Its so sad. I just want to cry. I hate Sony so much for destroying my game. It could have continued to be wonderful. It could have continued to be great. *sniffs* But no... its just like this... www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejQQaqkfkNk

Dood, SWG was a fundamentally flawed MMO, released into a flooded market of much better MMO's that people already have. I'm sorry, but you simply can't compete with the likes of Ultima, Everquest, Eve, and most importantly, WoW. Not to mention, that the jump to lightspeed expansion was too little too late, the game's reputation was already beyond marred by the horrendous combat and movement systems. Not to mention the sub-par graphics, buggy servers, and lackluster support up here in the great white north, the game was half baked at the best of times and a black spot on the once great developer called Lucasarts. Could it have been good? Hell yes. But, as most dev's do these days, they took something that should have been simple, and changed it, completely cocking the thing up in the process.
Unimaginative game play, Unimaginative story, and Lackluster support. I'm surprised the game lasted as long as it did. It was a perfect example of why most games based on movies fail. The developer wants a quick buck , and to ride the wave of the movies release, they develop a game and it usually means a ride straight to shittytown. Its a sad reality that the number of devs that are actually using more than three braincells these days has dwindled down to ID, Valve, and Ubisoft.
Frankly, I'm happy to see it go. I hate MMO's with a passion, and believe they are a cancer that is killing every other type of gaming. Like , c'mon, look at it this way. Why would a devloper spend millions of dollars on slapbattlefight XXIV with full 3d up the arse when they can get millions of people to pay 15 bucks a month for a cheap-looking and feeling game that costs pennies to dev?
I can hear it now "but Conman, it must cost more to dev an MMO than a shooter!"....Think people. You can't sit there and tell me that Blizzard, in their ( at the time) giant-ness, tossed away millions of dollars more on WoW than Valve tossed away on the Source engine, and Half Life 2. MMO's are money grabs, and always will be. Cheap to devlop, cheap to support, and they make the company millions , if not, billions more each year in profit, for almost no work, then people VALIDATE this by saying they are going to miss a game.
To them, all I have to say is BUY THE ORANGE BOX, AND PLAY PORTAL. Its the best game ever made, and if you don't agree then you all must be stupid.

I can agree with all that... But only after Sony got their hands on it. Before the CU.. before the first CU the game had some nice vision, and I enjoyed it immensly.

ehh...I unno...I was never really a fan, I played it during beta and was soso on it. I didn't hate it, but its certainly no Eve, or Tabula Rasa ( new MMO, I actually don't hate it either, played the beta for a bit, and it wasn't THAT bad).

There was alot of reasons I loved star wars galaxies and am looking forward to the development of SWGEmu (It's coming along nicely and we are expecting it to go live really soon). It was my first MMO. I love Star Wars, and prior to my discovery of Wookiepedia, it gave me a much closer look at the Star Wars universe and lore. It also gave me a closer look at the one obsession I've had since as far back as I could remember: TUSKEN RAIDERS!!! ( I had 4 full suits of tusken clothing in that game, complete with gaffi and rifle. I spent a lot of my newb days at Fort Tusken, and spent my entire game career in one pair of those Tusken clothes. It also provided with a few looks closer into Tusken diet, if only implied). But admittedly the multiple changes the Devs made to that game were the demise of it. I agree with Conman that MMOs are clogging up the market, and having played a few of them I have ended with disappointment at them all. There was never any end to them for me, never any way of getting to the top and that disappointed me the most. No matter how hard I tried and no matter how many hours total I spent they were always releasing patches, updates and expansions, ironically right when I was so close to getting the highest level, skill, or whatever as if they knew that was something I wanted and kept it far from me, just for the sick pleasure. I'm a nostalgic kind of guy, and with the release of the Emu to the servers, I will imediately start playing once again. Hope to see a few of you in game.

i'm going to play the one and only SWGEmu. They're not quite sure if they will be hosting their own server yet, but I'm quite hopeful it'll happen. Other than that I'm willing to find any good community that runs loyal to the SWGEmu development team.

I never played the game but I always wanted to get into it if I ever decided to play MMOs again. After D2 became wicked outdated I couldn't really get into any. Tried Wow and neverwinter nights but I didn't like either of them. If SWG becomes popular again, i'll probably be buying it.

