Name:Visari Netellus/Lord Phaestus
Race: Epicanthix
Age: 64
Height: 6'1''
Weight: 170 lbs.
Appearance:
And this would be his attire when fighting in the war or in some other sort of situation where armor would be beneficial. That's not what his face looks like, I'm just going for the outfit here. Not my picture. Here's a link to the artist.
Despite his age, Visari stands straight and tall. He's very much a megalomaniac, though it is subtle, hidden beneath a very calm, cruel shell; but for someone that knows him, or has a keen eye for such things, his ego is apparent. While you can tell he's old, he is not nearly as aged as one would expect for a man of his age, in part due to the fact that an Epicanthix lives longer than a human does. His skin is moderately toned, with a few very faint lines on his face. He has a lean, lithe build, and he's in good shape for a man of his age. His full head of hair went white long ago, and he keeps it trimmed short. He keeps a neatly trimmed white goatee around him mouth and chin. His eyes are a striking emerald green, and posses a sharpness that speaks of a great amount of shrewdness. He has some scars that cross his torso from his younger days, though none are visible when he's fully clothed.
Visari wears a fine black long sleeve shirt with a bit of decorative gold scrollwork at the ends of his sleeves. Over that, he often wears a smokey grey vest, with the Netellus family crest emblazoned on the left breast in gold trim. His trousers are a the same smokey grey, and he wears Rancor-leather black boots. A fine leather belt sits on his waist, with a holster for a pistol on his left hip. The pistol is for show more than anything; he's not the best shot, but he keeps his lightsaber hidden out of necessity. Visari wears a fine long (a little longer than knee length) coat black coat that has gold scrollwork on the ends of the sleeves like his shirt. A heavy silver signet ring sits on the ring finger of his right hand. If someone else other than him wore it, it would just be a ring with a flat surface, but through a trick of the Force, when he wears it, it reveals the seal of the CEO of his corporation, Visari Enterprises. He always keeps a thin cane of polished silver with him. Its purpose isn't support when he's walking - he can walk just fine - it is to conceal his lightsaber. The cane has a false top that can be opened in an instant with a touch of the Force, and his lightsaber is kept inside.

Tabula Rasa Years 0-8
Visari was born to Jean and Dena Netellus. His family was very wealthy; his father was the owner and CEO of Netellus Arms, a privately owned weapons company stationed on their homeworld of Panatha. Dena was a well known, well like reporter. One would expect that all would have been well for Visari, with being born into a well-to-do family. But alas, it was not. Jean had problems with paranoia, and always thought that there was someone plotting to take his company away from him; Dena had a terminal illness, and was almost always too sick to help in the raising of the child, though she tried as best she could. So, his father spent the bulk of his time hidden away in the corporate offices of Netellus Arms, and his mother was usually sequestered away in her room, dying.
Fortunately for Visari, his parents (his mother) at least had the sense to hire someone care for the child. They employed and man named Nevak Onin. Nevak was an old man, with a great white beard and thick bushy eyebrows. He was a big man, but had a kind voice, and gentle hands. He would prove to be a good mentor for Visari. As the boy grew older, Nevak began to teach him basic things; language, arithmetic, a bit of culture; the things that the heir to a corporation would be expected to know. But Nevak also started to teach Visari things that were more moral in nature; what it was to be a good person, kindness, chivalry, and more than anything he wanted to tech Visari to trust, to keep him from becoming the same terrified waste that his father was.
For a time, all was well, at least in Visari's mind. He was approaching seven years old, and seemed to be showing the fruits of Nevak's labor. He was a kind boy, though he had a problem with arrogance that Nevak labored (unsuccessfully) day and night to rid him of. But other than that, he was a good kid, and intelligent; he took his studies seriously and progressed quickly because of that. He was happy, as one would expect a young boy to be and his parents,(even his father, when he wasn't crippled by his paranoia) were proud of him. But things as they were could only last for so long.
Dual Disasters Year 7
The first disaster struck a few months before Visari's seventh birthday. The illness that his mother had been battling for so long began to worsen. She would spend more and more time locked away in her rooms, but the family's hired medical staff could do nothing for her. As things got worse, she was taken to the best hospital on Panatha. Visari's father, who had been away on Coruscant for business purposes rushed back to Panatha to be with his wife. The person that was the worst off was Visari. He didn't completely understand everything that was happening, but he understood enough. His mother was dying. Nevak and Jean tried to shield Visari from the worst of it - from her hemorrhaging that grew worse as time went by - but the boy wasn't stupid. He could make out that his mother was suffering, and he was very, very afraid.
To add to the situation, Nevak also fell ill while Dena mother was in the hospital. The illness that he suffered was not as bad as what if mother had been afflicted with, but even so, it would be the end of the line for the old man. Nevak was too old, his body to weak to fight off the illness. Visari didn't know what to do. He loved his mother; she had tried as best she could to be good to him, even though the disease made it very hard on her. He loved Nevak as well, though. The old man had been his mentor, and in the face of his father's incompetence at raising a child, had be more of a father to Visari than Jean had. The thought of losing both of them kept him from sleeping well, if he got any sleep at all, and during the time that they were in the hospital, the signs of his stress started to show physically; he started to get thinner, and his eyes always seemed dull and listless.
