The Scavian naming system consists of a long personal name, followed by the name of the Scavian's tribe. Names are often shortened when being introduced to outsiders. Scavian civilization was once varied and highly diverse. However, the destruction of all but one tribe leaves the Lajorans as the only Scavians left in the universe. Lajorans are a simple people, often seen as very primitive due to their lack of speech and ignorance of technology. They are capable of higher thinking, however, and are intellectually on par with other more advanced species. Lajorans choose not to use technology, even if they understand it. They prefer their self-imposed isolation and rarely interact with other sentient species. They do not normally wear clothes, and use tools made with wood and rock. They have been using fire for centuries. They have no weapons, instead relying on their exceptionally dangerous bodies. Lajoran women and men both have interchangeable duties, and children are raised by the tribe and not a single parent or parents.
History
Scavians (often called Scavies, a derogatory term for Scavians) were a single species made up of ten or more tribes, the largest of which were the Scaab. More than a thousand years ago, the Scaab started a war on their home planet, Scavia to unite all tribes under their rule. They succeeded in assimilating all of the tribes except three, one of which were the Lajorans. The Lajorans were a much more primitive tribe, but their cocoon-building skill far surpassed all of the other clans, such that they could all simply remain in hibernation until the Scaab agreed to leave them alone. Thus, the Lajorans built a gigantic dome within their gigantic hive, in which all Lajorans could hibernate, planning on staying in this dome for a few centuries, long enough for the Scaab to forget the war. However, in their hibernation, the Lajorans were spared a cataclysmic event, the destruction of Scavia by a huge asteroid. The planet was broken apart, with the cocoon still intact, but exposed to space. Because of the vacuum-sealed nature of the cocoon, the Lajorans survived for a century more than intended, until being rescued and transported to a nearby planet, having rifted close to Felucia, which would be their new and permanent home. There they have lived for the past one thousand years.

With the exception of a few, Scavians are incapable of
speech, though they do vocalize their emotions and
thoughts, through trills and purrs (females) or snarls and
growls (males).
Scavians do no communicate with the spoken word,
instead relying on strong telepathic ability to
communicate. Their telepathy is not particularly
invasive; they can send and receive thoughts, but not
probe or read minds.
Their telepathy allows them to translate any spoken
word, and send or receive basic interpretations to and
from animals. They are empathic as well, possessing
the ability to sense emotions, even if hidden.
Scavian telepathy is negatively sensitive to the Force,
alerting a Scavian to large concentrations of the Force by
inducing severe migraines. The pain gets worse
depending on the closeness and amount of the Force.
Usually, Force-sensitive people can be tolerated, even
ignored. The likes of Jedi and Sith Lords can induce
crippling pain in a Scavian by just simply being in the
same room as one, sometimes leading to
unconsciousness.
They also possess some limited resistance to the Force,
specifically Force techniques and abilities that dealt with
the mind. Such techniques are all but impossible to use
on a Scavian, who are able to block it instinctively.
Scavians can, however, use the Force to a limited
degree. With training from a Jedi or Sith Lord skilled in
telepathy, a Scavian could remove their negative
reaction to the Force.
Scavians have an extraordinarily long lifespan,
augmented by their ability to produce silk from their
mouth, with which they can build cocoons for a variety of
purposes. Most commonly it is used to build a dwelling.
A Scavian can cover themselves in a vacuum-sealed
cocoon, entering a hibernation state which rejuvenates
the body, extending their lifespan by decades,
depending on how long they spent inside the cocoon.
The cocoon can also act as a life support system, in that
while hibernating, a Scavian does not require
nourishment, enabling them to hibernate for centuries at
a time, even thousands of years.
In addition to their silk, Scavians have venom, which
they can inject through a retractable barb inside the end
of their long, prehensile tail. This venom has proven
potent enough to kill an adult rancor in as little as three
envenomations; a humanoid in only one.
Scavians are carnivores, and their bodies are built to
overcome the over-sized predators and prey on their
home world, Scavia. This has carried over to the
remaining Scavians on Felucia, who contend with the
likes of immigrated rancor and acklays.
They possess digitigrade legs, and are slightly stronger
and much more agile than regular humanoids, able to
leap greater heights and crawl on walls. They have four
fingers per hand, and three toes per foot.
Scavians also have retractable wings, hidden inside slits
in their back, sides and arms. When extended, these
wings allow them to glide long distances, and to some
extent, fly.
Scavians possess a three way jaw (link), with the left and
right sides of the mouth having fangs which inject a
digestive enzyme to break down the tough hide of their
prey and make feeding easier.
A feeding tube with sharp teeth for penetration is used
for feeding, but they're also capable of feeding like any
other humanoid.
When the mouth is folded, a Scavian would appear
normal, excluding their double-jointed legs and lack of
hair. The obvious difference between them and common
humanoids is the thin scar beginning from their lower lip,
ending at the base of the neck.H A B I T A T
Scavia was a treacherous world, to which the Scavians
were indigenous. It was also home to the mighty gorog,
creatures even more dangerous than rancor.
On Scavia, the Lajoran tribe of the Scavians
constructed a magnificent cocoon hive in which all
Lajorans lived. This hive was located in the aptly-named
Lajoran Forest.
On Felucia, the last remaining Scavians, the Lajorans,
have found a new home. In a remote part of the world,
dubbed the Lajoran Jungle, the Lajorans live peacefully,
hunting the Felucian wildlife and avoiding the dangerous
rancor and acklays.
The Lajoran Jungle is a huge network of webs and
cocoons built by the Lajorans, with barriers and traps
that defend them from the greatest predators on
Felucia, the rancor.C U L T U R E