Well see, get the game for the sake of playing the Emu. Believe me, you don't want to play the abomination they're trying to front now.
The skill system and everything is just too over done.
The Emu is great because it brings back what they took away from the purists. It also allows more say in what us, the fans want from the game. If the server won't listen to us then it will quickly become unpopular and we'll just move to one that meets our demands. POWER TO THE PLAYERS!!
It'd be really nice if we could get a good portion of the site to play it, that'd be something really special. It'd be great way to lure other fans of Star Wars to our site as well.
And after all; "The site that ganks together stays together."

I never played the original, but I'd get in on some SWG action if I get a computer that could handle the game without going into convulsions.

Man...I had to leave SWG shortly after the hologrind-fest had finished and they started with alternate ways to become Jedi. I remember them starting to cut down the Jedi powers then and all the Bounty Hunters had been castrated too. Pity for me. This SWGEmu looks really interesting and if I wasn't stuck in Afghanistan with a 2 bit satellite internet system for the next 3/4's of a year, I would definitely get into it. The original SWG was great...shocked me to see what has happened since I left.

I played Guildwars. Had a TON of fun with it. A P-3 1.0 Ghz machine with a Radeon 9600 can play it on almost max graphics with 30 FPS. Seriously. Great looking game, well designed.
I upgraded recently [thank YOU exbabylon] to a really kickass computer but I'm still against paying monthly. I tried WoW on free servers, had fun for all of about a month. Got bored.
I'm planning on getting back into GW when #2 comes out. I'm so far behind in expansions currently, it just...wouldn't be fair.

Anyone play Mass Effect? I have it and just got Xbox Live, and I hear you can go multiplayer on there. If so, does anyone want to play online? My Gamertag is Ardenator2000, so if you play Mass Effect, Halo 3, Battlefront or whatever else drop me a friend request so we can play sometime.

Mass Effect is a great game. The side missions get a little repetitive with driving the Mako everywhere, but the main plot, while short, is very poignant. I'm definitely looking forward to the next one in the trilogy.
I agree with Myn though...it's a single player RPG...I don't know how you would play it online multiplayer.
Of course...this has me hankering to go through KOTOR again. Sith Lords was all right, but I don't feel like they wrapped up the story very well in that one. Seemed rushed.
All deviations aside, anyone know how soon the Emu is going to be fully operational?

I have Mass Effect too now apparently. Ironically just a week prior I was ranting about how much I had a distaste for the game. Apparently my relatives didn't know this, so now I have a copy of that AND Bioshock, another game I didn't particularly like or want to play. Funny how every time I brood hate and piss and moan it always comes back to bite me on the ass.
What do I do with the games I don't like, but get anyway? Well. I use them as mouse pads. I use them for target practice. I use the cases for dinner plates. I use them for that new game smell, but I have to wear mittens every time I want to open the case or I'll get the radiation all over my hands... I use them for propping up that one short leg on my coffee table, and last but not least, I use the game manual for toilet paper.
I did however get Halo 3. But sadly I don't have Xbox Live so you're not gunna be able to see your favorite Mod in action.
The Emu should be coming maybe if we're lucky in Summer or Fall of '08. Possibly Christmas time or so. If we're lucky though things will go faster now that they've gone open source. And don't worry about being able to play it. I got this computer right around the time it came out, so anything newer should run it pretty smooth. I remember I had dial up when I played it too, so...

True...but the satellite has a tendency to drop me at times. I'll be looking through websites or go to Google and it will say "Page Not Found." Yes....Google could not be found. Usually takes about 5-10 minutes for it to right itself, the modem to reacquire and lock the signal, and then I can surf again. Considering that it happens roughly every 30 minutes and if I played SWGEmu for an hour, I'd get about 40 minutes worth of play, minus load times.
If you liked KOTOR, I'd suggest giving Mass Effect a shot. I was with you on Bioshock, but my buddy got me to try it out. Not one of my "Top Ten of all Time", but interesting enough to play. I get bored quick with FPS though anyway.

I've also recently got Live. Anybody got Crackdown? I've been trying to find someone to co-op with that I at least know online. I'm still a bit mad about having to beat the game over again. On the plus side, there's new downloadable stuff that's free! I need to get my copy of Halo 3 back as well. That's what happens when you loan games that you've beaten out to your friends. All I have at the moment is Quake 4 and Chromehounds. And the war is winding down in C-hounds.
Oh, and I go by The Unbound. Because I hate having numbers on my name.
