A healers life is a simple game of hurry up and wait. For Mal Konti this was not so, he always tried to busy himself with research or tending to the younglings teach each the basics of healing. He had come to see how many in the order were very much lacking in basic first aide.
Giving leasons of first aide and field work was getting to be more of a need as the war progressed. Breaks, deep cuts and sealing of amputations were the first things on the advanced list of skill sets, while burns and organ repair often were second because they took much time and focus to achieve.
The mid-day classes had ended and the more advanced classes were about to start these consisted of dealing with major problems, split focus healing and rapid poison removal. Only those who showed the most potential and focus were allowed to stay. Mal was trying to rest for the next three hour course. His energy was slowly coming back to him as he drew upon the force and allowed the pain to heighten his focus.

Well.
He hadn't been invited, not to either of the classes, not that he minded, but the small, blue-skinned boy was mildly...and that was putting it lightly, in some of the advanced techniques of the Light-Side's Healing specialty. Running a hand through pitch-Black hair, he raised an eyebrow, watching some of the students of the Mid-level classes leaving, and slipping in right behind them, sneaking into the back of the classroom.
He wasn't trying to become a healer, but his Master, Meira, had mentioned once before watching a healer work, and being amazed at their skill, and for Jon'Arichi'kotokk, this was just one more chance to learn something new, to fill his young mind with information that he hadn't possessed before.
Slipping to to back of the room, he took a small pillow out and sat upon it, waiting for the instructor, oddly enough of the Hutt race, to be ready for the next class set. He hadn't thought about it much, but had seen very few Hutts in the Temple, always assuming that they were there on business with the Jedi Council, or something similar to that.
At the boy's waist, clipped to a thin, cream-colored belt, twin hilts shone with polish, his sabers, so lovingly crafted on Ilum, fitting his hands perfectly, their blades gorgeous in his eyes...which glowed a soft red. The Chiss, although he didn't know this, lived on a planet with a lower Oxygen level, and when exposed to higher Oxygen environments, their eyes would glow brighter and brighter. Here, they were a simple dull glow, just enough to set him apart from the other Padawans.
While Meira was away, she always encouraged Arichi to learn more, to experience what he could. She knew his preference for the Force. It wasn't that he was unwilling to use his Lightsabers, when needed, but when she had asked once which of the Forms were the best, he had quickly answered with "Form Zero", the non-aggression route. Great things were in his future, this he was sure of, and if knowing some of the Healing techniques, even in theory would help his Fellow Jedi, he was more than willing to sit through instruction.

Sherasti Rin walked slowly through the corridors of the Jedi Temple, on her way to sit in on one of Mal Konti's lessons. It was part of her recovery from the injury she'd sustained the better part of two weeks earlier, when she'd fallen through a duct and wound up with a laceration deep into her side. The Togruta Jedi Knight had almost died from the blood loss, but luckily for her, her Padawan had been there to save her life. Since then, she'd been deemed recovered enough for light activity and her forays out from her quarters had grown more frequent.
She only had the slightest twinges in her left side, though it still felt a little taut and stiff when she bent or stretched. And she had no desire or ability to practice her lightsaber combat.
However, she could observe one of Mal's lessons. She had a great deal of respect for the Hutt healer. Taking on the challenge of helping the insane grey Jedi Halc Greimer rebuild his mind was a brave move. She respected the time and effort he put into his calling.
And of course, she also had him to thank for giving her proper medical attention. Xell was a great Padawan with a good heart, but he wasn't a professional healer. Her stitches had needed to be undone, and infection dealt with. But once that was all done, she'd been given the best prognosis for recovery. Not even a scar.
But the experience had persuaded her she needed to bolster her own healing skills. They were... minimal. Certainly a little practice wouldn't hurt at all. Of course, she had no idea what level of skills showed up to the classes. For all she knew, there would be nothing but young Padawans. But she was still likely to learn something.
Silently and unobtrusively, something surprising given her looming six foot height, the Togruta Jedi entered into the room, her bare feet making no noise at all. She came to rest leaning against the wall, surveying the room with her violet eyes.
There was only one other occupant, a young boy with blue skin like the tone of the stripes on her lekku, and eyes as red as her own skin. She'd never seen anyone or anything like him before. She held up a hand and waved, flashing him a small smile. One small enough that her fangs stayed behind her light lips.

Although he had his eyes closed he could feel all those in the room his classes were giving him a force sensitive touch. Most healers had this after weeks of healing or having to teach advanced classes. Now Mal could feel the suttle force changes as if very one was screaming at him.
Pain. He could feel pain in the room. It was from a nervous system that seemed to have been dealing with it for quite some time. So upon opening his eyes and dropping his focus he made out a familuar face in the now shrinking crowd. Sherasti Rin friend and former paitent of his. She had all but gutted herself if it had not been for her padawaan she would have bleed out in no time.
In a booming voice of deep basic-Would all please come down to the front the next class will be a smaller group and you will need to see the efforts and technique up close.-smiling-Even those who are not stong enough to attemp this work should come closer to get a better view.
Mal smiled in the direction of the young Chiss who was trying to sneak in. Mal did not mind Healing arts were not limited to just the knights or masters. If the young-lings knew how easy they had it by just learning the sabers they would be thinking of themselves as untaught ones in the Jedi Order. All needed to know every route that the force has to offer not just the protection with a blade but protection via learning.