Finally, on his seventh birthday, the disasters struck. Early in the morning, early enough to still be called night, the illness finally claimed victory over his Dena. Around the middle of the afternoon on that same fateful day, Nevak passed away in his sleep. Visari almost went mad with grief. The two most important people in his life were now gone. Visari's personality is not one that handles a deep loss well, and these were more than he knew what to do with. However, Jean, in one of the few times where his mind was clear, went to his son to comfort him. He promised Visari that Nevak, who had no family left, would be given a place of honor among the Netellus family's private burial grounds. He promised his son that he would make up for his own failures as a father would be there to raise him into a good man, to help Visari avoid some of the mistakes that he himself had made.
The funerals were held on the same day. Dena was buried with the rest of the Netellus family while Nevak was buried on top of a hill on the burial grounds. The hill was tall, and was topped by the oldest, strongest tree on the lands. Visari would often spend time at the top of that hill, which he would go on to call Nevak Hill, and eventually, it would become his place to go when he needed to think about something, or to be alone.
For the most part, his father made good on his promise. He spent much more time with Visari, and continued the education that Nevak had started, though with less focus on building moral character than Nevak, and more on building intellect. Visari started to build a bond with his father, but ultimately, another mentor was coming that would end up replacing his father.
Discovery Year 7
One day, a Grey Jedi by the name of Karen Missaes. She was a Miraluka, and in her early forties. She had been visiting Panatha when the Force drew her to the Netellus family compound. She was almost refused entrance, but when Jean heard that she was a wielder of the Force, she was allowed in. The pull in the Force led her to Visari. He was Force sensitive, and once she was in the boy's presence, she knew he would one day be strong, if he was allowed to be trained. She told this much to Jean. Jean was apprehensive about this at first; Visari was to be his heir and carry on Netellus Arms after him, and even more, he was afraid that something would happen to Visari and he would lose him like he did Dena. After a few hours of talking a deal was reached. For Visari's first year of training, he would remain on Panatha. Karen would be provided with a place to stay, and all of her basic needs met. In return, Jean would be able to keep an eye Visari's training, and continue to prepare him for the world of business. Once the year was over, if he decided to allow Visari's training to continue, he would allow Karen to take Visari offworld, though only for a short time at first; he wouldn't allow Visari to go on longer trips or missions until he was older.
And so Visari's training began, and Visari got to learn that Karen was a harsh master; she wasn't cruel, but she was merciless in her training. Things were simple at first; you have to be able to walk before you can run, after all. Karen started by teaching him how to open himself up to the Force. This was the only thing that she focused on for a very long time; if Visari could not wield the Force effectively, then there would be no hope for him. Luckily for Visari, things that had to do with the Force came naturally to him, and he learned quickly. As his training with the Force progressed, Karen introduced rudimentary lightsaber training to him, first teaching him how to hold it without killing himself, and then moving to the classic practice with remotes. He struggled a bit with the lightsaber, but Karen was relentless with his training, and Visari was determined to please his father enough to be able to continue his training when the year was over.
At the same time that his training with Karen was going on, his father stepped up Visari's education. In addition to the teaching that he provided himself, he hired some of the best tutors on Panatha, no matter their cost; no price would be too high for his son. Visari's learning continued to accelerate, and he constantly pleased his teachers with his sharp mind. Everything was going well, and when the year was up, the decision was made.
Visari would continue to learn the ways of the Force.
The Ways of the Force Years 8-14
Visari's training continued, though largely in the same fashion as it had. He still only knew the basics, and Karen continued to lay down a very solid foundation for him to learn from. His lessons with his tutors continued, and day by day he grew stronger, both in mind and in the Force. Even at such an early age, and at such low levels of learning, he showed an astounding proficiency for handling the Force. Karen even admitted her surprise at his ability to learn her lessons on the Force so easily. Now let me be clear: he wasn't some god-child that could take on a master; he wasn't even anywhere close to being able to start to think of that. But, for his age, and for the fact that he had only been trained for about two years, he showed a remarkable amount of progress. His lightsaber lessons left a little to be desired, though. He wasn't terrible, but compared to his amazing progress with the Force, they were a bit... lackluster, to say the least. Visari had never been a very strong boy to start with; he preferred strengthening his mind more than his body. Karen would have no excuses for it, however. In order to try to correct this, Karen shifted their training time around. Instead of spending most of their time on training with the Force, she swapped the balance so that most of their time was spent focusing on learning the basics of using a lightsaber. Visari hated it. He complained to Karen, who would only respond by saying that if he wanted to focus more on the Force again he'd have to get better with a lightsaber. He complained to Jean, who told him that he'd have to trust in Karen's instruction. He even complained to his tutors, who told him there was nothing they could do. In the end, the only Visari could do was do as Karen asked and focus on his lightsaber training.
It was rough. When he turned ten, Karen stepped the training up to include the beginnings of Shii-Cho, the most basic form of lightsaber combat, and the foundation of all the other form; sher reasoning that because of the way Visari struggled with lightsaber training, he'd have to start earlier and spend more time on the basics in order to stay on par with where he would need to be later on. Visari struggled with it, but he is nothing if he is not persistent, and he started to make progress. At the same time, his studies started to pick up and become a bit more advanced, and his father started to show him a little bit more of the basics of business and economics. Visari also started to receive lessons on leading, because in order to run a business, he'd have to know how to lead people. To Visari's relief, he was better at the newer lessons than he was with a lightsaber.
