With all the turmoil that had been plaguing the Republic since the reemergence of the Sith, Mon’vuuem had found herself with little time to spare over the past weeks. As such, she hadn’t spent as much time with her apprentice as she’d liked and a small tangle of worry pulled in the back of her mind that Asani’s training might be suffering for it, something neither they nor the future of the Jedi could afford. It was these thoughts that had led to the Kaminoan’s current journey down the long halls of the temple, her padawan tucked securely across her shoulders in the normal spot the youngling took up when they were together. Ahead of them lay the double doors that concealed the vibrant meditation gardens and Mon’vuuem could feel the radiating song of all the living things beyond those doors as they echoed through the Force to her. She nodded pleasantly to those she passed, accepting the deferential bows aimed her way with the humbleness of a newly risen knight instead of a High Council Member, and then swept into the gardens as the portal whisked open before her. Her stride had not even slowed and still she meandered down a long thin trail that led them farther back into the room.
The sound of running water beckoned to her from up ahead. In times like these, when Mon’vuuem was most pressed and her thoughts in the most turmoil, she turned back to the element that most clearly called to her. Kamino, her home world, was a water planet and something deep within her had always led Mon’vuuem back to that element when she needed peace. She slipped silently down an embankment and then skirted around a few bushes to emerge into a small clearing nestled against the edge of a clear pool. Ahead, a large waterfall dominated the view on the opposite side of the water sending ripples all the way out to lap at the shores of the clearing it faced. The area was well known to most of the older Jedi and Mon’vuuem was grateful for once that there was no one else there that day. She needed a few moments of alone time to spend with her padawan. There was much to discuss. The Jedi training specifically called for a Jedi in training to follow the wisdom of their master unquestioningly but Mon’vuuem felt that was no excuse for keeping Asani in the dark. The future the Jedi were fighting for belonged to her and the other younglings after all and Mon’vuuem wanted to make sure the child understood the full implications of all that was occurring around them. Ignorance would do none of them any good in times such as this.
Besides, Mon’vuuem reasoned, Asani had been at Subterrel and had born witness to the return of the Sith with her own eyes. She would no doubt have questions and the Kaminoan wanted to make sure she would find answers. Mon’vuuem eased herself down onto the soft moss below her and turned to face the water lapping at the shore only a few feet from her. Thin water worn stones shone up from beneath the waves and glittered at her. Mon’vuuem blinked slowly and then reached up to gently pull her padawan from her shoulders, settling the youngling into her lap. Her long fingers ruffled through the thick fur below her hand. She knew Asani responded well to physical affection even if Mon’vuuem wasn’t used to giving it. The pair sat silent for a few minutes before Mon’vuuem finally spoke. “It has been some time since we returned from our mission on Subterrel. Tell me what you remember and what you thought of it all, Asani.”
