We've all seen them for sale. A lot of us have probably played a few of them. Video games made to coincide with the release of a movie. They're usually quickly made, cheaply done, and horrible to try and sit down to play.
From my experience, tie in games probably peaked once in prevalence around the days of the NES, and again in the heyday of the Gameboy Advance.
I'm sure older folks out there remember some tie-in games for the NES. Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Back to the Future (Which I still have a copy of somewhere around the house. xD; Oh god, the horrible memories.. ), Ghostbusters, the list goes on. They often had nothing to do with the movies aside from character use, and those that DID have some connection often were horribly loose interpretations.
As for the GBA, I remember there being a game for damn near every movie that came out at the time, and they tended to be (From my experience) horrible isometric perspective games.. *Shudder* Like the game for the third Terminator movie. And bafflingly, there were also GBA games for tv shows too, mostly kids sitcoms. I've no personal experience with these, but I sort of recall maybe seeing some screenshots, and they appear to be generic 'run to the right!' platformers.
So, have you guys got any stories? Experiences, repressed memories, thoughts?
And I know what some of you may think.. "What about games based on movies based on games?" Well, behold.