As time marched on, Karen's methods and steadfastness finally began to bear fruit. By the time Visari was twelve, he was starting to show signs of learning his lightsaber lessons easier. Karen once again shifted the proportion of time that they spent on lightsaber training so that it would now be equal with the time they spent training on the Force. Visari's big advances continued to be in the Force, as Karen expected, but now she at least had faith that he would one day be able to use a lightsaber with some degree of success. At this point, she told Visari that he had satisfied her with the basics of lightsaber usage, and he would start to learn more of Shii-Cho. His academic lessons continued to advance along nicely as well.
It was during this time that Visari and Karen started to develop a bond. Visari was now becoming old enough to be able to understand that even though he didn't always like the ways that Karen pushed him during their training time, it was for his own good. As such, he started to respect the Miraluka more, and as time went by, the two of them would grow to be very good friends.
But finally, shortly after Visari reached the age of fourteen, the time for his first venture off of Panatha with Karen came.
First Flight Years 14-18
The first mission that Karen and Visari would go out on was a simple one. After leaving the Order, Karen had become a sort of Jedi-for-hire, seeking to lend a hand to those that needed it at her discretion. She had a friend on Alpheridies that asked her to find out and pursue a man that had killed her father. She accepted gladly, and Jean was let Visari tag along, claiming that he'd need to get off of Panatha and see the galaxy for himself. Karen had her own personal craft, a small thing that could be operated by one person. The Netellus family had let her keep it in one of the family's private hangars, and Jean had made sure that workers kept it in top condition. Karen and Visari loaded up onto the craft, and Visari said his farewell to his father. It would be his first time leaving Panatha, though certainly not his last. Jean bid Visari farewell, and told him to make the Netellus name proud.
And so they went. They landed near the home of the family, the Vasens. When they arrived, they were greeted by Misami Vasen, the Human that hired them. Her father had been an old veteran, and moved in with her after he retired. She lived with him and her daughter, Kamea. Two weeks prior to Karen and Visari's arrival, a man had broken into their house, seeking to steal from them. He was unaware that they were in the house at the time, and Misami's father tried to fight him off. But he was old, and the man was armed; he killed her father and escaped while they were trying to keep the old man alive. So Misami, who had known Karen for a very long time, called on her for aid. They had an idea of where the man was from. A few years ago, there had been a dispute between the Vasen family and a family of Miralukas. Misami was a merchant, and the Miralukas claimed that she had intentionally sold them a faulty product to make them come to her for repairs or a new one. The Vasen family denied the claims, or course, and after a while, they were able to get the issue sorted out. But the man that thought himself wronged held onto a grudge, and Misami believed that the break-in had been an attempt to get back at the family. The Miraluka man lived a few miles to the north, away from anyone else.
Karen and Visari stayed for the night and planned to head out in the morning. However, that night, there was an attack. Apparently, if the culprit was indeed the Miraluka, he wanted Misami dead, because a bounty hunter showed up inside the house. He was a Duros, and not really that good of a bounty hunter; Karen and Visari were easily able to unarm him and restrain him for an interrogation. Karen interrogated the man as Visari watched, and was not at all to use pain as a means to get information out of him. It turned out that their suspicions were correct, and the Miraluka, a man by the name of Aldyn Cyll, was behind the attack and the break in. He had attempted to break in with the hopes that he could take the amount of money (or enough items to equal it) that he felt that Misami and swindled him out of. After the failed attempt, he hired the Duros to simply kill Misami. Misami was of course outraged that Aldyn could still hold on to a grudge after so many years, and Karen offered to go find him and bring him to her. Visari suggested waiting at the house for a while to be sure that there wouldn't be any more attacks. After he said that, the Duros informed them that Aldyn was very poor, and had offered almost all of his money to him for the job; he had even paid some beforehand to make sure the job got done. Aldyn would not have enough money to hire another hunter, and on top of that, the Duros thought he seemed odd, like something had corrupted his mind. Karen noted this, and said she'd look into when he was found.
So the next step was planning. They weren't sure where Aldyn would be; they didn't know if he'd stay at his home, or if he'd try to strike out at Misami once again. In the end, Karen and Visari would split - Karen would head out to the location of Aldyn's home, and Visari would stay with Misami and Kamea, in case Aldyn slipped by Karen and made it back to their home.
So, while Karen was off hunting, Visari found himself with a bit a free time. He did what he could to keep up his training by himself, but he was curious about the his new surroundings. So he spent some time off looking around, venturing out onto the land around the house, though not going too far out; his objective was still to protect the family. He also had time to notice Karen's daughter. She was fifteen, a year older than he, but that didn't matter to him. She was nice and witty, and she dreamed of one day traveling the stars as a merchant, like her mother. Now this was all well and good for Visari, and he truly did like Kamea for who she was, but as a boy in puberty, there were certain things about her that interested him more than others. She was pretty, and our young boy, who hadn't had much exposure to the opposite sex, other than Karen (who was FAR too old for him)and his mother (that's just nasty), was infatuated. Kamea found this all very amusing, as did Misami, but she liked Visari, so she humored him.
