"From your tone, it sounds like you're suggesting that the Senate's vote doesn't even matter, you plan to continue what you're doing no matter the general complaint against you." A blue skinned Duro said in a hard voice as he stood up.
Nathan stood up and gestured for his comrade several pods away to sit back down.
Nathan stared at Senator Valore for a moment before replying. "Do not try to impress us with your accomplishments in the Republic. A good many of us have worked hard for our positions. Some more than others."
"With that being said, I motion that a Republic Census be taken of Dantooine. A diplomatic team should be assembled and sent to the planet and report their findings back to the Senate. It should be found if the planet really can support an industrialization program and if the citizens really want it or not."
Nathan looked at the Chancellor. He had respect for the man, he had taken a job that was almost like teaching preschool children, for pennies. Nate had opened an easy way out, now the question was, would he take it.
[[OOC: Chris, I can write you a several paragraph reason for my basis on the Senate's current standing if you want. But you get to pay me back in some way later on. I'm not going to waste time writing something that you're just going to glance at. The general ghist is, even by this time period, corporations already have a large hand in politics, Czerka being one of the largest. Dantooine is colonized, it's goverment is weak and it has natural resources up the rear. A company owner would have to be a complete idiot to pass that up. Which means, therefore that they'd pressure their voters in the Senate. Senators are pressured, due to their contributors...do I have to spell it out any more?]]

Yevila rubbed his eyes with his hands, causing them to go a blushing red as he looked back up at Nathan, Senator Valore did have a moral point slavery wasn't allowed in the Republic and yet the Sith Empire wanted to force industrialization onto Dantoonine, with the support of most of the senate at this point. Slavery And Republic funny how they may be seen to educated eyes as one in the same. This wasn't independent government of ones planet it was a republic and as a Republic they were strong. Sighing heavily he looked over at Gwen who just stared off into space, so bliss to what was happening around her, the decision to either ruin or improve an entire planet, depending on ones views. Looking back at Nathan he spoke again, his voice low so that no-one out side there pod could hear.
"Such a mission would require a Jedi as protection for the Diplomatic Team...if there are...'persuaded' by force..."
Yevila didn't know who he meant, by the Sith Empire, or those from Dantoonie

[[Eh, Muck raking is and will be Muck raking, what can I say? Though I do read everything ;D]]
[glow=white,2,300]"I concur with this suggestion. But scandal and corruption run think in nearly every action of our hand. The only true and unaided commission cannot be made of party politicians.
I, for one, suggest an outside hand be issued in this case. I move to send a team of Jedi Knights, our champions of peace and respect, to be the ones who decide if it is in the best will of the Republic to move into Dantooine's resources.
After all, they are the defenders of the Republic and house the will of freedom in their very Order. And I believe that there are none present who will contest to the justness of the Jedi or their ability to act out of Grace."[/glow]
Now it was his opponents turn to watch his words. Nearly every planet represented in this chamber was in the debt of the Jedi Order, nearly all had been granted admission into their Republic by the sweat and blood of the Jedi. If he were to tarnish the respect of the Jedi, he would lose much of his unrelenting respect. It would only take one crucial flaw to take down the Felix that was Senator Nathan.

Nathan clasped his hands behind his back as he stood, he nodded towards the man with a tinge of a smile. The Senate's applause died out as he waited. The Corellian Senator gave a politician's smile.
"I would find it hard to believe, if any that currently abide in this chamber, would raise up arms in words or in strength, against the Jedi. Jedi are quite just, but since when have they been certified diplomats of the Republic? Has it not been stated by the Jedi themselves that they prefer not to 'dabble in the affairs of office'?"
Nathan shrugged, his cloak made the movement have considerably more emphisis.
"If the Jedi Council can be convinced to spare us a pair of Jedi for this diplomatic envoy, I have no qualms with it. But isn't overall, the Chancellor's decision even if an envoy is sent?"
Nathan looked at the Chancellor and sat down.
Good play. The ball is now in your court, the question is, do you have the strength even to weild it.
Nathan spoke without turning to the others in his pod.
"The Senate has to have a hand in the mission somehow, or they might as well take Valore's word on the subject." Nathan thought about it for a moment before looking at his datapad. "Yevila, you know anything about this Valore character?"

