Malric ran madly and blindly forward into the arms of death, screaming and shouting. Though, louder than any other sound was his own breathing inside his helmet. A large shell exploded not meters from him, throwing his comrades off their feet. Some were killed instantly, while others screamed as they clutched at their own gutts, or stumps of bleeding flesh where limbs had been.
Seeing the enemy only meters in front of him he popped up from behind cover, and he heard a shout from behind him. He turned just in time to see an attack speeder bear down on him. Just before he was shredded by blaster fire.
He saw sky, and when he hit the ground his head lolled at an awkward angle from behind cover. He had a clear view of the enemy compound and what was happenning there. Though he could do nothing... He was dead...
Solus'ad watched the Holo-vid of the young soldiers last moments when Cay Severn had ordered his men into battle on a large Holo-vid screen in his new war room on Concord Dawn. His helmet lay on the table in front of him.
His gloved hands clasped together, Solus'ad watched as Cay's men had rushed blindly forward to their doom. The republic had been more than ready.
Solus'ad's swivelling chair creaked softly as he leaned back in it and considered his options. He was the leader of a people now, more than just a military. He had some things to consider. He would need ships, and men to crew them. True there were many brave men on Concord dawn that he knew he could count on, but he knew that would not be enough. He knew he would also need new training facilities, to help accomidate raw recruits.
He hated faceing the facts... He would need to hire mercenaries. What would he pay them with?
He unclasped his fingers and grasped a cup filled with clean water. He took a long swig and sloshed the water in his mouth to enjoy the taste before he swallowed. The sigh he relinquished reflected just how thirsty he had been. He looked at the glass a moment before he set it down on the table in front of him.
With an air of contemplation, he stroked the stubble on his chin. After a prolonged moment of thought, he pressed a small button on his right gauntlet, and a small droid enterred the room.
"I-3 T-3" He barked, and the droid made a soft humming sound in confirmation of its attention. "I need you to send the following message to my Commander on Mandalore."
The small floating droid's main viewing reticle changed color from blue to red and the droid made a buzzing noise signifying that it was recording. "Commander I want you to begin work on the refitting and renovation activities of the ship yard in Kedalbe. Once your work is complete, I need you to begin constructing ships. These are my orders." Solus'ad tapped out a command order on his right gauntlet. "Begin emmediately. kote." The droid recognized his Mandalorian word for glory as its que to quit recording and send the message. Solus'ad waved it away with a motion of his hand.
He looked at the halted vid on the view screen and switched off the monitor. He needed to sleep. Tomorrow would be a difficult Day.
