Bio: For most of his life Dorrin believed that he was meant to be a Jedi. The son of two merchants it was discovered that he was force-sensitive by the time that he was two, and thus he was quickly whisked away by to the temple by the Jedi that had tested him. His parents were quite upset, but they believed this to be the best course for him.
As a youngling Dorrin was considered to be about average. While he was certainly considered competent when compared to his peers, there was very little about him that stood out. In fact he was best known for the speed at which he grew, even by the age of eight it was obvious that genetics had gifted Dorrin with a large, muscular build.
Dorrin’s main difficulty came with lightsaber combat. While it was true that his sizable frame gave him an advantage in terms of strength, he had to pay for that strength with his speed. He would often find himself simply unable to keep up with his opponents who would dance past his defenses, and easily avoid his attempts to attack. He was not the worst in his class, but at the time it was assumed that Dorrin’s talents would lie outside his blade.
At the age of eleven Dorrin caught the eye of Jedi Knight Sorlas Ilyan. Dorrin was surprised when Sorlas asked him to be his padawan, for he was asked right after a lightsaber competition where he performed only mildly well but he gratefully accepted all the same.
Dorrin soon discovered what it was that Sorlas saw in him. The youthful knight was a proponent of combining use of the force with a person’s natural talent and athleticism as much as possible, and he was convinced that Dorrin could be made into a duelist of note. Under his master’s tutelage Dorrin soon learned how to use his strength to his advantage, and to shut down the speed of others. They also trained Dorrin’s body so that while his speed was still not a strong point, it could be considered average.
As Dorrin grew he slowly formed a brotherly relationship with Sorlas. From him he gained an independent nature, and the confidence to rely on his own judgment. Dorrin was aware that the pair were considered to be slight mavericks by the council, often going by their own feelings than the advice presented to them. Still their missions were performed well enough that any flaws the council saw were overlooked.
Perhaps the greatest lesson his master could give him was how to relate to others in the galaxy. Raised in the temple Dorrin found it hard to relate to the other beings he encountered, but slowly under Sorlas’ tutelage he learned first how to relate, then to interact, and even to lead. It was the greatest lesson his master could teach him.
Dorrin encountered his first dark Jedi when he was sixteen. The mission had been to negotiate the end of a civil war on some remote planet. After a long and arduous investigation, Dorrin and Sorlas uncovered that a Dark Jedi was behind most of the tension, hoping to take power in the chaos. They eventually confronted him and engaged in a two on one duel.
Dorrin fought for as long and hard as he could, but in the end he was simply outmatched. He was first disarmed, then force pushed into the wall hard enough to be knocked unconscious. When he came to, Sorlas was grievously injured and the Dark Jedi nowhere to be found.
Sorlas barely survived his wounds, but eventually the pair made it back to the temple. As his master recovered Dorrin was beset by a sense of overwhelming guilt that if he had just been a little bit faster, a bit more skilled than the whole thing would have turned out differently.
From that day onward Dorrin intensified his training in lightsaber combat, and additionally trained in using the force to increase his physical attributes. He took lessons from anyone he could, determined to make up for what he saw as his previous failure.
In addition Dorrin realized that he couldn’t depend solely on his lightsaber for his protection. Having been disarmed so easily, he was determined to mold his body into a formidable weapon was well. As a result he also sought out a great deal of training in unarmed combat among the masters.
More time passed, and Dorrin was knighted when he was 22. As a Knight he distinguished himself quite well, though never leaving behind the maverick tendencies Sorlas had instilled in him. Then one fateful day he was given a mission to investigate a series of murders of a number of prominent public figures in Coruscant, and was aided by none other than his old master Sorlas.
Their investigation was over before it could even start. They had been questioning the widow of one of the victims, and true to their nature happily accepted the pastries she offered. They felt the effects fifteen minutes after the pastries were eaten, and the tranquilizer was so possible that even the force couldn’t stop the effects. Dorrin learned more than a year later that he was unable to sense the woman’s deception because there was none, she had no idea that her pastries were poisoned.
She was killed seconds after their bodies were taken.
Dorrin awoke shackled to a table aboard a starship. For days he was deprived of food, water, sleep.
Eventually his captor was revealed to be the same Dark Jedi that Dorrin fought against years ago. The self-proclaimed Darth Sorlais had been behind the entire rash of murders for some scheme, and when he saw the opportunity to capture the very Jedi that had foiled him years ago he took it.
