Species Name: Shteef
Species Type: Near-Human
Planet of Origin: Trehavay
Average Maximum age: 200 galactic standard years
Age of Maturation: 16
Average Height: 6'5
Average Weight: 240 lbs
Notable biological features:
Face of middle aged adult. Excepting Arabic garb.
Horns will be discussed in culture, but they are not a staple feature of all Shteef.
A typical young adult Shteef in standard garb.
They are highly agile creatures, and built strong. Bone structure is similar to human, however, slightly more dense. They require only one square meal a day, though have the same hydration requirements as a typical human. Their bodies are covered in a thin fur, though it is very thin and fine, keeping them warm at night and cool during the day.
Their eyes range from brown to grey to black, and anywhere in-between. They are sharp eyes and are capable of much greater hand-eye-coordination than humans. Their minds have the capacity to be sharper than a human's if given enough stimulation prior to maturation. If not, they will be of the same galactic standard in intellect. Many who have moved off-world and begun schooling and launched their aptitude prior to maturation, have gone on to be some of the best in their academic field. This is due to an overall heightened neural system, connections and synapses form quickly for Shteef, as they need their quick reflexes to survive the harsh environment. The byproduct of this is the intellectual aptitude.
Their immune systems, however, are their weak point, they are highly susceptible to infection, disease and sickness off-planet. To compensate, a regular vitamin regimen can counter this problem, but there is stress on the word regular. This also makes them ineffective heavy drinkers. Their planet has its intoxicating substances, but any off-world counterpart would have to be the weakest of such beverages to give them the heavy hitting effects of their own drinks. This also makes such substances that are slightly addicting to off-worlders something that is highly addictive to their own species.
Number of limbs and Type:
2 arms
2 legs
Culture:
Universal language of compound words to express meaning. Sentences are usually quite short, as most communication is made with purpose or to express something simply and quickly. Though they live simply and speak simply, let it be known that these people are not mentally simple. They are capable of humor and wit as well as the full spectrum of emotion.
The people are divided into tribes ruled by Chiefs. Each tribe has its own customs and beliefs, though the severity to which a Shteef clings to his beliefs depends on the Shteef and the tribe, how it raises them. {The facts concerning the Tribe are up to whoever creates the Character} These tribes may then be called upon to the capital city when a matter concerning galactic relations is called to vote. There are possible other emergency reasons, but this is the primary one.
Marriage is a tribal situation, and is never inter-tribal, although those who leave the planet are permitted to do as they wish.
Horns are possibly the most unique factor of a Shteef, they come at different intervals of a Shteef's life. There are two kinds, black and downturned, and white and upturned. The black horns are a symbol of heavy, heavy emotional strife. The white horns are a symbol of extreme elation or having overcome some incredible challenge. When the body of a Shteef is affected by a heavy enough emotional stimuli, these horns are produced. There is seemingly no limit to the number a horns that can be produced by a Shteef, though the highest recorded belonged to a Chief Kaimal-Lok, or "Chief Eight Horns" in Shtef. (They are quite direct with their language). For the reasons they are produced and because they come from the cranium where thought is known to be produced, it is a widely accepted understanding that these horns are indicative of wisdom. They do not produce in Shteef under the age of maturation, however.
Names are passed down by family, not tribe. The tribe is knit by one indicator, the first letter of every family name would be the same as their Chief's, written in Shtef, and because names translated to Basic by their sound, this letter is usually either the same, or similar sounding when spoken in Basic as well. Though some Chiefs did have the same letters, tribes knew each other by their people predominantly, rather than by such other indicators. Fur, eye color and some physical features generally only detected by either a keen eye or between Shteef were the most notable distinguishing factors.
Shteef language is only mono- or bisyllabic words, as complacent with their simple nature and culture. It is a flowing language, thus stating things quickly and, you guessed it, simply. There are many words that combine with others, in the same way their names do (in Basic, this is indicated with a hyphen). There is a noticeable accent with those Shteef that are raised on Trehavay or learn Shtef before learning Basic, from their parents. This accent is accentuated by all "s" sounds being pronounced by "sh" sounds, while there is a heavy breathing influenced at the end of words.
"Shally shells shea shells baih the shea shore"
It is a light, breathing, though. Not rough like the Irish or Sean Connery. Though, some can make it seem this way, as their tones in voice can differ in almost the exact same aspect as a Human's can.
