Species Name: Leogrec
Species Type: Humanoid
Planet of Origin: Gahvia (yet to be made)
Average Maximum age: 300
Age of Maturation: 30
Average Height: 6'5-7'1
Average Weight: 250-300 lbs
Physical Description of Race: (for lack of a picture)
Head/Face: The Leogrec are so named because their heads strongly resemble that of an african lion. The snout itself is a tad more dog-like however, and where the nose should be a brown horn protrudes in an upward and slightly backward curving manner, with the nose directly in front of it. Their ears are long and stand erect and pointed, but always tapered to the side of their head, much like the human ear. The ears are often mostly hidden behind a mane of hair. A majestic, goatee like tuft of hair often graces the chin. The Leogrec for the most part sport widows-peak hair and low foreheads, and square jaws with large, muscular necks. In dominant males, the canine fangs will escape the confines of the mouth and hang over the top jaw like the saber tooth tiger. Their eyes are always a silver-hazel color, and, like the turian, are forward-facing, because they evolved as predators. The Leogrec have stunning visual and olfactory senses
Body: The Leogrec stand about 6.5 feet tall, and weigh an average of 300 pounds. They are a bipedal, fur-covered species. Typically, a Leogrec will have very broad chest and shoulders, and a still wide but slightly thinner waist. Their arms are very muscular, and then they flare out to massive, club like forearms, much like the Silverback Gorilla. Leogrec still have paws, but their hand-paws have evolved into 4 very thick multi-jointed apposable fingers, which make tool wielding easy. Their foot paws are padded and flexible. Their legs are far more muscular as their arms, giving way to great land-speed. Although the Leogrec can run fast, their legs are much shaggier than their upper body., and as thus much of their visible, rippling, muscular physiology is hidden by what many will come to call "natural fur pants". There is also a bit more fur growing on the forearms than in other places. The leogrec have somewhat evolved from tails, leaving a small, often tucked stump at their rear.Leogrec have honeycomb abdominal muscles instead of a 'six pack', but these are hardly visible under fur. Females have four nipples instead of the male having none, for feeding litters. This is sometimes the only way to distinguish male from female without getting yourself murdered. at times one can see that females are often smaller and less muscular
Coloring: Originally, the Leogrec were a green-furred, smaller race. Then, they were an jet-black race with white markings. Now, their color has reverted to that of earth's lions of Africa, with brown, black, or in some very rare cases dark green markings. The markings tell of which "Brood" the being is most likely from. It would seem that their fur color changes with their environment, at first being green (jungle) then to black (underground darkness/cave), and then to dust-tan or light brown (rocky, savannah).
Life Span: 350-400 years
Breeding age: 40
Temperament/Average personality: Thoughtful and wise, but when in combat they are taken over by primal instincts and a severe adrenaline rush, and often the only thing that can stop them is a bullet to the brain, sometimes not even that. They are a very prideful people, and stick to their morals like cement. The Leogrec posess little sex drive, however, and only copulate to make children. There is a strong emphasis on family in a Leogrec mind, and parties and festivals are the main source of recreation for these creatures, followed by art, the Leogrec being a very fun-loving people. Even though they have little technology, they back down from no fight, and could kill a Wookiee in hand-to-hand combat. Thus, all Leogrec command great respect, and return such respect to their peers. Basically, when not in combat, They are a wise, honorable, respectful, respectable, fun-loving race.
Other Biology:
- Regenerative brain, concussions don't last for more than 5 minutes, and many head wounds fix themselves
- very strong sense of smell and hearing, eyesight often fails after age 250
-Cells multiply efficiently, slowing the aging process.
-Adrenaline rushes often cause innocent deaths, what is called "Bloodrage" among leogrec.
-Large heart, venerable in combat if a direct hit is taken to the chest.
- Spinal problems common due to ancestral cave existance
-Green blood from original ancestors still carried
- Carbon- based species, Gahvia very similar to earth atmospherically
- Reproduce sexually, male to female.
-Males more common than females.
- Have vocal chords capable of producing speech, but also bones in throat that make a strong and fierce roar or subtle growling possible.
-Voices are often deep and powerful
- Evolve Relatively quickly to their surroundings, the Race can see a complete physical turnaround in half a million years.
-Leogrec are carnivores, and they hunt by running down their prey and beating it to death.
History: two million Years from the current date, the ancestors of what are now known as "the Leogrec" roam the jungle-world of Gahvia. They are an incredibly advanced people, not yet achieving space flight, but still very advanced, their once extensive culture and technology is long lost. They were an adamantly spiritual people, unyieldingly supporting beliefs in Gods long since forgotten. Literally the entire race was united under one religion, and one nation, a true utopia. One momentous day, the Leogrec astronomers discovered that an asteroid was going to impact Gahvia in 20 years time. The astronomers, skeptical about the religion that the whole planet followed, began construction on a massive tunnel system, to house the leogrec and plant/animal life of Gahvia, (it is still not known how some astronomers could possibly accomplish this, some infer that astronomers were very wealthy members of society, and were pioneers of new technologies which brought about skepticism toward religion). When the cave system was completed, the Astronomers had one year to round up believers out of the 4 billion Leogrec on Gahvia. Out of those 4 billion, a pathetic one thousand joined the Astronomer's cause. The prophets of Gahvia told their people that the astronomers were blasphemers, and that the asteroid approaching was a long anticipated Godsend that would transform Gahvia for the better.