All in all, Visari's part of the mission went very smoothly. There was no attack from Aldyn, so after a while, it turned into waiting for Karen to return. When she did, she had interesting news. Aldyn had, in fact been out of his mind. She had tried to reason with him, but in the end, she ended up having to kill him after he attacked her. What's more, she had felt the dark side very strongly around him, but not from him. She suspected that someone had been meddling with him, but for what purpose, she knew not. She didn't know why what she was assuming to be a Dark Jedi would have any need to off Misami, other than for the sake of being malicious. Visari and Karen stayed at the Vasen house for a few more days, watching to see if something else would happen.
The night before they left, Karen took Visari on a walk out onto the plains outside the house. She told him that she had taken notice of how his crush on Kamea. She told him that love was something best left alone, and then told him her story. Years ago, she had been a Knight in the Jedi Order. However, when she was still in her twenties, her heart was stolen by a young man. Her teachers warned her against it, telling her that love could lead to pain or even darkness, but she was young, and thought that their ways were the ways of those who never knew love. So, after a period of friction between her and the Order, she left, believing with all of her heart that what she felt could only lead to happiness. She was a fool. For a time, she was happy. But one day, her love was killed. He was killed by a man that he owed money to, but refused to pay, claiming the one he owed money to stole his ship, and until it was returned, he would not pay. The pain that she felt at her loss was worse than any physical pain she had ever felt. For a time, she feared that she would kill the man that killed her love in a blind fit of rage. Even now, the wound left by that loss still festered, and was the first thing she thought of when she awoke and the last thing she thought of before she went to sleep. So she told Visari to let his infatuation with Kamea go; it wouldn't be worth it, and to avoid such bonds in the future. They could only lead to sorrow. Visari said that he would keep her warning in mind, and try to take the lesson to heart.
The next morning, the two left Alpheridies and returned to Panatha after the completion of the mission. Visari's father was thrilled to hear that it had been a success, and was quite amused at Visari's descriptions of Kamea. After they spent some time resting, the routine returned to normal, with most of Visari's time dedicated to training with Karen or learning from his tutors. As the training pressed on, Visari started to have an easier time with lightsaber training; it seemed that he was a late bloomer in that regard. Shortly before he turned sixteen, Karen started to teach him Niman, in addition to their work with Shii-Cho since she felt it could work best for him. It would give him any specific advantage in combat, no, but it would make sure that his skills were balanced, and with his strength in the Force, if he could hold his own in a lightsaber battle, he'd be fine. Karen also started to teach him the basics of Force Deflection. She claimed that sometimes, as a businessman, he might not have access to a lightsaber, or if there was a sudden assassination attempt on him, he might not have time to reach for his lightsaber and wait for it to activate. At first the going with this new power was slow, as one would expect, but as time went by, Visari started to grasp it. During this time, Jean ramped up Visari's learning, introducing deeper economic lessons and business law to the mix of what he was already learning. Things continued along smoothly during this time; Karen and Visari even went on a few more adventures off of Panatha. Finally though, when Visari reached the age of eighteen, the time came for him to construct a lightsaber.
To Build a Lightsaber Year 18
The time came when Karen received word that there was a man with a rare crystal that he was willing to offer in exchange for a bit of help. The man lived on Taris, and claimed that he was being harassed by a group of local group of thugs. For a time, he had been able to deal with them, but they started to ramp up their measures, and eventually stole his speeder. He called on Karen and Visari to take the thugs out. Karen accepted the offer and she and Visari made their way from Panatha to Taris.
When they arrived, they met with the man for more details as to what would need to be done. He was an elderly man, and had the look of one who had traveled the galaxy a great deal. He wanted Karen and Visari to get the thugs to leave him alone; he didn't care if they worked out a deal or if they were killed, as long as they left him alone. So the two got to work. They headed to the lower city, where the man said that the thugs resided. After spending a few days getting their bearings and searching around, they were able to find the hideout. The thugs were led by a Gran named Ulong. Karen and Visari allowed themselves to be 'captured' by Ulong's group in order to get to him without having to massacre his thugs; they wanted to avoid conflict if possible. They were taken to his presence, as planned. When he asked why they had been snooping around in his turf for the last few days, they told him that they had been hired by the man that was being harassed, and were seeking an end to the conflict, either through a deal or through violence. Ulong was, of course, very amused by this and made a counter proposal. He offered them a very large amount of credits if they would simply turn on the man and kill him. Visari vehemently rejected his offer, refusing to betray the man that had hired them with trust; Karen agreed, and the Gran's deal was turned down. This miffed the Gran very much, and he ordered the two to be killed by his men.
Then things got ugly.
