This is more of an idea, than an actual proposal, at the moment. I'm looking for input on whether this would be good or not.
Faction Name: Mithril
Faction Purpose: Mithril is a mostly-secret mercenary organization specializing in the eradication of terrorists, criminals, and providing protection for smaller-scale governments who are deemed beneficial by Mithril, and likewise attacking smaller-scale governments who are deemed unbeneficial by Mithril. The definitions of “beneficial” and “nonbeneficial” are decided by the military Junta, which seems to look positively on governments which treat those under their protection well (IE, providing them food, shelter, medical supplies, cracking down on crime etc), and which seems to look down on governments who treat those under their protection poorly (starving them, making them work in unsanitary conditions, committing crimes, unable to defend them from threats, etc). They do not seem to care about what style of governing is implemented so long as the people are relatively prosperous and secure. Mithril also develops and sells advanced weaponry and military technology on a small to medium scale for trusted customers. They are also known to seek out force sensitives not yet formally trained, or otherwise discovered, by the Jedi and Sith Orders, for enlistment into their special operations and research divisions.
Faction Planet: (Looking for a good planet for a base, preferably Inner or Mid-Rim, but Outer and other regions still a possibility. A place somewhat secluded, uninhabited or with a small population, yet having a reasonably temperate climate).
Financial Wealth: Divided into two categories: Liquid and Nonliquid.
Liquid assets: Lower middle to middle poor, depending on availability of contracts.
Non-liquid assets: Lower Wealthy.
Approximately thirty-five percent of Mithril’s wealth comes from contracts offered by governments, corporations, or groups, and such revenue is placed into their liquid assets. The remaining sixty-five percent comes from the sale of advanced military technology and weaponry and investments in other private medical and military corporations under false names.
Mithril’s wealth is primarily divided into two sections: liquid assets, such as credits and short-term stocks which can be sold in an instant, and longer-term, non-liquid assets such as research facilities, bases, ships, and longer-term stocks.
Mithril’s liquids assets are used for military logistics(IE, buying sufficient ammunition, food, fuel, shorter-term things necessary to carry out operations) and are limited, but enough, to carry out surgical strikes and smaller scale military operations, but not to engage in any medium-scale or large-scale conflict for an extended period of time (IE, more than a half a year).
Mithril’s non-liquid assets are substantial, rivaling that of many of the galaxy’s larger corporations, and the proceeds from such go to paying the wages of its members, maintaining and upgrading Mithril’s military assets such as weapons, vessels (but not providing ammunition, fuel, ect) , funding research and development, more investment, and in rare cases funneling money into the liquid pool, although this is rarely done, as it would require Mithril selling off valuable assets, cutting personnel, neglecting care of ships, and overall weakening them in the long-term.
It is divided this way in order to allow Mithril to have substantial advanced military forces and personnel without incurring the huge costs of keeping them all at-the-ready at all times. The downsides to this are, of course, a certain weakness to surprise attacks on their bases due to the lack of capability to immediately mobilize large portions of their troops and the inability to mobilize the entirety of their forces for extended periods of time (IE, more than six or so months). Hence, it is extremely important for Mithril to remain in the shadows for the most part in order to survive financially.
Military Assets:
The military assets of Mithril are divided into three particular divisions, the Mithril Naval Forces, The Mithril Land Division, and Mithril Intelligence. Approximate amount of total military-budget spent on each is included.
Mithril Naval Forces:
Portion of Military Budget: 45%
Six advanced, stealth-capable capital-class ships trading strong defense for stealth, maneuverability, and offense. Numerous smaller frigates, corvettes, cruisers, and carriers for deploying starfighters and bombers.
Estimated Personnel, including support staff: 80,000(regular)-120,000(fully mobilized)
Mithril Land Forces
Portion of Military Budget: 35%
Moderate amount of specialized armor, ranging from artillery to tanks to personnel carriers. Infantry is mostly comprised of light infantry and shock troopers, with a regiment of elite, special Forces available for deployment. One company of force-sensitive soldiers with experimental technology is also available for deployment.
Estimated Personnel, including support staff: 50,000(regular)-85,000(fully mobilized)
Mithril Intelligence Division:
Portion of Military Budget: 20%
In order to survive, Mithril needs a substantial intelligence division. This is exclusively used for information-gathering and analysis purposes only. Assassination and sabotage missions are the prerogative of the land division.
Estimated personnel, including agents, informers, and analysts:
20,000(regular)-25,000 and higher(fully mobilized).
Total active military personnel:
Regularly active: 150,000
Full-scale mobilization: 230,000
Form of Government: Military Junta united under a leader known only as
“The Executive”.
Members of the Junta include:
-The Executive: Responsible for the overall management of Mithril and formulation of general policy.
-Director of Naval Operations: Dealing with all issues relating to the Mithril's Naval Forces.
-Director of Intelligence: Dealing with all Intelligence issues.
-Director of Land Operations: Dealing with all of Mithril’s land forces.
-Director of Research and Development: Responsible for conducting research and development.
-Director of Finances: Responsible for managing the finances of Mithril and coming up with a budget.
-Director of Human Resources: Dealing with personnel issues, complaints, promotions, wages, ect.
-Director of Diplomacy and Negotiations: The public face of Mithril, responsible for seeking out contracts, maintaining public relations, negotiating with governments, contractors, and groups. The only member of Mithril who publicly acknowledges that they are, in fact, in Mithril. The only way to officially contact Mithril is through this man, who currently maintains at least one office in every sector of the Galaxy from the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim.
Each member has one vote on issues pertaining to Mithril and whether or not to accept a contract. The Executive’s vote counts for one more than a regular Director’s vote, bringing the number of total possible votes to 9. A simple majority is needed to approve a decision.
Faction History:
Mithril was established by a fusion of ex-Republic and mercenary military officers a few years prior to the Sith Invasion. Prior to the war, it primarily dealt with dealing with criminal and terrorist groups the Republic couldn’t manage on its own, or for assisting the citizens of a despotic government whom had angered the party in power in the Republic in overthrowing the regime whom could not be attacked overtly by Republic forces for diplomatic reasons.
After the outbreak of war, with the majority of the Republic’s military forces deployed to dealing with the Sith invasion, there was a massive uptick of terrorism, crime, and the rise of despotic or tyrannical governments which occurred across the galaxy. Mithril has since taken up the task of restoring order to these portions of the galaxy, strengthening its military forces and carrying out missions from contractors who meet its standards to restore peace and order to the Galaxy.