Annnnnd....
He'd been noticed.
Arichi supposed it was only proper that he had been, young as he was, especially considering the strength in the Force required of the Master Healers in the order, it was still somewhat disappointing. He hadn't wanted to impose, nor did he expect to leave here able to really heal much of anything, it was more of the theory behind it that the young Chiss was interested in.
In any case, the boy decided to move closer to the Hutt Healer, wishing that his master had been able to come to the classes as well, so that he might have been able to probe her with questions later. While she wasn't a healer, she was wise, especially in his eyes, in the ways of the Force, and could have answered a few questions pertaining to the techniques used.
Even so, the other Jedi that had entered the room had also noticed him, and while he didn't exactly blend in, he had hoped that he had been small enough to escape most notice. Ah, the folly of youth. Thinking back as he moved forward, he realized that aside from his odd biological traits, his age alone would draw attention. Who would expect a 9 year-old padawan in an advanced healing class?
Without a sigh to denote his emotions, however, he advanced, until he was at the front of the room, taking a kneeling position on the floor, awaiting further instruction. This class would be quite interesting, and knowledge was best shared. To learn here how the healers tapped into the Force's power was his goal, as it might expand his knowledge and own abilities, pushing him closer to his final goal, the strengthening of other Jedi around him, through simple meditation.

Even those who are not strong enough to attempt this work should come closer to get a better view.
Sherasti smiled feebly. The young child who was sitting in on the class was audacious, setting his standards high. She could see why Mal had told him those words, and she was glad he was so welcoming. But in many ways, what Mal had directed at him was true for her as well.
She was still weak and in her recovery. Could she attempt all the skilled techniques Mal would show? Probably not. In a sense, she was much like the boy, with limited capabilities. Hers were primarily physical, though her concentration was hardly at its best.
The Jedi Consular stepped forward as well, though she avoided lowering herself to the floor. The strain of sitting on the ground and rising up again would be an undue stress to her side. Instead she stood quietly off to the side.
It was funny really. She'd always taken those movements completely for granted until she was deprived of them. Now every step she made back towards her normal capabilities was like letting out a breath she'd been holding.
Certainly she was hoping to improve her healing skills. So far she didn't have the best track record when it came to injuries, and in the event she was injured again it would be a good idea to be prepared for it.
And when it came to the healing arts, there was no one she trusted more as an instructor or a provider than Mal.

Mal looked over to the chrono on the wall and noted the time to begin. Gathering a few items before him he started. First he poured a small vial of blood upon a thin layer of healing jell. Second he grabbed a piece of shimmer dress and ripped it into. Thirdly he took a small bone-in piece of meat and with the force snapped the bone within. Fourth he poured a line of saline in the midst of a group of crystal slugs.
(occ-for better reading)-OK all what do all four things have in common? Feel out each in turn. What is there? Do you not feel a wrongness to it. Some of these have to those less focused feel darkness in the force. This is good for most injuries are just that rips in the force. Remember the codes of the force between light and dark. Pain, anger, fear, wronged emotion, disturbance in the general feel of a being.
This is the same as with the things that is within the darkness of the force. Harm can be found when a non-force being is plowing a field for the first time. It will be that same way until the balance settles with in the two areas of the force. To heal is to make the two sides merge or purge one side from the other. In poisons it must be purged to a point that the body came deal with it. As in a break or a deep cut the two side must merge.
Take for instance the wound of our Jedi here. Her wound can be felt as a darkness. Yet with in that darkness the body is healing, merging the pain and the damaged cells infusing them with light thus making new cells and healing others. So simply stitching the wound shut is only one side of the healing process. If one had to they could meditate upon the wound infusing it with more light gathering it to themselves and thus speeding up the healing process, but it come with a price. New cells are weaker then those slowly grown.
Mal focused upon the bloody tray and slowly moved a part of it to a corner of the tray where the blood pooled. As for the other he dispersed into the healing jell. For the saline crystals and the slugs he removed as much as he could focusing on the saline as a whole and not each crystal particle.
opening his eyes and sighing letting the force go-Each must be look at as if they had never been seen before. If you think that you know what is wrong by just the look or by the med-droids scans then you might miss the true problem behind what is wrong with what is before you.
Turning the shimmer dress over Mal revealed that one half was molded and the ripping was a good thing to stop the spreading of the mold. As for the small piece of meat Mal lifted a scapulae and sliced down to the bone revealing that the bone structure was weak and the marrow inside was cancerous.
Now feel each of these areas and we will move on to our next item of business multiple focus.

