There are a few other things that happen in between Kotor II and the prequels. There are is the next Jedi Civil War... They could do a one where its right before the Prequals by say 100 years or so where your Darth Plagues and hideing from the republic... *shrug*
Lots of possabilities.

why not just playing revan and the exile against the true sith out in the unkown regions?

2 things. 1: the true sith have been extinct for millions of years. 2: Darth Plagueis was right before Sidious. Thats way after the KOTOR series takes place.