Karen broke out of her bonds with a powerful wave of the Force that sent all of the thugs flying and then freed Visari. Visari, thinking quickly, tried to use a Mind Trick to dissuade Ulong from the course he was on, but Ulong would not be fooled, and Visari's effort only made him angrier. Karen and Visari prepared to fight, going back-to-back. Then the fight broke out. Ulong's men attacked, assaulting the two with blasters. There were quite a few of them, and the Jedi had to split up to get to something that offered a bit more cover, but they were able to start thinning the thugs' numbers. Visari was faring well, and he was rushed by a Togruta with a vibrosword. He prepared to meet his foe, wielding the yellow lightsaber that Karen had given him to use until he built his own. The two had a short duel, since the Togruta's blade had a cortosis weave in it. Visari was able to overcome the Togruta through a combination of better skills and his power in the Force; he slammed his foe's head into an exposed beam in the ceiling with a powerful Force push before cutting off the Togruta's sword arm. As it become more and more evident that the Jedi would not be felled by his men, Ulong fled to the back and locked himself into his private room. Karen went to the back to get him while Visari stood watch outside to take care of any more thugs that would try to come and intervene. Then the droid came.
It was massive; it had been used for construction before the thugs got their hands on it. Over the years they had modified it heavily, adding weapons to it and increasing its armor. Visari took up his blade once more and prepared to fend off the droid, or at least hold out long enough for Karen to arrive and help him. Things went poorly from the start. Visari got to find out that the armor was too heavy for reflected blaster bolts to do any damage, and the droid was too heavy for his current skill in the force to be able to throw around much. He tried to close in on the droid to cut it with his blade, but that just lead to him getting thrown back into a wall. After his head cleared, he was barely able to get up and out of the way before the droid's foot slammed down into where his head would have been. He renewed his assault, but it still lead nowhere. Once again, he tried to close in, this time from behind the droid to cut one of its legs. He almost succeeded, but the droid was deceptively fast. It spun around, slamming one of its huge arms into Visari and launching him across the room. His saber fell to the ground at the droid's feet from the surprise blow, and his arm had been hit in such a way that it ended up broken. Visari watched groggily as the droid carelessly crushed the lightsaber and started to advance on him. He reached out in the Force to Karen, but unless she was very fast, she wouldn't make it in time.
So there Visari was, unable to fight the monstrosity before him and barely able to move. Deep down in his heart, he believed that this would be the end of him. Fear surged through him. He needed to do something, but what? As the droid closed in on him, the fear got stronger, until suddenly, he reached out in a final desperate attempt to stop it. He wasn't completely sure what he was doing, he just knew that the Force was surging through him, in a different way than he had ever felt before.. The droid was stopped in its tracks and lifted into the air. Then, Visari slowly started to close his fist, and the droid started to compact in on itself. Visari continued to squeeze with the Force, and before long, the droid was too deformed to continue to operate properly. The exhaustion of the battle then hit Visari, and he passed out.
When Visari awoke, he was on Karen's starship. His arm had been casted up Karen had patched up numerous cuts around his body. When he asked what had happened, Karen told him that she had taken care of Ulong, and felt Visari's fear more than the call he sent out in the Force. By the time she made it back to him, he had disabled the droid and was laid out on the floor. For a moment she had feared that he was dead, but she was still able to sense him in the Force. From there, she had carried him back to the old man's place and used some medical supplies from her ship to patch him up. It would take time for his arm to heal; healing wasn't her forte, and the broken arm was beyond her abilities. When Visari asked about what he had done to the droid, Karen went silent for a moment. After a heavy sigh, she told him that he had used Force Crush. What he had done had been sloppy, and he hadn't been very efficient with it, but it was there. She told him it was a power often associated with the Dark Side of the Force, and he would need to be careful to control his emotions to prevent further outbreaks like that; she feared that it might happen again, but to a living being, or even worse, to a noncombatant. Now, Karen wasn't opposed to killing when needed, but she did not want Visari learning a power that was known for causing a great deal of pain before killing the victim, so she refused to teach him more on it, even though she could use it herself.
Visari informed Karen that the lightsaber she let him use had been destroyed by the droid, though she already knew that. She told him it was okay, since such things happened from time to time; besides that, it was time for him to build his own lightsaber. The man had given her the crystal that he promised. It was one of the rare Durindfire crystals, known for giving lightsabers a silver color. The old man had come across it years ago during his travels of the galaxy, when he had made a stop on Tatooine. He hadn't known what it was; he had a feeling it was valuable, and thought Karen could perhaps sell it for a good bit of money. She gave Visari the crystal and told him that he would have to spend time meditating over it to bond it to him. Once that was done, he could begin the construction of the lightsaber. Visari gratefully took the crystal and went to the back of the ship to start meditating. He turned it over in his hands, looking at it. It had been worn smooth over the years, but it still had a brilliant luster to it. He could almost feel the Force flowing through it, and as the meditation began, that feeling got stronger.
His meditation continued after their return to Panantha and stretched out over the next three weeks. Once that was done, the construction began. It took about a month and a half, and was rife with failed attempts, but Visari was able to get it done. The completed blade was a point of pride for Visari. It wasn't an ostentatious work, but it was well made. It had a black core, with a silver overlay [picture in the lightsaber section]. The silver blade that emanated from it was the best part for Visari. He knew from Karen that silver blades were rare, and he was very proud to have one of his own.
Hubris Years 18-22
Visari's training time with Karen started to head for a close. He was nearing mastery of Shii-Cho, was doing fairly well with Niman, and his proficiency with the Force continued to advance. It seemed that perhaps having his own lightsaber offered increased motivation to improve in blade-to-blade combat, because his progress started to pick up. But for the first time, Visari went against Karen's wishes in regards to his training. Whenever he felt he could do it without getting caught, he tried to practice Force Crush. The work he did was slower than it would be with an instructor, and he wasn't even sure if he was learning it correctly, but he did what he could. One night when he was twenty, he was caught.