...
What?
That was the only thought that could pass through Arichi's mind, the complete and total confusion of a child who had literally bitten off more than he could chew. From what he could glean from the Hutt's teachings...
Well, it almost had seemed as though a wound, in and of itself, was a presence of darkness, which confused the boy. Scooching closer, he coughed a little, raising his hand, question already in mind, but hoping that the Healer would, in fact, not call on him. To some of the older ones there, his question might seem impertinent, or even shortsighted, something that he definitely did not wish to be branded as.
Yet, it still burnt in his mind, a rapid-growing ember that would consume him, if not satiated by the satisfaction of knowledge. For Arichi, it seemed almost contradictory, stating that a wound was "darkness." It had no life, short of microbial, of it's own. Once the wound was cast, it would be empty, no energy within it's nothingness, save for the surrounding healing energy naturally put out by the Cellular structure of the body itself.
Then again, he was quite the nerd, and reasoned he could be overthinking it. Either way, he wasn't planning on risking it.

Take for instance the wound of our Jedi here. Her wound can be felt as a darkness.
That had never occurred to the young Togruta Knight. Certainly she didn't think of the injury in her side as dark. In fact she hadn't even thought of it as something foreign to her.
Sherasti nodded from time to time during the lesson, working to understand healing the way Mal presented it. It was unconventional, that was for certain. But that didn't surprise her at all. The Hutt healer had his own rather unique approach to things. An approach she had full confidence in. If he said it, strange as it was it was right.
Today he was comparing wounds and disease to darkness. Wounds needed balance to heal, as they were inherently unbalanced. If darkness was merely the absence of light, then it made perfect sense.
He concluded this first part of the lesson by emphasizing you couldn't always rely on droids and scans. One's own senses were of vital importance, and that was possibly what the odd lesson centered on.
Certainly Sherasti could appreciate that. She would be the first to admit well-honed senses could be vital. She preferred her telepathy to keep on top of things, but perhaps she needed to practice attuning her senses as well.
She reached out and focused on the samples of the tray, trying to get a feel for them.
Once she felt reasonably satisfied, her violet eyes scanned the room again. They rested on the young boy with the blue skin and red eyes. He seemed confused about it, and she really couldn't blame him.
But then again, almost everyone seemed a little confused.
Sherasti, though, was ready to move on. She raised a rust-colored hand and spoke. "What do you mean by mulitple focus?"

Mal looked at the bewildered faces of the Jedi before him. Once again he would have to bring down the level of what he was talking about to simplify it for those not healers. Also he had to bring in Sherasti's question as well.
Shaking his head-I'm sorry, let me simplify what I just said. When we were young-lings we were told of how the force has two sides, right. Light and the dark. To we few who are healers we see the force as life and death. The better your senses the wider the area of light and dark, to where they almost merge as one.
I have yet to see it that far but I have seen at times where I could not feel defiantly the light side or the dark side. Yet what I have found is this. Like what our masters before showed us and told us, the darkness is pain, anger, fear, and death. So when your senses are honed right and strong enough you will too see the dying cells and the pain caused by a wound as darkness. In it's simplistic sense yes but you will see it as such.
Most have seen the darkness out there or meet a Dark one of the force. When you meet them or felt that place did it not have a feeling of pain or anger even death about it? This is because the level of the force that was within the area or being. The darkness with in a wound is minor compared to the body around it. Like this....
Mal turned to a vid screen and brought up a picture four suns.
With in this picture of brightness and light at the center is a darkness that is being flooded out and hidden within. A black hole is there making the suns rotate around itself. Until you minimize the light do you see the darkness.
This concept is used in every area of our life. When we search out the dark Jedi to the now raising sith who has hidden themselves with in our own light. As you yourselves are doing removing the darkness and healing the universe, so we healers are doing the same but on a very small scale.
So Mal brought out his tried and true method of multi-focusing. He set before them a very large tank of 20 gallons, then filled it with water. Taking out three tubes of metals one was iron, another brass and the third was copper. He smiled at this tube because he had a hard time finding this simple metal. Why? Because this metal had a strong presence in the force. It came from a ship that was the personal transport of a Dark Jedi who died upon that same ship.
Pouring the three metals together into the tank-This task is very hard at first but in time one can remove the tainted metal from the others and separate them to different corners. The hint to this is not to see the single particle fragments of metal but see it as a whole. The last metal should be obvious to you all the copper is tainted with the darkness. Each piece of copper has a variable degree of darkness, but it is there.
I'm not asking you to try this now but as an example. Yet when you train your senses and your ability to feel an object search out multiple objects that have the same feel and move them as one. A fighting skill which uses this line of thought is battle mind. You search out and connect your minds together and fight as one. We healers do near the same with objects. Removing poison, debris, bone fragments and connecting nerve clusters.
*sighing*If you take nothing else from this time take this. Only young lings see the world as just black and white, and giving little interest in knowing what is in between or caring how to heal the world around themselves.
