Faction Name: The Collective
Faction Purpose: The Collective is a criminal organisation with its hands in an array of criminal activities, most notably Spice cultivation where most of the wealth of the Collective comes from. With a war between the Republic and the Sith looming ever closer, the Collective is a band of opportunists who feel this is great chance to profit off the confusion that war brings by selling arms and battle droids to both sides of the conflict, as well as dealing in more high profile crimes whilst the republics attention is focused on the Sith.
Faction Planet: Ambria
Financial Wealth: Wealthy. The wealth of the Collective is made up of two halves. Firstly, the combined asset of Julius' lavish wealth from being a prominent Republican politician and Archduke of Kor Vella, to the Corellian Enterprises (A shipbuilding company) that he owns and is CEO of, to finally his more illegitimate businesses that he dabbles in from blackmail to smuggling spice. The other half of the Collectives wealth comes from Fawkes, who's empire is a collective of the more notable Crime Lord's on the Smugglers Moon. The Collectives wealth is gained through the various criminal actives that they are involved in, mainly; Swoop racing tournaments, crooked pazaak dens, a dozen Cantina's, a few brothels, kidnapping of local business men, slave trading of the vagrants in Nar Shaddaa, racketeering of the local businesses, and spice smuggling into Nar Shaddaa. However, when The Collective takes over the Ambria Spice Mines then Fawkes will concentrate his efforts on smuggling Spice and slave trading, rather than concentrate on the small-time criminal enterprises he was involved with in the past.
Military Assets: The Collective maintains a small planetary stand-in force of mercenaries on Ambria. By no means enough to stop a large-scale attack from the Republic or the Sith, but enough so that Fawkes can get off-world. Generally the Collective hires Mercenaries to fight for them when needed.
The Collective also owns a few small freighters for transporting "Cargo" of various sorts, from spice to slaves. They also own one small Cruiser (550m) named The Leviathan which is kept in orbit around Ambria, and is used mainly for hit and run missions and protecting the freighters whilst their delivering cargo.
Form of Government: The Collective is made up of three rings of authority, the Inner Circle(The leaders), The Outer Circle(Specialists) and Consultants(Hired muscle/specialist):
The Inner Circle= There is the inner circle, who are the board of directors of The Collective made up from the leaders and investors of the crime lords of Nar Shaddaa. At present the only director is Fawkes and Julius and the other crime lords of Nar Shaddaa who have invested in the Ambria project. There can be any number of Directors and they are in charge of everything from the resources of the Collective, to what direction the Collective will take, to who will be promoted into the Inner Circle.
The Outer Circle= The Outer Circle is for "Consultants" who have proven their worth or their loyalty to The Collective through any number of means, from doing more than their mission objectives required, to donating their ships and men to the cause of the Collective. The Outer Circle is generally made up of consultants who have proven themselves loyal to the Collective and who generally have their own ship and crew, or are particularly talented in a certain skill. They are generally put in charge of their own missions and are given higher rewards and bonuses than other consultants.
Consultants= "Consultants" are those that do not really have any affinity to the Collective, and are hired because they have certain skills that the Collective has need of. They are paid per mission, and once the mission is complete, there tie to The Collective is finished. If a consultant continuously proves their worth to the Collective they are generally let in to the Outer Circle.
Faction History: The Collective was initially a small swoop gang of a few dozen people, known as “The Thirteen” Fawkes however didn't want to spend his life scraping for credits on the swoop track; he wanted to have a true criminal empire. The first stage of his plan was to unite the smaller Swoop gangs together, through the only method he knew how, gambling. Fawkes rarely lost a bet, mainly because he never played a fair game. He would challenge the other swoop gangs to private swoop tournaments, usually spending months on designing new gimmicks for the track that only he and the Thirteen knew how to overcome. The gimmicks were the kind found in crooked pazaak dens where it seemed like there was an element of skill involved. There wasn't. Fawkes boasted to the others of a massive prize of credits and slave girls to any racer who could beat his racers in a bout of three. Fawkes' racers were under orders to let the other gang win the first race building there trust and then on the second race to just beat the other racers and then on the final race to go all out. The rival gang leader would usually leave in disgust at the amount of credits they lost on betting, Fawkes would then choose the best swoop racer from the rival gang and offer them a place in the Thirteen’s. With their confidence knocked from just being flattened, they rarely turned down the position. Of course things did not always go to plan and occasionally somebody found out the nature of the race would have to be bribed or killed, but that was the nature of the pit and even though most knew that the gimmicks were near impossible to beat racers still tried their hand at Fawkes tracks so that they could have the privilege of being the one who beat it.
Within a few years Fawkes had used the credits he had won from gambling to invest in other forms of illegitimate business like crooked pazaak dens, racketeering and brothels, creating even more revenue for the organisation. With the Thirteen becoming increasingly wealthy by expanding into other gangs territories it didn’t take long for other criminal enterprises to become interested in the Thirteen. There immediate reaction was to send thugs around to beat up Fawkes so he would go back to wherever he came from, but Fawkes was tough and never went out alone, so he managed to give the thugs a good run for their credits. After a blaster shot scarcely missed his ear in a local cantina Fawkes decided to change tactic's against the other crime lords, instead of trying to take over there territory he would work with them.
Fawkes realised that working against other crime lords would only take away resources in costly territory wars, where as if they combined there resources they could become more involved in high-profile criminal actives. Fawkes called a conference with the crime lords, and explained that there was criminal operations that were remaining untouched because they required co-operation. Slave trading for example could return a massive profit, but would require more funds in bribes and transport than any one organisation of thugs could afford. Co-operation was almost unheard of between different enterprises, but if it could return a profit without causing costly territory wars then they were interested.
The Thirteen gradually became more involved with other criminal organisations in the bigger criminal activities like kidnapping, spice smuggling and slave trading, until the point where the crimes where co-operation was involved was returned the highest profit. With the gangs working together on so many high cost actives, it was seen as counterproductive to also have territory wars with that same gang, even going so far as to protect them from other rival gangs who were not involved with The Thirteen. The general populace of Nar Shaddaa had no idea what was happening, where once there were usually at least three gang wars on at any one time, now there was none. Smaller gangs whispered about how the gangs were a Collective now, if you attacked one of them you attacked them all. The name stuck and to leave his swoop racing days behind, Fawkes dropped the name of The Thirteen and insisted on being called Mr. Fawkes and what had once been the Thirteen was now known by all as “The Collective”.
Inevitably, Fawkes drew the attention of the Hutt's from his successful criminal cartel and the other Criminal Lords began to become lazy, only giving there credits to Fawkes in these ventures rather than giving their minds. With the Hutt's trying too groom Fawkes into being their next krath hound and his Collective's power wanning, Fawkes began to look for a way to break away from Nar Shaddaa and begin his Criminal empire in earnest. This opportunity came in the form of Julius. Lord Julius, the prime-minister of Corellia and a notable Crime Lord and dark-side user came to the young Echani and offered him a proposition. Take over the Ambria spice mines and combine their resources so that they could create a true criminal empire. It was an offer Fawkes couldn't refuse and the two became the first Lord's of the True Collective.