It happened when he was out training away from the Netellus family complex after a late rain. Karen had been looking for him followed the Force to him. She watched him from afar for a few minutes, hoping that he wasn't doing what she thought he was, but the truth is not always pleasant. Visari sensed her presence, but too late; he had already been discovered. Karen upbraided him severely, telling him that learning such things could lead to a lot of trouble for him if he used them with the wrong intention. On top that, if used against a living being, she didn't feel that there could be a right intention; the only way such a power could be used was with the intent to cause a great deal of pain or to kill. But Visari had started to get a little arrogant. He countered, saying that he wouldn't fall victim to his emotions, and that he had enough judgment to be able to keep from using the ability when it wasn't needed. Karen told him he was a fool and threatened to end his training if he did not stop trying to learn such things. For the first time, Visari got mad at Karen. How could she tell him that? She knew how to use the power herself! She had ignored the warnings of the Jedi Council to follow her own path! How could she try to tell him that he had no right to learn such a thing after what she had done? And worst of all, how could she even dare to tell him that he wouldn't be able to control himself when she hadn't been able to control herself in her youth?
Karen was quiet for a moment. The only thing she told him was an almost whispered "You know nothing, Visari," which was followed by more silence. Then she told him that she would be leaving the next day; his arrogance was too great, and if he would not listen to reason, then he would have to learn for himself. She would not be responsible for the training of a monster. She then turned to leave, leaving Visari to feel as if he had been punched in the stomach. He didn't get any sleep that night; he was torn between his urge to learn the new power and his desire to finish his training with Karen. She had been a good teacher for him, and the thought of leaving on such a bad not made him taste bile. Before the sun rose, he knew what he had to do. He rose with the sun to get to Karen before she left. He caught her as she was leaving her quarters. He apologized to her out for his outburst, saying that he had lost control of himself, and added that he now understood what it was she meant when she said that it was dangerous to lose control of himself. He told her that he would give up his curiosity in learning Force Crush, and that she was right. Karen was once again quiet for a long moment as she thought. She told him that she would stay and finish his training. But if she ever found that he was still trying to learn that power again, against her wishes, she would leave.
And so the learning continued. But from that day, the relationship between Karen and Visari was different; it was strained a bit, and Visari could tell that Karen didn't trust him as much as she once did. But time heals all wounds, and for a time, it seemed that their relationship was on the mend. Visari finally mastered Shii-Cho when he was twenty-two, and was proficient with Niman. He was also quite strong in the Force, and had a great knack for using the Force to influence other people. Shortly after his twenty-third birthday, Karen told him that he was ready to be on his own. He would now be able to handle himself out in the Galaxy, and that their time together was coming to a close. She told him that despite the Force Crush incident, she was proud of him, and that she believed he would go on to great things. But, before they went their separate ways, there was one more mission for the two to go on; one that would change Visari forever.
Loss Year 23
During the years after their first mission, Karen had quietly been trying to find information on who the Dark Jedi was that could have corrupted Aldyn to such a degree. At first, it seemed like the search would lead nowhere, but she was dogged in her work, and as time passed, a trail started to emerge. From what she could gather, he was an Echani that went only by the name of Nero. He seemed to be quite insane, and had a record of corrupting the minds of his victims before killing them. Her information pointed to him being on Farrfin, and she was going to track him down and kill him. Since Visari was no longer under her tutelage, she asked if he would go along with her. He gladly accepted.
The two arrived on Farrfin and started their search. The amount of crime and corruption on Farrfin made it hard to search for Nero, and for a time, they just ended up going in circles. After a days, though, a clue came up. A man reported having met with someone that called themselves Nero a few days ago, and gave them directions to where the mysterious man seemed to be heading. Once they got there, they spent a few more days searching for Nero, and the same thing happened; another person that claimed to have met with the mysterious man sent them on towards him. The pattern continued on for about a month, and Karen and Visari were slowly being led north, toward a small industrial complex. After a while, they started to suspect that they were being led into a trap. They didn't know how right they were.
The day came when they encountered Nero. He fled from them, and the two gave chase. They were lead to an old abandoned factory, and there the fight began. Nero knew the place better than the back of his hand, and he used that to his advantage, suddenly appearing and striking out at the two Jedi with the Force. They were able to fight him off, and as they moved deeper into the old, dark factory, it seemed that they had the upper hand. And then Nero set his plan in motion. He struck out once more, this time using a powerful push of the Force to fling Visari away from Karen. Before Karen could do anything, he slammed her into the ground and broke her saber arm. Then, as Visari was getting up, he picked up a large piece of metal and flung it at him. Visari was able to stop it and returned the favor, sending it flying at Nero. Nero stopped it, and set it to the side. Karen tried to reach out to stop him with the Force, but Nero blocked her attack, and broke her other arm in return. Then, he scampered away. Visari ran to Karen, and tried to get her to a safer location, but then Nero returned, this time with a Force collar. He swatted Visari aside once more and snapped the collar around Karen's neck. The scream that came from Karen's throat still haunts Visari's nightmares to this day.
