Missions are the bread and butter of the universe. Whether you’re new to SWU or a veteran here, missions are the way your character can get involved with the universe they live in and sometimes that can result in some notable changes.
The majority of the missions will be small and localized events, allowing your character to put their skills to use and to interact with other characters, whether they be PC or NPC, in order to try and complete an objective. These missions might not have the largest influence upon the universe, but they will certainly help you to develop and explore your character.
However, there will be missions that can help the plot of the site progress, by allowing factions to become closer to an objective that they may have in mind. Both of these types of missions may very well have news reports building up to them. For example, results on pirate activity increasing in a system may then provide a faction’s military or a group of mercenaries to be dispatched to deal with them. The success or failure of that mission would then also affect any following news reports regarding the situation. In a similar respect, news about the movement of valuable cargo, art, resources, money, could trigger a mission and an opportunity for a pirate group.
Hopefully through the use of these missions, characters and events can help build and shape the environment in which you roleplay, and allow your character’s actions lead to interesting reactions further down the line.
In order to put your character forward for these missions, you need to simply respond in the relevant thread stating your intention to join, the name of the mission, and the character you want to put forward or the NPC you wish to roleplay. Once a mission is full, a member of staff will create a discussion thread and allow participants to begin the mission.
There is also the option to suggest your own ideas for missions. If you have any suggestions you wish to make, please check out the Mission Suggestion thread, which details how you go about putting your ideas forward.
So don’t be shy, put your characters forward or put yourself forward to play vital NPCs, there are various ways in which your characters can help alter the universe in which you roleplay.