On the day before the Leogrec were to pile into their cave systems, the prophets ordered a cleansing of the heretics, and a small battle ensued near the secret tunnel entrance. After all the animals had been loaded, the Leogrec spent a whole day fending off tens of thousands of attackers, and when there were just 50 males and around 100 females left, the leogrec retreated into their tunnel, and the ravenous, crusading hordes returned to their holy places to embrace a 'great transformation'. The asteroid struck, and eradicated all life on Gahvia. except for one small group of plants and animals...
For the next five hundred thousand years, the Leogrec lived entirely underground, constantly expanding their cave network, afraid to exit to the surface for fear of what they'd see. They taught their young to never let religion or industry get a hold of them, and all records of old leogrec culture were erased from the history books, and most items were destroyed. Fire was used for lighting, and cave walls were reinforced with pillars of stone. The only thing of the old society still standing was a nuclear powered oxygen filter that kept all the leogrec and food-mammals alive. All other things were built by hand, and underground tribes or broods formed. They were all descendants of a Highfather, or one of the original 50 males that entered the tunnels, and that is how they named themselves. By the time 500,000 years underground rolled along, the leogrec were near-sighted, and hunched over black furred mole-like beings with white markings living in a complete technological standstill, right where they started, living off stone floors and walls, and always taught that the natural way is the best way. All of that changed, however, when a blind old Leogrec named Myrckand-Haug bumped into a strange object and knocked himself out.
"SOMETHING PROTRUDES FROM THE WALL!" he exclaimed upon awakening. When others came, they couldn't believe their eyes, after a thorough check in old ancient teachings of Gahvia biology passed down from the highfathers, they confirmed it to be a tree root. It was time to resurface, and resurface they did. The Leogrec, now 2 million strong, emerged from their tunnels to find a semi-arid world of rolling, grassy, 'savannah' plains and rocky mountains, with scattered massive trees cris- crossed by many rivers that empty into one central sea(the impact sight of the meteor). The race for the first time in 2 millions years, separated, and explored their new world. They found massive herds of gargantuan elephantine beasts and herbs that cured disease and healed woulds on contact, they found that the trees carried wood stronger than rock, and metals that could be converted easily to liquid form with fire and then used as coating for wooden weapons, they found precious gems, minerals, and more. Not all the tradition and doctrine in the world could prevent this race from progression. for the next 1.5 million years, the Leogrec thrived, keeping the tribal system of their forefathers, yes, but developing new technologies every single day. They evolved into modern Leogrec, hunting and adapting to the new environment. Soon they developed Broodlands, or one of 50-city-states that dominate modern Gahvia. They are ruled by the members of the 50 Broods or Tribes, and are an evolutionary step in society for the Leogrec. Although industry was still forbidden, and manual labor was still promoted, the wood-hut cities did emerge and expand, and this meant war. Soon, war was a common occurence on Gahvia. Power struggles, land-grabbing, politics, whatever one wants to call it. Like many other sentient beings, there was no escape from the pursuit of continuity and power.
The Leogrec now stand at 2 billion strong. They are still a primitive people compared to other galactic races. They are divided into 50 Tribes or 'Broods' who all live in their own respective city, or somewhere close to it. They still must hunt for their food, and hand-make everything, the fires of industry are forbidden, and for the most part Gahvia is almost perfectly naturally preserved. One day Corellian cruiser came across a totally new system on the outer rim, and discovered that one of the planets was inhabited by millions of beings. It was time for a first encounter. The corellians sent envoys to the Leogrec, and, amazingly, were not attacked. They studied each other for 11 years and oon the first day of the 11th year the corellians spread themselves out to all 50 broodlands, and had a celebration, which also brought the broken broods closer together, and closer to uniting once again. Little did the corellians know that they had landed in a peaceful Broodland, and if they had landed in a not-so-peaceful Broodland things would have been much more different. Nevertheless, galatic people were in harmony with the Leogrec, whom they found to be an extremely likeable people. For 15 years, Gahvia was not reported to anybody but a few select representative groups for the Corellian Government, and the crew who found and now, guarded it. The Corellian envoys and the Leogrec came to an understanding that the Leogrec didn't want to change their ways, but a partnership would still be healthy. So 50 envoys, one from each of the Legorec broods coruscant where they studied galactic races for another 4 years, and began to learn their languages. The Leogrec and the senate passed the law that only one small outpost per race was allowed on Gahvia. At any one time the entire planet could unite, and having an army of 1.5 billion against you isn't quite that easy to handle. It is a wonder what could be in store for the youngest of Newly discovered galactic races, a race that shows no desire to advance technologically, but still a great desire to explore. These are some of the fiercest, mightiest, most primal and brutal fighters in the galaxy.
