Character Name: Insway Nal
Character Source: SWU
Character Faction: Jedi
Type of Roleplay: Story driven
Roleplay Requirements: Whatever you feel like.
Reason for Request:
Well, among other things, I haven't RPd for nearly a year now, so I'm probably a little rusty and boring right now. Also, I want to get a good feel for Insway before I stick him into the universe. Additionally, I'm trying to adjust to the sheer length of SWURP posts, since I'm used to RPs where 4 or 5 paragraphs were the norm. Lastly, I would like some prodding in terms of moving the story along. As an RPer, I've always tended to do little in terms of moving a thread's story forward, but I want to get used it. In general, I want help in learning how to keep a thread moving but not hijacking the thread.
Notes:
I'm going to try to leave this as open as possible, so respond with whatever you want. Though I wouldn't mind conflict of sorts, I'd prefer not actually getting involved in a duel in this thread.
Please tell me if it's too long or too short.
Thanks up front for the help!
Roleplay:
Idly, a foot clad with a soft, leathery material in a shade of dark brown impressed patterns on the lightly colored sand the predominated the ground around the landing platform. Observed by a few workers and travelers, the action would likely be mistaken for boredom or impatience by those watching, yet it was far from it. In fact, only one person present, other than the one to whom the foot belonged, would know that the movement was unlikely to be a symptom of either possibility. He would be fully aware that the one to whom the foot belonged rarely displayed symptoms of anything that went on inside his head, and instead only acted when there was purpose involved. In this crowd of strangers, he was the only one who knew better.
At least, that was what Insway Nal hoped.
Dressed in oak colored Jedi Robes that were as much a part of Insway's life as his blond hair, the Jedi Master stood on a patch of sand a short way off from the landing pad, his graceful manner making him seem as much a part of the scenery as the foliage that started thirty-odd meters behind him. He wore a casual dispassionate expression that suited his features well, though did tend to make him seem like a man in a world of dreams where he stood. It would probably be enough to make several beings around the small port feel disconcerted, especially when coupled with the sickly appearance that his wiry frame and pale skin gave him.
Still scraping the complicated pattern into the sand around him, he considered how long it had been since he and the Republic Officer, the only person at the dock who knew him in any sense, had worked together. Having gotten to know the pilot during the years he was teaching his first student, Ani Dubbel, and quickly picking up on the Officer's loyalty and skill, he had often requested him on missions of particular difficulty. A Kuati named Hanser Trunt, the human was something close to an old friend, even though the pair was only ever brought together by their duties, Insway had grown to know and trust the pilot, and in turn, the pilot had started to gain a marginal understanding of the Jedi.
Yet, it had been a long time since they had last worked together. It had been nearly a decade prior that he and Maya had set out to track down a dangerous Dark Jedi, a mission that in time had grown dangerous enough for Insway to relieve both Republic Officers that had been operating the shuttle the Jedi were using. He remembered well how captain Trunt had been difficult to convince to leave, yet had not said a word more on the matter after Insway had made it clear that he was ordering them to leave. Now, the events of that mission felt like they belonged in another lifetime, to another Jedi.
In the intervening time, Insway had become one of the far subtler hands of Jedi influence, rarely involved with missions as dynamic as those he had grown accustomed to during his time as a Jedi Knight. He had become a teacher, but more importantly, he had also become an avid learner again. More often than not, his recent missions involved him excavating ancient and abandoned Jedi enclaves, seeking the knowledge of previous generations of Jedi in his travels. He didn't travel that much, though, instead preferring to train Jedi on Coruscant. A good deal of his students was made up of Younglings and Padawan, yet he had grown accustomed to Knight and Master level Jedi looking for his expertise on certain subjects.
Yet, what dominated most of his time though, was his most recently given responsibility, that of a Jedi High Council member. As he had theorized years before, every great change in his life brought with it a set of difficult and intense new challenges, most which often took him years to overcome. Though he was by no means afraid, nor in doubt that he was suited for the task, he was also well aware that it was a very difficult time to take up the mantle, with war in the galaxy and divisions within the Jedi Order itself.
"You were right about a lot of things, master..."[/B] he stated simply. He might have mentioned that both of them should have wished her not to be, yet they had both known better. They had both seen hard times coming, and wishing they were wrong would have been ignorant on both parts. Though Insway often openly stated that he still had as much to learn as any Youngling, he was well aware of how foolish ignorance was.
"What was that, Master Insway?" The Captain had been maintaining a post not far from Insway, from where he could monitor their shuttle while still being close at hand should the Jedi require him for anything. Insway supposed it was force of habit though, as they were both fully aware there was little that Insway would ask of the captain that he would not rather do himself.
"Nothing, Captain Trunt. Just talking to an old friend. How is the refueling going?"[/B] he responded, his tone simple and conversationalist.
"It will be another twenty minutes at least." Though it sounded curt, Insway was well aware that it was the mannerism of the career officer to be short in sentence, and took no offence. After all, things had not quite been going as either of them had anticipated on this mission.
As nice a location as it was, they had not originally intended to stop on Cerea on the way back to Coruscant, but the pair had been forced to adjust their plans after they discovered the shuttle to be bleeding fuel and nearly empty as they were nearing a third of the way home. Though it was an independent planet with a degree of aversion towards technology among the populace, Cerea was a reasonable choice, especially as Insway had felt the will of the Force guiding him towards the planet as they were weighing up their options. He had been following the guidance of the Force for forty years now, and would not quickly look to take another path.
Even so, the Force had only guided him as far as the landing pad on which they had settled the Republic shuttle. Well aware that events would unfold as they needed to, though, Insway had resorted to a patient 'wait and see' view on matters, with little to do but wait for purpose to come to him...