You see, a Force collar would be a bad enough thing to use on any Force-sensitive, but because Karen was a Miraluka, its effects were even worse. The world went black around her as her connection was abruptly severed, and all she felt in its place was a cold emptiness. Visari's silver blade sprung to life and he tried to get to his teacher to sever the collar, but Nero met him with his own blade before he could get to her. And so the two fought. Now, despite his initial troubles with a lightsaber, Visari had still grown to be a dangerous foe with one, but it was still not a strong point for him. To add to the problem, Nero was an Echani, and had trained much more than Visari in the ways of blade-to-blade and unarmed combat; he was about ten years Visari's elder, too. So, Visari was beaten. Very badly. But Nero only hit him to hurt him, not to kill; he used shiim touches against Visari many times, not to mention the brutal strikes he landed with his hands and feet. End the end, Visari was defeated, and collapsed before Nero. But Nero did not kill Visari. Instead he used the Force to bind Visari so that he would not be able to move (not that he'd be able to with his injuries) and Visari was forced to watch in horror as Nero turned his attention to Karen. First he simply toyed with her, flinging her about with the Force as she screamed in terror. Then, after a while, he started to hurt her more, flinging her harder into various objects in the factory, and beating her with his hands and feet. After he seemed to get bored with that, he got out his lightsaber and went to work; first, he'd just drag it along her skin, but only hard enough to cause a great deal of pain, not to cut off anything. Next he started to cut of things, starting with her fingers and her feet, and then moving onto larger things. Visari thought he would go mad. He screamed and yelled for Nero to stop, but the Dark Jedi only seemed to bask in the pain he was causing. Once he had had enough with Karen, he lopped off her head with a single, casual stroke.
Rage flooded Visari, and he was able to break out of Nero's bonds. The Force flowed into him, fueled by a mix of hatred and sorrow; he was so enraged that he was able to ignore the wounds that Nero had inflicted upon him. He struck out viciously at Nero, trying to use the Force Crush ability that had come to him years ago. But time without using the power had caused what proficiency he had with it to fade, and his attempt was unsuccessful. Nero turned to face him, and after another short struggle, Visari was once more on the ground, with Nero's boot on his chest. As Nero crushed the air out of his lungs, Visari asked why he had done what he did. Nero only sneered at Visari, and then told him he thought it would be fun. Visari asked if Nero was going to kill him, and to his surprise, Nero shook his head. When Visari asked what he was going to do, he only replied "I have plans for you, Visari. But for them to come to fruition, I need you to live." Before Visari could ask what he meant, Nero knocked him unconscious.
When Visari awoke two and a half days later, he found that he had been deposited into Karen's vessel outside of the factory. Nero's words and the sight of what happened to Karen echoed in his head, and he dragged himself to his feet, suddenly very desperate to be off of Farrfin. As he made his way back to Panatha he thought in silence. What did Nero mean? Did he know more about who Visari was than he thought? Had he known Karen was chasing him from the very beginning? He couldn't think of any answers. The only thing that he knew was that he hated Nero and he very much wanted him dead.
When Visari arrived on Panatha once more, he was greeted by his father, who immediately rushed him to get medical attention, though not much could be done. The wounds left by Nero's lightsaber would leave scars, and the bruises would heal in time. But Nero had done more than mere physical damage to Visari. He had left some deep emotional scars, and Visari was never quite the same from that day. he was colder, and almost seemed obsessed with getting some form of revenge on Nero. He spent a great deal of time on Nevak Hill, but he could find no peace. So, he took up training himself with Force Crush once more, wanting to learn anything he could for the inevitable reunion with his nemesis. After a few months, he told his father that he would be leaving Panatha for a while. He didn't know how long he would be gone, but he would wander the galaxy, seeking out new powers that he could use to kill Nero.
So he left, out on his journey to seek power. At the time, though he didn't completely realize it, he was teetering on the precipice of the light and darkness, and by leaving Panatha, he left the door open for Nero to come in and push him over the edge.
Lost and Damned Years 24-27
Visari wandered the galaxy alone for a long time after the events on Farrfin. He changed, turning into a much rougher, crueler man than what he had been. Now, the man that had often tried to avoid getting into fights had no problem beating the daylights out of someone, and oftentimes when he had been drinking a bit too much in a cantina, was the one that started a fight. Though his search for ways to get stronger was his sole goal at first, as time passed, he started to lose hope, and turned his anger outwards. Though he didn't want to admit it, Visari was hurting, very badly, and that pain was sliding him ever closer to the Dark Side of the Force. What happened to him on Farrfin left a wound, that even to this day, has yet to heal completely. So, for a time, he was little more than a wandering thug, picking fights, hoping to find something that would help ease the pain inside of him, but all that gained him were a few new scars and that same feeling of hollowness. It only got worse as time rolled by, compounding up like a snowball rolling down a hillside, until one day, a bit of fortune finally came his way.
It happened when he made a stop on Taris. He was quite drunk after leaving a cantina one night; a common enough occurrence. As he was making his way back to the place he was staying in, he was confronted by a group of thugs that wanted his money. Well, Visari certainly wasn't going to have any of that, so in a drunken rage, he whipped out his lightsaber and the fight was on. There were quite a few thugs, about ten, and Visari's drunkenness wasn't helping any, so he ended up getting roughed up quite a bit. But he was able to kill some of them and the rest were scared off. As he started to stumble his way back to his place, he passed out from his drunkenness and his injuries.