Dorrin’s torture intensified, especially when Sorlais used a technique called torture by chagrin. Dorrin held on for months, but when he was at his weakest, in came Sorlais holding Sorlas’ head.
Dorrin was broken.
He was not broken in the sense that he completely abandoned the ideals and beliefs he had as a Jedi. But, his faith in the ability of the Jedi to overcome the Darkside was shattered. Sorlas had been his role model from the first days of their master-padawan relationship, and in the back of his mind Dorrin had never quite believed that Sorlas could be beaten.
Even if Dorrin managed to escape and come back with reinforcements, next time the Dark Jedi would be someone even stronger. In Dorrin’s mind it had been made abundantly clear that the center could not hold. Eventually the Jedi would be washed away by an opponent that the order simply could not match.
The answer was to learn the ways and power of the Dark Jedi, and use it against him. In the beginning, Dorrin had every intention of going back to the Jedi as soon as Sorlais taught him all he could. Dorrin saw his role as that of a spy gathering critical information.
After all this time he knew what it was that Sorlais wanted. With a bowed he humbly asked to be unchained. Dorrin did not attack when he was freed; instead he got down on his knees and declared Sorlais to be his master.
Sorlais knew that Dorrin would eventually try to kill him, and that Dorrin’s fall to the Darkside was superficial at best. But Sorlais was confident that he could deepen Dorrin’s commitment in the Darkside, and in the process make Dorrin come to see Sorlais as his true master to be served and obeyed.
The training was harsh, unbelievably so, and during it Dorrin fell to the Dark Side without even realizing it. It was a gradually subtle process, but one day Dorrin simply began to the think of the Jedi as “those weaklings,” and that was the day he embraced the dark side.
However, Dorrin’s desire to kill Sorlais did not change, only the motivation did. Over time Dorrin accepted Sorlas’ death as proof that Sorlas did not have the strength necessary to survive, but at the same time Dorrin came to realize that Sorlais was unable to teach Dorrin all he could. It was time to end his apprenticeship with Sorlais, and seek out those more powerful who could teach Dorrin as much as he wished to know.
Sorlais never realized that his apprentice retained his plans to kill him. He had become too proud over his success in turning one of the champions of light to the Darkside, and believed that he could use his apprentice to achieve a great deal of power in the Universe.
Such blindness made it easy for Dorrin to pull off his assignation.
At the age of 24 Dorrin snuck into his master’s room while he was dead asleep, and cut off his arms. Having properly awoken his master Dorrin proceeded to pay him back for the torture he was put through, particularly by using the very same Force Technique torture by chagrin that Sorlais had originally tortured Dorrin with. Dorrin had specifically learned that technique from Sorlais with this very occasion in mind. During the course of the torture, Dorrin learned of the existence of the Sith from Sorlais, then promptly killed him once and for all.
Once his master was disposed of, Dorrin joined the Sith. He knew he still had much to learn, and they sounded like they could teach him a thing or two.

“I must admit that I had no idea it would be so pathetically easy,” Dorrin remarked casually as he looked down at the armless figure of his old master.
Sorlais glared up at him trying to be threatening despite his impotency. Dorrin could sense him trying to use the force to attack, but his wounds were too soon and too severe. Sorlais glared, but through the force Dorrin could sense that fear and panic were
starting to set in.
“Do not think that you shall escape the consequences of this Dorrin,” Sorlais raged, “I have resources-“
“No you don’t,” Dorrin cuts in with a laugh. He sits down in a chair next to the bed, comfortable with the knowledge of his power over his former master. “Do you truly think I haven’t planned this out to the last detail? I killed those bodyguards that you thought you had hidden from me right before I came here. I’m shocked that you didn’t sense it, but then again I’m not.”
In a flash Dorrin was standing over top Sorlais his hand closed around his throat and his twisted into a snarl.
“I see now how pathetic my fear of you had been. You could wield a lightsaber, you could torture, but you never understood the force. It was always a mysterious tool to you; you could wield it but never understood its true power. That is why you couldn’t sense my intentions, why you’re lying here at my mercy.”
“Then why did the Sith-“ Sorlais began but snapped his mouth shut. Dorrin raised an eyebrow, in the temple the consensus had been that the Sith had gone extinct.
“Are you telling me that there are still Sith out there,” Dorrin said softly as his mind began to explore the possibilities.
“A deal!” Sorlais cried, “my life for-“
“You know,” Dorrin cut him off with a malicious grin, “I was hoping you’re first answer wouldn’t be what I wanted to know. Because torture is a craft you know well, but you’ll find that I was an excellent pupil.”