Recently, with the Leogrec, being catapulted onto the galactic stage by the corellians, The Broods have decided to unite once again. The entire planet is now at peace, but without a single government or monarchy, and with Leogrec leaving the homeworld to pursue galactic life (most likely in the pursuit of gold , gems, or other fine goods) who knows how long this loose peace will last.
Culture: The Leogrec have always believed that industry and organized religion are wrong. They also believe that all must work hard in order to achieve greatness. They live in large cities, but in buildings made of rock, mud, or wood, with no organized streets or civil services. They hunt for their food, and use melee weapons and ranged weapons called Geytand, which allow the user to fire metal spikes at bullet speeds using just natural physics. They make superb music and meals, and the average Leogrec loves a good time. The leogrec are adept biologists, studying the many creatures of gahvia, and having great respect for all wildlife, only taking what they need from it. Leogrec realistic art is also a great visual wonder, with cave murals that look like photographs and hand-carved stone statues that resemble real life. They usually wear just what look to be robe bottoms, but are really the furs of beasts they have killed. In the winter months, they wear top clothes as well. They find precious gems and the teeth and claws of rare beasts and make necklaces out of them. The Leogrec love their trinkets. The elders are wise storytellers, and they preserve the writing of the underground Leogrec through their own stories. All Leogrec Share the same written and spoken language. The Leogrec are all adept outdoorsmen as well, because at age 20 all Leogrec must live in the wild away from their broodland for 5 years. If they do not return, then they aren't strong enough to be a member of the race that has survived it all. Also, the Leogrec, being a formerly utopian race, do not beleive in debts. if they do somthing, it is either for themselves or for the brood, and if they are helping the brood, then they are helping themselves. All things are done and built free of charge, but only because they bring satisfaction to the participant. They all help one another. This, however is not to say that Leogrec are without faults or crime.
Technology: The Leogrec have very simple technology. They use simple, improvised tools to get tasks done. There are 2 common weapons, a wooden, stone-studded club (resembling a cave-man club) which every Leogrec must make him or herself, and the Geytand, which is 2 long, bow-like peices of wood tied together in an X formation with a string attacthed to each end, the four strings meet at a piece of leather from which the user pulls back the projectile and launches it. A very nifty weapon. all of this manual labor makes the Leogrec the extremely physically powerful race that it is today. The Leogrec can smelt metals to coat wood and stone to strengthen them, and they mine precious gems. They use the sap of the clubwood tree (as the humans call it, the stronger than steel wood that the Leogrec make clubs from) to bond differnt materials like stone and wood or gem and metal or gem and wood. its the ultimate super glue. Leogrec architecture is pretty simple, they live in either flat-roofed wooden huts or round-topped clay huts or beast- skin edifices. They get around by walking, which means that communication between broods can take a long time
Society: The Leogrec consider themselves all brothers and sisters, equals, but when descisions need making, the elders are typically the ones looked to for advice. Its as simple as that. The Leogrec value racial unity more than anything. The Broods currently are united as one race, and each brood has elected a partiarch, one of the wisest elders of the brood, to represent their brood when all broods meet to discuss issues. The patriarch takes the issue back to his brood, gets a general consensus of what the people want to do, and then the broods re-meet. As previously stated, the broods mostly live together in their respective broodland, each broodland containing roughly 40 million people, a few million of those living in a city, but most living with their families on their own. Crime is dealt with swiftly and brutally by the victim or family of the victim. "Receive a fist return a fist" is a popular Leogrec Proverb. Leogrec are named by their parents, and use very eccentric-sounding names like Juhaga, Navakri, and Waloteck. Their surname is determined by their markings, which tell the highfather they descend from. The brood name is only used to adress other brood members, or members of the brood whos name they do not know.
Military Power: 1.5 billion male and Female Leogrec would spring into action if the planet were attacked, and most of the 40 million memebers of a brood would go to battle for a brood mate unless some outstanding issue caused hate between one another. When the Leogrec fight, they are extremely hard to kill, going into an overcompensated adrenaline rush that doesnt stop until the combat or the Leogrec's heart rate slows, but makes them 3 times as strong, and allows them to preform amazing physical feats. They often pounce on their opponent and maul them with fist or club, it has yet to be seen how this fighting style will do against modern warfare. There is currently no organized government, and as thus, there is no organized militatry.
Faith: Because religion was the downfall of their race, most Leogrec have forgone organized religion, but because of the need for most sapient beings to believe in something more, many Leogrec hold a belief in a spirit world to which Leogrec go after death if they have been great in their lives. It is a somewhat ego-driven belief, but it gets the job done. Once again, there is a lack of organization here.
Feeling Towards humans: The Leogrec and humans have developed a strong friendship, both admiring each others values and way of life.
Feeling toward other galactic races: Naturally, the Leogrec are still warming up to the other races and are still somewhat skeptical and are still learning of all the galactic beings. This is all very new and confusing to them.