When he awoke, he was greeted by none other than Kamea. Her dream of becoming a merchant had come to be, and she spent her days traveling the stars, selling her wares. She sold mechanical things; ship parts, components for weapons, etc. She found Visari about an hour after he passed out, and could tell that he had been drinking. With the help of a local man, she was able to get him into a speeder and onto her ship, where she was staying. The two spent the rest of the day talking, catching up on what had been going on over the last ten years. Kamea had left Alpheridies when she turned twenty, and had been a merchant ever since. Visari told her about his training, his lightsaber, the adventures he had gone on with Karen. When Kamea asked how Karen was, he told her about the disaster at Farrfin, though he left the more disturbing details out. Kamea gave him her sympathy, and then he went on, telling her about what had gone on in the year after Karen's death, and the things that he had done. Things that he was suddenly very ashamed of. He told Kamea that more than anything, he was afraid of what would happen to him if Nero found him again, and he didn't know what to do. After a few moments, Kamea offered that he could travel with her, to be a guard of sorts. She could defend herself, but Visari would be a better guardian, and it would be good for both of them to have some company. Visari accepted without hesitation.
And so the two were off, traveling the galaxy. Visari picked his training up again, and more than once had to fend off ne'er-do-wells that wanted to take advantage of Kamea. For the first time in over a year, Visari was happy. He was slowly starting to move on from Karen's death, though he could never forget it, and his fear was starting to fade. What's more, as the two traveled more and more, the relationship between them started to grow from friendship into something deeper. Visari still had that same attraction to her that he had in his youth, and as she spent more time with him, Kamea really started to take to Visari. All was well, at least for a time. But, as fate would have it, all would not stay well.
After traveling together for three years, the pair made a stop on Panatha. Kamea had never been to Panatha, and after Visari's stories of the beauty of the planet, she decided to stop by. They landed in one of the planet's cities, about fifty miles away from the Netellus family complex. They stayed for a few weeks, and everything was fine. For once, Visari didn't have to fight off any thugs, and Kamea was finding that her business did well on Panatha. They were happy. And then, disaster found Visari once more.
It happened one rainy night when the two were out and about after a long day of work. Kamea had sold the rest of her wares and they were making preparations to leave. Visari had suggested stopping by his old home to see his father, and to introduce Kamea to him. Kamea thought it was a good idea, and so they would visit the Netellus complex the next morning before heading out. As they were leaving a restaurant after spending the night together, Nero made himself known once more. As the two were walking down the rain-soaked street, something made Kamea drop the bag she had with leftover food in it. When she turned around to get it, she bumped into a tall man in a dark, hooded cloak. Something about him made Visari's hackles rise, but he wasn't sure what. As Kamea bent down to pick up her bag, the man grabbed her by the shoulder and straightened her up, pulling her into him as he did. He said only "Jean Netellus sends his regards" before his red lightsaber blossomed through her chest. Visari's heart froze. He knew the voice immediately; it was Nero. His silver blade was in his hands before he could think about it, and he stared Nero down. Nero let Kamea drop to the ground and casually told Visari it was good to see him again. Visari rushed Nero, but Nero simply bound him with the Force, and told Visari that he was a hired man, acting on orders from Jean. Visari vehemently denied this, saying that Nero was lying. Nero told Visari that if he was lying, he would have been able to sense it, and if he didn't believe him, he could go ask Jean himself. Then Nero put his cloak's hood back up and vanished into the night, leaving Visari bound until he was out of sight. Visari rushed to Kamea, who was barely still alive. He tried to heal her, but his healing abilities were meager, and he knew there was nothing he could do. In desperation, he called out to the people that had formed a circle around them, begging for someone, anyone to help. But no one even moved to do anything other than offer sympathetic looks. And so, with rain pouring down on him and tears blurring his vision, Visari watched Kamea die in his arms.
Something inside of Visari died with her. Though his personality had taken a change for the worse after Karen's death, the loss of Kamea broke him, as one extra push can shatter a glass filled with cracks. No longer would he be the kind, if a bit headstrong, man he had been. No, the only thing that he would become was cruel, and cold. He fled Panatha, wanting to be away from the place that had now come to bear so much pain. Visari did as he always did in such times: he wandered from place to place. But this time, as he wandered, instead of trying to get over what happened and letting the wounds start to heal, he let them fester, feeding off of his hatred. As time passed, he started to reflect on what happened. Had Nero spoke the truth? He didn't know, but he'd have to find out. So, he devised a plan. He'd return to Panatha and seek out his father. If what Nero said rang true, and his father was behind the murder of Kamea, he vowed that would take what his father held dearest from him, as his father had done to him.
Race: Epicanthix
Age: 64
Height: 6'1''
Weight: 170 lbs.
Appearance:
Alright, that's the closest image that I've been able to find so far to the way I imagine Visari in my head, though, since his species ages slower than humans, his face would not be nearly as lined as this man's is. But the goatee, hair, and general features of the face are pretty close to my mental image.

Years 0-8
Tabula Rasa Years 0-8
Visari was born to Jean and Dena Netellus.