He stepped back a moment. This topic was well enough over and he sensed his opponent had silenced his side as well. Now the matter would be brought above both their hands. Well, above their hands in the realm of what was legal.
The Jedi would make the fair and just decision, now that would be biased on what the Jedi found once they arrived. The other senators may be able to pay some land owners to make a powerful cry for industry, or the sith could force them to give a false testimony.
He gave a silent prayer to the Force that the Jedi would not be swayed from Justice. As his pod returned to its resting dock, he could feel the hot glares of the Representatives who supported the industrialization. Rather than shy off he met the glares with a firm stance and an unwavering, calm disposition. For there were more than glares, he also saw the beaming faces of those who came from worlds like his, worlds who were being drained and polluted as they spoke. It was their presence that gave him the spirit to continue on his platform.
Now the senator took his seat, flipping through the pages of a data file to see what topic would next arise. He would need the moment given by the Chancellor to prepare and argument, if one was needed. It was possible that he would call a recess, this would allow him time to stretch his legs and get a cool drink.
The next article of debate was the kulto crisis. It was simple enough, he would support a motion to increase funding toward helping the people of Manann cultivate and produce the healing agent. He also would attempt a funding for the artificial creation of a more potent healing agent. This would likely spark the interest of the Banking Clan as they could get a stiff payment if they grabbed stock in the right medical facility.
He glanced back over the arena, a low mummer filled the chamber as Senators wondered if the Chancellor would allow this, or even if the Jedi would go. He gave an order for one of his attendants to make a meeting with him and the Jedi Council.

Yevila closed his eyes and Nathan asked him if he knew anything about this Valore character, in truth he knew a lot about many of the other senators, ones that would stand in front of the industrialization project the most he had brushed more upon during his research however that only took it so far, but with his knowledge it was easy to make people lull into meaningless conversation in which you could put up valuebale information.
"mmm, Ex-navy I believe... that may bring him some support since he served our republic also both his parent seemed to have died in the armed services although I don't know the specifics... After his time in the navy seems to have settled on Telos where I have no information on n him until he ran for senator... he is smart, not just one of these military dogs...and also has a strong sense of what's right and wrong..."
Yevila trailed off slightly, he doubted that anyone outside the pod could hear him as he stared across the huge senate room towards Valore, gripping his staff he turned back to Nathan.
"He won't be swayed to our side..."

((So has the vote been made for the convoy to Dantooine? Because if it has, then I can work that into the storyline very easily. Sorry about not posting, but Duranara isn't big on industry v.s. agriculture. He'll speak out later.))

Very well. A Jedi envoy will be sent to Dantooine., he looked down at a datapad for a reminder. The chair will now have an open discussion about the recent shortages of Kolto in the Galaxy.

(Ok, sooo, since pretty much nobody has anything to say about the kolto shortage, and since we need to keep this thread moving, what say you we move on to point number 3, since that should certainly help out here. Sorry, but I thought kolto might have gotten more important by now. No worries, if you guys want to discuss kolto, go ahead. If you want to skip to the Sith who are taking over subterrell during this very meeting, go right ahead.)

Nathan Hale leaned back in his chair, crossing one leg over the other before waiting patiently. The Senate chamber slowly grew quieter and quieter.
"The Senator from Corellia would like to bring up the issue of the Sith Empire." Nathan yelled.
The room seemed to quiet almost completely.
Nathan stood up once more and leaned on the front railing of the pod. "Where is the representitive of the Sith Empire, so that he may defend the expansionary actions of the people he speaks for?"

Aiden watched and listened, taking in everything around him. It was all so big, so grand, it nearly overwhelmed him. It seemed to make one timid; he had found himself unable to speak throughout the entire Dantooine discussion, although he should have. He had a duty as a Senator, he must fulfill it.
Yet timidness could not hope to overpower him when it came to the issue of the Sith Empire.
Inhaling deeply, Aiden took a second to prepare himself, and then stood.
"The Senator from Onderon requests permission to speak on the expansionary actions of the Sith Empire."

Vilar sighed. The Kolto discusiion had lasted less than forty five minutes. Very well. The Chair will now recognize the Senator from Correllia on the issues of the ezpansion of the Sith empire. He looked over to the Sith represenative and the Onderon Senator. We will then accept rebuttles and other statements. He sat down and folded his hands across his poduim, waiting for the bloodshed to start.

"A very simple question." Nathan looked around the giant chamber.
"Why?"
"Have we not been merciful in many ways to the Sith Empire, so that they treat us with such disrespect? Why do they continue to harass our ways and people?" Nathan stared at the Sith Embassador and shrugged. "I expect however, a very complex answer, for I feel the Republic's patience is quickly running thin."

Valore sat back, a growing smirk crossing his face. The hypocrisy of the Senate in full swing. Nathan supported the Sith cause when it came to the handling of Dantooine, but when the staked were raised above the livelihood of a rural planet, he fought full front against the Sith Empire.
Valore would cast his vote toward repressing the Empire in every instance. Seemingly, for now, the Corllian senator and himself were on the same terms. He scanned the remaining topics and found no articles of debate. Many of the remaining topics were tossups, meant to be brought up to settle lobbiest payments.
It was at this time Valore retired. He left his aide in charge and Yale would pick up and discussion that was brought up. For now, there were more pressing matters to attend to. He hoped to have a meeting with the Jedi, council with the leadership on Mannan, and recovery after border skirmishes.
