Bribery and assassination were the biggest solutions. Depending on the problem.
But, with news that he'd skipped world. Came a growing concern that the thief had learned something. And once again. The clean cover up was starting. Almsey knew that this Droid. Hid something important, important enough to kill to defend. And the professionality of the cover up. It stunk of political, or upper class involvement. If the thief was unable to take care of this on his own...then that meant he'd stumbled onto something big. And just in case. Almsey wanted to hunt him down, and get what information he could. Be it from his mouth....or from the murder scene.
Thats...if there was even a scene.
He hadn't brought much with him...bar his padawan. And even then he'd been rather hesitant to bring her along on this one. But she needed field work. And as the ship docked. The current odd silence that her usually bouncy master was showing. Might have clued her in to how serious this situation could potientally be. Before they left, he'd gave her a brief recap of the whole thing. Along with a datapad containing what little information he'd managed to gather on this droid and the people who'd owned it in the past. That, and his own records and frustrations about trying to hunt down the member of senate who'd bought it during the information " dry up". With the airlock engaged. Almsey was quick to make his way out onto the smugglers moon.
"....So Moonfire. This is a serious mission but...I've still got to teach you...so...if this was your investigation...and you were looking for the contact...where would you begin?".
